The battle continues as Ixion sizzles and crackles and whatevers with electricity before releasing it in a powerful arcing bolt. This time, he's determined not to miss even with his crummy Accuracy. As heavy voltage runs rampant through Jordan's body, the wee Piplup feels his muscles grow oddly... stiff. Eep. Feeling sort of like a statue at the moment, Jordan tries to manage a Yawn but can't open his beak wide enough. Nuts.

The Piplup then glows blue. Purdy.

Ixion releases another electric discharge at Jordan who looks extremely aggravated now that he has full control over his facial movement once again. Shaking off the attack, Jordan rapidly Digs down beneath the ground. Three cheers for safety!

Aware that his opponent is out of range, Ixion opts not to attack. Instead, the Blitzle bides his time, waiting for the moment... when... uh-oh. Sensing the ground shifting beneath his legs, Ixion is helpless as Jordan emerges and begins lashing out with a series of aggressive swipes. Ixion tumbles to the ground and winces before pulling himself up again and, yep, Thunderbolting. This is one efficient electro-zebra. Jordan feels the electricity again and grimaces. C'mon, dude! This is getting old!

Jordan takes a step forward and prepares some speedy maneuver, but Ixion just can't be outpaced: the inverted zebra rips through the grass toward Jordan and clobbers her with an electrical tackle. Shenanigans continue as Wolfsong releases... another Blitzle to the field? Alrighty. Ixion shows off his superior Speed by darting toward this newbie and Double Kicking him right in the face. Yowch! Eager to prevent that from happening again, Stripes does a little spin and creates four widdle clonies. D'aww.

Ixion closes its eyes as Stripes gallops around the grassy vicinity. His Speed rises.

It's Flame Charge on Flame Charge as the two Blitzles (not to mention all those Blitzle clones) come galloping toward one another. Ixion bounces right through a clone, causing it to vanishes, while Stripes does an about-face and crashes right into his opponent. Ixion stumbles down to the ground.

As the next round begins, Stripes and his Blitzle posse congregate together before craning their necks to the sky. Suddenly, they begin to emit a blaring Screech that sounds vaguely like... oh, why not... BLAAAAREEEGRAAAAEEEEEEOOOOOAR. Eurgh. Ixion winces from the unpleasant cacophony and puffs out his chest so that he can Swagger around like he owns the joint. Alas, it doesn't quite pan out. Since the real Stripes is screened by one of his clonie consorts, he has no clear line of sight and thus does not witness the Swagger.

Ixion: <-4 EP; -2 Def>

Before Stripes can act, Ixion erupts with a sudden and unexpected flare of Hidden Power. The brilliant purplish assault strikes one of the remaining clones but has no effect whatsoever on the real Stripes. Meanwhile, Stripes performs a Hidden Power of his own. It's not quite as strong, but the light brown energy blast seems to do the trick. Ixion is blasted clear off his hooves and is thrown a good deal away... right into the water toe print, where he lands with a splash. Judging by that look on his face, he's none too pleased. Zebra he is, but zebrafish he is not.

Ixion: <-12 HP; -6 EP>

It's rinse and repeat time as Ixion pulls himself out of the water, gives himself a little shake and then once again performs a Me First. This time, he races toward Stripes and co. and comes down hard on one of the Blitzles with a powerful Stomping motion... that hits only clone. Drat. Stripes shows him how it's done by performing a Stomp of his own, which hits Ixion with precision. At least he's not forced to take any unexpected swims this time, though.

Overall, not a wonderful round for Ixion. The Blitzle blushes a little while Stripes, feeling emblazoned by his recent success, gives his opponent some sarcastic applause. How does the quadruped manage this feat, exactly? I'm... I'm not sure. But he does.

Our match continues as Ixion begins singing the opening lines to "Frère Jacques." His sonic attack takes the form of shimmering green ring of noise which glides across the field and knocks the real Stripes off her hooves. She skids across the ground before toppling over. Though she's able to get back up, her clone isn't so lucky: it vanishes and seems to be gone for good. Oh fourth Blitzle clone, we hardly knew ye. After the shortest funeral ever, Stripes fires a blast of Hidden Power at Ixion and evens the score... well, not really, but at least the score is a teensy bit less even now?

Ixion: <-12 HP; -4 EP>

Stripes finds a glob of mud at the water print's edge and prods it with her hoof until it kinda sorta almost looks like a Blitzle. Ixion, however, is tricked by the Illusion and blasts the thing with another ring of sound. The Sub's face falls off but still remains mostly intact.

Ixion: <-3 EP>

Ixion blasts the Substitute with yet another Round attack and watches as the thing crumbles. However, while he's watching his feat of destruction, Stripes is busy charging at him like a big, flamey meteor. Crash! Stripes rams hard into Ixion and sends the exhausted Blitzle stumbling into the water. Weary though he is, Ixion doesn't seem to be out of the game just yet.

Our battle marches onward as Greyfox makes his next selection. A bright light flashes and a squiggly little bottom-feeder bounces into battle, except it scrapes itself on one of the hovering rocks littering the field. (How the hell do those things keep following us?) As Apollo bounds into the water-shaped toeprint, Stripes fires off yet another Hidden Power. The Ground-type blasts knocks poor Apollo deep underwater, but he resurfaces and retaliates with a pulsating blast of red and green light. The attack gives Stripes one heck of a headache and leaves the Blitzle stumbling around like one of those three-legged cats nobody adopt from the pound.

Apollo: <-12 HP; -3 HP Srk; -6 EP>

Stripes lurches uncontrollably but manages to keep his shit together long enough to let out a deafening banshee wail. (I will abstain from providing the phonetic sound effect.) As Apollo's constitution plummets, the Chinchou fights back with a shimmering beam of icy energy. Stripes is thrown to the ground and breaks out into a fit of shivers. Dude, just because today is the first day of fall doesn't mean the cold snaps need to start already!

Poor Stripes. The Blitzle attempts to show off his fighting strength but ends up running headfirst into a nearby boulder, much to Apollo's satisfaction. The little blue blob caps off the ground by blasting Stripes with a Psybeam. Oh well. At least his Confusion seems to have abated for now.

Apollo maintains his offensive as he hops out of the pool and bounces toward Stripes before punching the inverted zebra in the leg with one of his floaty yellow antenna things. Stripes grunts, turn around and uses his hind legs to launch Stripes back into the water. Splash!

Rinse and repeat. Apollo once again waddles out of the water to deal a Sucker Punch, only to wind up on the receiving end of a reckless charging tackle that gives Stripes a bit of damage as well.

Once again, the Pokemon trade off attacks. Apollo goes for a Sucker Punch while Stripes channels all his positive energy into a melee strike. Of course, since he's losing the battle, the melee strike doesn't do a whole lot. So. Yeah.

The match plods ever onward as Stripes whickers softly and then gives his head a toss, casting off a brilliant wash of light from his horn. Apollo's squinty little eyes get a whole lot squinter but the bottomfeeder isn't deterred. He retaliates with a headache-inducing Signal Beam, which does more or less what you'd expect a headache-inducing Signal Beam to do (ie. induce a headache).

Stripes walls himself up within a Protective bubble while Apollo shoots off an Ice Beam which misses by about ten to fifteen feet. And there was much lol-ing.

Stripes decides to fall back on his trusty Hidden Power strategy. The Ground-type energy blast hits Apollo with precision and sends the blue blob bouncing across the open water like a skipping stone. When at last his momentum dissipates, Apollo swims back to the edge of the blue paw print and cuts loose with an energy blast of his own. Stripes is hit and almost defeated, but not quite.

Floating there in the water, Apollo smirks confidently. Stripes knows he's circling the drain and decides to go out swinging. He begins charging through the shallows with a look of pure Frustration on his face. Apollo tries to Bounce out of the attack's path, but isn't fast enough: the hit sends him tumbling across the surface of the water like a skipping stone. Eep. When his tumbling has slowed to a halt, he jumps clear out of the water. Whee!

With one of his antennae cocked like a fist, Apollo comes whizzing down to earth and collides with Stripes. Stripes keels over and lands in the shallow water with a splash. Time to send this one to the glue factory.

Wolfsong's next Pogey takes to the field with a big ol' splash. Apollo finds himself face to face with a slacke-eyed creature who looks a bit like a blue version of Crush from Finding Nemo. Determined to pull the wool over Crush's Barbossa's eyes, Apollo does a fruity little bouncy spin thing that creates four clones... which are promptly wiped away by Barbossa's sudden Sandstorm. Parting is such sweet sorrow.

Sand whips and swells about, grating against Apollo's moist skin rather unpleasantly. The grumpy Chinchou shoots off an electric beam which arcs through the air before coming down hard upon Barbossa, electrocuting him thorough and through. Then, with a mighty Earthquake, Barbossa sends Apollo soaring into a rather jagged rock sitting in the middle of the pond. What dummy put that there?!

Apollo: <-17 HP; -4 EP>

Apollo doles out another dose of Vitamin E(lectricity), which proves to be a bit more than Barbossa can handle. Paralysis rips through his body, but doesn't keep him from delivering what comes next. A truckload of rocks tumbles down seemingly out of nowhere and sends Apollo spiralling below the water's surface.

When Apollo surfaces, he smiles with triumph for having survived the round! Yay! His elation, however, is quickly wiped away by a swell of sand <-2 HP>. RIP, little dude.
