    GREYFOX'S SAFARI ADVENTCHA!

    Tranquil Shores
A small cove-style beach. There are lots of ocean pokemon to be found here, as well as Fire types enjoying the sun. Steel and electric-types may be able to detect treasure under the sand.

    ‡ Round 60 ‡

Looks like you called it. You raise Inverted Duckbot's Pokeball but, before you can throw it, something heavy Slams you in the gut. You go down hard, pinned beneath something large and pink. You look up and see a familiar face.

"What did you think would happen, fool?" Quagsire spits. "That we wouldn't be able to escape from that cage? That we wouldn't find you on the surveillance feeds?"

Quagsire then attacks you with a concentrated Water Pulse to the face. You flail and Inverted Duckbot's Pokeball rolls out of your hand and across the cold floor into Mistress Miyako's cell. The Crawdaunt picks it up with interest.

When the Water Pulse abates, you look over and see that Brigitte and the Park Director are also occupied. Four Pokemon have engaged them in battle.

"Hold tight. The other guards will be up here any minute now," Quagsire says.

    How do you proceed?

    ‡ Round 61 ‡

You issue commands and receive another Water Pulse to the face. Blech.

"Toss that ball, prisoner, and I'll have your head," Quagsire barks at Mistress Miyako.

Suddenly, you hear numerous voices in the distance. You can hear the footfalls of the other guards as they spill out onto the sixth floor. You can hear the sound of their approaching footfalls. They've almost reached you.

"I... know what this is," Mistress Miyako murmurs, holding up Inverted Duckbot's Pokeball in the moonlight. "I believe... yes, I believe I need to..."

She presses down on the button and, with a burst of red, your Porygon-Z emerges in the cell. You look over and see that the Quilavas and Vibrava have securely pinned Brigitte and the Park Director to the ground.

Not much time left before the guards come...!

I'll quietly summon Megazord to take down the firelings while Duckbot teleports itself and Mistress out of the cell.

Then we'll get as close as possible and teleport away from this place!

    ‡ Round 62 ‡

Inverted Duckbot nods dutifully at you before Teleporting itself and Mistress Miyako into the corridor. Quagsire stares in disbelief.

"But... the Teleportation jammer!" he exclaims. "How did you...?"

You squirm your right arm about until you reach your Pokeball. You toss it and out pops Megazord, who effortlessly shoves Quagsire off of you. It then does the same to the Quilavas and Vibrava. Now free, Brigitte and the Park Director clamber toward you just as no less than fifty guards round the corner. The last thing they see is a flash of light as Inverted Duckbot Teleports the lot of you away to safety.

You soon find yourself on the same stretch of moonlit beach where you stood almost two hours prior. You look around and see that everyone is safe and accounted for. Phew. Mistress Miyako looks around and clicks her pincers slowly. She seems lucid enough at the moment to know where she is.

    "I'm... free?" she says simply.

It's a pleasure to meet you, Mistress, but right now the guards are gonna storm out this way and try imprison us.

I'll recall Duckbot for now, and have Megazord fly us away from here.

The lot of you clamber onto Megazord's back as he shoots off into the night sky. Mistress Miyako peers around placidly.

Mistress, can you tell us everything you know about Darkrai?

I -- we believe -- that a dangerous cult is trying to resurrect him, and that's why the moon is still out.

Megazord, take us back to Dysfunction Land. We'll rest there.

    GREYFOX'S SAFARI ADVENTCHA!

    Dysfunctionland
A dilapidated series of amusement park rides and buildings. Who knows what you might find underneath these dusty tents and behind closed doors…

    ‡ Round 64 ‡

Megazord shoots off toward Dysfunctionland at a truly impressive pace as you ask Mistress Miyako about Darkrai. As soon as you mention the Legendary Pokemon's name a spasm of recognition flickers across her countenance. She appears entirely lucid and visibly afraid.

"I knew it," she says in a grave whisper. "I am blind, child, but I could still feel the cosmic vibrations. I knew what was happening. I could tell that somewhere, someone was performing the First Ceremony, also known as the Eventide Ceremony. It is the first of three ritual steps one must take in order to resurrect Pitch-Black Pokemon. It can only be cast on the evening of the summer solstice by six individuals working in tandem. It causes the Safari Zone to be bathed in perpetual, never-ending night, just as I sense that it is now. If a cult is behind this, then it must be the Dreadhand Cult. We must stop them before... before I starve to death, Astrid! Eggs and toast should not take nearly this long to make! You're lucky you're gifted in the art of telling fortunes, dear, because your cooking skills truly are atrocious!"

The last words she delivers in a snappish tone just as Megazord touches down outside the gates of Dysfunctionland.

    How do you proceed?

Mistress, tell me more about the Dreadhand Cult! We need to know where the next ritual takes place!

Everyone else, get some rest. We're definitely going to need it.

    Dysfunctionland
A dilapidated series of amusement park rides and buildings. Who knows what you might find underneath these dusty tents and behind closed doors…

    ‡ Round 65 ‡

Your party members flop down on the dewy grass and regain their lost energy as you continue to question Mistress Miyako. The elderly Crawdaunt flits back into the present moment when you address her.

"The Dreadhand Cult is a truly sinister band of Pokemon that has been around for longer than written records can attest," Mistress Miyako explains. "They pledge themselves to Darkrai, but do not confuse that pledge with any kind of admiration. They fear Darkrai just as much as any Pokemon should. Maybe more so. When the members of the cult see the signs of Darkrai's strength mounting as he approaches the threshold between life and afterlife, they perform the Three Ceremonies to resurrect their master for fear that they will be subject to his wrath if they do not. The Second Ceremony, known as the Minion Ceremony, must be performed within twenty-four hours of the First Ceremony. There is no set location where it must be executed, though lore says that it must be performed at a place of great significance, which can be variously interpreted."

Of great significance... well, that certainly makes things... ridiculously difficult...

What place holds great significance to the Legendary Nightmare Weaver?

What about Cresselia? Would this thing have anything to do with her?

    ‡ Round 66 ‡

"It is up to the Dreadhand Cult to decide which location fulfills the criteria of 'great significance.' Now, bother me no further, Astrid. I must nap so I have strength for my gathering with the Seer Sisterhood tonight," she says as she closes her milky eyes. Suddenly, they snap back open. "No! We are in peril. I must retain focus. I would use my Inner Eye to gaze into the future and see where the ceremony is performed, child, but years in the mundanity of Calypso Fortress without proper practice and stimulation have caused it to close for the present moment. If you wish to find out where the Dreadhand Cult plans to host the Second Ceremony, you would have to somehow discover that for yourself... by talking with a member of the cult, maybe, or by infiltrating their hideout. I can imagine no other way to come upon that information. Cresselia can help counter Darkrai's powers, yes, but I fear that by the time we find her it will be too late."

"Infiltrate their hideout? For Pete's sake," the Park Director moans, hammering his tail against the ground. "We just broke into and out of a high-security prison. I've already met my daily quota of recon, thanks."

Director, these are the cards that've been dealt. If you don't wanna play, then that's your business.

Mistress, you need your rest. But one more thing -- in order for us to infiltrate the cult's hideout, we're gonna need a lead on where that hideout might be. Do you have any ideas?

    GREYFOX'S SAFARI ADVENTCHA!

    Dysfunctionland
A dilapidated series of amusement park rides and buildings. Who knows what you might find underneath these dusty tents and behind closed doors…

    ‡ Round 67 ‡

"The hideout of the Dreadhand Cult? I've never visited their headquarters, child, but I know it is somewhere in Wagwhomp Swamp. That is all the information I can offer, but I will tell you one thing... I will not let you cart me away to Calypso Fortress!" she shrieks as lucidity slips out of her pincers yet again. "You think I'm dangerous? Senile? Preposterous! You've always been jealous of my gifts! You'll regret this. The day will come when you'll need my assistance and you'll regret having put me away like a child's broken toy. This I know to be true!"

She then turns away from you. The Park Director rolls his eyes.

"Listen, I'm not a bad guy," the Smeargle says. "That whole prison breakout thing was actually kind of fun, to be honest... right up until the moment when I was pinned beneath two Quilavas and seconds away from having my face Flamethrowered off! So yeah, no more for me. I know this Darkrai thing is important, but I'm not going to Wagwhatever Swamp just so I can risk my tail yet again. I'm out."

"Well, I'm still in," Brigitte says as she eyes her employer savagely. She lets out a cough that sounds oddly like the word "coward."

    GREYFOX'S SAFARI ADVENTCHA!

    Wagwhomp Swamp
A very hot, mysterious swamp-like area in the deepest parts of the Safari Zone. It is a thick, jungle like area with long sturdy boardwalks leading through a deep, muddy swamp. There are thick, weeping trees and the Pokemon here, due to the heat, are very easily agitated.

    ‡ Round 68 ‡

With nothing left to say to the Park Director, you leave Mistress Miyako in his care and jet off into the night sky yet again. Brigitte fumes the whole way as you travel northeast into lush and greener territory. After a short while, you touch down on a rain-rotted boardwalk raised over murky swampwater. It's an awfully hot evening and a cloud of Yanmas furiously buzzes around overhead.

You see a small canoe docked just ahead of you, but nothing that particularly shouts "cult hideout."

Deciding that you can't make friends with everyone, you take off down the boardwalk into the muggy swamp. You walk for a good distance without encountering anything noteworthy as you push back veils of vines that hang down from overhead branches. You eventually round a bend and see, a good fifty feet ahead, a Pokemon most definitely not native to Wagwhomp Swamp. He's perched on the boardwalk as though waiting for something and doesn't seem to have noticed you.

"Um, that's weird. I totally work with that Persian," Brigitte whispers. "His name is Carson. He does maintenance at Dysfunctionland. The hell is he doing here?"

    ‡ Round 73 ‡

    He shifts.

"I believe it goes by the Latin name... treeicus treealis?" he says uncertainly.

    How do you proceed?

Megazord, come on out. We're gonna see how many lives this cat has if he doesn't start truth-telling.

    ‡ Round 74 ‡

Carson takes one look at Megazord flexing his undead golem guns and folds.

"Okay, I don't know a thing about botany," he growls. "You remember our conversation last night, human? About how I feared the Midsummer Festival would stoke Darkrai's anger? I'm part of a group of select, initiated Pokemon doing everything possible to make sure we stay in Darkrai's good books. In fact, last night I helped part one of that plan come into fruition. I'm here to meet with my brethren."

If you're so afraid of him, then why are you bringing him back? You've gotta realize how maddening this sounds, right?

"My brethren and I have been aware of the signs that his strength is growing," Carson explains. "Astrid's convulsive fit last night? That was one of them. It might take a day or a month or a year, but Darkrai's power is building and eventually he's going to cross the threshold back into this realm all by himself whether we do anything or not. The rituals we're trying to perform will just give him the push he needs to become resurrected sooner rather than later. If we're the ones who help him out, we'll be spared when he returns to full power."

Let me tell you a story about a little pokémon I'd like to call Amelia. She was just a pupitar at the time, but she was serving under a vicious fire lord -- Heatran -- under the belief that, despite how hellish and powerful he was, she'd be spared of his wrath.

Well, there came a time when restraint was non-existent, and Heatran's flame scorched even her, and she joined us.

Darkrai will be no different. You may be spared for a little while, but sooner or later, he will come after you.

Summon him if you feel you have to, but I will be there when you do, and my team will fight him with you at our side or not.

    ‡ Round 76 ‡

Carson looks uncomfortable, much like a certain Pupitar once looked uncomfortable when you tried to explain the error of her ways. Carson, however, remains steadfast.

"That's a great story, but Darkrai is much more powerful and much more merciful than some phoney-baloney Pokemon like Heatran," Carson says. "We'll serve him loyally and he reward our dedication with unwavering protection. End of story. Now, listen... this has been a great chat and all, but you need to scram. I meet with my brethren soon and, er, I can't enter the hideout with you standing right here watching. If my brethren knew how much I've told you, they'd have my hide. Can you just do me a favour and... just bugger off?

Sure, I could just go about my business while you and your team of ragtag misfits summon evil incarnate to take over the world, or I could also just keep threatening you with my giant clay robot until you realize that what future you've planned for yourself is just never gonna happen.

"Fair enough," Carson says. "I warned you, though. Don't say I didn't."

Suddenly, he begins emitting a mewling cry that sounds vaguely... melodic? You realize he's Singing a lullaby and, as this thought crosses your mind, a surge of fatigue washes over your mind and body. Your eyelids grow heavy as you collapse to the boardwalk below. Sleep takes you.

You're then woken by a sudden blasting sound. You slowly open your eyes and see a couple of Yanmas doing battle overhead. They're trading off SonicBoom attacks.

You sit up alongside Brigitte and Megazord. You have no idea how much time has passed, but Carson doesn't seem to be anywhere nearby.

    How do you proceed?

No sense in standing around. Let's take a look and see if we can't find anything out of the ordinary.

    ‡ Round 78 ‡

You begin searching for anything unusual. As it turns out, your search doesn't take very long: you glance over at the tree stump poking out of the water and realize it looks a little... odd. Brigitte hops from the boardwalk to the stump. She gives the stump a hearty tug and ends up lifting off the top of it like a manhole. You lean over and see a tunnel leading through the stump deep underground.

"I can't believe I worked with Carson for years and didn't realize what a creeper he was," Brigitte mutters as she teeters on the edge. "He's part of a freaky occultist clan of nutjobs who hide in a top-secret chasm under a dirty old pond. Unbelievable."

Megazord, return for now. We need to be sneaky, and, no offense, you're not exactly-- wait, you're a ghost. You should be able to become invisible! Yes, you're probably best suited of all of us to go in and spy on the band of six.

Go on down and report your findings!

    ‡ Round 79 ‡

Why play the recon game when you can get your big scary golem friend to do it for you? Megazord goes entirely invisible before slipping down the hole out of sight. Meanwhile, you and Brigitte hang out on the boardwalk without much to occupy your time. You busy yourself by watching a Gastrodon and her little Shellos babies drifting through the water.

After a long wait that lasts several minutes, you hear something clambering out of the manhole. Megazord then lifts his invisibility and tells you about his findings. He informs you that way more than six Pokemon have congregated down there—dozens, in fact, all wearing identical hooded cloaks. Apparently, while you were sleeping, a unit of six Pokemon were deployed to Maos Temple in the Nevshard Badlands to perform the Second Ceremony. Eep.

    How do you proceed?
