ASB Chat Thread - 2015 Edition. Now with improved posts!

Looks up from my research on worldbuilding and sees a tumbleweed roll by, since when did this place become a Ghost Town? In all honestly I think what the ASB really needs is a fresh start.

Perhaps we could lure the ghosts to battle by turning back on them. That works in Super Mario games.

Actually what I have in mind is to reconstruct the ASB into the The PokéMasters Anime Style Battle League, I think we can all agree that having the ASB be a heavy atmosphere no longer works, especially with how slow the battles are, the main problem I see is that when the moves in the ASB don't dish out the amount of damage that Game Freak programed them to.

Oh sure some of you may not agree with how the moves actually work in the games Verses how they work in the Animé, however I think if we could find a way to work out a compromise in that regards then Reffing will not only be simpler but also more fun in a way.

Like for example we could use the Animé description of the moves but with the game states of the move, now speaking of moves I personally think its stupid to have our Pokémon know all of its moves the moment we acquire it, to me it fells like part of the reword for being a Pokemon trainer is not there with all moves being there with no effort on my part, to me that seems a bit illogical.

Look when you think about it the Pokémon Animé clearly states that a Pokémon knows a maximum of four moves, Drake's Dragonite was not really a good example to go by as it only had ten moves to be a challenge to Ash, I mean if you saw last week's episode you saw that Ash's Pikachu got its but kicked by Viola's Surskit that only knew the moves Protect, Ice Beam, Signal Beam, and Sticky Web. my point is even with only knowing for moves Viola's Surskit was in my opinion shown to be far more powerful then Drake's Dragonite, mind you Dragonite was not at full strength however that was mostly do to how crappy the early episodes were, when compared to the newer episodes.

My point is this even thought we had a restart back in like 2003 it was more of a band aid that only dealt with the issues on the surface rather then dealing with the ASB's foundation and infrastructure, I'm not at all surprised by this since that the same exact thing some of you were biting my head off about in regards to the storyline of the Petoskey Tournament.

So I ask you what kind of word do you guys want the ASB to be a world that is a heavy atmosphere, or one that is more about adventure and the trainer's own skills?

Look I realize its hard to brake old habits, however I fell that the only really option we have is to hammer out a new restart one that focuses more on world building rather then one thats mealy just a quick fix, now I realize that many of you may outright reject this idea since many of you seem to hate my guts, However I fell that if we don't the ASB will die the same way the Gekitou did many years ago. I mean really those that fail to change their ways are doomed to failure.

Personally I don't delve that much on the whole learn set and how much power each move has, but I do know that more activity is needed, particularly by refs, so that this place can keep going. If more refs need to be added on then I would like to try out for such a position. I just don't have the best coding skills for posts is all.

Indeed. Greiger, if you really want to try it out, send me a note or something when you have your template, I'll look over it/improve it/suggest stuff. (:
However, I don't agree with Charles here. A fresh start, completely changing how the ASB works with Moves that Pokémon need to learn over time by fighting/training whatever you want would be just dragging the core concept even more out. And the last thing a "dying" ASB forum needs, is a more complicated and time-wasting system than before. But that's just my opinion, maybe there is a way to make it interesting. Though I don't believe there is, especially if you have a lot of Pokémon and need to keep track of all of them.

I don't want to inflate anyone's expectations. :3 My reffing mojo is pretty much nonexistent at this point. Maybe in a few months if activity picks up I will feel like banging out a reffing or two? I don't know? But right now I'm not really eager to get all wrapped up in that stuff again.
