Game: Deal or No Deal-Version 1 (M.A. Lady Vulpix)

Hello, I want to welcome everybody to the first version of TPM "Deal or No Deal." The game will be played just like the television gameshow!! If you are interested in playing, please signup!!

Rules:

When a new version of "Deal or No Deal" is posted, signups will take place for the first 72 hours. (or longer, depending on how long it takes to get at least two participants to sign up. You can register up until I post saying that registration for this version is closed.) After the sign up period, the games will begin!! People will play one at a time until everybody has had a turn. The order that you registered in will not necessarily be the order that you play in. Playing order will be determined using a randomizer, and the entire playing order will be posted upon the closing of registration. I would appreciate it if while you are playing, you make an effort to take no longer than 24-48 hours to respond, to keep the game moving along at a fast enough pace so that others do not become disinterested. After 48 hours have passed, and if no notice has been given for a reason of absence, you may be disqualified for this version, and the next person would then play their game. After everybody that registered for this version has played, the person who made the most money will be the winner, and a new version will be started.

How to Play:

If you have seen "Deal or No Deal" on TV, then you probably will have a pretty good idea of how to play!! Here is how we will play "Deal or No Deal"

There are 26 different "Cases" numbered from 1 through 26. Inside each case is a dollar amount, ranging from $.01 up to $1,000,000. Before each game, using my own "Deal or No Deal" board game, I will randomly place the money amounts in the different cases without looking. I, like you, will have no idea which dollar amount is in each case until you open it. At the start of the game, you will pick which case (number between 1-26) that you want to keep, try to pick the one that you think has the $1,000,000 inside!! This case will be your own personal case, you can either keep it, or sell it to the banker when an offer is made.

After choosing your case, you will have to start opening the other 25 cases. Every case will have a unique money amount inside, so whatever is in the cases that you open can not be inside your case. So, when you start opening cases, you will want to try to open the cases with the lowest amounts inside.

After a certain amount of cases have been open, you will receive an offer from the banker. The banker wants to buy your case from you for as little money as possible. The more high values you have left in the unopened cases, the higher the offer from the banker will be. Your goal is to leave with as much money as you can. Your game ends when you take the deal from the banker, or after you have opened all of the cases in the game, and you take whatever is inside your case. If you do not take any of the offers from the banker, when you get to the point in the game where there is only one unopened case besides your own case, you may switch your case with the other remaining case.

Here are the number of cases that you have to open in each round before the banker will make an offer to you.

Round 1: 6 Cases.
Round 2: 5 Cases.
Round 3: 4 Cases.
Round 4: 3 Cases.
Round 5: 2 Cases.
Round 6: 1 Case.
Round 7: 1 Case.
Round 8: 1 Case.
Round 9: 1 Case. (Final Round)

One last rule: To keep the game moving at a quick enough pace, when you are playing the early rounds (Rounds 1 through 5) and have to pick multiple cases, pick all of them in one post, because other people will be waiting their turn, and it could be a lengthy game since we are not playing in real-time. For the first round, with your first post after the game starts, you may pick the case that you want to keep, as well as the 6 cases that you want to open.

Winners will have their name added to the Deal or No Deal Hall of Fame, which will be posted starting with Version 2.

Finally, here are the boards that will be posted. I will post them after you finish each round. The dollar values and case numbers that are highlighted in yellow are the ones that are still in play. Also, I will post the previous offers that you have received from your earlier rounds.

Not very. Really, outside of registering, there isn't a whole lot to do until it is your turn to play. Even though the rules say about posting 24-48 hours, I am not going to be crazily enforcing the rule. As long as the game is moving along and you try to at least get a post in every few days, that is perfectly fine. I just don't want the gameplay to stop for very long times and have people become disinterested and all that good stuff. So yeah, if you are interested, I would like for you to sign up!!

In this case, I will take case 18. 18 has always been some sort of a lucky number. 18 was the date of my birthday and I always get stuck in the 18th stage for all games, do not know which but it seems kind of funny. >.<;

As for the next 6 boxes, do I opened them up in one shot? Or do I have an option of opening them on at a time like the ones in reality?

If I have a choice of opening them one at a time, I would go for 6.

Dark-San: You can open up the cases however you like, if you wanted to open all 6 of them at once, that would be fine, but if you want to open them up one at a time, then that is ok too!!

No deal. So early in the game and I got myself a cool $65, 000. I am playing for big numbers here.

I would picked up the next five cases. I will be a little bit superstitious here. Chinese do not like the number 4 as well as 10. Since those numbers are read as 'si', which practically means death.

I am not going to start my first lunar new year on a bad start so I am clearing up whatever numbers that have to do with it. In that case, I would be opening cases 4, 10, 14, 24 and 2.

No deal. Another obvious case! The six figure sum barely cuts the minimum. The range of cases from 16 to 21 are all unopened. This makes the choice of my numbers a little bit more interesting.

Case 15 is a small value, which would make case 16 a bit dangerous. Besides the odd on me opening up small values on the left side are like 19%. Not even close to the ideal percentage that is needed to determine.

As such for this round, I have to take a risk. For if I do not take one, there is nothing for me to gain either. A small step from Dark-san, a giant step for gain at fortune! I going for Case 19, 20 and a lucky guess at 12!

I am very sorry... case 9 had the largest value remaining, $750,000. Case 17 was a good choice though. You still have a chance at the half million.

The offer is going to go down a little bit, now that the two top values are gone. However, you still have 3 of the top 6 remaining, so the offer is still going to be good. From now on, you will receive an offer after every case that you open. Open the smaller values, and the offers go up a lot.

Hey, out of curiosity.. how is the order that we play determined?

Magmar: Originally, I had planned to use a randomizer to determine play order. The game was originally going to have a sign up period that closed once gameplay began. However, sign ups originally got off to a slow start, Dark-San was the only person who had signed up when the original sign up period ended and the games started. Since Dark-San was the only one registered, I went ahead and let people sign up afterwards throughout the games. So basically, people will be playing this round in the order that they registered. So you would play after mr_pika is finished, then Inferno_Dragon would play, and then Heald would play. But in the future versions, the randomizer will be used to determine playing order. Because hopefully all of you will be coming back for version 2, right? ^_~

Ok, now back to the game.

Interesting choice of cases mr_pika, hopefully you picked a cluster of low numbers!!

The strategy generally worked pretty well, only 1 large value was opened, and you kept the $750,000 in play. Leaving that $750,000 case closed is going to be extremely important now. 4 of the top 7 cases are still unopened. Even though the half million is gone, leaving the three quarters of a million is going to bump up the offer a little bit.
