As the battle presses on, star-shaped fireworks go off around Rosalinda as her Wish comes true. Her energy grows exponentially. She tries to put Kyogre to sleep with a Hypnosis, but the attempt failed. The great leviathan counters with a Thunder Wave, which causes Rosalinda's limbs to grow stiff and rigid. She then decides to Rest. As she closes her eyes and drifts off to sleep, her body begins to repair itself. Her Paralysis ebbs away as quickly as it came and her health begins to increase. Kyogre is once again locked up with Paralysis. Unable to act, it floats there, watching as Rosalinda pulls off a Relax. Finally, when Kyogre is again able to act, it uses another mighty Aqua Tail. Rosalinda is struck but manages to sleep right through it.

The Aqua Ring and Toxic both come into play for Kyogre, though the latter is now more powerful than the former.

Unable to see anything, you shout for Harumi to use Rain Dance. Suddenly, stormclouds gather in the sky and rain begins to fall over Panbau Sanctuary. You hear a number of aggravated shouts coming from the Heatmor. This must be good. For a brief second, the sun comes back out, but the rain promptly resumes. There seems to be a weather tug-o-war going on.

The two Heatmor standing guard turn back toward you.



"Shout anymore commands and I won't wait to burn you at the stake," one of the guards says. "I'll roast you here and now."

"Wait, hold on," the other says, craning his neck to see around you and Pamela. "Where did that Durant go?"

"Pwincess Emewald," Pamela says, sniffling. "We need to get outta hewe! My Pokemons might be injuwed!"

Having survive the first elimination, you proceed to the next round. Pan steps into the ring of snow to perform her appeal. Using Substitute, she creates a little Rhydon plushie. She hoists the Substitute up off the ground and Flings it high into the air. It soars up near the roof of the cave and, when it reaches its climax, Pan goes for the kill. She unleashes a Secret Power blast, which lights up the cave with bluish-white light. The Substitute bursts into a million pieces and begins raining stuffing down over the cavern like snow. The Ice Cannon has been fired. And that's the appeal!

As Pan moves aside to let the next team into the ring of snow, your fate is once again up to the judges...

As the Heatmor run off in search of Durant, you and Pamela get to work on the cage. As the bars are made out of bamboo, the pair of you start pushing against them in an attempt to break free. The bars flex against your pressure and you continue pushing until it finally snaps. You and Pamela then squeeze out of the cage. A Heatmor running past you stops dead when she sees that you've escaped.



"The prisoners are free!" she shouts. "The prisoners are free!"

She lunges toward you, causing you and Pamela run off in opposite directions. You wildly sprint through the camp, dodging around the little huts, until you reach the outer wall of the camp. Dead end. You turn around and see a Heatmor trio advancing upon you.



Looking around, you see some bamboo stalks, a few rocks, some dirt, a twist of rope and an empty bucket.

Rosalinda just kind of floats there creepily in the water as Kyogore continues its assault. It spews Toxic gunk all over Rosalinda, inducing a rather nasty status condition. Uh-oh. Fortunately, Rosalinda then begins to mutter in her sleep. Kyogre attacks with an Origin Pulse, but Rosalinda Teleports out of the way of the move. Suddenly, Rosalinda wakes up. Yay! Time to kick some Kyogre ass! Using Thunder! Gardevoir learns Thunder, right? That is totally a move Gardevoir can move, yes?

Welp, as it turns out, Gardevoir can't use Thunder. Rosalinda scrunches up her face and concentrates to no avail. Kyogre then attacks Rosalinda with an Ancient Power. It then receives health from the Aqua Ring and loses even more health from the Toxic. Rosalinda takes Toxic damage too.

"I am now ready to announce the second round results!" Flavius declares. "Well done to you all. Generally speaking, the judges thought these appeals were even stronger than the previous ones. The judges like the way the Coordinators devised appeals that complemented the Pokemon's personalities. However, they were divided by how well they felt these appeals suited the theme of the round—some judges felt the appeals matched the theme perfectly, while others disagreed. Nonetheless, here are the scores... and it looks like we have a tie for first place! With an 8.5 out of 10, Ace Trainer Marissa and Mega Charizard Y as well as Guy Whose Name I Don't Know and Pangoro were the top Coordinators for this round! Psychic Carlos and Gothitelle followed with a score of 8.0 out of 10. That means Fisherman Desmond and Sealeo, your 7.5 out of 10 puts you in last. Yes, sadly, the only Ice-type Pokemon in the Contest has been eliminated."

Fisherman Desmond breaks out into ugly sobs and runs wailing from the cavern.

As the battle continues, Rosalinda makes up for the failed Thunder with a successful Thunderbolt. Electricity rips through Kyogre's body, bringing its health even lower. The leviathan closes its eyes and begins to Rest. Dang it! It begins to regain health. No longer Paralyzed, Kyogre is once again the speedier Pokemon in play. It begins to Sleep Talk. It releases a Scalding jet of water, which smacks Rosalinda square in the gut and leaves her with a nasty Burn keepsake. Guess Kyogre hacked the RNG, huh?

Rosalinda, however, refuses to be deterred. She cuts loose with Thunderbolt number two, which deals just as much damage as Thunderbolt number one. Kyogre goes into a second Sleep Talk, prompting Rosalinda to turn away with the expectation of something nasty coming, but she's spared. Kyogre uses Aqua Ring, which fails, given the fact that it already has one of those thingies. Huzzah! Rosalinda dishes out a third Thunderbolt to the slumbering giant. She tents her fingers. Excellent.

Kyogre's Aqua Ring gives it a little health. Rosalinda's Toxic and Burn give her the opposite. Fortunately, as Kyogre's energy bottomed out with the Rest, its fatigue has been slowly sucking its health away over the course of the round. For the first time this battle, Rosalinda is winning in both the HP and EP departments. This is good.

Kyogre and Rosalinda trade off another Sleep Talk and Thunderbolt. Rosalinda finds herself on the receiving end of a Secret Power while Kyogre is thoroughly zapped. Its health is now in the critical range. When Kyogre opens its eyes, it sees another Thunderbolt whizzing its way. It manages to forge a Protect in time. The Thunderbolt surges against the barrier and diffuses out into the open water.

"I know when I have been bested," Kyogre says in a booming voice. "The way you two battled was truly inspiring. Though you came into the fight at a disadvantage, you were able to utilize your assets in order to gain the upperhand. I see now how you were able to stop the virus. No doubt a group as cunning as you could halt the ocean current if you tried. I concede defeat. It would be an honour if you allowed me to serve as a member of your team."

Perseus, use Helping Hand on Pan as she creates Rock Tomb in the snow -- make the largest tomb you can! Perseus will then use Psychic to lift a lot of snow and blanket the tomb with it. Pan, you'll then Dig a trench around the tomb fort and use a Fire Punch to shovel some of that snow into the trench to melt it into a nice moat that surrounds the fort. Finally, Perseus, once you're both inside the tomb fort, I want you to call forth a Misty Terrain to give it a nice mystery feeling.

Time for the third appeal! Perseus and Pan take their places in the ring of snow. Perseus begins by giving his partner a raucous round of applause. With her skills boosted, Pan creates a series of large boulders that stack on top of one another as a Rock Tomb. Perseus jumps in with a Psychic attack and lifts a bunch of snow off the ground. He covers then deposits the snow on the tomb to give it a nice wintry exterior. Pan starts Digging a trench around the tomb. Her fists then ignite with a bright, glowing Fire Punch. The crowd watches intently. She starts pummeling the snow around the trench, pushing it into the mote and melting it down to water. Perseus and Pan then go inside the fort and peer out at the audience. Using Misty Terrain, Perseus creates a gentle pink fog that surrounds the exterior to give it some ambience. And that's the appeal!

Perseus and Pan leave the fort. For the third and final time, your fate will be left up to the judges...

You grab a bamboo stalk in each hand and start flailing like mad toward your opponents. They seem surprised. One of them opens his mouth, perhaps to release a Flamethrower, but you use your bamboo to give him a good slap in the face. The other one does the same and you give her a sharp jab in the tummy, causing her to double over.

Looking around, you see chaos has erupted. You catch a glimpse of Pamela, Harumi and Prospero running like mad as the Heatmor pursue them. Fires have broken out all around the camp, which seems to be a problem as the rain has stopped. This ain't good.

You tell Harumi to use Rain Dance, which she does. Raindrops begin to fall from the sky. As you sprint toward the gate, sunlight soon parts the rainclouds and heats up your surroundings.

"There are too many Heatmor here!" Harumi shouts. "It's super hard to keep the Rain Dance going! I start it up and they fight it off with Sunny Day!"

As the four of you head back toward the exit, you come to a halt. The gate, which towers way above you, has been closed. An impenetrable wall of wooden stakes stands in front of you. You glance over and see a hand crank, which you presume opens the gate. Turning around, you see... yep...





You have been cornered by even more Heatmor. Still no sign of where Coral, Seze, Charizard and Glaceon might be.

Overall, we had three strong appeals on our hands, though the judges were a little, ah, strict about their definition of snow fort. Those of you who brought in other elements to construct your fort were critiqued. Nonetheless, everyone received a strong score, so the question remains... whose score was strong enough to allow them to advance to the Battle Phase? Time to find out! With a 9 out of 10, Ace Trainer Marissa, Mega Charizard X and Mega Charizard Y will advance! Congratulations! Then, with an 8.5 out of 10... Psychic Carlos, Gothitelle and Reuniclus as well as Guy Whose Name I Don't Know, Gallade and Pangoro are tied! Oh my! What a unique development!"

A chorus of intrigued murmurs runs through the onlookers.

"Yes, yes, this doesn't normally happen," Flavius says. "We have a tie for last place, but only one of you can advance to the Battle Phase alongside Marissa. Fortunately, we have a contingency plan for just such an occasion! In order to determine which of you will carry on in the Contest, we will go to the Riddle Tiebreaker!"

The intrigued murmurs escalate. Flavius searches through his sack and unearths a scarlet envelope.

"The Riddle Tiebreaker is quite simple," he explains, opening the scarlet envelope. "I have a riddle right here. Carlos, Guy Whose Name I Don't Know, the first person to deliver a correct answer to the riddle will continue to the next round! Good luck!"

He clears his throat and recites the riddle:

She performs another Rain Dance and changes form. Before the Heatmor can change the weather back, Harumi erupts with a wide-reaching explosion of water. The Heatmor are mowed over and lie dazed on the ground.





Pamela runs up to one of the dazed Heatmor and kicks it happily in the arm.



"Take that, you big wude bully!" she cries happily.

Suddenly, you hear a roar from the far eastern side of the camp. You suspect that might be one of your other party members. Meanwhile, the fallen Heatmor start pulling themselves up.

Harumi, Pamela and Prospero hurry along after you as you rush toward the souce of the roaring sound. You come along an open space on the eastern side of the camp. Your Pokemon are here.



They are bound, gagged and tied to a tall stake. A large fire has been built around them and is consuming the lower halves of their bodies. They have looks of pain on their faces. Their Fire resistances seem to be keeping them alive, but you're not sure how long that's going to last. A number of Heatmor stand between you and your burning Pokemon.






One of the Heatmor snaps her fingers, bringing Sunny Day back into full swing. She also tells Harumi she looks like a gay pinata made by a drunk toddler with poor motor control. Yep, that's a Taunt. Harumi is Taunted.



"That was a very unkind thing for you to say!" Harumi says to the Heatmor.

Not far away, on the ground beside the fire, a pair of Heatmor are physically restraining Pamela's Charizard, who is growling and roaring.

Carlos mutters something about putting a terrible curse on you and your children and your children's children before leaving the cavern.

"Marissa, Guy Whose Name I Don't Know, the Battle Phase will now begin," Flavius says. "This part of the Contest comprises a double battle. Whereas some Contests include special battles where style and finesse are assessed, this is not one of those Contests. Your only goal is to defeat both of your opponent's Pokemon. The winner will take home the grand prize. Understood? Marissa, your Charizard must begin the battle in their base forms, though you can Mega Evolve them once the match begins."

You watch as Marissa's Mega Charizard X and Mega Charizard Y revert back to their usual appearance.



"There are no banned moves; however, subs will not be allowed for this battle," Flavius says. "Guy Whose Name I Don't Know, since you did not score as high as Marissa during the appeals, you will have to attack first. You may now issue commands to both your Gallade and your Pangoro. Good luck!"

However, since the sun is shining, the Hydro Pump comes out as a piddly squirt. Additionally, the Weather Ball comes out as a Fire-type move, which doesn't bother the Heatmor. The only thing that does noticeable damage is the Hurricane. It wipes out two of the Heatmor.






Looks like you're going to have to try a little harder. Meanwhile, Harumi remains Taunted.

"Let me know if I can help!" Prospero says.



As all this goes on, the fire continues licking away at your poor Pokemon.

Time for the battle to begin! You issue commands to Perseus and Pan. Ace Trainer Marissa hears you and responds with commands of her own.



“Ardour, use Swords Dance followed by a Sky Drop on Perseus!” she cries. “Fervour, hit Perseus with a Fire Blast! After that, target Pan with a DragonBreath and then a SolarBeam!”

One of the Charizard begins pirouetting on the spot while the other attacks Persues with a scorching blast of flames. Pan begins with an Embargo directed at the first Charizard as Perseus conjures up a dense pink mist, but the Misty Terrain halves its power. One of the Charizard then zips toward Persues, grabs onto him and takes him up into the sky. The other Charizard attacks Pan with a burst of purplish energy. It’s a hit! Pan responds with another Embargo. Now both of the Fire dragons are affected.

As Persues is dragged about through the sky, he finds himself unable to attack. Charizard then brings him slamming down to the ground. Ouch. That looked painful. The other Charizard then begins drawing in sunlight, but it looks like this is gonna take a while, as there doesn’t seem to be much sunlight in this here cave. Perseus and Pan then unleash attacks: a Dazzling Gleam and a Stone Edge! The latter scores a crit. Nice.

With the round over, you now have to wait for your opponent to issue commands…
