Oppression is when someone keeps you "down" or controls you. For example, slaves are oppressed because they have no freedom or control over many of their actions. Oppression is usually referred to when talking about social groups that the powers of society try to keep from becoming "equal" such as homosexuals, women (at one time, though it's improved a lot), minorities, and so on.
Repression is when you personally keep things "down," like feelings. It's common for a lot of people to just push emotions or memories away because that's easier than really dealing with them. Repression is almost always a subconscious thing, meaning you don't even know you're excluding the item from your memory or conscious mind. It seems your brain just does it. For example, people abused as small children often have no clear recollection of it as adults until something triggers the memories. Repressed feelings will almost always come back in painful ways if they are not brought to the surface and dealt with in a healthy way.

Oppression is a Sociological element.
Repression is a Psychological one.

Abraham talks to God. Sarah’s listening in a tent. God promises a son and gives a time. Come forward to Genesis 21, God has been faithful to his promises, as we see in Sarah’s birth.

What has God done here, and why is it so amazing?
God provided Sarah with a baby boy. He kept his promise, even though it sounded crazy. It’s amazing because it was such a crazy promise, because Sarah was almost 100 (older than most grandmas) when she became pregnant, and because Sarah actually couldn’t have kids and yet God made her have one!

How is God sticking to his promises here?
God is beginning to fulfil the promise he made of a great nation to Abraham.

Who does Paul say is counted as Abraham’s offspring?
verse 8 “It is the children of the promise who are regarded as Abraham’s offspring”

Who is the promise Paul is talking about?
Refer back to last week’s bible study – Jesus is the promise

What does this mean for followers of Jesus?
We are part of God’s great nation, because of Jesus.

What does this tell us about God?
God is faithful. Can be seen in verse 6 “It is not as though God’s word had failed.”

What does that mean for us?
We can trust God, because we can see he has kept his promises.
