From matching gems to the perfect match
I have to say, this is pretty cool. Now imagine if someone did this with WoW. I can just see someone creating a dungeon and waiting for his/her loved one to get through it (while others tried as well, which could be... interesting).

Time's Global Warming Issue gone too far?
Personally I find it absolutely disgusting what they did, and it seems alot of Iwo Jima Vets are pissed off as well. The Global Warming cause has gone from advocacy to almost cult like insanity it seems.
Japanese school team hit for 66 runs in two innings
I feel sorry for the Kawamoto pitcher.
Well lets not forget these people are over 80 years old, or just pushing it, and have been through hell and back while at Iwo Jima where they watched their friends get slaughtered day in and day out. I could see how they would be a bit pissed by using a landmark moment during a battle where they gave their blood, sweat, and tears for, being used as a mockery for a movement that borders on lunacy in it's ignorance to hear any other view point.
Middle-Eastern "scientists" lie in order to make their magic cube sound more important
In an age of science, it is completely ridiculous that there are still nations gripped by fundamentalism and prejudice rather than logic and justice.

...I don't see any proof. Aside from that one guy who said that Mecca lies directly between the magnetic north and south poles (which is not only an outright lie - the current path between the magnetic poles goes through Africa, not Mecca - but is also irrelevant due to the fact that the magnetic poles wander and vary a few miles each year), I see no evidence to support this stupid idea.
Sadly it is idiot scientists like these that can give any religion a really bad name. I love the addition of how these "scientists" look through the Quran for scientific truths...
I mean I love the Bible as much as the next Christian, but I don't look at the story of Noah as Scientific Fact.

Wesley Snipes sentenced for three years for not paying taxes
I love how the American Justice System is still as racist as ever. When it comes to celebrities, if you're a rich daddy's girl, like Paris Hilton and Lindsey Lohan, if you recklessly endanger the lives of yourself and everyone around you through repeatedly drink-driving, then all you get is a slap on the wrist. If you're a black guy, then you get sentenced for the maximum time possible for not filling out your tax papers right.
Sorry Martin Luther King, looks like you died for nothing.

I posted this in the Elections topic since it may bring back the Iran issue into the campeign. But it is also daily news and should be commented on by the world. So here we go.
Times Online is reporting that two sources in the Middle East are saying that the British hostages captured by terrorist over a year ago in Iraq. Are being held in Iran by the Revolutionary Guard. Apparently they were turned over to the Guard by their kidnappers and have been held ever since.

Iran has been pissing off the UK for ages, including this time last year when Iran forces invaded British-controlled Iraqi waters, kidnapped a bunch of British sailors and held them hostage for a while.
I say nuke Iran. Everyone there is a terrorist more or less.

This isn't really news, but I am glad that the Dollar is finally rebounding instead of it's decline to become the laughing stock of the modern world.
Hmm the US dollar rising would be beneficial here for our exports and stuff but my god, petrol prices will be over the roof. In fact one of the main reasons, New Zealands petrol prices are still under 2 dollars a litre is due to the fact that the US dollar is weak against the NZ dollar. Just a 10 cent change will push our prices perhaps to the 2 dollar plus mark. So while dairy exports and meat exports and tourism would benefit, importers who are already feeling the pinch as sales are slowing and consumers could be worse off.
The British Pound rising would be good for exports and tourism and perhaps with Migration, but hopefully it doesn't reach the stage when it was so expensive to travel to Britain.
Anyway just turning the News story into a local issue.

Universal lose promo CD case
Finally, courts are standing up to the music industry. I hate how after Napster, the music industry is doing everything in its power to make sure that as it implodes, it takes down everything with it. I love the comparison made that their logic that they're the true owners of promo CDs is akin to the logic of goblins in Harry Potter. Universal are appealing to overturn the decision, but I hope this doesn't happen. Allowing music industries to have eternal ownership of anything they produce would set an incredibly dangerous precedent.

Wood River Refinery expansion halted by IEPA
This seems more local, but the refinery, less than a mile south/west of my house, is the third largest in the US. As you can tell from the comments, it's quite divisive here, with some blaming "tree-huggers" and others blaming the current government or ConocoPhillips. While oil refining isn't the greenest business, it's one of, if not the biggest in my area (next to a steel mill).
I personally thought CP was doing above and beyond to try and reduce emissions and that the protesters should have seen this and not put jobs of many in my community in jeopardy.

Australia succeeds United States as 'Fattest' Nation
I still think this is unfair; not only are their more people in America's 25% than Australia's 26%, but the BMI factor can throw anybody around the charts.
...I'm not dead yet!
I like how an official report by "the Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute" has such a silly name as "Australia's Future Fat Bomb." I mean, it got your attention, but will people take it seriously?
Hahahahahahaha Australians are fatties hahahahahahahahahhahaha. Its funny when you think of Australia as the fattest country. Because you never get that impression really. Where do these people hide?

Supreme Court struck down the DC Handgun ban!
Well finally the Supreme Court gets something right. Upholding the 2nd Amendment and striking down this STUPID handgun ban.
Saw that article about an hour ago. Astonishing that it was such a close vote. Did four of the justices really think that "bear arms" excluded guns? Yes, I can see the argument for militias, but... let's get serious!
Those four Justices really really scare me. I'll pretty much always assume that part of the original intent of the Second Amendment was to allow the populous a fighting chance against the Government if it were to get too oppressive. In other words the 2nd Amendment remains one of the few safeguards to keep the Government from becoming a dictatorship.
And no wonder America has the highest counts of murder in the western world (which of course excludes Mexico etc).
I really don't think when the Constitution was made that the bearing of arms in the modern sense was what they were thinking. But of course powerful groups such as NRA make sure that it stays. And ensure that it is defended everywhere. But the truth is without guns, America would be far safer.
But of course that statement can't be made since unlike other western countries, America has always upheld the right to own handguns etc where elsewhere its not allowed and because its so enriched in American culture. Banning it in anyway wouldn't change things because its so entrenched.

^Bingo. Thanks for saving me the time and brainpower of typing that (much more poorly) myself.
And guess what? The City that banned this, had the highest crime rate, with the Gun Ban!
Isnt that amazing? You have one of the most Liberal Gun Restrictions in the entire United States, and all it has done is help create the most violent city in the US. Then again as the old saying goes "You never see anyone trying to rob a gunshow"
It doesnt matter what caliber the guns were, the basic premise still exists. You have a right to your property and a right to protect it.
Only for the criminals. We could outlaw guns right now and the Criminals would still have them. Washington DC is a perfect example as to why Gun Bans do NOT work in America.
That is true, Americans always have that crazy idea that we should be able to protect our property and ourselves.

Guns in the wrong hands is a problem. The thing is, when guns are outlawed, as another saying goes, the only people with guns are the outlaws. I'm not in support of guns, but I'm not sure of any alternatives.
