The robotic arm tugs twice on your pant leg.

Before you can make another guess, you hear the tromping of heavy legs that announces Nina's return. She weaves her way through the mess of books and crates with a rather long list in her hands.



"It doesn't make sense," she says to you, skimming the list without looking up. "According to these shipment records, we only received one crate that matches the description of the one that's rattling. However, that crate is supposed to contain Registeel's arm, and I'm fairly certain that thing has never so much as twitched by itself, so—"

Nina looks up and stops dead. She glances from you to the open crate to the robotic arm, which slowly gives her a friendly wave. She's at a loss for words.

Afterwards, I'll head back outside and take a look around. Also, I'll have Erandal'e to scout my surroundings, and report back every four-legged Pokémon she sees.

We've been so lonely, so it really is lovely to have you. You will of course be staying here from now on. But certainly you knew that, yes? It's just, well, our last visitors didn't. They wanted to leave. They begged and begged. Such poor manners! It was unfortunate, really, but we put them right in the end. Now they can't ever leave."

He steps aside and gestures to the corner. You see a pile of old, decaying bones.

"And neither can you," Nick adds, whispering into your ear with a smile.

"It would be indeed! I saw that guy had no manners, AT ALL. Did he seriously try to leave instantly? That's pretty harsh."
While saying this, I grab the Pokéball for Veggies. Time for surprising maneuvers! As soon as I've finished my little speech I throw the Pokéball with Veggies right at Nicks face who seems to stand right behind me, and not only that, I'm going to abuse the fact that they were down here so long. "VEGGIES, UNLEASH THE STRONGEST FLASH YOU EVER UNLEASHED!" In the meantime, I'll have Erandal'e guarding us with Protect as they will probably shoot some webs at me like Nick intended to do before.

Deciding that you don't want to be the Ariados's dinner guest from now until the end of time, you summon Veggies by whipping his Pokeball right at Nick's face. Your Venusaur appears in the basement and immediately shoots off a Flash of light. It's pretty bright, but it's not quite as effective as it might have been considering the Ariados already seem to have adjusted to the bright light Nick is still giving off. Before the spiders can retaliate, Erandal'e uses Protect to shield you and your party from harm.

"Oh my," Nick says, crestfallen. "I had no idea it would turn out this way. Such a disappointment! Nonetheless, we'll set you right in the end. We always do."

He then gnashes his mandibles together in a menacing way, waiting for Erandal'e's Protect to fall. You're not sure how much longer it will hold.

Don't think I'm out of options yet! As the other Ariados didn't come closer, which is pretty fortunate at the time, we are not done already! Venusaur, go for Frenzy Plant and cut them off on the other side, but make sure not to block our escape path!
Erandal'e, stop your protect all of a sudden and go for a faint attack in a defensive way, disappearing out of their sight first, and then push Nick over from behind. If he's distracted by the sudden move, I'll recall the both of you and make a run for it, but in case something doesn't work, I'll close my hands around Carlos' Pokéball, ready to summon him back to the field if something doesn't work out as planned.

Veggies lets out a roar and shines with a brilliant green light. Massive, gnarled roots surge up through the concrete floor and form and temporary wall that keeps the eight Ariados at bay. Meanwhile, Erandal'e uses a Faint Attack to sneak up behind Nick and flip him over. As Nick writhes around on his back, unable to move, you recall your Pokemon sprint for the exit. You hasten up the steps and return to the main level... where some familiar faces have been waiting for you. They look hungry.

Didn't I say i wanted to recall them in case everything works out? Ah, whatever. Leave no man, uh, Pokémon behind!
Actually, I have another idea. Let's lure the Spinarak down to the Ariados, they didn't seem to like each other a whole lot before. If they team up, I'm pretty much screwed, ey? Anyway, when I reach the hopefully still blocking wall, I recall Veggies instantly, and have Erandal'e use a mix of Protect and Fly, with me attached to her, (if my pidgey is able to take this, she has to be as well!) so we fly over the incoming Spinaraks and protect from the incoming attacks by Nick.

Ew, seriously? Spinarak again? Well, I don't think that I want to end as spiderfood today. So, let's try something stupid. I throw the Pokéball of Erandal'e into the air, and command her to use a Fly + Protect Combo, so I shield myself from incoming attacks, and fly over the Spinarak in the process. After that, I'll make a run for the door.

Time to dash! As the horde scuttles closer, you summon Erandal'e. You grab onto his talons and he takes off, soaring out of the room with a Protect raised around you both. A couple of Spider Webs bounce uselessly off the shield as Erandal'e plots a course back to the drawing room. You arrive with the door still ajar and zoom outside into the sunshine. As the Protect drops, you suck back fresh air for the first time in what feels like forever. Freedom.

With your hands still around Erandale's talons, he flaps his wings and rises higher into the sky. The more distance between you and those spiders the better. Soon, you ascend far above the dilapidated rooftops and can look out over the entire village. It's quite a view. Glancing eastward, you see something small bobbing its way through the clear sky. Looks like your bad fortune is starting to reverse.



It's not every day you see a shiny Togetic.

Togetic shrugs and acquiesces to your request. You fly lower and touch down in the middle of a nondescript side street. You see a couple of Pokemon trainers stroll by with their Pokemon.



"Normal-types?" Togetic asks, scratching his chin. "Uh, yeah, I suppose so. What did you have in mind?"

"I saw a whole lot of cat-like Pokémon when I first entered the old village" I say, ignoring the trainers for now, "I wonder if there are dog-like Pokémon. To be specific, did you ever see or encounter a Lillypup, Herdier or Stoutland here?"

"Hrm... hard to say... I haven't lived here very long," Togetic murmurs. "Oh, of course, I've got it! There's a track to the northern end of the village, right along the outskirts, where Lillipup and Herdier are raced. You can place bets on them and everything. Does that help?

"It does, thanks! One more thing, I'm currently trying to expand my Team of fellow Pokémon, and I wanted to ask if you'd be interested! I know, it's a bit rushed, but I saw your flying skills, and you are really talented!"
If he/she doesn't want to join, I let her go. I might miss the chance to have a shiny Togetic, but as I said before, I'm not going to catch any Pokémon by pure force.
I make sure to look disappointed if that happens, and wish him/her good luck on his/her journey, wherever that might be.

Northward you go! You make your way through the winding streets for several minutes until the nearby houses become gradually sparser. Soon, as you reach the outskirts, you find yourself approaching a smallish stadium with the words Old Village Racetrack stamped out front near the gate. You draw close and see a bored-looking Kecleon in a little booth. He peers at you without expression.



"Welcome to the Old Village Racetrack, home of the most mega crazy, super exciting, rock 'em sock 'em edge-of-your-seat family fun gambling experience this side of Shinsuke Island Casino," he says in a misanthropic monotone. "Admission is 300 Pokedollars per Pokemon and 100 Pokedollars per human."

I did think about some confuse shenanigans, but why do I need to get into there with attacking someone who did nothing wrong?
"Thanks then. I guess I'll have to come back later!" I make a big show of leaving disappointed, and go behind the stadium, where I recall Carlos and let Erandal'e fly me in from above, hopefully not getting noticed by anyone. If Erandal'e manages to get Carlos up there as well, I let him use confusion, so noone notices us coming in, due to distraction.

OK arm, we're going to have to work something out. Hmm, I wonder if you can write?

I'll pick the arm up and hang it over my shoulder so it can hold on. Then I'll have a look around see if I can find some kind of writing implements and some plain paper to write on.

If Nina appears, then I'll have to hear what she says first before trying another stupid story on her. Priority, defend the arm at any cost.

Rather than assaulting a poor, innocent Kecleon, you scurry away and carefully meander toward the far side of the stadium. Recalling Carlos, you grab onto Erandal'e who Flies you high into the air. You pass over the mouth of the stadium and peer down below. A couple dozen Pokemon and trainers are sitting in the stands, but they don't seem to be looking at the sky and therefore don't notice you touching down in a vacant stretch of seats. Their eyes are on the track, where several Lillipup appear to be racing.

Keeping an eye out for the Kecleon, you leave the stands behind and head toward the lobby. Once there, you look around and find a set of stairs heading down. The words EMPLOYEES ONLY are stamped on the adjacent wall. Well, what's life without a little risk, eh? You take the stairs down toward the floor below, where you come out in a narrow hallway lined with doors. It's rather grim and grubby down here. A single bare bulb illuminates the area.

Suddenly, you hear footsteps just ahead coming from around a corner.

Erandal'e, fly me up to the lightbulb, and I start screwing with it, making it look like I fix it. If the one around the corner shows up and acts surprised, I start speaking. "Oh, hello there! I'm just doing my job right here. So if you would stop staring at me, that would help a lot. Also, where are the replacement light bulbs? I thought someone was ordered to delive them briefly. Gosh, you can't work with these dorks around every corner.."

You grab onto Erandale's talons as your Murkrow Flies you up to the ceiling. You then use your free hand to pretend to be replacing the light bulb. At that moment, three unfamiliar figures round the corner. They stop dead when they see you there fluttering there in the middle of the hallway. They look utterly shocked.



Improvising quickly, you act like some kind of custodian. The simians exchange dumbfounded looks.

"Sir, I don't know what you're playing at, but I am Velma P. Ambipom, owner of this racetrack," the Ambipom says crossly. "As I have never once hired any humans to work here, I'm acutely aware you're not who you're pretending to be. Now, explain yourself before I alert the authorities."

Velma and her Aipom companions stare at you flatly as you explain yourself.



"An actor? Well, that certainly is, uh, fascinating. As we're just finishing up the last race of the day, so I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you to leave. I will escort you to the exit," Velma says. She then glances toward the two Aipom and whispers to them. You can just barely make out what she's saying. "The Lillipup were especially sluggish today. Nobody wants to watch sluggish racers, so make sure you give them an extra hard whipping tonight and tell them you won't be cleaning out their cages unless they double their efforts tomorrow. Oh, and make sure you give the Herdier half rations tonight. Some of them simply have too much meat on their bones. Understood?"

With that, the Aipom nod and scurry off. Velma strolls toward you, grabs you by the elbow and guides you back toward the stairs.

I have a lot of experience with the "Puppy Pokémon" and "Loyal Dog" species. I've overheard that some of your Pokémon are not giving their best efforts, and I certainly know how to get the best out of them, if you know what I mean."

As Velma leads you up the stairs back to the lobby, you spin a yarn about being some hot shot puppy trainer. Velma stops and peers at you with interest.



"It never even occurred to me to seek out a Pokemon trainer's assistance!" she exclaims. "How silly of me! Yes, I need all the help I can get. I whip and I starve and I punish but it's never enough to get those Lillipup and Herdier into line. Goodness, your Murkrow... it looks so obedient! Your methods really must be good! What do you suggest I do? Are there any special tricks you can teach me?"
