Where are Yami and Aikoku? Yurei, use Hypnosis until it works to hold off Giratina for now and then use Dream Eater.

    CYNDER'S SAFARI ADVENTCHA!

    Crush Quarry
A dangerous quarry home to Rock and Ground types. Footing is loose, and there's always work being done. A few Fighting types and some rare Steel types also make their homes here. Within the mining tunnles you may find a few rare passages...

    ‡ Round 214 ‡

"Like I said over Extrasensory," Gallade says as he swings his forearm blades at the Griseous Orb, "after we were separated from you and Yurei, we were jumped by the workers we met outside. In the ensuing battle, we lost track of Yami and Aikoku. We don't know where the are of if they're even still together. Hopefully they'll get here soon."

Severely weakened, Yurei lulls the Legendary Pokemon into a deep sleep using her Hypnotic talents. She quickly follows this up with a couple of Dream Eaters, trying to suck as much health from Giratina as possible. Giratina then erupts with a pair of Snores.

    How do you proceed?

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. Anyway, Carry on with the Dream Eaters ('til it wakes) and Hexs.

While Gallade and Garchomp continue attacking the Griseous Orb, Yurei and Giratina exchange one more Dream Eater for one more Snore. Suddenly, the great beast wakes and Yurei hits him with a couple of Hexes, but Giratina retaliates with a powerful Shadow Ball. Yurei is thrown backward.

Now at the brink of defeat, Yurei can't even get up as Giratina trudges forth to deliver the finishing blow. It raises its Shadow Claw and they bristle with shadowy energy. With an upsurge of energy, Giratina lashes out with a Shadow Claw...

And Yami saves the day! Where's Aikoku? Anyway, use shadow claw and Night Daze until it is at about 10 HP, then Protect against any other attack afterwards.

Caucus, Zord and Fenrir will distract him -- you get in his blindspot and free the others with the Black Shard.

"You've been causing quite a stir, Heatran. I'm actually surprised you haven't killed off those two yet."

Fenrir, use Taunt to keep his eyes on you, then Focus Energy. Lastly, strike him with Zap Cannon after his evasion is neutralized.

Falconzord, it's hard to tell, but if we're outside -- start a Rain Dance -- otherwise, use Work Up. Then use Foresight to dampen his evasive ability. Finally, use Hurricane!

    ‡ Round 216 ‡

Yurei hangs back as Yami, rockin' a super-convenient Dark typing, steps up to the plate. Yami tears into the Legendary with a shadowy slash and a blast of darkness as Giratina exhibits some battle prowess of its own with a pair of Aura Spheres. The Legendary tries flinging a third crackling energy sphere, but Yami Protects himself with a black shield.

Suddenly, a squawk can be heard as Aikoku soars into the room, a little late but welcome nonetheless. Then, seconds after, you watch as Garchomp assaults the Orb with a bright Dragon Rage. This attack finally does the trick: suddenly, the Griseous Orb glows bright and explodes into a burst of blue, pink and silver sparkles. Giratina lets out a wail. Then, without warning, the beast heads skyward and cleaves out a hole through the cavern ceiling. It escapes into daylight and soars away, but the Orb shards let out a faint hum which communicates Giratina's parting words.

Trainer, you have proven your worth. I will be waiting back in my realm. There, you will battle me one final time and, if you can best me in combat, you may capture me.

You are warned that, this time, I will not hold back.

"So this whole time he was going easy on you?" Garchomp asks. "Well, uh. Damn."

    GREYFOX'S SAFARI ADVENTCHA!

    Shinsuke Volcano
This Volcanic Island - previously hidden away can now be seen from the shore. A massive pool of magma lies deep in its center, but one can walk down quite a ways and find a variety of Fire Types enjoying the heated tunnels. Some hardier Flying Pokemon line the edges of the Volcano as well. A tall Pagoda stands on the Island as well, the only man-made structure here. If you fish from shore, Water Pokemon encounter rates are the same as for Tranquil Shores.

    ‡ Round 193 ‡

"So you're the Trainer who freed the prisoners and destroyed my plan of escape," Heatran says. His voice is deep and craggy like churning rocks. "I suppose you have bested Amelia as well, then? Her skills of duplicity amaze me, but she was faint of heart. I can expect nothing less."

Suddenly, before Fenrir and Falconzord can attack, Heatran breathes a towering circle of flames flames that reach almost to the ceiling around your Umbreon and Pidgeot. They huddle close, trapped. The Legendary then watches as Caucus, carrying the Black Shard, tiptoes toward Simon and Charlie. With a quick Fire Blast, he throws Caucus back into the far wall. Your Breloom is left with a nasty Burn.

"Simon and Charlie are dying. When they perish, you four will be next," Heatran says.

    How do you proceed?

Garchomp decides to stay back and assist with dealing with the damage left to Crush Quarry by Giratina's wrath. She wishes you all good luck as Gallade heals you all of your pains. Then, hopping aboard Aikoku, you and the others head out.

Eventually, you return to Platrin Plateau. Oddly, a lot of the damage left by Giratina's initial rampage seems to have been repairs. It's almost as though this beauteous place has the ability to restore itself.

You see the Blissey you met earlier chatting animatedly with some other Pokemon. It appears as though something has just happened.

    CYNDER'S SAFARI ADVENTCHA!

    Platrin Plateau
A strange, mysterious temple set high in the sky. You can only enter the road to the temple by releasing the seal chanted by the ancients long ago. There are two shrines, one in Sunshine plains, and one in Grave's Yard. They are inconspicuous, the Grave's Yard shrine is a maouselum of sorts. Here, you will find exceptionally strong Pokemon in the various rooms and spaces of this ancient land set high in the sky. If you are lucky, you may stumble on a Legend or two?

    ‡ Round 218 ‡

You approach Blissey and ask what happened.

"Oh, it was the funniest thing," she says. "That thing reappeared at the gates! Well, not thing... Giratina, I think its name is? Anyway, this time around it didn't harm anyone at all. It simply glided into the temple in the direction of the Crystal Gallery."

"Makes sense," Gallade murmurs. "Without the Griseous Orb, Giratina has no reason to remain in this world. It bears no control over it, and thus it wouldn't waste its time attacking anyone here."

Confident that Giratina has indeed returned to the other dimension, you and your Pokemon enter the temple and quickly make foot toward the Crystal Gallery. Once there, you see the platinum mirror amidst the other valuables.

"This is it," Gallade says. "I suspect that, once we cross through to the other side, it will be difficult for us to reach Giratina. Though you've proven your worth to it, I imagine Girtina will still want to make things challenging for you... even before you engage it in battle. Are you sure you're up for it?"

    How do you proceed?

Yup, let's go! Before we head in though, Yami, Yurei and Aikoku all use Agility to be on the safe side if we need to dodge anything or get around quickly.

Zord, send the wall of flames back to him by using Hurricane. Then, once you are free from them, use Agility to get over to Caucus and poison him with Toxic! Keep Caucus protected while he frees the others.

Fenrir, once you're free from his fire wall, keep his eyes on you -- Taunt. Then use Dig!

Caucus -- once Falconzord is with you, try to free Simon and Charlie with the shard.

Since Yami is the only one of your Pokemon to learn Agility, he's the only who initially performs the move. However, Yurei is able to Mimic the attack while Aikoku copies the effect with Mirror Move, allowing your other two fighters to gain the stat boost as well. With that, you and your Pokemon enter the mirror. Once again, you're sent through a spaceless void and wind up standing with your back to the black metal gates. You survey the dark, twisted garden.

Looks like some familiar folks have been waiting for you. You see several Salamences, several Aerodactyls, a Blissey and a Raichu all peering at you with devious grins. As well, you see a Mismagius, a small herd of Camerupts, a Venusaur, a Magnezone and a pair of fierce Armaldos giving you unsettling glares.

"I think we're going to have our work cut out for us," Gallade murmurs.

Falconzord tries to repel the looming ring of flames, but this fire is unlike any you've ever witnessed and refuses to so much as gutter in the wind. Fenrir tries to Dig but, with a crash, the part of the ground surrounded by flames gives way and the pair tumbles down to the floor below. You suspect they've fallen into the subterranean prison from which you just escaped.

All alone, Caucus does his best to free the burning Pokemon. He evades Heatran's next Fire Blast and, with several quick motions, manages to cut Charlie free. However, as he dives toward Simon, Heatran lets out a frustrated roar.

"I will not be overcome!" Heatran roars. "You will all burn!"

Suddenly, the Lava Dome Pokemon Overheats. Flames leap from his every limb and cling to the room's every surface—floor, ceiling and wall alike. The flames grow until you find yourself trapped in an absolute inferno with smoke and fire billowing on all sides. You start coughing and look around for any sign of your Pokemon, but you can't see a thing. Your eyes quickly grow dry and sting.

The only noise you can hear over the roaring flames is the sound of Heatran trudging out the chamber's exit and rolling the massive rock in front of the doorway, thereby trapping you inside.

Charlie, if that's you, lemme know. Right now, you're our best hope for taming this fiery bastard. Let me climb on your back as you strike at the ground with Earthquake. Rupture the ground so much that it breaks the floor and takes us downstairs! That should hopefully knock him off balance.

    ‡ Round 197 ‡

Unable to see more than a few feet in either direction, you call out to see if your Pokemon are perhaps on the other side of the pile of rubbing blocking your path, but you get no response. Suddenly, the flames prove to be too much. As you collapse and do your best to cling to consciousness, you just barely make out a short figure pushing past the rubble. Then, with a flash of light, this short figure grows in size. Two strong green arms pick you and Charlie up off the ground and, though your thoughts are hazy, you suspect this is Caucus.

The figure then carries you not only out of the burning prison, but out of the tunnel network altogether. As you're carried up the stairs into the pagoda, you vaguely realize you and Charlie are not the only ones being carried, but also Caucus, Falconzord, Fenrir and Simon as well. You can only imagine the sort of Strength required for this feat! Once outside, the two strong arms holding onto you set you down on the ground. As your head grows clear and your vision returns, you peer up at your saviour.

"I saw smoke," she says simply. "I figured you guys could use a little help. And... holy crap, I have arms now! Arms!"

    ‡ Pre-Round ‡

    Acquisitions
    1 Black Shard
    Available

    ‡ Round 198 ‡

You hang around outside the pagoda until everyone is once again in fighting shape.

"I know exactly where that filthy bag of scum probably went, too," Amelia says. She then pauses and begins to toe the ground. "Listen, guys, for everything I did, I'm sorry. I don't have a lot of... well, I just spend most of my time by myself, you see, so when Heatran came along looking for allies, I didn't see any reason not to join up. I'm not a bad Pokemon. I hope you can see that. I know I can't undo everything I did, but if you guys will trust me enough to lead you to Heatran, hopefully I can try to make amends."

    How do you proceed?

Right, run into the crowd of Camerupts and Yami, use Illusion to disguise us as one of them. Then, in the confusion, make a break for the door.

    ‡ Round 199 ‡

Appearing genuinely grateful for your forgiveness, Amelia leads you, your Pokemon, Simon and Charlie northward across the island. Eventually, you step out onto a stretch rocky beach where waves break against black rocks. Here, you surreptitiously join a cluster of fifty-odd Pokemon peering at someone who seems to be addressing them. Unsurprisingly, it's Heatran.

"This is where Heatran first rallied to find followers when he initially left the magma pool," Amelia whispers. "Now that you've wrecked all his plans, it appears he's trying to start all over again."

"Listen to me, inhabitants of Shinsuke Volcano!" Heatran bellows, unaware of your presence. "Do not be foolish! I value each of you and the strength and power you can supply to me and my goals. I will leave this island and I will impose my will upon the rest of the Safari Zone. Do you wish to stand alongside me in glory or would you rather be enslaved or defeated? The choice is obvious! Come, now... who will join my cause?"

    ‡ Round 220 ‡

Yami puts his skills to the test once again and casts Illusions around all of you. You join the Camerupts who peer around one another wildly, unsure which is the real deal and which is merely an Illusion. Suddenly, you watch as a pair of suspicious Camerupts charge one another aggressively. Then, the rest of the herd follows suit, attacking one another wildly. In the ensuing chaos, the five of you manage to break free and rush toward the temple.

However, you and Gallade can't keep up with your speedy Pokemon. When the other Pokemon finally notice the lot of you running away, you let out a grunt as the Venusaur snatches you and Gallade with Vine Whips and hoists you up into the air. Your Illusions drop.

They were frightened before, too frightened to stand up for themselves. But maybe if they see us take him on, they'll join in the fight. Whaddya say, team?

Caucus, shed a Spore out for Falconzord to blow over Heatran with Whirlwind. Let's see if that does anything.

If not, Fenrir, I want you and Simon to each hit him with a Secret Power to get his attention.

When he's facing us, I want Amelia and Charlie to hit him hard with dual-Earthquakes!

Heatran lets out a roar as he notices your presence. You issue commands, but Heatran merely blocks the onslaught with a Protect.

"You!" he roars. "You were supposed to be ashes by now! Fine, you wish to challenge my might? Denizens of Shinsuke, take heed! What I will do to these insurgents is what I will do to each and every one of you who fails to join my cause! Listen, Trainer... I will battle you, but only if you fight like a man. It will be done with honour... no ganging up like a coward. We will battle one-on-one, and if your Pokemon falls or needs to be recalled, then only then will you be allowed to send in a new battler. As well, you may only use the Pokemon belonging to you, and not the three stragglers tagging along. If I fall, you may capture me. Do you accept my terms?"

You find it a little hypocritical that Heatran should be talking about honour after sealing you in a blazing cavern. Nonetheless, Amelia nods, encouraging you to accept his terms.

Funny that you should talk about honor and glory as you're rallying a crowd of pokémon to either be slaves or adhere to domination, but I'm not here to make judgements, I'm here to make sure your reign of fiery terror is done.

Caucus, step up to the plate. His fire is hot, but your fists are powerful -- get in close and be swift -- Leech Seed to start, then blind him with Mud-Slap. Finally, as he's blinded, strike him with a Stone Edge!

Carry on going to the gate for now you three, and Gallade use Psychic to make Venusaur drop us. Then use Teleport us to Yurei and the others.

You send Caucus into battle first. Heatran laughs deeply at your choice, but Caucus does not seemed intimidated by the Legendary Pokemon. Instead, the Breloom unleashes a sudden Leech Seed which attaches itself to one of Heatran's legs. Ignoring the tiny seed for now, the Lava Dome Pokemon jumps right in with his signature move: a storm of molten stone targets Caucus with its wrath, assaulting him within its swirling eddies. Caucus, however, kicks some wet sand into Heatran's eyes and dives at him with a Stone Edge. Heatran's ability kicks in and leaves Caucus with a nasty Burn.

Bellowing, Heatran fires off two Fire Blasts. Though his Accuracy is compromised, he manages to land both hits and leaves Caucus weak and scorched. The Leech Seed then glows and transfers a little health from Heatran to Caucus, but the ongoing effects of Magma Storm as well as the Burn more than offset this.

Falconzord lets out a shrieking cry and raises her wings toward the heavens. Clouds billow in off the ocean and soon soak the beach with a hundred of cold raindrops. They strike Heatran's scorching body and cause tiny plumes of steam to rise off the molten Pokemon.

Shifting his strategy, Heatran begins Taunting Falconzord, telling him how birds are good for nothing but Thanksgiving dinner. (You're skeptical that Heatran has ever taken part in a Thanksgiving dinner, but you don't take him to task for this comment.) Suddenly, your Pidgeot closes his eyes and begins Biding his energy. Unaware of what this tactic could be, Heatran dives in with a pair of Stone Edges.

Once satisfied with the duration of his Bide, Falconzord unleashes the energy in a powerful blast. However, Heatran's defences are particularly strong against Normal-type moves, causing Heatran to take less damage overall than Falconzord... even with Bide's boost in power.

Falconzord folds his wings and harrumphs. It sure would be nice if that -1 Acc would kick in sooner rather than later!
