A question, in a battle I'm reffing I get the feeling it's going to end in a tie...how does the winning system work?

I've reffed a battle that ended resulted in a tie before; I just had both participants win the same amount of points (like, in a two-on-two, both participants received three points each, rather than two and four respectively). The referee, in this case - you, receives the same amount of points, however.

Not sure how to deal with this for one-on-ones or three-on-threes, however, as the total number of points earned would be uneven. I'd probably give the benefit of the doubt though.

Round 6… begin!

The hustle and bustle of the circus seems to be beginning to settle down as paying patrons make their way to their seats (finally!) and watch the show. In the center ring, April and the oddly-named Apron bark their commands to their Pokemon, the even more oddly-named Girafarig Rofflecopter and Spinda Lollerskates. Despite being afflicted with confusion and a headache, respectively, the two Pokemon manage to understand their commands and jump straight into battle.
Rofflecopter closes his eyes and focuses his thoughts as hard as he can. However, his mind begins to wander, and in a lapse of focus brought about by severe confusion, Rofflecopter’s tail bites him in the torso, breaking the Girafarig out of his trance with nothing accomplished. Meanwhile, Lollerskates tries desperately to perform a crash work out session, but his muscles refuse to Bulk Up as quickly as she wants them to – try as she might, the Spinda is utterly incapable of performing the move.
Lollerskates scowls and decides to drop the attack. Instead, she focuses her perpetually-swirly eyes on the Girafarig standing near her. She adopts a three-point stance and charges Rofflecopter, but the latter has a surprise: mere moments before Lollerskates strikes, Rofflecopter opens his mouth wide and blasts forth a powerful bolt of lightning. It lands hard, striking the unfortunate Spinda and repelling her back.
Rofflecopter snickers and holds his ground. To the untrained eye, it would seem that he is merely standing still, but he takes the few precious moments of his foe’s recovery to coat himself in a near-invisible, reflective film. Lollerskates takes no notice and angrily picks herself up. She stares deep into Rofflecopter’s eyes as her spiral patterns begin to spin. A multitude of faint psychic waves travel between the two Pokemon, but unfortunately for Lollerskates, the Hypnosis bounces right off of Rofflecopter’s Magic Coat. The waves sink into her head and send her off to dream land.
As the round ends, Rofflecopter, being a Psychic type, can sense a psychic pressure descending upon the arena… not the he wasn’t expecting it. Additionally, the Girafarig sighs as he feels some of the confusion begin to wear off.

According to the Absence Tower, Tsuki has been swamped with exams since the start April, but she hasn't been online since the end of April. Looks like you have a sub-ref now Silencer, but Dark Sage and myself would like to see this battle come to an end eventually, as it's also normally reffed by Tsuki. So a sub of some kind would be appriciated.

TheBlueAvenger - That was a god reffing, but I don't think it was enough to have you raise a rank. Please try again in the future though.

And on that note, I'll work up a new mock-reffing. That one was a bit bizarre, and it's the middle of May now.. something summery I think.

Round One: Begin!

The sun is shining brightly and it’s a perfect day for a barbecue! The moderators of TPM Forums’ ASB have invited all of their animé-style battling friends and their Pokémon to come and share some hot dogs, hot wings, iced sodas and a dip in a spacious swimming pool. Well, almost all of their friends and Pokémon…

Just as RaZoR LeAf is handing a nicely chilled Coke to The Missing Link and right before TheBlueAvenger takes a big bite of some spare ribs, two trainers break down the backyard gate and come charging into the middle of the crowd. Amid screams of shock and anger Pa T. Pooper leaps on top of a picnic table, laughing maniacally about how he hates seeing people having fun at parties and how he can’t wait to make them all miserable for no good reason. Meanwhile, a very disgruntled Univi Ted shoves darktyranitar and Wolfsong out of the way, snarling things about not being invited to the BBQ bash and how wonderful it’ll feel to get sweet revenge on all of the ASBers. Despite the fact that both Mr. Pooper and Mr. Ted are mostly upset with the TPM ASB crew, they decide to take their wrath out on one another and toss two Pokeballs into the air. Two shiny Pokémon are released: a golden female Azumarill named Goldie on Pa T.’s side and a yellowish Sudowoodo on Univi Ted’s side, christened Clump. Both Pokémon chuckle evilly with their respective thoughts of troublemaking and vengeance as their human partners shout out their battle orders.

Goldie inflates her jellybean-like body with a deep breath and lets out a soft, plaintive wail; ASBers everywhere scramble to call their Pokémon back into their Pokeballs to prevent them from feeling the effects of the aqua rabbit’s Perish Song. Clump, obviously not a fan of Goldie’s singing, draws her fist back as it begins to crackle with electrical energy. The Sudowoodo dashes forward and slams her fist into Goldie’s stomach, sending the electrocuted Azumarill flying backwards into the pool. While the attack and its resultant flying rabbit are quite effective in scaring anyone who was left out of the water, the Thunderpunch comes too late to stop Goldie’s haunting song from taking effect. A strange feeling seems to whisper in the ears of both battlers, telling them in a quiet, beautiful voice that it would be so lovely to just give up and relax in just a short while…

Angry, Goldie climbs out of the pool, twitching slightly due to the electricity still coursing around her body. Despite the little bit of numbness she feels, the golden hare is still perfectly capable of clasping her front paws together and chanting a strange, ancient prayer. She shuffles slowly and rhythmically back and forth, wishing and hoping with all her evil might that some clouds might gather and pour rain over all of the ASBers’ fun. The Rain Dance proves somewhat successful—clouds do appear and a light downpour begins, but the sun is still shining brightly through a rather large gap in the clouds. Goldie is so distracted by this bittersweet success that she fails to notice Clump sliding across the patio and slamming into her with a Low Kick until she’s already feeling the pain. Again Goldie skids backwards, this time knocking over Chris 2.0’s lovingly tended grill and spilling all of the now-soggy barbecue goodness on the ground for the ants to get to. Chris 2.0 curses and Goldie, despite her pain, smiles at how angry she’s made him.

As Clump picks herself up from her slide and prepares to come at Goldie again, the Azumarill decides that she’s sick and tired of taking hit after hit and is ready to start swinging back. Drawing on the reserves of water stored within her round body, Goldie lets fly with a Water Pulse, a blast of water infused with a bit of high-frequency, confusing sound. Since Clump is charging straight at Goldie the attack hits dead-on and she feels intense pain on contact with the icy water; luckily, the Sudowoodo lets out such a loud shriek of agony that it drowns out the confusing side effects of the assault. Wincing at the combined wetness of the falling rain and the painful Water Pulse a furious Clump stands up and charges at her foe again, plowing through tables and partygoers before finally connecting with a powerful Mega Kick… or, almost connecting. Having gone right through so many obstacles has reduced much of the Rock-type’s momentum and caused her to deliver nothing more than a stinging but glancing blow. Both she and Goldie slide across the slippery, slimy lawn, both Pokémon still glaring maliciously at all and sundry.

The first exchange of attacks ends with Pa T. Pooper and Univi Ted oblivious to their Pokémon’s pain; more important to them is how much fun they’re having showing off and making the ASBers pay for daring to have fun without them. All the same, they think hard about what next to tell their battlers. Goldie is feeling quite a bit of pain although the light rainfall does a little bit to soothe her injuries; Clump, on the other hand, is not enjoying the dampness at all. Both Pokémon sway a little bit before fighting off an inexplicable, temporary urge to just lay down and drift off into unconsciousness, but neither is sure how much longer she will be able to resist the temptation…

Wow, that was great. I think perhaps the pokemon lost a little too much health. Sudowoodo being hit by a Water Pulse, albeit boosted, shouldn't do 28% in one turn. Approved, but look into your damage calculations a little.

Round 1… go!

Most of the party guests have long since cleared out; the firsts guests running away screaming when the two mysterious men hopped the fence at one side of the yard and sent out their Pokemon. Not to wreak havoc, mind you, but to… have a battle with each other? Only a few people remain aside from the combatants – one of them, some drunken guy in a blue suit, volunteered to ref, and in the absence of someone better, Pa and Uninvi agreed. The referee struggles to remain standing as the two Pokemon, an Azumarill and a Sudowoodo, both golden, take the field.
Goldie, the Azumarill, begins her move with some trepidation, although no hesitation – she knows that the move is deadly to herself as well as her foe. Nevertheless, she opens her mouth while Clump charges up an orb of electricity around her fist. Before the Sudowoodo can attack, Goldie sings a lilting, haunting melody; one that reverberates throughout the neighborhood, bringing all who hear it to tears… except Clump. (-5% EN, Goldie) Clump retains the electrical coating on her fist and charges at Goldie, slamming her in the gut and sending her sprawling backwards. (-10% HP, Goldie; -7% EN, Clump)
Goldie slowly picks herself up, wincing from the power of the electrical attack. She closes her eyes and begins a silent prayer. Meanwhile, Clump backs up, presumably in order to get some decent momentum going. She dashes back towards Goldie again just as the latter opens her eyes, but before the Azumarill can react, Clump falls to the ground and slides past Goldie not unlike a baseball player, neatly kicking out Goldie’s feet from under her. However, Goldie, not being a terribly heavy Pokemon, doesn’t take much damage from the attack. (-5% HP, Goldie; -4% EN, Clump) As if to sooth her, rain begins to pour from the heavens, despite the sky being cloud-free. (-6% EN, Goldie)
Goldie once again has to pick herself up off of the ground, and once again, she sees Clump backing up to be able to gain momentum. However, as Clump charges her this time, her feet glowing a brilliant white, Goldie spits up a pressurized stream of enigmatic glowing water. Clump jumps in the air in order to make her attack that much more powerful… and Goldie, making sharpshooters everywhere proud, directs the blast precisely, knocking the Sudowoodo back onto the ground. (-12% HP, Clump; -6% EN, Clump; -6% EN, Goldie)

I need some help on deciding how this battle should turn out. Double KO, but one pokemon was KO'd from an attack and the other afterwards by poison, not sure if it should be a tie or if the battle should have ended as soon as the first was KO'd, meaning the poison wouldn't have been taken into account.

Both trainers also withdrew pokemon in the first round, so I don't know if in the case of a tie that should be taken into account to determine a winner, or if its not a factor and a tie means a tie.

Sunny Day is permanently in effect; other weather effects can be in effect as well, but Sunny Day can't be negated.

The whole of TPM ASB has turned out for a barbecue! Chris2.0 is cooking the food, while RaZoR LeAf is serving drinks. It's taking place in a huge garden, with a 5 foot brick wall around three edges, and a building against the other. A pool lies at the far end, where various water types are cooling off with their trainers. There's a lot of people chatting and enjoying themselves. Who on earth thought about starting a battle here?

Everyone at the barbecue is laughing and having a great time - darktyranitar and Elec Man EXE are wrestling in the pool, Wolfsong, River, and Crystal Tears are lounging in lawn chairs, chatting away, Dark Sage and Master of Paradox are showing off their Pokemon (Though no one is paying much attention. Too bad, guys!), and more - everyone seems to have found their niche at the party, even Blademaster, who's chowing down on a pile of hamburgers, happy as a Clamperl.

Suddenly, two shadowy figures leap over the brick wall and dash to the center of the yard, causing a huge ruckus! Why, it's none other than Pa T. Pooper and Univi Ted! Those devious delinquents are always aiming to cause trouble, and they're all but furious that they weren't invited to the big cookout!

Pa and Ted hurl twin Pokeballs through the air, releasing their prized Pokemon. Pa's Pokeball releases a shiny yellow Azumarill named Goldie, while Ted's unleashes an olive-tinted Sudowoodo named... Clump. The two Pokemon grin evilly; Goldie spots Blademaster eating away and nastily sprays a Water Gun at his mountain of burgers, washing them away.

"If we can't be in the barbecue, you losers can't, either!" Pa proclaims, issuing his orders to Goldie.

"Yeah - let's crash this party!" Ted agrees, giving his orders to Clump.

Both Pokemon nod and face each other; Blademaster, fire in his eyes, steps up to referee.

"Begin!" he shouts.

Goldie slaps her hands together and begins to hum an eerily soothing melody; a strange energy begins to flow through the air...

But Clump isn't gonna have any of that! The tree-like Pokemon raises a fist, which quickly begins to charge static energy, until it is literally abuzz with electricity. Crying her name angrily, Clump charges at Goldie and socks her in the face, sending a jolt of energy through her and smashing her into a chair nearby. Fortrunately, the chair's occupant - Mega Horny - got out before he was bowled over be the flying Aquarabbit Pokemon...

Goldie rubs her head and sits up, a smirk on her face. Her Perish Song is working, and Clump knows it - the Sudowoodo looks like she's having difficulty focusing. In the meantime, Goldie gets up and begins dancing hula-style... Dark clouds begin to gather overhead...

Clump, realizing Goldie's intention, charges and delivers a sweeping kick at the Azumarill's feet, causing the golden Pokemon to stumble over and hit the back of her head on the ground. The poor Azumarill lays in a daze as stars spin around her head...

Clump grins as she watches Goldie laying stunned on the ground, but her satisfaction quickly vanishes when a clap of thunder sounds overhead. Clump shudders as icy drops of rain cascade down onto her and the dry half of the yard - she has nowhere to run to escape the water. Fortunately for the swimmers in the pool, most of the pool is still bathed in sunlight.

Meanwhile, Chris 2.0 frowns angrily as rain cascades down onto his grill. Thinking quickly, the clever Moderator releases his Claydol, who hovers over and just behind the barbecue, using its Psychic powers to shield the charcoal from the rain. Chris 2.0 smiles and continues cooking.

Halfway across the yard, Goldie sits up and rubs her head. She's taken two hits alraedy; she wants to do the damage now! Goldie inhales deeply, and then launches from her mouth a jet of high-pressure water and a high-pitched shriek, both of which slam into Clump, who howls in pain and smashes into a table, knocking it over. Ace64 and Weasel Overlord cry out and run, narrowly avoiding being crushed by the table.

Clump groans softly and sits up, holding her head. The blow she's sustained and the volume of the water has left her Confused. She attempts to get up and deliver a Mega Kick to Goldie, but the world around Clump is spinning; she stumbles and falls into a sitting position, wishing that the ringing in her ears and the throbbing in her head will go away soon...

Here we are, at a wonderful barbecue. Everyone is enjoying the sun, the smell of burgers and dogs is in the air. But just walking out of the house are a couple of suspicous-looking trainers. They take one look at the party and, ne'erdowells that they are, decide to ruin it. Mr. Pooper pulls out a pokeball, quickly tossing it to the ground. It opens, flashing to reveal a gold Azumarill. She perks up her ears, looking around the area. The other trainer, apparently uninvited to this party, quickly hurls his own pokeball into the fray. This time, a green tree reveals itself, named Clump. With a cry it looks toward Goldie, used to being the only unique pokemon in the area. The trainers quickly initiate their plans of mischief, shouting their commands to the respective pokemon as they nod in reply.

Without hesitation, Goldie starts singing an eerie and mysterious song. The entire barbecue looks toward her, wondering whats going on. Its quite obvious what is happening as Clump runs up to the singing rabbit. She pulls back one of his branches, channeling an electrical current through it. She shouts as she swings it forward, bringing it to bear on Goldie's side. She halts her song and shrieks as the short burst of electricity courses through her body. But its too late to stop the effect of the song, and unbenownst to Sudowoodo, she is affected, like a time bomb inside of her body. The 2 glare at one another briefly before they execute their next attacks.

Ready to completely ruin this little party, Goldie closes her eyes. She carefully concentrates, hoping to summon forth a few rain clouds. A faint blue aura surrounds her as a rumble of thunder is heard. The barbecue attendees look up to see a cover of clouds moving over the arena. A few head for cover, while others pull out umbrella's in preperation. Its not long before a light rain starts falling from the newly formed cloud cover. Clump doesn't look happy at all, though the water type grins. Sudowoodo groans, particularly vulnerable to even a bit of rain. Trying to ignore the discomfort, the false tree whips her foot forward, performing a quick kick to Azumarill's shin. She lets out a cry as she bends over to rub the bruise from the hard rock type's kick. Chris 2.0, always authoratative and assuming the water type to be the cause of the rainfall ruining his barbecue, picks up a pair of tongs from the grill. He tosses it at Goldie, smacking her in the head and letting her know that he doesn't approve of this.

Annoyed at Clump for smashing her leg, Goldie decides its time to get some revenge. She takes a deep breath, opening her mouth and tapping into her internal water resevoir. The aqua rabbit builds up an orb of water inside of her mouth, well aware of the tree's inherrent weakness. Not giving Sudowoodo much time to avoid, she quickly fires the aquatic sphere at Clump. The rock type lets out a loud cry as she is drenched by the water and pushed back a bit. She groans as she shakes her body, trying to dry herself off as much as possible. Not one to take a powerful attack lying down, Clump runs a few steps back to the golden water type. Pulling back her foot, she focuses energy into it to amplify her attack. Her foot glows white as she brings it forward, crashing into Goldie's stomach and sending her tumbling backwards. The shiny Azumarill slowly stands up, holding her belly.

By now, a few of the party goers are watching the battle unfurl. The rest are trying their best to ignore the sounds of the battle and enjoy the party as best they can under the rain. The 2 shiny combatants glare at one another, already bearing battle scars but determined.

It was a beautiful day. The sun was shinning, the pidgey were singing and all of the TPM ASB league was at a BBQ, or that's what we thought. Everyone was enjoying their day away from those battles they always held. All pokémon were friends this day. All trainers were on the same side. Everything was perfect. Boring, right? Right.

That may be what fate thought when it made Pa T. Pooper and Univi Ted burst into the party. After climbing the wall, they looked around and sent their most amazing pokémon: Goldie, an Azumarril and Clump, a Sudowoodo respectively. Some of the other trainers present were surprised after noticing both pokémon were shiny.

I was about to drink the piña colada RaZoR LeAf gave when both pokémon jumped backwards and adopted a battle pose. Both intruders shout out their orders and both pokémon smiled. They were going to battle. Everyone stopped doing what they were doing, trying to be prepared for anything that might happen. TML, Andrew and ElecMan_EXE withdrew their pokéballs ready to defend themselves and their friends. Chris, however, stopped them extending his right hand. He realized before than anyone that those renegade trainers were going to battle each other instead of causing direct havoc to the gathering. Why? I guess we will never really know.

Goldie started. Her little black eyes turned red and she started singing a kind of elegy. "God, no...", Chris muttered, "everyone! cover your pokémon ears! It's perish song!". Shocked, all the trainers that could did as told. However, most of them didn't manage to react in time to protect their beloved minions. This was going to be trouble: if the pokémon faint then the party would be ruined, and I hadn't eat one sinlge hot dog. Almost every monster was called back into it's ball.

Clump heard the song when she was half way from Goldie. She withdrew her right arm and focused deepley while running. Sparks started jumping from it. Sparks, sparks and sparks. When she was centimeters away from Goldie's face, she punched her with one of the most fierce thunder punch I've ever seen. It was too late though, the bruised Azurril smiled while she was falling because she knew her attack was going to make every single pokémon that heard it faint. She could only think about how proud her trainer was.

Clump's punch was a beautiful example of Sudowoodo power. Before letting her opponent even touch the ground, she bent in order to grab her head, stand her up and hit her stomach with a low kick. The hit was so strong it made Goldie release a little stream of water from her mouth. This looked bad, really bad. However, Goldie didn't stop smiling. She hit the ground this time and stayed there for no more than two seconds. The battle wasn't over, and she couldn't afford to loose.

Clump started panting silently. She could see her opponent standing a few meters away from her and whispering a sort of tune. Goldie was looking at the ground. Was she? "Sudo", she thought, "sudowoodo...". Suddenly, she opened her eyes as in great shock. She realized what the Azumarril was doing: she was summoning the clouds and moved her tail in an almost unnoticeable rythm. Clump started running again towards her when she felt a drop of water in her face. Goldie smiled: her attack was succesful again.

Rain. Lot's of rain. The party was ruined and not one single hot dog. Everyone started covering their food and drinks. Goldie smiled malevontly and raised her head again only instants before the mighty two leg kick was about to hit her. This kick, provided by the rock pokémon, was evaded only by a few inches because of the water pokemon's fast reflex.

Clump hit the ground. Pride hurt, she stood up slowly. She used her left arm to clean the dirt covering her mouth. When she opened her eyes again she saw and felt a water ball hitting her stomach. Pain. Heavy, intense pain. She felt how some sort of waves from the ball messed her body up. What was this that she felt? Dizziness. Unbalance. Chaos. No. She had to stay focused. She couldn't lose. Her trainer was disrespected and it would be a shame for her as a pokémon to lose. It wasn't over yet. She looked at Goldie. Same thoughts exactly.
