Up+A when the ball opens has worked for me ever since RBY...

In the Safari Zone, you have two choices: launch Balls until you get it (Works most of the time, and gives you enough tries if lucky.). The other option is throw Rocks, hope for it to stay, and then throw Balls. It's almost impossible to pull it off with the likes of Chansey and Tauros, but it's a sure catch. 2 Rocks dramatically heighten your chance, and 3 is a totally ensured catch (Most of the time...).

Unless it has changed in FR/LG (Unlikely.), Bait just makes the Pokémon less likely to flee, but makes'em WAY harder to catch... I stay away from Bait every time.

Those tricks did work on Pokemon RBY but I'm not sure about newer games. How do I know? I searched the Official Nintendo Website and they put that down as a trick for Pokemon RBY. I've used it on all my Pokemon games and it does make the Pokemon hold in the Pokeball better for myself when I try this little trick.

Ok, now with shineys (stop groaning) when you pick your poke from oak, do you know if the pic of the poke (When you press A on the ball) show up as shiney? Or do you need to check it in the stat screen?

Since in RuSa you won't know until you release it in battle, I'd assume you'd have to check the stat screen

A couple of things: I recently caught the 3 pokes in the Safari Zone that I was lookin for. Tauros, Kangaskhan and Chansey. I used Up+B on all of them, and they're all now in my PC. (I know that they are falsse rumors, but as Poryhedron said, "You never know when that magical feather button combo could just make the extra difference."

Also, about the shiny starter question. I recently had a run-in with a shiny Charmander. No, I don't have it now. It was on a stupid Wal-Mart GBA and the manager wouldn't let me purchase it. (If you want the whole story on that go to my question and comment about FRLG thread) BUT What is important is that I didn't see it when I saw the "preview" of it, but rather at the stat screen, and then at the battle. So you don't know until you've chosen and nicknamed it.

That really works ... but I couldn't find Tauros, Kangaskhan or Chansey. o0; (I caught everything else though)

I just figured that you can never get Ru/Sa pokémon in this FR/LG game...
At the time when I just got my Ruby plate, I tried to breed Wobbuffet, but I ended up a Wobbuffet.
Then I got a Sapphire plate. Then I read somewhere that there must be a mistake ... so I tried to breed Wobbuffet again, and ended up in a Wobbuffet. >_<

    So weird eh... no Ru/Sa pokémon, and you can trade it over from Ruby/Sapphire. o0;

Wobbufett must be holding Lax Incense to get a Wynaut egg.
Similarly Marill/Azumarill must be holding Sea Inscense for an Azurill egg.

Without holding the item you'll just end up with Wobbufett/Marill eggs

Since this is the Official Pokemon FR/LG Thread shouldn't someone write an FAQ for it helping new people to Pokemon FR/LG? I'll be getting Pokemon LG in about a week from now after the weekend it's released into the UK and I know I might get stuck somewhere. The FAQ could include where to get the Ruby and Sapphire Plates, Union Room guide, the in game trades, and other useful information that would help any new person to the game. I know most of this stuff and it can be found on other sites but someone could just write a short FAQ to keep less people asking questions everywhere. Just an idea.

That's a good idea... but everything is quite straightforward early in the game... I could try to write a FAQ as I advance through the game, at least in spots I found difficult or way different from RBY... it's great almost everything is there *tears run down his face* remembering old dialogs, and stuff...

Just a small question, and I don't wanna post a new topic for this... >_>

What are heart scales anyway? It says they are rare, but I went to a store to sell them, but its selling price is only 50 pokémoney. (xD) I tried looking up gamefaqs, but couldn't find anything on it. :x

They can be found on seven island on the sand near the unown chambers.

Wild Luvdisc nearly always carry them on Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire.

I just got Pokemon FR and Pokemon LG today but I need to give Pokemon FR to my friend tomorrow. I'm training my Squirtle and Pikachu before I battle Gary again. I feel like I've played this game before because I have but there's so much more in it and I want to keep playing.

As far as I know Heart Scales have no use on FRLG. On RuSa they can be exchanged to teach a move that a pokémon could've learned by level but didnt, at the move tutors house in fallabor town

Speak to the guy who's repearing the R/S Machine then go to Moltres Montain, on half way to the montain you'll see on the left two Team Rocket Members, beat them, find the Ruby Plate and bring it to the guy, he'll give you another ticket for the Islands 1 - 7.

To get into Mewtwos Cave, find the two Plates.

Does anybody have an idea on how to get through the Rocket Warehouse on Five(Chrono) Island? It's becoming a pain for me.

It's difficult to explain but theres a clear path in the middle that curves round to the admins, you should be able to see it.

Also, on a random side note, I'm currently *patiently* catching all the unown in Tanoby Ruins. I've got 20, and when I was flicking through them in my team, I noticed that ? has a slightly different cry to the others. I'm not sure about ! though, haven't caught it yet.

EDIT: Seems I was mistaken, I got all 28 Unown and all of their cries are the same.
In regards to Rocket Warehouse, I went back to explain a route for you Take the first arrow on the left, then you'll see two arrows going up, take the left one, defeat the grunt with 2 houndours and reach the two down arrows, take the one on the left. Go up, defeat the grunt and they'll be be three left pointed arrows, take the middle one. Follow the path without touching any arrows and obtain TM36, go on a down arrow and follow the path to the two admins and the scientist, defeat them to reclaim the sapphire.

Ok. I've gotten to the part where you need to CUT in order to get into the cave thing with the Sapphire Plate in it. But, there's a guy standing in front of the door who won't leave. Is this a normal thing? Did I forgot to do something before coming there? I can't figure out what I need to do.

You must use Waterfall on Island 4. There's another Cave with Team Rocket Members.

This is why I don't like it when everyone goes online and reads ahead of time that you have to go to this place and do that to solve the puzzle. If you had just taken things as they'd come in the game, you would have finished the cave with the waterfall before you ever saw the Sapphire, and you wouldn't be clueless now.

I had already finished everything but the Rocket Base on 5 island. Completed everything I could find to complete. It's just that I had never actually noticed the cave that held the Rocket members and Lorelei. I'd probably gone by it twenty times, and I never saw the darn thing.

The way I done the Islands was to do it each Island in order from One Island to Seven Island. When I was on that Island I would search it for possible new battles and every location on it before moving onto the next Island. This helped me complete the Islands without having to look at Guides for help. I just need to get all the Unown Letters now for storage on Pokemon Sapphire and then all of them again for storage on Pokemon Leaf Green. I'm trying to get all 386 Pokemon separate on Pokemon Sapphire and Pokemon Leaf Green because I'm thinking of quitting Pokemon gaming after these.

God I am enjoying this game (Leaf Green). I only completed Yellow from the old generation (and that was on emulator) so the pokémon mix is totally different to anything I've really played with before, and I'm really looking forward to trading with my Sapphire. Forcing you to complete a post E4 quest to trade with R/S was an excellent decision by Game Freak IMHO - it really focuses your attention on the game you're playing, and the classic pokémon mix, not the post-story stuff.

The only thing I couldn't catch is Chansey... I only met it once :x

Does anyone know where do the legendary dog/cat roam? Are they on the islands or is it just Kanto? (btw, is it just one or is there all 3? cause I read another board and I think they are spreading false rumors away... :x)

What annoys me is when you encounter rare Pokemon in the Safari Zone and they stay there a few turns but every Safari Ball fails. My little sister managed to catch a Tauros and I couldn't even catch one of them beasts. At least my sister's starting a new game on Pokemon FR so I can have all her Legendary Pokemon for Pokemon Sapphire. I'm trying to get all 386 separately on Pokemon Sapphire and Pokemon LG. So far I have 383 Pokemon on Pokemon Sapphire just missing Mew, Lugia, and Deoxys but I have Lugia and Deoxys stored on Pokemon Box from using Island Codes. I have about 100 Pokemon on Pokemon LG so I'll be working on that more when I have some free time because I've sort of lost interest in playing video games.

I know how that feels... five chanseys, and no success... my brother borrows the game for one minute and catches a Timid Chansey with 31 SD and HP IVs... so go figure... and sadly, so far I haven't been able to get Tauros! I really want one

Throwing Rocks seems to be best. If you can get it angry on the first turn, it's much easier to catch. Check where you're searching also. There are two areas where the rares appear, in one they are 1% of the encounters, the other - 4%

    Pokémon -------- 1% -------- 4% -----
    Tauros -------- Area 2 ----- Area 3 ---
    Chansey ------ Center ----- Area 2 ----
    Kangashkan --- Area 3 ----- Area 1 ----
    Scyther [FR] -- Area 1 ----- Center ----
    Pinsir [LG] ---- Area 1 ----- Center ----
