    Default The Big 10,000

C'mon, you know 10,000 is impressive. I usually don't make stupid "My nth post" topics but this is a landmark. I didn't actually spam to get this far

Took me five years and about two months to get to 10,000. I remember my first post was in someone else's "I'm New" thread, thinking people would welcome me with the same enthusiasm. Yeah, I was that naive back then

Ok, since I need to turn this spammy topic into one of intellectual discussion, here's a link to a CNN article concerning the rallies later today against schools, businesses and jobs. What do you think will happen and will it be enough to change Bush's mind?

Hm, congrats. You deserve your postcount.

About the article, I cannot come up with anything special. I just point out that here in Finland, there have been lots of walkouts recently, too. That hasn't changed a thing. The reasons have been somewhat different though. Apart from low salaries, the working people is also protesting because all the jobs are going to China, Estonia and other low-priced countries. Heh, someone could think they are arranging demostrations against Zhongguo!

Congrats on being one of the few people who actually didn't spam to get this far. Nearly everyone else with 10000+ posts has.

The article... meh, doesn't really affect me so I dunno.

Hey congrats TML! That awesome and I hope one day I can join you and the others in the 10,000+ Catagory.

As for the article, I dont think they are designed to change Bush's mind, more like Congress since they are the ones that will decide the future of Illigals. As for the Walk out, we have had walk outs before in the 60s and nothing changed, yeah prices will rise a little bit but that's about it. And if these criminals * I wont say Illigals becuase they are breaking the law, so basically they are criminals * don't like our immigration policy, then get out! If they want everything handed to them in Spanish then go back to a country that actually speaks the language. All the other immigrants that come here learn English, you should be expected too, no matter how many of you there are. Anyway since I live in Texas, things should be pretty interesting tomarrow since Hispanics are the majority around here.

    Congrats Becca, you earned it!!

On the topic...First, look, you have your children going to school for free(for those undocumented), and you take them out, what is it like they say: "Pedro, no learning for you today!"? How does boycotting free education hurt our government?
As for businesses, more citizens live in this country, and a good share dislike undocumented people, so I don't see this as working to their advantage...for the businesses who use them, it will be a holiday, to stores, they'll still have a lot of customers...There's a lot of people getting fired up...they have no direction though, so this will not work as planned...if they get into blocking traffic, or blocking people from stores...guess what...they'll get arrested, and rightly so...

[b][size=3] Hey I'm here for four years and I didn't even have half her number of posts. ;_; Congrats on that sis, you deserved it for being in the 5 figure post club along with Gabi.

It is no surprise on the illegal immigrants there. We Singapore also have illegal immigrants. Those caught were caned, jailed and later deported back to their native nation. There is even a law that would put even those who habour them behind bars and even hefty fines. Hence to think that USA had decided to do this, does not comes as a surprise.

Hey, congrats on 10K, Becca! And good job in not celebrating your postcount until you actually reached an impressive mark.

And as for the immigration issue, I figure such a protest would actually help the U.S. economy if it included all the illegals being purged from the country. That's the real problem. It's not the level of immigration, but rather the number of those immigrants who come here illegally that is troublesome.

(makes it a note that Missing Link doesn't like me, but I'm congratulating her anyway because 10,000 is a Hell of an accomplishment!)

    ...

Now, as for the immigration thing...

Ummmm... I don't get it. How exactly does a million Latinos not showing up for work solve a problem?

and about the immigration thing....it really bothers me they even had the nerve to do this. They come here illegally, dont pay taxes, and yet they want all the freedoms that we have. Oh, and a lot of them want everything to be in spanish. I dont want to learn spanish for people who are too lazy to learn english, give me a break.

Someone said that their boss said he would fire anyone who didnt show up today to work. I hope he isnt the only boss to do this

Ash_300 was a decent guy until he jumped ontp the spam bandwagon. Last post indicates he hasn't been here since 2004.

Anyway, if most illegal immigrants come from the South, I'd say it's more like people seeking refuge, but couldn't get through because of the laws or lack of money. Last I heard, Mexico is still a land of crime. Still, what's illegal is illegal. It's like stealing money to feed a family of ten. Desperate, but still wrong.

I pity the people, but not the act.

Good job on reaching this impressive post-landmark. I've never seen you spam either so it's even more impressive. Here's to another 10k. *raises glass*

As for the rally, I honestly don't think anything can change Mr. Bush's mind. I think the people going onto the streets have every right to. I'm not an expert when it comes to the US but just looking at the jobs and tasks immigrants (legal and illegal ones) do, it's always the kind of work that the locals often feel too good for. So without all those immigrants I see some severe problems arising. In my opinion they would have to continue this rally for weeks, every single day. The protests in France not long ago showed that sometime's the small man can change something.

about the rally..well I don't know much about stuff like that, but they're doing it cos they want a better life...*shrugs* however, immigrants are immigrants, and many countries face the problem of being illegally entered...¬_¬ I don't think it'll help them much now, but who know what'll happen in the long term. lol.

the point is, America is the nation of immigrants. the fact that most Americans don't recognize that we were once them is just so ignorant and dimwitted.

either way, the strikes and boycotts will kill the american economy. but at least the social gains are worthwhile.

We've had strikes and boycotts before and they have never killed the economy. Infact it seems the economy is never doing better after the Strike. I believe yesterday the Dow hit the highest it has ever been in five years! And the strikes on Monday were considered a nusance at best, most people said that "Yeah it caused a few problems, but nothing major." So no I don't see the strikes doing anything. And yes you're right, America is a nation of immigrants. Each year 500,000 of those immigrants are granted citizenship after going through a long process. Those immigrants also take the time to learn English and strive to become a part of society. So why should these Criminal Mexicans get a free ride when so many people work hard to gain their citizenship? Should we allow them a free pass just becuase they have larger numbers than any other group of immigrants? How is giving them amnisty and all that fair to all the other immigrants who work long and hard to get here the correct way?

i meant to say if the strikes continue for a long time. yeah, the economy is in great health.

the point is, kicking the illegals out is plainly enforceable. they will sneak in regardless. the issue is what to do once they get through. we cannot necessarily boot them out - it's impossible. however, we can utilize them in labor-intensive industries, which seems to be worthwhile. though probably unenforceable, working in the united states as an immigrant (regardless of status) would require an education. get the immigrants to want to integrate themselves into the society, and they will. the problem is, we're not really doing that as a country. we're blocking them out when we should be letting them in.

also, you cannot call a Mexican a criminal just because they look for a better life by emigrating to America. that's like calling an American a criminal because they want to live a better life out of their slums or ghettos. it's just so hypocritical to call an immigrant a criminal when everyone is a criminal in some way, especially Americans. as a country we have a long list of criminal acts and so, we cannot simply brand people as criminals without considering what we were then and are now. it doesn't change the fact that every person is a criminal, regardless of crime.

How should we be letting them in? Eventually the jobs they want will be filled up and yet they will still be coming in. Eventually the economy will crash becuase the U.S. will have more than the 3 million or so poor that we have right now just becuase we have too many people and not egnough jobs for everyone. One day the border states will be just as the Mexicans call them. "New Mexico". So yes right now by allowing them in, and all the gangs, and all of Mexco's scum and poor to cross the border and fill up jobs and bring drugs. We are allowing for gains in jobs, yet eventually all those jobs will be taken up and you will just have even more poor filling up the hospitals like the criminal immigrants are right now, and sucking the tax system and the hospitals dry.

As for the criminal thing. They are crossing the border illigally. They ARE Criminals, they ARE breaking the laws. We just do not arrest most of them. So as long as they ARE breaking the law by being here, then I will continue to refer to them as Criminal Immigrants. And as long as we have drug lords, and drug gangs and gangs crossing the Mexico/US border to have fire fights inside of Texas and other border states, and killing United States citizens. Then I will call them Criminal Immigrants. Becuase that is what they are, no matter what they are, they are criminals. If they want a better life, that is fine, but plenty of poor people rob homes and rob stores, to get money for a better life and we consider them criminals becuase they are breaking the law. This is no different.

you assume that there will be no growth, no development in the united states. which, assuming that the economic trend in the united states continues, should remedy those problems. also assuming that the government doesn't ration all the national income to donald trump or dick cheney. regardless, under normal circumstances, the general condition of the united states will improve, as growth will move to improve the standard of living for all. and as for a remedy for your "budget problem" that results from too many "scum," there's such thing as [size=5]RAISING TAXES or [size=5]NOT SPENDING ALL OUR MONEY ON IRAQ OR HALLIBURTON, so that we can spend it on the more important things like SOCIAL SECURITY or MEDICARE

the only laws they have room to abide for are those of life and death. they would die if they remained in Mexico. it's simple enough for them: die in Mexico, or live in the US. once they get here, though, they rob and kill because we, as Americans, disempower them so. we don't give them status in the united states. we don't even recognize them as humans in the united states. they are just formless pieces of shit to americans. we don't give a rat's ass about them, so we never try to help them. which is why they get stuck in low to no paying jobs. which is why they "rob and kill," though, really, you speak of a small minority of immigrants. not every immigrant is part of a gang, or mafia, or whose hobby is robbing a store.

i can't believe i'm seeing someone dehumanize a whole race in one sweeping generalization. not very many things piss me off, but dehumanization of life really ****ing pisses me off.

I'm not going to respond to the first part except I am glad to see you post something actually positive about America. Also if you go down to the south and to the local bus stops and crossings where Immigrants wait to be picked up, you will notice more and more that more immigrants are being turned away.

Now onto the second, we do give them some status, we allow them to buy goods, to get free care at hospitals and thus swamp our hospitals to the point that they are almost bankrupt. We allow them to drive cars with out insurance or a lisence. Some are able to buy guns and shoot cops like what has happened several times in the past year in Dallas. And yes we don't give a rat's ass about most of them, but then again they are criminals, they are here breaking the law. And we mostly do not do anything about it. And there are some Illigals that do come here and try to intigrate into society and try to become citizens legally which is great. Yet it is very very freaken hard to support them, when everyday you watch your city try to accomidate the ones that do not want to intigrate. It's hard to watch the gangs mostly made by Criminal Immigrants become more and more frequent all over the south. Or that border towns along the Mexican Border have become full of drugs so that they can cross them over to the United States. Or to hear about Border security getting shot at each week by Criminals as they try to cross over with drugs and weapons, to try and help the gang wars that are going on in border towns in the US. We have more American Citizens dieing over here from these criminals than we do in Iraq right now but all people want to do is bitch about that.

So you know what? If the Criminals want to become Citizens the right way and become a part of Society in the U.S. and remain hard workers then I applaud them as great members of this great country. Yet if they don't want to, and want to come over here and expect us to become New Mexico for them, or want to come over here only to continue a life of violence. Then I say get the hell out.

OK, OK, break it up, guys.

Phaedrus, Roy, you both want your opinions known?

Fine - there's a thread on the top of the very next page called 'Illegal Immigrants, Tolerable or not?'

Argue there, if you would be so kind. Yeah, this post initially had something to do with the immigration protests and strikes and whatever, but now it's dissolving back into the same old argument: Illegal Immigrants, Tolerable or not?

If you read the opening part of the topic Blade you would have noticed that this topic is partly about Illigal Immigration and the Marches and Rallies that have been happening lately. Anyway it is kind of refreshing to have a lively debate happening in Misc again, everything has been too PC and nice lately, it kind of feels like the good ole days in here ~.^.

It's okay man, I understand and would do the exact same thing if I was in your place. You should try and check out the Archive area to see some old debates and how they would rage for pages upon pages of people arguing their point. Truely some great times back then.

glad to see we can agree on something.

We have more American Citizens dieing over here from these criminals than we do in Iraq right now but all people want to do is bitch about that.
we would focus on it, but the fact that the administration's vision is transfixed upon a fundamentalist muslim movement doesn't help anyone. if we empowered the immigrants to do things besides shoot people, then they will not. it's simple as that. give them buying power to buy themselves better lives, and before you know it, shootings will be virtually zero, or minimal at least.

the barrier to that plan, obviously, is mexico itself. if they can develop further to prevent this kind of gang warfare, then we will benefit extensively from their development.

it's not necessarily america's right to decide who wants to integrate. look in the 19th century. no one liked the irish. no one wanted the irish to integrate. but what happened? they integrated. if you extend it to now, no one "likes" the mexicans. they want to integrate. chances are, nothing's going to stop them. what america can do is try to make it as smooth as possible, as painless as possible.

Then I say get the hell out.
i would agree too, though it's hard to sift through the many that come here. and placing an immigration restricition is economical suicide. the only way the violence will stop is if mexico develops enough to not require mafia life to survive. and america can't do much there. so we will have to be prepared for the long haul, but i say as long as we benefit from the immigrants more than we get hurt by them, so be it. it is impossible to focus on every individual's plight, and so, we must focus on the plight of the country in general.

I do agree with you, it is practically Mexico's fault that this is happening and has gotten so bad. Hell they pass out maps and cartoons to help people cross the border becuase they simply don't want to deal with them. Change needs to come from within so that we can help bring them out of third world country status before we can truly solve this whole problem.
