The forum was recently upgraded to SMF 1.1 Release Candidate 2. A new feature in this version is the ability to edit your posts directly from the topic page, with AJAX functionality. That red X is supposed to be an image that you can click on in order to edit your post; it looks like Kevin didn't upload that image to the server after upgrading. I'm sure he'll do so soon.
