    I'm going to use my shiny female Clefable, Ai. It's got the Magic Charm as ability, so it'll be tricky on the ref. Take, if you dare.

    Alright gang time to test it out. With the introduction of abilities, the Mods have taken the power restrainers off of a few select Pokemon. The ones for this challenge are Ai and Ace, belonging to MLG and TML respectively. Alright. Abilities Set. Ready? GO!

    Ace starts things off by glowing before splitting into four separate copies (-4 E @ Ace, 4 Clones 80% Evasion). It seems like Ai is also preparing herself as she centers herself (-3 E @ Ai, SPATK +, SPDEF +).

    Ai gets ready, as she starts to sing a sweet lullaby while Ace tries to get himself pumped for battle (-3 E @ Ai/-2 E @ Ace, ATK +, DEF +). Through the Hariyama's own mental psyche, the song seems to have no effect.

    Ace, despite his bulk, rushes forward, hands outstretched. His clones do the same, confusing Ai as she's pummeled with a powerful hand-slap (-4 E @ Ace/-14 H @ Ai,, ABILITY ACTIVATED: Paralized, SPD --). While she was hit and felt her muscles lock up, Ai unleashed a burst of electric shockwaves that hit the surrounding area (-5 E @ Ai/-5 H @ Ace, Clones Gone. Evasion Normal).

    So the first round and already abilities are being put into play. Let's keep it going!

    Another night on the loch, another battle erupting throughout the highlands.

    Ace steadies himself as he slams a fist down, causing the ground to roll at the Clefable ([i]-10 E @ Ace/-11 @ Ai). Rocked and rolled Ai glows with a strong aura before Ace was picked up and then thrusted against the ground (-12 E @ Ai/-18 H @ Ace).

    Without the impeding effects of Paralysis, Ai crackles with electricity before bursting it at Ace, who seems ready to take the hit (-3 E @ Ai, SPATK +/-6 H @ Ace). Hit with the attack, Ace smiles as he exacts his revenge (-12 E @ Ace/-20 H @ Ai), which sends her flying back.

    Speed on his side once more, Ace digs underground with his mighty hands (-5 E @ Ace), leaving a large hole where the Fighting Type once stood. Ai tries to use her mental prowess to haul him out, but can't connect with his mind (-8 E @ Ai).

    So with the end of this round, we have Ace underground, and Ai looking frustrated.

    Third round and it's still anyone's match.

    Ace digs straight up underneath Ai, hitting her pretty hard (-4 E @ Ace/-7 H @ Ai). The Clefable isn't swayed by this as she crackles with electricity before unleashing a point blank beam of supercharged energy (-15 E @ Ai/-17 H @ Ace, PAR, 25% Attack Failure and SPD --, Guts Ability Activated → ATK +). Ouch.

    Now both back on... somewhat even footing with regards to speed, Ace gets ready to pound the ground (-8 E @ Ace), but before the energy can transfer, looks like Ai just bounced straight up into the sky (-5 E @ Ai). The rumbling wave of rock dies down, as Ace missed his target.

    Ai comes straight down, landing on top of the Hariyama (-4 E @ Ai/-9 H @ Ace). Yes that hurt, and he was ready to put the hurt back on Ai (-6 E @ Ace/-14 H @ Ai).

    Another battle comes to a close

    Ok, use Grass Knot, then Thunderbolt and finish with Psychic.

    If Ace tries Double Team, use Shockwave.

    If it tries a fighting move, use Counter. If it uses Focusblast use Double Team.

    I want 2 questions answered before I post attacks

    1) Why was Ai so easily able to pull off a Zap Cannon? Ace came out below her and we can assume she was knocked away and off balance. I don't see how she could recover quickly enough to pull off an accurate attack

    2) When Ai was paralyzed by force palm, why did it only cause a speed slowdown instead of actual physical paralysis? If your answer involves abilities, then I would argue that a byproduct of a direct attack should be allowed as opposed to a stat attack that actually doesn't cause damage (sleep powder, sing)

    I'll answer your questions as best I can TML.

    1. Zap Cannon hit Ace due to a couple of factors. The hit Ace gave Ai may have knocked her back, but she was able to keep her footing, and charge up for Zap Cannon. Range is also an issue here. Zap Cannons explanation has it as an erratic ray of super-lightning. Such a move would become more likely to miss the farther away the target is. The distance between both Pokemon allowed for a higher chance of being struck with Zap Cannon, as opposed to a miss, thus why it hit Ace.

    2. It's not "just Abilities," it's Clefable's specific one.

    I really don't see how a 560 lb Pokemon is unable to knock down an 88 lb Pokemon. The sheer force alone should be enough


    Protect against the grass knot. Then as soon as she releases thunderbolt, use double team. If she uses shockwave, come in for a seismic toss. If she uses psychic, use earthquake

    Alright ladies and gents, the first official match for Abilities is nearly over with both combatants at near equal power. While Ace has the upper hand in Type advantage, Ai is a swiss-army-knife of attacks and counters. Neither is going down easy so let's keep it going!

    Ace tries to prepare himself for Ai's attack, but finds that his muscles have locked up on him, while thick roots burst from the ground and take him out at the knees (-14 E @ ai/-13 H @ Ace).

    Ai starts to crackle with electricity once more, but for a weaker attack than the last electric bolt (-8 E @ Ai). It seems to hit Ace, but when the smoke clears, there's four of him standing there (-4 E @ Ace, 3 Clones, 75% Evasion). A nice break for Ace.

    Ace isn't going to let the new-found confusion in Ai wear off as he stomps the ground, sending a wave rolling through the highlands and into the Clefable (-9 E @ Ace/-11 H @ Ai). Ai looks at the surrounding Ace's before picking one and exerting her mental prowess on it (-9 E @ Ai/2 Clones, Evasion 66%), but it looks like she missed.

The reason the attacks went as they did is because of the same reasons that were brought up in the Chat earlier this month on how to deal with attack substitutions that would involve both Pokemon using multiple attacks in a single attack slot.

    Ok now it's my time for questions. Why didn't Ai use Shock Wave after the double team? It should've done Shockwave on the third action then.

    Also, why fourteen EN for Grass Knot?

    1) There are two things here.

    1a) Rebecca's specific instructions were to wait for Ai to unleash a Thunderbolt and then use Double Team. Therefore for the Second Attack Slot Ai had to be in the process of using an attack before Ace countered it. It is difficult to transition attacks from one attack to another. Since you never specified when to use Shockwave in substitution, it is always presumed to activate in the same turn that a move you are subbing against is being used. Not after. So the Shockwave would have been in the second Attack Slot and not in the third.

    1b) As I said in the Reffing, the reason I did it was because of both Pokemon getting multiple attacks within a single attack slot. It's stemmed off the same discussion we had in the Chat Topic. The line up was this:

    Ai: Thunderbolt/Shockwave/Counter
    Ace: Double Team/Seismic Toss

    The way the Commands broke down was this:

    Use Thunderbolt, and if they Double Team, then Shockwave, any fighting move Counter.

    Double Team, and if it's Shockwave, then Seismic Toss.

    The Thunderbolt triggered the Double Team, which would then Trigger the Shockwave, which then would lead to the Seismic Toss, and then Counter. When the only way for the string of commands to go out this way is due to a single Attack that circumvents the rest. This string of confusing commands leads to a headache for deciding how to have the middle of the Round play out. So the ruling is this:

    Both Trainers ended up confusing their Pokemon by trying to circumvent every possible attack from every conceivable direction that the Pokemon only went with the first attack declared by their Trainers for their second Attack Slot because they were unsure of what to do.

    2)Grass Knot is a higher Fatigue the heavier the opponent is. As per the AttackDex:

    Since Hariyama is a heavy Opponent (550-something lbs, and more than Tyranitar at 445 lbs), the Fatigue and Damage is higher.

    Well folks it looks like this might be the last round for the first official Ability Match! Can MeLo and Ai pull a win out from under TML and Ace? Or will the Clefable be 'smack boom straight to the moon?' Let's find out!

    Ace isn't willing to back down yet, as the Hariyama focuses himself before lunging at Ai, giving her a punch with the speed and power of a buckshot (-7 E @ Ace/-9 H @ Ai). While it looks like Ai's trying to copy something from DragonBall Z. She charges up a massive ball of her own ki while simultaneously charging up another attack in her mouth before she lets them both fly in a concussive blast of radiant energy and power (-12 E @ Ai, -11 H @ Ai (Energy Substitute)/-31 H @ Ace). And the attack hits hard, sending Ace bouncing back before he struggles to pick himself off the ground.

    Ai is still standing, some how, some way, burning her own health for energy hasn't dropped her (Recharge). Ace stands and tries to punch the ground, but his muscles lock up on him.

    Gritting his teeth, if he has them, Ace punches the ground for all he's worth, sending a shockwave rolling through the hinterlands, and slamming into Ai (-8 E @ Ace/-3 H @ Ai, TKO'D!). With that rolling rock wave, Ai is down!

    It's over ladies and gentlemen. The first official match using Abilities is over, with The Missing Link as the victor.
