Is it just me or does May seen abit too mature for her age, I mean, her breasts are that or a much older character, either that or see wear a type of clothing which fake big boobs in the underpadding. Is the anime guilty of sexualing young girls?
And speaking of age, why hasnt ash aged a single day in all the years of his travel? I mean a single change wouldn't have hurt, and by change I dont mean silly clothing like they have done in Pokemon Advanced.

Please don't bring up the design issue with May, it's already been brought up hundreds of times. I never noticed it until people mentioned it, and people who do notice it and talk about it all the time are perverted, in my opinion. She's 10, she's a cartoon character, and, well, people are different. Not all 10-year-olds look the same. Besides, studies have shown that every generation is taller than the last, so May probably developed faster, since she'll end up being taller than her mom is.

Anyways, about Ash. I'd say the characters in Pokemon are like Mickey Mouse and his friends. I mean, sure, we've seen Ash when he was a kid, and we've seen Mickey when he was a baby, but we've never seen them older than what we know them as, since they're ageless. The kids in Doraemon have never aged, and since Pokemon seems like it'll be forever popular and loved, like Doraemon, I don't see why the producers would mess with a good thing and let the characters age.

obsessing over a ten year old's breasts, even if she is a fictional character, is a form of perversion bordering on PEDOPHILIA.

And as for this whole "why don't they age?" issue...IT'S A CARTOON. It is not reality, it is fantasy. The characters are not meant to age, and therfor they don't Think of it as timeless, think of it as magical, think of it as a cartoon.

You might as well ask, Why don't we ever see them go to the bathroom? Shouldn't Brock and James be shaving by now? How can they carry enough food and water for three people, and all their Pokemon? Why don't they ever change their clothes...oh wait...they did that one...once...

The new series featuring May and her brother Max just started in the UK and well they done something odd. After the episodes where Misty left and when Pikachu was ill due to being stuck to a magnet had just aired, they then showed an episode where Jesse and James made Arbok and Weezing stay with a group of Ekans and Koffing and I was not only cross at Sky One's botched up episode order but the fact Arbok and Weezing where, well, gone. But luckily the next day they showed the newest eppys in the right order. I saw Ash meeting May, Professor Birch, Max and then Brock came back looking as great as ever. Well back to the original topic. Yes May has big breasts. Not sure why the topic was brought up but. I think she sounds alot like Nurse Joy. I can understand her rookie mistakes. After all she is just starting out. Does that mean she is younger than Ash? Most likely it does. I did prefer Misty but I won't complain. I welcome the new Pokemon, characters and plot holes with open arms. The look of the newer animation is quality too. Well we will just have to see what Pokemon, scrapes and valuable lessons the group will encounter next. We all know RyuYouji has good observation of girl's breasts.

I am not obsessing over nothing. I am merely poiting uot the fact that it is is wrong and raising the issue whether or not they can justify the tendency the public has of sexualising young girls. I believe it is wrong and there is no way they justify giving her big boobs. Other anime have drawn more apropiate body design for someone of her age without sexualising it. If the creators of the show just swallowde their pride and had changed her age as apropiate to her body then I wouldnt be making such a fuss over it. To summerise;

young girls with big boobs: wrong
older girls with big boobs: not wrong

It's not the producers who are perverted. And you are 100% right, because MAY LOOKS NORMAL. It's the people who lust after ten year olds who are PERVERTED. The same people who look at MAY and start thinking about her breasts and say she looks like she's of an age where sexual activity is acceptable are likely wannabe pedophiles.

There is so much sick stuff out there. Sometimes when I search the net for Pokemon content I find pages with drawings of Ash and Misty doing disgusting and perverted things (no, sex is not perverted, but sex with a ten year old IS). People are sick, and distant "well let's just look at this objectively and analyze the drawing and maybe try and theorize about the animators, etc" stlye of discussion only dodges the issue that there should be no question as to whether or not it is wrong to have sexual thoughts about ten years olds.

Sexual thoughts, even if they are only thoughts, and even if they are only fantasies, that involve children IN ANY WAY is perverted, and wrong.

I hadnt seen the show befoer and seen a picture of May I would say she was an older teenager, and if you implying what I think your implying about me, dont. Ah, okay, Ryu, I understand what you mean, now. Did you happen to see some fan art, or were they pictures from the show? Why I ask is because sometimes, sick people who make the fan art tend to exaggerate things. If the pictures were from the show, then they could of been resized to be wider, and thus, May's chest would appear bigger, as well.

Anyways, I noticed this aswell. May does seem over develloped for a 10 year old in anime character terms. I looked at the beginning of the pokemon anime in spoilers forum a few times (cause I thought teh song was cool!) but its kind of hard not to see that May is like that. Combined wih her saying she is 10 years old, you kind of start thinking "Hey..10 year old girls don't really look like that." Im sure if she said "thirteen" instead of "ten" in the beginning, this topic wouldn't exist at all.

Note: You can't disclude "perverted artists" from the list as we know alot of anime has hentai, but I bet this isn't the case.

Why shouldn't they age? This show follows a story line, it isn't like Simpsons or Peanuts where it is a new plot every episode, just with the same characters and setting. Time passes in the show, as seen when Ash went to pokemon tech, that girl asked him how long he had been adventuring and he said around a month or so.

But overall, I think the choice of having May look like that was to make her look different from Misty in more ways then not. It could be that May just likes wearing tighter clothing then most other pokegirls

Exactly. The artists are trying to show May different from Misty....and in my opinion, it would be better it she would have said 12 or 13 instead of 10...she's tall as Ash, a 14-year old!

Okay, I hate to burst your bubble, this is an interesting discussion, but it best end here for several reasons:

First of all, I wouldn't care less for a discussion about May's body, it's not the sexual content that bothers me. It's just the fact that her age is causing so much conflict.

Bacl: Who cares if she's 10? This is ANIME. In real life it may be a pedophile to like a 10 year old if you're 14+, but seriously, you'd be surprised how much they exaggerate on age and physical appearances in the Anime. Or at least, in Pokemon. And wanna know why? Pokemon was directed at the YOUNGER audience, of mainly people who are under 10, and I guess to them, they assumed the age of 10 would seem old, and Misty was 10 as well. They gave Misty the "old" feature stature-wise, and gave May the "old" feature chest-wise. That's at least my theory. And the reason I guess they thought big breasts wouldn't matter is because of younger people who watch it that haven't hit puberty yet and wouldn't care about that stuff. She's meant to LOOK old to 7-9 year olds. Might I add, Max looks and sounds 10 if anything, and he's supposed to be 8.

So anyways, age doesn't really have any meaning to it in Anime, and a lot of you know very well that aside from May's boobs, there have been PLENTY of age contradictions with Ash, Jessie, Brock... you name it. So I don't think the producers meant to have May's age matter. So in the Anime world, age doesn't matter, and swooning over a CHARACTER that is said to be supposedly 10 is NOT pedophilia. And Bacl, I'm mainly looking at you. Consider yourself warned, and maybe next time you want to argue this point, you can do it in a less harsh way.

Also, a note to Animelee: I noticed that in your screenshot topic, you're strongly against people requesting images of May, or May in a swimsuit or whatever, and assuming it's disgusting and pedophilia. Well, hopefully you'll change your mind after reading this... after all, they're just screenshots, and just innocent requests to see images of May in a swimsuit.

So anyways, since this is becoming too harsh of an argument... off to LockLand with this.
