We begin this adventure with you being teleported to the foot of the Shinsuke Volcano, alone on its island apart from a large beach that stretches quite far in both directions and behind you is the sea, glittering blue, with the slight hint of land in the far distance. Looking up, you see plumes of smoke rise from the crater, as well as the occasional silhouette of a bird Pokemon. At the moment, you don't see an entrance into the volcano, but you do see the strange pagoda nearby, a large tiered tower, similar to ones you've seen on your travels in Johto.

You head in the direction of the pagoda and trudge across the sand. You hear a small rumble and a Diglett pops out a few feet from you. It looks at you for a second, before ducking back under the sand. In the far distance, you can see some horses galloping across the sand, you assume they're Ponyta. You reach the pagoda and have a look inside: not much, apart from the linings of Ho-oh statues that stretch high towards the ceiling. They seem as big as the actual Pokemon. As for Pokemon themselves, there don't seem to be any. You then spot something in the corner, a Poke Ball.

Curious, you hold the red stone up to the light so you can see it better. It's a very pretty stone and when held up, it turns almost light red. But you notice that a small red beam is being emitted from the stone. You lower it to have a closer look and the beam vanishes. Frowning in thought, you hold the stone to the light and follow the beam, seeing that it lands in the middle of the room. As you move, the beam moves so it always points towards the center. You walk over and see a faint marking on the floor. Brushing the dirt and dust aside, you see it is the marking of a Poke Ball. Smiling, you look at the diagram and feel you are getting somewhere.

Peering at the Poke Ball carving, you don't notice anything out of the ordinary. You stand in the center and have a look around, but nothing seems to be helping. Looking at the diagram you see something you didn't notice before, very faint lines coming down from the Poke Ball and to the left. They look as if they were rubbed out, but not completely. Looking at the floor itself, you don't see the same lines, but maybe that doesn't matter...

As cleaning up after oneself is usually a good idea, you return the floorboard and then come back to the Poke Ball marking. You have a little look around and decide to place the stone onto it. It flashes a bright red light and you hear a loud click. The floor on which the stone sits sinks slightly, creating a small canal leading down and then to the left. The stone rolls down this path and when it reaches the end, it falls into an indent. You feel the ground rumble and one of the statues of Ho-oh begins to turn, taking a large section of the wall with it. It turns to reveal a similar sized statue of Lugia. In between his legs is a staircase leading down.

You pick up the stone and peer down into the gloomy depths of the thin staircase, It's very circular and quite thin. You therefore decide to withdraw Orion, who can't even fit and Volt, who has difficulty with stairs anyway. Zen volunteers to lead the way and heads down. As you climb, you hear a rumble from above as the statue rotates back around again, cutting off the remaining light. Thankfully, the stone glows quite brightly allowing you to see. Eventually, you reach the bottom and find yourself in a long passage. Another thing you note is that's it's foggy. Very, very foggy.

You continue down the passage keeping one hand with the stone aloft and the other hand on the right hand wall. As well as being foggy, you notice it's getting much warmer too. Therefore, this passage leads into the volcano, but where?
After a few minutes walking, you find out. You emerge in this large chasm, not that you can see due to the fog, but due to the large echo. You also hear various noises of Pokemon, but can't see anything anyway. After walking for a bit in the heat, a large figure looms out of the fog. Started, you take a step back, but realize it's a statue, or at least, a slightly broken one. You recognize the shape as a Groudon and it's sunk into the ground slightly. You also notice that its left eye is a small red stone, similar to yours, but its right eye is empty.

Stepping close, you place the stone into the eye and, almost magically, the fog fades. Now you can see just how large this chasm is. But, curiously, the Pokemon you heard before are nowhere to be seen. Confused, you look around, but see nothing. You also notice Zen is getting a bit unsettled and then suddenly the statue moves. The two stone eyes glow bright and the Groudon statue stands upright. It looks at you and roars.

Nigel smiles. "Thank you, but it would be quicker by myself." He thinks for a moment. "Can I see the letter?" You nod and hand it over. Nigel looks at it then rolls his eyes. "Of course... this is my brother's handwriting. Looks like instructions telling someone how to reach the stone I found.
"You see, this Groudon statue is an amazing piece of machinery. It can battle, but doesn't hurt Pokemon. It's great for training, as it was to the people who built the ruins of this place and the pagoda. As a ritual of sorts, you had to find the two Drought Stones hidden on the island and defeat the statue in battle.
"Of course, these days, there's not much point to it. I'm thinking to ship it to a museum but if those stones are placed in its eyes, it becomes active and starts attacking. That's why I told my brother to leave the stone be, but he made a way for people to find the stone. I think it would be better if you had them. That way, no one will activate the statue again, because if the statue takes too much damage, it'll break. And I wouldn't know how to fix it."
He pauses, then chuckles. "I'm not sure why I'm telling you all this. I seem to just trust you for some reason. Anyway, I should get going. If you want to get out of here, you should take that path," he points to a small opening on the opposite wall. "Eventually you'll come across a lever that will take you to the main part of the volcano, where most of the Pokemon are."

"Maybe I'll see you around and if you see my brother, hit him on the head for me." He grins, then disappears into a large hole.

With the stones kept safe, I'll take a short breather with Zen, letting her recover a bit before we head out to the main section of the volcano and start our search for some Pokemon.

You wave goodbye to Nigel and stop for a moment to look around. The chasm is rather giant and rather warm. Near the top there is a slight hint of fog and you can see many holes in the walls where various flying types flit in between them. After Zen's rested, you head towards the opening. After a minute or so, you come across a dead end and a lever.

You pull back the lever and look in amazement as the rock slides back to reveal... another large chasm. But hey at least this one has Pokemon in it, take your pick. A Diglett is just looking around, a Zubat flaps from one side to the other. A Slugma lazily idles in the warmest spot and a Druddigon knocks on a motionless Darmanitan-Z. And then there's the Geodude. He doesn't care about nothing.

I'll uh o.o Ask if any of them has seen any other humans around. If not, I think I'll continue exploring this chasm. They're always great places to find things like diamonds. And lava. And creepy dungeon sounds. Lord I hate those dungeon sounds.

You approach the nearest Pokemon, the Druddigon, and ask if they've seen any human sightings.
"A human?" Druddigon repeats. "Aren't those things pretty rare to find? At least when you catch one, they're pretty powerful." He laughs at his joke and moves off, no longer interested in the discussion. You frown and then feel something tugging on your sleeve: the Darmanitan. He floats up to you.
"If it's a human you want, there are rumors of one hiding out at the centre of the volcano. There's this huge stone structure that was built long ago, further back then even I can remember. However, the Aerodactyl that flies around the crater rim may be able to tell you more. You should be able to find him easily enough, we're not far from the top."
With that, he floats away again and you spot a Torkoal move out from behind a rock. The Zubat has landed to rest and the Geodude eyes you with suspicion.

You decide the leave the large chasm and enter into a small tunnel. It's slightly cramped and a bit uneasy, but workable. After turning a sharp corner, you reach a fork in the road. Oh goody. The left path heads down and is quite steep, whereas the right path slants ever so slightly up, but there are a ridiculous amounts of rocks in the way.
