#491: Darkrai

This rare and mysterious Pokémon skulks in the shadows and puts its enemies to sleep, then gives them nightmares until they awaken. While Darkrai has been said to hold pure motivations, its frightening appearance along with the extreme actions it takes to defend others and itself sometimes make it appear hostile to onlookers.

Shaymin, the Gratitude Pokemon. This legendary Pokemon is rather famous for its transformations like a certain other legendary, except this Pokemon needs a special flower called the Gracidea flower to transform from its Land Forme to its Sky Forme, and it cannot be in this form from 8:01 p.m. to 4:59 a.m, or when it is frozen.

Arceus

The God of the Pokemon world, Arceus is responsible for the creation of numerous Pokemon including (but perhaps not limited to) the Lake and Creation trios. By holding various elemental plates, Arceus and its signature move, Judgment, can become any type. Because of Arceus's divine status, a number of fans cited it as as one of the potential reasons why there would be no Generation V... because you simply can't one-up that shit. Clearly, Game Freak felt otherwise.

#494: Victini

This legendary Pokémon is said to be the embodiment of victory, which is odd since its strength is mediocre compared to other legendaries. Nonetheless, it is undeniably cute, with its ears forming a clear "V" sign. Some speculate that Victini imitates Ash Ketchum's trademark pose. Others say Ketchum is jealous of Victini. One of them is a poser.

Victini was distributed en masse after the release of Pokémon Black and Pokémon White. Almost everyone who pre-ordered one of these games owns a Victini, so anyone else could use the Global Trade Station and get one in exchange for a Zubat.

495: Snivy

Silly silly starter snake. I'm proud they didn't make another poison snake. This guy is pretty cool. Looks a bit odd with his deformed legs, but I bet he'll leaf lap the shiz outta you

496 SERVINE
When it comes to Pokemon with a three-stage evolution, in particular starters, I always find the second form the most difficult to describe. Servine isn't an exception. It's not as easily underestimated as its previous form, nor as beautiful as its following form. Of course, there are some notable differences. If you evolve your Snivy early, it doesn't learn Leaf Blade until Level 32 and Leaf Storm until Level 52. In the anime, Ash's rival Trip appears to have his Snivy evolved before episode "A Rival Battle for Club Champ!".

Serperior

The evolved form of Servine, Serperior is a major badass. The only starter Pokemon/evolution without legs, Serprior looks like some kind of haughty ruler in snake form. Competitively, Serperior might be entirely forgettable if it weren't for Contrary, which allows it to use Leaf Storm to boost its Special Attack rather than deplete it.

The only bacon that cooks itself... well, aside from it evolutions. Tepig is the fire-type starter players can pick in the Unova region. Picking this guy will put you up against Cress and his Panpour when you take on the Striaton City Gym. It could prove to be an uphill battle unless you pick up a Pansage in the Dreamyard.

Is it just me, or am I the only one getting tired of the Fire/Fighting Starter evolution chain? Aside from that thought, Pignite actually does look like a genuine wrestler or luchador judging by it's design.

500 EMBOAR
That's right, Emboar is the 500th Pokemon. As the Pokemon number half thousand kinda should be, it looks quite badass to me, although it's not rare among Fire starter final evolutions. Together with its Sinnoh counterpart Infernape it may remind some of the Chinese legend Xiyouji, 'Journey to the West', which has inspired another manga/anime as well, namely Dragonball.

Oshawott

The Unova Water-type starter, Oshawott is a little otter Pokemon with a scallop shell ("scalchop") that it uses in battle. Shortly after it was initially revealed, many fans theorized its snowball-like head meant that it would perhaps also be an Ice-type, which was later proven false. At level 17, it evolves into...

Dewott is NICE! I wrote about one fighting my Tangela in AC/CC, you all should go check it out [/ shameless plug]. I kinda wished its evolution was a bipedal swordsman, would give me a awesome water type for my Gym. There's still time to consider that....

Samurott, the Formidable Pokemon. Ash battled one of these Pokemon in the B/W movies, where surprisingly, a certain legendary fire type from Unova was able to help him by powering up his Tepig's Ember to help him win the battle.

504 PATRAT
I guess a Pokemon had to be done that resembles a chipmunk, cute little critters that live in Asia and perhaps more importantly here, North America. This Pokemon uses its cheek pouches to carry food, and that's why it's able to keep watch for days. Keep watch... that reminds me of the name of its second form...

It evolves from Patrat at level 20 and is part of a long line of normal-type woodland creatures that are found early in the game and aren't exactly phenomenal stat-wise. Perhaps this is intentional, as a way to encourage the player to try different Pokemon in their party throughout the game instead of just sticking with the Pokemon they catch as they start their journey.

Lillipup

Lillipup is an adorable little puppy Pokemon with what vaguely resembles untameable facial hair. It's apparently quite smart and courageous and can use its facial hair as a sort of radar to sense its surroundings. If you're looking for an early Normal-type Pokemon to catch in BW, Lillipup functions as a serviceable alternative to Patrat. Once it reaches level 16, it evolves into...

507 HERDIER
Herdier is a loyal Pokemon that always carries out its trainers orders. This Pokemon is also known of its fur that is soft inside but hard outside, protecting the Pokemon from damage in battles. Herdier's possible Abilities are Intimidate and Sand Rush, plus Hidden Ability Scrappy. In "Rematch at the Nacrene Gym!", Gym Leader Lenora's Herdier loses eventually to Ash's Tepig, who uses Flame Charge.

#508 Stoutland

In my Black run-through, Stoutland was probably THE most useful Pokémon in my party for pre- and post-Elite 4. This dog, when raised properly, can be a powerful mixed physical attacker and can tank some hits from it's high HP depending on it's nature. If anyone does a Nuzlocke challenge, make sure to try and catch a Lillipup with Vital Spirit and a decent nature ASAP and keep it alive because this dog is a literal life-safer.

Purrloin

A feline Pokemon, Purrloin is primarily purple with beige and pink markings. It's a Dark-type available early in the game along similar lines as Poochyena and Stunky and, according to its Pokedex entries, it uses cuteness to mask its devilish behaviour. And that about covers it.

510 LIEPARD
I stumble upon Liepards often when I level-up my Pokemon White. Liepards always use Torment on me so I can't use the same move twice in the row. This Pokemon's Pokedex entries tell that its fur and form attract many trainers and that Liepard appears unexpectedly from behind of its target.

#511 Pansage
A grass type, a member of a trio, the other members' types are Fire and Water, and it can have Overgrow as its ability. Nope, not a starter, but Pansage does have a connection to starters. Cilan of the Striaton Gym has a Pansage and will use it to beat down any trainer who picked Oshawott as their starter. Trainers who picked Tepig will be able to easily get a Pansage of their own, giving them an easier time against Cress at the Striaton Gym.

What the hell is up with the hair? It's a little ridiculous, that hairstyle. Uhh, its cool that you can find these monkeys in the wild (base from) you just gota search, But yeah, I first evolved him, and I was like ">/ This is not a boss look for you, gimme my cute monkey back."

Pansear

Pansear is by far the coolest of the monkey trio. It has a hilarious "yeah, that was me, my bad" expression on its face and it rocks the pompadour look like a champ. (Gotta agree with DL about Simisage's unfortunate coif.) When exposed to a Fire Stone, it evolves into...

Terrible name for this pokemon that evolves by Fire Stone from Pansear. These moneys are awful to be honest. They add nothing to the game and are basically Neverused pokemon. I am sick of money pokemon. Pansear is at least cute. This pokemon is just ugly. And what is with these monkeys being semi-starters as such o.o I don't like it.

Ok enough with the Monkey Pokemon... No Not Yet. Not yet. Not just yet. Bear with these just two more of them. One to go after this. Anyways Panpour brings its watery flavor to the game by being the water 'semi-starter'. Not under Cilan but Cress in the anime though. Who would confuse them since Cress has the blue hair.

This piggy bank Pokémon is sort of the quasi-mascot for all of generation 5 in general because of the significance it's evolution has to the Dream World.

518 MUSHARNA
A mist containing dreams of people and Pokemon emanates from Musharna's forehead. In the game, Fennel the scientist asks the player to fetch Dream Mist from Dreamyard. However, Team Plasma's also interested in it. It's a wild Musharna who scares off Team Plasma.

Pidove

Like Pidgey, Hoothoot, Taillow and Starly before it, Pidove is Gen V's token common bird. Personally, I sort of wish they hadn't chosen a greyscale colour palette two generations in a row, but that's just me. While the jaunty pose it strikes in its Sugimori artwork is endearing, there's not a lot that's particularly memorable about this little guy.

Ash's Pidove evolves into Tranquill in the episode "A Venipede Stampede!". In my opinion, Tranquill is a surprising evolution for Pidove in a good way. I mean, it looks new enough, the color palette is reversed, and its slender figure gives some glimpse of its final form that is...

One of those kinds of pokemon that has different forms depending on the gender of the pokemon. This pokemon looks pretty cool, but it really doesn't seem too different from any other generic final-evolution bird pokemon from any other generation.

Blitzle

Known as the "Electrified Pokemon," Blitzle is... an inverted zebra. Despite this little oddity and the fact that Blitzle's eyes make it look like it's strung out on methamphetamine, it's actually rather forgettable. So. Let's press on.

523 ZEBSTRIKA
By a coincidence, I ran into this Pokemon while playing my Pokemon White today, only 1 or 2 hours ago. I didn't even try to catch it, because I want to train and evolve my Blitzle and fill in my Pokedex that way. Zebstrika evolves from Blitzle already at level 27 but some moves like Trash are learned slower if you train your Zebstrika then.

#524: Roggenrola

Roggenrola has exceedingly strong Defense due in part to its rocky core, which was compressed until it was as hard as steel. Its Special Defense, on the other hand, is poor, as you might expect if you've ever seen a Geodude. Roggenrola cares a great deal about its environment, which is why it does not use moves like Trash. Unlike Zebstrika. Apparently.

525 BOLDORE
Roggenrola's second evolution looks quite obvious but you have to look at it a little closer to see the other eye added. And one leg behind, it seems. Faithful to its predecessor, also Boldore has a low Defence compared to its Special Defence. I myself somehow have always wanted to evolve one of these, but don't know why and when.

[Blademaster]

Gigalith. The Compressed Pokemon. The final evolutionary form of Roggenrola. Gigalith absorbs energy from the Sun and compresses it in the center of its body. Once Gigalith has absorbed all the energy it can, it unleashes a light-based attack powerful enough to vaporize an entire mountain.

Woobat

Woobat is basically Unova's answer to Zubat. (Their names even rhyme!) Fortunately, Woobat outclasses Zubat in a few key areas: its movepool makes it easier to level-up early on, it doesn't assault your Pokemon with Supersonic and its visual design is a little more inventive. Nifty little Pokemon all around!

528 SWOOBAT
Through friendship quota, one can evolve Woobat into Swoobat. Unlike what happened in Kanto with Ekans and Koffing that Team Rocket shared, Jessie's Woobat hasn't evolved. At least not yet. Pehaps James is the caring part in the team or something. Swoobat looks good enough to me, along with its predecessor, they remind me of Allemange in Final Fantasy series.
