Falkner was pathetically easy. I was worried about Mud-Slap, but he never used it. Not that he had a whole lot of turns in which to use it, given how quickly I Embered away his HP.
After him, I picked up the Mystery Egg and hoofed it to Union Cave, avoiding the trainers along the way. I fought a grand total of two guys. Then I set out to catch Onix.
It took forever, first to find an Onix (5% appearance rate), then to weaken it. I was high-level enough so that one Ember came pretty close to fainting local Geodude, but I didn't want to use that on Onix for fear of accidentally fainting it and having to look for another one. So, Tackle it was. Smokescreen and Leer became my friends.
I whittled it down to 3 HP and then started tossing balls. It broke out of five before finally staying in my sixth and last Pokéball...which caught me by surprise, by then I'd consigned myself to having to use the Great Ball I'd found in Route 32. Now I can save the Great Ball for Pineco. ^_^

    Team:
    Onix L6 (Tackle, Screech)
Quilava "FIRE" L18 (Ember, Tackle, Leer, Smokescreen)

Next: I'll give Onix Mud-Slap and train it up to handle Bugsy.

Yeah go for it. Anyway good update Poryhedron. You'll have it a lot easier now that Onix will listen to you Also, YAY for pineco!

Also, Mud-slap is not very effective against bugs so? You might wanna try rockthrow.

WHAT THE FUCK! METAL SOUND?! In GSC? What the hell are you doing?

    Update:

    Character: Maggie
    Type: Normal
Reason: Cuz y wanna defeet Amaruu!1!1 (seriously I want to do Normal aswell and get through it with different pokemon)
    Progress:

Not much, because of long sleep. Released Ecruteak dogs and caught Tauros and Miltank. Miltank was a pain in the ass to catch so most of my time went into that. Small small update. Not sure if I'm going to train tauros though. Training Miltank to l.17 and will then defeat Kimono sisters.

    Pokemon:

    Wrath | Ursaring [M]
    Level 30
    *Headbutt
    *Mud Slap
    *Rest
    *Faint attack
    >> Major attack and HP, will become STalker with Return and Shadowball/EQ/Curse.

    Lust | Miltank [F]
    Level 14
    *Headbutt
    *Stomp
    *Defense Curl
    *Growl

    >> Yeah standard. Milk Drink_Heal Bell_Seismictoss/Return/Body Slam_Curse/Shadowball/Filler

[Still rooting for a cleffa, if not I'll link over a clefairy from RBY. Tauros might be trained, dunno yet.]

I'm well aware that Mud-Slap is not the move to use against Bugsy, but it certainly helped me whup the Hikers and Firebreathers in Union Cave, and that helped me learn Rock Throw. I'd also had the foresight to pick up the Hard Stone from Arthur of Thursday, to help at least a little in countering Onix' bad Attack. With these two useful STAB moves on my side, I powered through the Slowpoke Well incident and then crushed everyone in the Bug-type Gym.

Then I headed toward Ilex and got myself into the Rival Battle. Gastly went down with only two Mud-Slaps but used Spite between the two, costing me three more Mud-Slap PP (remember, this is out of 10.) Then out came Croconaw. I opened with Mud-Slap for the Accuracy Down, knowing that was my only hope. Croconaw replied with Water Gun, and despite having three levels on Croconaw, Onix immediately belly-upped.

Hmm. I've got my work cut out for me.

    Team:
Onix L19 (Rock Throw, Mud-Slap, Screech, Tackle)
    Egg
Quilava "FIRE" L18 (Ember, Tackle, Leer, Smokescreen)

Next: Can you say "mindless level-building"? I know you can.

    Character: Maggie

    Progress:

So I did train Lust to l.17 before smashing the Kimono sisters, earing Surf and teaching it to Lust so she'd have something to battle the ghosts with.

I then defeated gym trainers with some difficulties, my low leveled miltank, lust wasn't really cut out for it, but she managed.

    Morty

Defeated Gastly with Surf, because of Curse, I switched her out for Wrath, he faint attack'ed Haunter in one blow. Gengar was no match for my l.21 Lust so I decided to cut back Gengars accuracy with Mudslap. He fainted off two mudslaps o.o. Last Haunter was put down by surf again.

    *

I defeated all the trainers on my way to olivine and my egg hatched. It was a Magby. I didn't like it, put it away and searched for a Clefairy on my Blue. After finding one (this took pretty long) I traded it over to Crystal and saved my game. Training is for tomorrow.

    Pokemon:

    Wrath | Ursaring [M]
    Level 30
    *Return
    *Mud Slap
    *Rest

Reason: They can be quite shocking in battle and are often referred to as "Livewires." The perfect source of power for my AMP.
    Version: Silver
    Progress:

I hadnt had much time, but I got some done. After the Burnt Tower, I battled the Eon sisters (which I had previously forgotten about) and got my Surf tm. Then, I battled Morty, using all sorts of attacks and using all of my pokemon. He kept cursing me and putting me to sleep, but my pogeys were too strong hehe.

Then I went down to Olivine, had a chat with my rival and caught a few Krabbys. I traded one to the fat guy for his Voltorb, and learnt the other one surf, for I won't be able to catch Chinchou without the Super Rod. Sigh. I did however, acquire the Good Rod.

Then I did the whole lighthouse thing, blowing through the mostly water and flying pokemon with Voltorb who was soon nearly evolved. I then used some EXP with a few Krabby battles (My Amphy was taught Rock Smash) and I headed out to Cianwood. I switched out my pokemon until I thought they were on suitable levels, and went over to the island.

I talked to everyone and smashed some above rocks, catching unusable shuckle and battling chuck, which was almost difficult. I took care of most of them with Electabuzz and Ampharos, Jolteon came in a one point and got finished quickly. But Maggy got to take down Poliwrath, and luckily he OHKOd him before Dynamic punch. I then got the medicine, heading back, healing a fellow Ampharos.

I then went as far over to Mahogany as I could, training, because this would be a tough battle. Hopefully some fire punches from Electabuzz and a rollout or two from Electrode would do it...

    TO BE CONTINUED.....

I needed to build an Onix that could survive two Water Guns (if it could only survive one before falling to a second, the battle would last for about as many turns as I had Potions before I would finally succumb.) This required more than just level-building, and Calciums are not to be found this early in the game.
So it was that I found myself making the long hike back to...Sprout Tower. Gastly's base SDF is only 35, but its SAT is 100, and that's the same as its base Special in RBY, so I figure that must be the Stat EXP it grants for both Special Stats, since the Special Stats are still somewhat interrelated in this generation. If I'm right, that's the best Special Stat EXP one can find at this point. During the daylight hours, when I couldn't meet Gastly, I headed to the Ruins of Alph to beat up on some Unown; since they weren't in RBY, I don't know how much Special Stat EXP they're worth, but their Special stats average higher than most of the other critters this early in the game.
It takes a while for a L20 pokémon to level up off L5 enemies, but that was the way I wanted it; more battles per levelup means more Stat EXP per levelup. The Mystery Egg hatched during this time, so I brought it to Prof. Elm (an excuse to pick up two more Berries), took his Everstone and deposited Togepi. In my time with GSC, I've found the little bundle of joy to be a surprisingly decent HMer (evolve it into Togetic and it can learn Fly!) but that's not the direction I'm taking this game.
When Onix reached level 24, I decided to try my luck against Kyle again. This time, his Gastly went down with only one Mud-Slap and didn't get to Spite me. Then his Croconaw emerged...and used Rage. I got in two Mud-Slaps before he finally remembered Water Gun was the way to go. I ended up losing that match because Water Gun was still able to take off ľ my HP with one hit, but the reminder that Kyle didn't automatically fight intelligently was a confidence booster, so I immediately tried again.
Again, Gastly went down in one hit, and I opened against Croconaw with Mud-Slap. This time around, Croconaw got to Water Gun sooner and we played the "you hurt me, I Super Potion, you hurt me, I Super Potion..." game, but finally the Mud-Slap gave me an opening in which to use another Mud-Slap, and finally Croconaw's accuracy was down enough that I had time to Screech at him before delivering a Rock Throw that practically slammed him into the fence. Then, I made exceedingly short work of Kyle's Zubat, and the battle was mine!
Entering Ilex Forest (at last!) I played fetch with Farfetch'd and taught Cut to my HMer, then picked up Headbutt and taught it to Onix. Then I went looking for Pineco...and I'm still looking. I've found three so far and all of them went boom the very first turn. Onix has levelled up three times off pokémon that fell from trees. This could take a bit.

    Team:
Onix L27 (Rock Throw, Headbutt, Screech, Mud-Slap)
Quilava "FIRE" L18 (Ember, Cut, Leer, Smokescreen)

    Progress:

Cleared out Lighthouse and ocean for some good expierence, then defeated Eusine with ease. Next stop: Cainwood City Gym. I went up ahead and defeate the gymtrainers with Ursaring who easily took care of them with Return.

    Chuck:

Miltank used Headbutt, Primeape leer, Miltank Headbutt, Primeape fainted.

Miltank used Headbutt, Poliwrath Hypnosis, missed, Headbutt, fainted.

    Easy badge.

Turned back towards Olivine and delivered the Secretpotion to cure Amphy. Then challenged Jasmine.

    Jasmine:

I mudslapped the two Magnemites to death with one Mudslap. Then Mudslapped Steelix for three times, Ursaring got killed by a succesfull Irontail. Then send out Miltank used Surf was in red, she hyper potion'ed, I used surf 3 times and faited Steelix, he was.

So I went over to Maghony town, finishing all the trainers on the routes before. I saved outside the pokemoncenter, will defeat Gyarados and Rockets later. Save.

Minor update: I now have a Pineco. I trained it for a short while in Ilex and then used it to clear Route 34, thanks in large part to the PC at the Day Care. In Goldenrod I decided to buy it another TM 02 so it would have a better attack than Tackle (it learned Take Down shortly after that, from battles in the Underground. Meh, whatever.) Got radio card, bike, Bill's phone number, etc. Will be heading north to catch a Scyther before I take on the Goldenrod Gym.

    Team:
    Pineco L16
    Take Down, Headbutt, SelfDistruct, Protect

    Onix L28
    Rock Throw, Headbutt, Screech, Mud-Slap

    FIRE L18
    Ember, Cut, Leer, Smokescreen

Next: the Bug-Catching Contest! Sure sounds like fun!

I battled the trainers on Route 35 to raise Pineco...Pineco fainted twice and I had to bring out Onix. First time it was against the Firebreather's Magmar, Pineco didn't stand a chance  Second time was against the Birdkeeper, his Pidgey's Gust was nothing, but then his Pidgeotto came out and got a Critical Hit on its own Gust. Ugh.
Anyway, I cleared out those trainers one way or another, and then saved outside the Park and did other things until midnight (it was rather close to midnight anyway.) When Saturday rolled around, I picked up the Game Boy again and entered the contest with Pineco.
First Scyther I met I used a Headbutt on. I got a critical hit and lowered it to pretty close to a third of its life. Dang it...it broke out of five Park Balls, and finally I decided to risk another Headbutt just in case I could get it down to 1 HP. No such luck, it fainted. Pineco grew a level off that Scyther. *sigh*...
Fortunately, it wasn't long before I met a second Scyther. Same gender, same level, coulda been the same Scyther for all I knew. Knowing that Take Down was stronger than Headbutt but not too much stronger, I decided to go that route. One hit lowered the Scyther down to just under half, which was more than I'd been expecting, but it looked just about right for a Headbutt...and sure enough, one Headbutt later the Scyther was way down in the red. It stayed in the first Park Ball I threw.
Now, bugs score better if you leave them with more HP remaining when you catch them, so I wasn't expecting to win (not that I cared; who needs Sun Stones on a Steel runthrough?) Nevertheless, I ended up taking first place with my new party member, so now there's a Sun Stone sitting in my PC.

    Team:
    Scyther L13
Quick Attack, Pursuit, Leer, Focus Energy

    Pineco L20
    Take Down, Headbutt, SelfDistruct, Protect

    Onix L29
    Rock Throw, Headbutt, Screech, Mud-Slap

    FIRE L18
    Ember, Cut, Leer, Smokescreen

Next: Scyther's going to get some levelling in Goldenrod Gym. A-crash-raising we will go!

Well, actually, I didn't do any crash-raising. You see, I remembered that there's stuff in the National Park other than the Bug-Catching Contest ¬_¬; so I went back in and defeated the trainers. Along the way I decided to teach Fury Cutter to Scyther, since I wasn't doing anything else with the TM. I also picked up Dig.
Now, I'd given a lot of thought previously to which pokémon to give Dig. It can be a useful Ground-type attack (at least ingame, where the enemy trainers are all Grimer-for-brains), but on the other hand, it's got a useful out-of-battle function too. I wanted to keep the out-of-battle function handy. I also want Steelix to end up with Earthquake, and if I taught Dig to Steelix I couldn't bear to replace it later. So, Dig went to my HMer. Onix can do with Mud-Slap for a while longer.
After finishing with the National Park, I headed down to Goldenrod Gym. Thanks to the training in the Park, Scyther was able to go toe-to-toe with all of the lesser Gym Trainers, and it also took out Whitney's Clefairy despite getting pegged with a Metronomed Rock Throw. Then Miltank went out and I promptly switched to Onix. two Mud-Slaps and Miltank's Rollout was rendered thoroughly useless. I Screeched and Rock Threw, and Miltank was sent packing.
Plain Badge in hand, I grabbed a SquirtBottle and made a nuisance of myself with it to get Sudowoodo to budge. Onix made short work of Sudowoodo despite its Low Kick, which it used frequently to not much effect at all.
I picked up Rock Smash, passed it to my HMer and called it a day.

    Team:
    Scyther L19
Quick Attack, Pursuit, Leer, Fury Cutter

    Pineco L20
    Take Down, Headbutt, SelfDistruct, Protect

    Onix L29
    Rock Throw, Headbutt, Screech, Mud-Slap

    FIRE L18
    Ember, Dig, Cut, Rock Smash

Next: Do my eyes deceive me? Is this...a wild Steel-type?

Team-fill update! I headed north, through Ecruteak, and into Route 38, where I nabbed a Magnemite easily! Yay! Then I kept heading west, avoiding all of the trainers for now, reached Olivine and grabbed the Good Rod and HM4. Good Rod in hand, I headed back to Ecruteak and did some fishing in the lake in the northeast corner of town. The Lure Ball Kurt gave me long ago made it easy to nab my second HMer, a Poliwag! Finally, a full belt...
I wiped the floor with the geisha girls and got HM3, then took on Morty so I could actually use the move. The gym was amazingly pathetic. Practically every ghost in there, including half of Morty's team, Cursed themselves to death. I was relieved when Morty's Gengar and his second Haunter actually managed to put up a fight.
With that out of the way, I headed east. Usually I do the sick Ampharos subplot before the Lake of Rage subplot, but this time I wanted the Thief TM waiting in the Mahogany base as soon as possible. The Red Gyarados managed to offline Magnemite twice, but Pineco finally laid down the smack with a few flinch-tastic Headbutts. Then Lance and I cleaned house in Mahogany, and I gained TM46 and HM6!

    Team:
    Pineco L25
Headbutt, Take Down, Rapid Spin, Protect

    Magnemite L26
    Thundershock, Sonicboom, Flash, Thunder Wave

    Scyther L26

    Onix L31

    L18FIRE and RAINL20

    RAIN: Surf, Thief, Whirlpool, Doubleslap

Next: Rain's gonna be a busy little Poliwag...

Yes, I am planning on putting Skarmory on the roster. I've got a way to go before I can catch it, and when I do, then I'll consider the question of who to remove. It'll certainly be either Scizor or Forretress...by that time, I'll have some decent experience with both and will be able to make that call.

Metal Coat hunting went faster than I thought it would. Rain only grew one level. Granted, I ran from anything that wasn't a Magnemite, and I couldn't faint every Magnemite because some ran away and one actually KOed Rain, but still, merely one level is an awfully short time to score two Metal Coats. (I thought about sticking around for a third to use for the 110% boost to Steel-type attacks, but decided against it.)

After that, I did some training with Scyther because I wanted Scizor to know both Wing Attack and Metal Claw (this requires evolving at level 30.) I used Scyther to defeat all of the trainers on Routes 38 and 39 (except for the one Pokéfan I was unable to avoid back when I picked up the Good Rod), and when that wasn't enough I entered the Lighthouse in Olivine and got a little over halfway up before Scyther reached level 30 and learned Wing Attack. With that done, I descended and entered Olivine Pokémon Center.

Next came the tricky part. You see, I'm playing this challenge on my Silver Version, my sister (who's away at college) is using my Crystal Version...and the battery has died on my Gold Version. So I hooked up Silver and Gold and started a new game on Gold. Since this new game didn't matter, I just named myself Gold and didn't nickname the Totodile I picked up (though I did take the time to name the rival Doofus, just 'cuz.) I sped through the bit with Mr. Pokémon and getting the Pokédex, then ducked into the Cherrygrove Pokémon Center and met up with myself in Silver, who had been waiting patiently in Olivine.

I was a bit nervous about whether this would work with Gold's battery dead, but it went flawlessly. Steve and Gold traded Scyther for Totodile, then Onix for Scizor, and finally Totodile for Steelix. Then they parted ways, I saved both games and turned off the GBA with Gold Version. Later, I turned it back on to check, and sure enough, Gold and his Totodile were no more.

So you can only use Steel Pokemon to beat the Game? Can you use Pokemon that use Steel Moves or learn them? as long as it's only Steel moves. They have Metal Claw, Steel Wing, Iron Tail, Hidden Power: Steel? Do they have anything else in G/S/C? like I know Sneasel learns Iron Tail in G/S and Metal Claw in Crystal and you could give it Hidden Power Steel, and maybe some Steel type name?

The very first post in this thread explains the rules of the challenge. Choose one type (Steel in my case, but there are also Normal and Electric games going on currently) and your battlers must all be of that type. Move type is irrelevant, so no, just because you teach a Quagsire Iron Tail does not mean it qualifies. (Shame, it'd come in handy against Fire-types, easily my biggest weakness now that Steelix isn't Rock-type anymore.) And no, there aren't any other Steel-type moves than those four.

I entered the waters of Route 40-41. I worked my way around each of the Whirl Islands to make sure I found and battled every trainer, and by the time I was done with that, Magnemite and Pineco had both evolved! I now have four Steel-types!
In Cianwood, I picked up the SecretPotion for poor Amphy, then challenged the Fighting-type gym while I was in the area. Scizor completely and utterly swept. Chuck's Poliwrath was the only pokémon in that whole gym who even got the chance to use a move; everyone else was taken down with a single Wing Attack before it could act. Despite getting a lucky Hypnosis, Poliwrath didn't fare all that much better. I won the Storm Badge, then got HM 2 from Chuck's wife, thanked her kindly for it and then Surfed back to Olivine, since I don't have a Flying-type yet.
In Jasmine's Gym, it was Steelix's turn to shine. To my complete surprise, Jasmine's Magnemite proved hardy enough to survive a single Mud-Slap. It came pretty darn close to fainting, but I'd gotten used to them being knocked out cold by one. Magnemite used its one shot at me to confuse Steelix with Supersonic before going down to a second Mud-Slap. Fortunately, however, Steelix made it through all four or five turns of confusion without hurting itself once.
Steelix vs. Steelix proved to be an interesting battle. Jasmine's Steelix knew Iron Tail and had uncanny accuracy with it; my Onix would have been toast in two rounds at most if I hadn't evolved it first. Oddly enough, my Mud-Slap (low-power but super-effective) and Jasmine's Iron Tail (high-power but ineffective) wound up doing about the same piddling amount of damage. I won simply because my attack also decreased accuracy, though Jasmine pulled out a Hyper Potion the first time her Steelix got into the red and I had to respond with an Ether to keep going. (I very rarely if ever bother using PP restore items.) I'm looking forward to picking up that Earthquake TM...
After scoring the MineralBadge, I headed toward Mahogany (I never did battle Pryce.) Along the way, I cleared out the ground floor of Mt. Mortar for the heck of it. I arrived in Mahogany, challenged one of the Gym trainers, and sent out...Magneton...who has...well, look below for yourself. Don't get me wrong, I beat the trainer with little fuss, but since Maggie's going to be the star of this show, I think I want more muscle in there. I don't like Zap Cannon's accuracy, so I think I'm going to trade Magneton back to RBY and give it a TM 24.

    Team:
    Magneton L32
    Thundershock, Sonicboom, Flash, Thunderwave

    Steelix L32
    Rock Throw, Headbutt, Screech, Mud-Slap

    Forretress L32
Headbutt, Take Down, Rapid Spin, Protect

    Scizor L33
Wing Attack, Metal Claw, Quick Attack, Fury Cutter

    L18FIRE and RAINL21
FIRE: Dig, Cut, Rock Smash, Strength
    RAIN: Surf, Thief, Whirlpool, Doubleslap

Next: Thunderbolt FTW! With Piloswine-smashing guest appearance by Scizor, no doubt.

The tradeback worked fine. I've got a game going on Blue Version where I used the Mew Glitch in Cerulean City and am now using the Mew as my only battler, so I still had Lt. Surge's TM 24 sitting around. Now equipped with Thunderbolt, Magneton polished off Pryce's Gym with occasional help from Scizor's Metal Claw to bash Ice/Ground-types. (I love how the guy who gives you tips recommends you use Fire in a Gym where almost all of your opponents are either Water/Ice or pure Water. Dimwit.)
After exiting Pryce's Gym, I got the call from Prof. Elm telling me about Team Rocket On The Air, so I headed back to Goldenrod and completed the three-ring circus of Radio Tower, Underground Warehouse, Radio Tower again. My nemesis, fire, caught me a couple times, first from a warehouse Burglar with a Magmar and then from the TR Executive's Houndoom, but I persevered and scored the Silver Wing from the Director.
With that done, I biked back to Mahogany and then traversed Route 44. I only battled about half of the trainers because I was eager to reach Route 45. When I saved and quit I had just entered the Ice Path, the only obstacle left between me and that which I have wanted for so long...with a Skarmory on my belt, I'll finally be able to use Fly.

Ice Path was a cakewalk and I've got a lot to cover, so suffice to say: veni, vidi, vici.
It took most of a day to find a Skarmory in Route 45, and I used up quite a few balls on it, but I finally caught it. I immediately taught it Fly ( ), and chose to replace Forretress with it because, let's be honest, when you're ingame, sweeper movesets are the way to go, and Forretress does not impress in that department.
Since Skarmory was ten levels below the rest of my party, I promptly took it on a tour of Johto, visiting out-of-the-way dungeons for training, such as the hidden depths of Slowpoke Well, Union Cave and Dark Cave, not to mention the length of Route 45 and the three trainers on Route 46. I also grabbed the Soft Sand from the three water-type trainers hiding on Route 34; Steelix will want that later.
When Skarmory was on par with the other team members, I challenged Clair's Gym. My first battle with a Dragon-type was not fun; Dratini opened with Thunder Wave and then used Dragon Rage non-stop. Since Skarmory had fewer than 120 HP and my strongest attack was two-turn and thus highly susceptible to paralysis, I used up a few Lemonades in that battle.
I cleared all of the lesser trainers and made my way to Clair. The battle with her was fun. All three of her Dragonair dropped rather quickly, and then her Surfing Kingdra came out and KOed two of my pokémon and seriously injured a third before going down. In the end, Skarmory was voted MVP (Most Valuable Pokémon) in that battle even though it fainted, because it was able to hit Kingdra with six Sand-Attacks before doing so.
I then had to complete the "dragon user challenge", which in Gold and Silver requires a) a pokémon who can use Surf, which I couldn't possibly have reached Blackthorn without anyway; b) a pokémon who can use Whirlpool, which I obviously had the HM and the badge for, though I suppose it's concievable that someone might have forgotten to teach the move before now; and c) battlers capable of fending off wild pokémon who are an absolute joke compared to the minor trainers in Clair's Gym. So, yeah, no problem. And this convinced Clair to respect me!? /sigh/ Sometimes I really do wish I were playing Crystal.
I flew down to New Bark, picked up ZOMGTEHMASTERBALL!!!11one! and Surfed east, climbing over Tohjo Falls. I learned something strange from the woman who lives there and gives you a Sandstorm TM if your pokémon are happy: my pokémon are really rather 'meh' about their trainer. My team is usually ectastic about me by this point...I have no idea what I've done differently. I mean, I guess I can understand Skarmory...and I suppose since I traded Scizor and Steelix...but what's Magneton's problem? Oh well...my pokémon don't love me...ç_ç
I tackled all of the trainers on Routes 27 and 26, and then picked my way through the much-deflated Victory Road. One of the item balls in there held my beloved prize...the TM 26...I promptly taught Steelix Earthquake and proceeded to rip apart the myriad Graveler that had been annoying Steelix. After one more battle with Kyle ("I'm beginning to understand what that dragon master said to me..." 'bout flippin' time...) I was at the League HQ...Indigo Plateau.
I dug into my PC and gave Steelix the Soft Sand and a PP Up for Earthquake, then saved. I knew I would probably need more training before being able to defeat the Elite, but I decided, what the heck, might as well see what my weak points are, and I challenged them immediately after saving.___________________________________________ ______

...okay, so apparently my weak point is fire. Like I didn't already know that. Thus, I have set a task for my training: concentrating on Special Stat Exp., I will train until everyone reaches level 50 before attempting the Elite Four again. Steelix only needs to survive one Flamethrower; I am confident I can axe Houndoom with one Earthquake. If I'm wrong, or if I beat Houndoom only to fall to Lance's Charizard...well, then I'll train some more.

    Team:
    Magneton L40
    Thunderbolt, Swift, Flash, Thunder Wave

    Scizor L40
Metal Claw, Wing Attack, Slash, Fury Cutter

    Skarmory L40
    Fly, Swift, Peck, Sand-Attack

    Steelix L41
    Headbutt, Earthquake, Screech, Rock Throw

    L18FIRE and RAINL21
FIRE: Dig, Cut, Rock Smash, Strength
    RAIN: Surf, Thief, Whirlpool, Waterfall

Next: Now let's see...where's a good high-level source of Special Stat Exp...

[i]@ poryhedron= well, you knew fire would be a pain to overcome, but special stat raising is definately going to be what gets you over the hump. keep pluggin away and you'll get it done.
@meloveghosts= haha stay strong my friend, for soon your fears will be pushed to the side and you will be able to make great advances... aka keeping working at it man, don't fear failure lol
@mega horny= don't worry man, there's no set limit in which you have to post in. take your time, and post when you can.

I was wondering maybe you could put Rain Dance on one of your Pokemon, then you would be protected from Fire attacks, possible Magneton, and use this set Thunder, Rain Dance, Thunder Wave, HP: Water. That is an older set, so I"m not sure it would work. Have you checked your Hidden Powers on your Steel pokemon and see what they have? Maybe Hidden Power Rock on Scizor

Older set? Older than what? We're talking strictly ingame in Silver Version here. Well, Magneton's my Flasher. Neither of my HMers can learn Flash. So Magneton's set has to include Flash. Maybe Thunder | Rain Dance | Flash | Hidden Power...but the ability to paralyze foes at will has proven helpful more than once. And I don't fancy only having one attack, especially since it's completely useless against certain enemies. Well, Goldenrod Department Store does sell TM 08s, so maybe I could get new HMers that include Flash...I won't need Thief too terribly often anyway. The only place I can see using it now is against the wild Snorlax, and I don't need to use any HMs to reach Snorlax from Vermilion City. I won't have access to Dig either, but I could just buy a ton of Escape Ropes...Yeah, Paras and Psyduck can cover it all, and throw in Sweet Scent to boot.

No, I haven't, but let's do that now for the heck of it.

    Steelix: Grass
Scizor: Steel (Well now isn't THAT useful.)
    Magneton: Fighting
    Skarmory: Dark

Alas, no HP Water for my Magneton. Still, having Rain Dance does seem like an interesting option...I'll try it if I finish my training and end up losing again.

I called in sick today and did quite some playing.

    Update:

    Character: Maggie
    Type: Normal
Reason: Cuz y wanna defeet Amaruu!1!1 (seriously I want to do Normal aswell and get through it with different pokemon)
    Progress:

Yeah so I went over to Icepath. Defeated random pokemon with Greed and proceeded until I reached Blackthorn city. I deleted Surf from my Miltank, I'll need the space for better moves and flew back to Goldenrod, ready for some Team-Rocket-bashing-Greed-training-all-in-once.

I quickly cleared out the Radio Tower, getting Greed (and even Lust) A LOT of expierence. Bloody selfdestruct Koffing and Weezing got on my nerves and kept KO'ing Greed. Argh, but I managed to get trough them and sweep the final Executive with EQ x3.

After that was over I returned to Blackthorn, ready to for some ass-whipping, but before that I decided to clear out the routes below Blackthorn. All my pokemon were l.40 now except for Lust who needs ALOT of expierence before gaining a level. I wrapped it up and proceeded to the Blackthorn Gym, defeating the Gym trainers with my Pink cow. Having only Stomp and Headbutt on your arsenal really takes your patience out.

    Then finally Clair:

    CLAIR sends out DRAGONAIR! (1)
    MATT sends out Lust!
    LUST uses Headbutt!
DRAGONAIR uses Thunderwave! (has about 50% Health left)
    LUST recovers with PRZCUREBERRY!
    LUST uses Headbutt!
    DRAGONAIR fainted!
    CLAIR sends out DRAGONAIR! (2)
    LUST uses Headbutt!
DRAGONAIR uses Thunderwave! (has about 50% Health left)
    MATT uses Paralyze Heal!
    LUST uses Headbutt!
    DRAGONAIR fainted!
    CLAIR sends out DRAGONAIR! (3)
DRAGONAIR uses Thunderwave! (has about 50% Health left)
    LUST uses Headbutt!
    MATT uses Full heal!
    DRAGONAIR uses ICEBEAM!
    LUST was frozen solid
    MATT uses Full Heal!
    DRAGONAIR uses ICEBEAM!
LUST uses Headbutt! (has about 20% Health left)
    DRAGONAIR fainted!
    CLAIR sends out KINGDRA!
    KINGDRA uses SURF!
    LUST fainted!
MATT sends out Envy! (Female Clefairy)
    KINGDRA uses SMOKESCREEN! Attack missed!
    Envy uses THUNDERWAVE!
    KINGDRA uses SURF!
Envy uses THUNDERBOLT! (has about 55% Health left)
    KINGDRA uses SMOKESCREEN!
Envy uses THUNDERBOLT! (has about 25% Health left)
    KINGDRA uses HYPERBEAM!
    Envy fainted!
    MATT send out Greed!
    Greed uses Body Slam!
    KINGDRA fainted!

    Matt is the winner!

So that was a piece of cake. I had to take the Crystal Dragon-user test (take that Poryhedron). I defeated the few trainers and answered a few questions. I passed, received the Risingbadge, TM24 and my ticket to the Indigo League, but first I had to return to New Bark Town and receive
