Pumpkin Art!

Happy Halloween folks! I thought it would be fun, seeing what day it is, to post a few of my pumpikn carvings. Oh yes, all these design are by me, and carved by me too. If you feel inspired to "borrow" them, go ahead, just try and give me some credit, thanks.

Quick thought, if anyone else has some pumpkin art he/she wants to post, go ahead and do it here, I'd love to see other people's carvings!

So, to start, here are some of my pumpkins from last year. (The pumpkins from this year have yet to be carved, so stay tuned.)

Anyway, here's one for all you ghost type lovers: Misdrevous!

It's the Eye of Sauron! o_0

Note: This pumpkin was carved using a technique where in you do not cut all the way through the pumpkin's skin, thus giving it the glow effect. Also, it enables you to make designs otherwise impossible.

Maybe later I will explain how to do it.

Another one done with the NCATWT method, (NCATWT = Not Cutting All The Way Through) this is one I made up simply because I like horses. Of course, it could be one of the Zagul's horse's, anyway, here it is, and that's all, for now.

Oh my!! Those are all so pretty! I love carving pumpkins as well, and try and create my own designs, similar to yours, but somehow, we've been so busy lately, that we've completely forgot about halloween and everything... and thus, no pumpkins.. ;_; too late now... Anyway, those designs are gorgeous! I especailly like the last one... it looks so perfect. o_o; You have quite some talent, there. And Sauron's eye... XD I remember at one time, I was obsessed with drawing that.. O_o;; anyway, looks so cool. NCATWT method... interesting... I'll have to learn how to do that for next year. ^^;

Right, okay, I've got the pumpkins from this year up, so here we go!

Oh yes, and here a my unofficial instructions for my non-patented NCATWT method:

Tools:

Small sharp knife
Largish, flat skrewdriver
Ice pick or other small sharp object about the same size/shape

Method:

1. Start with the small knife and carefully score around the area you wish to gouge out. Cut just deep enough to penitrate the outer most skin of the pumpkin.

2. Using the flat skrewdriver, or you fingernails if they are the right length, carefully peel back the skin to reveal the softer fleshy part beneath.

3. Now take the ice pick and poke it in as deep you wish to gouge the pumpkin. It is advisible for this to be about half or more the pumpkin's thickness, to ensure visible glowing. Repeatedly stab the pumpkin with said ice pick, until you have pulverized the layer you wish to remove.

4. With the skrewdriver, scoop the soft flesh out and put aside, when this is done you may smooth the bottom out for a softer, more finished look.

There, I guess that's it, you may modify your owm methods depending apon the tools availible, and the nature of the pumpkin.

That being said here is a pumkin (from last night) not carved with the NCATWT method. UMBREON!

Yes, you read that correctly, I made a pumpkin with Felicia (from Darkstalkers/Vampire Savior) on it. You probably thought it would take a crazy person to do this, but fortunately, I am crazy!

But seriously, I'm not as crazy as Ralts_Mudkip, he made a Jedah pumpkin! (Jedah is also from Darkstalkers) Memo to self, must get R.M. to post that.

Ive never carved a pumpkin and all ive ever really seen have been, you know, generic lame faces.. this has style! I really like it. I wish I were in your neighborhood ^^. I like festivaties, and theres somehting urgent that comes with something once annually.
the umbreon I quite like. misdreavous seems to be made for such a carving ^^. the eye, who wouldve thought. the eye is fairly freaky, and niftily translated here. the glar from the inside reeally adds to the photo. I can really picture the soft just-out-of-the-way glow of the nighmare. It may be too dim though, but would add to the subtle darkness that I like so much. ^^. I like such pumpkins. the felcia one looks a bit difficult to decipher as felicia, but i get it. the originality is what counts.

I feel bad now for missing everything, even if I had no reason to be out. I only got a small bit of chocolate from my bank [of all places] and spent my evening typing at Ivee and drinking yogurt [of all things]. sorry. you dont need to know my day ^^" I just enjoy rambling. heh.

Aw, doesn't anyone carve pumpkins around here?

Oh well, anyway, where I live is the only possilbe place to trick or treat in our whole town, and the pumpkins this year were a bit disappointing ( I went out with my younger brother, in costume, but not officially trick or treating ) All rather lame, like you said, faces, and a few professionally designed ones. *sigh*

And Fossil Kabutops, you otta try carving pumpkins anyway, it's fun! (Although I don't know where you could get good carving pumpkins in the Neatherlands...anyway, pooyah, I'm hungary and I need to go eat lunch.

I love the Umbreon... how it glows.. it just looks so cool!! The Absol as well. BTW it's "kan je nederlands(yeah, nederlans, not hollands, because we don't say it that way) praten, intead of: "kan je Hollands praaken

Hmm, thanks for the Dutch lesson, Fossil Kabutops. ^_^ My parents were both born and raised in the Netherlands, but than they got married and moved here and had to learn English. o.o; So they've been teaching me Dutch as well, or, well... trying. ^^;; I dunno why, but I seem to have trouble picking up on languages... *sigh* That's why I got all excited when I found out there was somebody Dutch here that I could maybe practice with. XD
Anyway, if you wanna say anything else to me, you'd better PM me instead, as to not SPAM up Agent Elrond's topic. ^^;

Speaking of which, I really should get back on topic.. o.o;

Wow, ralts_mudkip, you do pumpkins too? ^^ That's so neat. I think you did an awesome job as well! I honestly think you're both equally talented. ^^; Although I don't know who this charater is, I think it looks pretty well-done... overall really nice effect... I'd never be able to do anything that complicated. ^^; Do you guys have any more? o.o; If not, there's always next Halloween, I guess. Still, I've already become a really big fan of your pumpkin art. ^_^ (Why must Halloween only be once a year? ;_;)

Notes about the attachment:
This picture shows Gallon(aka Jon Talbain) Carved into a pumpkin. Originaly I was going to make it way more complicated(ie. Teeth, more groupings of hair, etc.), but in my haste, I chose to leave those details out. But I'd say looks good anyway, don't you think?

I can't believe you did that, it's so awsome! (Really) I think his hair came out especially well, all spikey like. o.o

I think Jedah might have looked better if the pumpkin had been photographed in the pitch dark...oh well, it's still supercool.

Aw, you're so sweet, ^.^" thanks. I'm afraid I don't have any more at the moment, so you'll have to wait until next year to see more pumpkins from me. (Yeah, I totally agree with Nuriko, Halloween should be at least twice a year. )

Edit: Oh yeah, and I think you'd be surprised at how nice your pumpkins turn out, half of it is having a good pattern, the other half is having good hand muscle coordination, which, if your drawings are anything to go by, you have in plenty.
