You make your request to the Baltoy. The little top considers your request, nods and then shoots off into the desert. It's weird that he would help you out after just SolarBeaming you, but Baltoys are perhaps just weird like that. Either way, you'd better follow quickly!



It's hard to hurry after the little creature in this heat, but you do so. Just as you begin to wonder if the temple even exists, you see a small rocky outcrop in the distance. Huzzah! You take another step forward, but feel your foot sink into the sand. With another step, your other foot begins to sink as well and your entire body begins to get engulfed beneath the ground. Baltoy, speedin' along, doesn't seem to notice that you've been left behind. Lucky Levitating bastard. Within no time at all, you're up to your waist and still sinking fast. Crap.

You shout for Baltoy to assist you; however, try as you may, the Clay Doll Pokemon somehow doesn't hear you. What a frustratingly flaky little dreidel-type thing! First it attacks you, then it helps you... then it goes inconveniently deaf! Within seconds, you're up to your neck in sand. You wonder what kind of desert this could possibly be. The last thing you see before you slip under is the entrance to the temple, just a couple hundred yards away. So close.

Daylight slips away from you and everything goes black. Panic takes hold as you find yourself unable to breathe. Until...

Next thing you know, you're falling. You slip through the sand and tumble down to a hard, stone floor. It takes a second for your panic to dissipate as you realize that there's air down here. Woohoo! Examining your surroundings, you find yourself in a circular, torchlit room adjoined by no less than ten doorways, each leading off into darkness. So... you were sucked in through the ceiling, then? How exactly does that work?

"Welcome to the Maos Temple," a voice behind you says. "So it looks like you were also sucked in through the back door. Congrats."

You turn around and see a Lunatone hovering before you. By its side is a satchel of herbs, sickles and bottles. On its satchel are the words Nevshard Apothecary.

"The name's Artemis," it says.

Pikachu is the only Pokemon on the list that can't learn Explosion (aka. TM 47 in Gen I and TM 64 from Gen IV on). It was probably too hard right at the beginning but I think it was guessable with the numbers? Or perhaps I'm crazy.

There aren't really that many vehicles, so I'm thinking that's probably not it. What else could it be? And are those letters for letters' sake, or are they corresponding with something somehow?"

This time, when the wall slides away, a set of stairs leading deep into the temple is revealed. Celebrating your victory over those stupid, stupid riddles, you and your party clamber down the steps to see where they lead.

Eventually, you step out into a large, torchlit room. It seems pretty nondescript, with the exception of some yellowing grass poking up through cracks in the floor. How the hell does that survive down here?

Suddenly, you notice something in the corner: a Solrock with a Ghost-type Pokemon on either side of him. The Ghosts seem to be Taunting the Solrock cruelly while lashing out with random hits and blows.

You kick into action. Marauder starts by staring down the competition, Intimidating them effectively. As the spirits begin to cower, you then command your Pokemon to burn the Ghosties and then lock them into physical existence. Sableye and Spirtomb retaliate with... an unexpected counter-strategy. They begin winking and blowing kisses at your team members, causing Marauder and Zen to fall into a dreamlike stupor. They're Attracted... to Ghosts? Guys, no. There are laws against that sort of thing. Blech.

While your Pokemon begin composing love poems in their heads, Sableye smashes Zent in the gut as though smashing rocks. Spiritomb, meanwhile, constructs an invisible conduit through which he begins to even out his and Marauder's health levels. Oh, Curse Split. A devilish combo.

Your Pokemon become lucid again just long enough to target Sableye with a Steel Wing and a Focus Blast, doing significant damage. Sableye hits Zent with another Rock Smash while Spiritomb attempts to overcome Marauder with a Shadow Ball. Much to the malevolent spectre's confusion, the attack has no effect. Spiritomb furrows his brow. What is he, new?
