    Haha, yeahhh, my risk really did not pay off. I was hoping for a bit of that luck DL got early on! Nonetheless, I have learned my lesson and will play a safer game next time by diversifying my picks.

    Perhaps a free catch could be added as a prize? With comparable rarity to Tokens? Just a thought.

    I was playing it smart.

    I will say this. Play at the Casino for a round or two, get a feel for how the game works, and then think of what other game might be a good fit. As for prizes...well...I'll have to look over what we have really and see what else would be worthwhile

    To be fair, that's the biggest problem we saw with the tokens/shards. Which is hilarious coz when I first did it, it was the ability swap that was the problem.

    Next off, the mods are gonna mess with evolving rules...

    And I figured as the guy running the games, I shouldn't be playing them. For the same reason people aren't allowed to ref battles that they are in.

    I know this has pretty much been suggested before but can we have a thread dedicated to discussing combos, like just putting a combo out there so you can get it approved by mods before you waste a turn trying it out, it would also be a place for noobs to look and see exactly what combos are about

    Getting a combo 'approved by a mod' doesn't mean it's going to work in the battle. What two or three attacks you put into a combo is up to you, but it's what you choose and how to word it that determines how the ref interprets it. The point of a combo is that it's a unique combination of moves designed to outsmart your opponent and do something that they couldn't plan a defence against.

    I think I get what Ash is saying. Generally, our combos are pretty linear in the sense that A + B = AB. If you use Thunderbolt + Flamethrower, you get an attack made of electricity and fire. If you use Quick Attack + Body Slam, you get a speedy physical attack.

    Ash is suggesting unique combos more along the lines of A + B = C. Egg Bomb + Substitute could create a protector that would take hits and do explosive damage if destroyed. Howl + Spacial Rend (no Pokemon gets those two moves; I'm just riffing) could create some kind of Skyrim-style wolf Familiar that would deal damage to your opponent for a limited period of time and maybe block the occasional shot.

    With the way our ASB currently works, no ref is ever going to allow a Howl + Spacial Rend combo to work as I've suggested. However, by creating a list of pre-approved A + B = C combos, we'd have a set amount of unique (but not overpowered) combos that people could whip out and refs would already know more or less how to handle them. It ultimately creates room for a bit more creativity, I guess.

    Not saying I'm necessarily endorsing the idea, but I think that's something along the lines of what Ash is suggesting.

    That kind of reminds me of the game "Magicka," where you can combine elements to create unique outcomes.
    For instance, in that game, Stone + Shield would create a sort of rock armor.

    Or Kirby for the N64, where you could combine 2 copy abilities to make an even better one.
    Like Plasma + Sword = Dual-Lightsaber FTW!

    I kind of like when games make that certain style of gameplay possible, as it creates a tiny bit of resourcefulness to the gameplay, so I think applying that kind of thing to ASB doesn't seem like such a bad idea.
    I kind of support this kind of idea (if this IS indeed what ash was thinking), and I could even come up with some combos myself.

    It just seems unnecessary to me because if your combo is ostentatious enough that it needs to be explained and then approved, it likely won't BE approved because of how broken, confusing, and/or ludicrously situational it is.

    Just to play devil's advocate, I think that's the whole point of Ash's idea: revamping our approach to combos so that we don't immediately nix ludicrous combos that have effects beyond the sum of their composite moves. He's not just suggesting an approval system; he's suggesting a general shift in attitudes so that alinear combos actually can be accepted as part of the fabric of our battling. The approval system would keep these combos in check, much like the Movelist.

    My problem with the idea is that it just takes us too far from the source material (ie. Pogeyman). Like BTPoke said, Magicka or Kirby 64 (omg such fun) are both games where crazy elemental combinations can have all these nutty effects... but Pogeyman just isn't. I'd just rather not stray further from the source material than we need to.

    alright people, so that we can get off this topic of combos i propose that we make a spriting station, where people can go in and either sign up to become a spriter or get a sprite done, like say that I wanted to get Quaker my Diglett recolored or to add a leash or something like that I pay like 2 or 3 points depending on what you want. So what do you guys think of this idea

    Now that all my reffings are caught up, and my bank account is balanced, I can spit some words here.

    1) Combos
    The purpose of combos was to create an amalgan of moves that could help turn a battle in favor of you, at the cost of losing that action. In the creation of combos, you give sole creation control to the ref unless you state what the attack should look like shape wise.

    Let's take Water Pulse and Ice Beam. You can create a double helix ice spike barrage or ice rings to encase the foe. Those are ewhat come to mind for those two attacks. You MIGHT have something different in mind. As long as you let the ref know a general idea of how you think the combo should look like, that's fine.

    What we can't have is what Combos do in terms of effects. Because each battle ha dynamics that can alter the effectiveness of the combo. Hence where Ref creative control is necessary. We can't have lists of what combos do, becasue sometimes, they may not do that! Someone may come up with Toxic+Whirlwind and create a poisonous mass that explodes in a storm, but then someone else may want to use Toxic+Whirlwind, but use Toxic as an gas and use Whirlwind to whip the toxic gas over.

    We can't possibly list all the combinations, so this is why we don't have that list. That's also why we don't restrict the combos too much, there are numerous way to interpret how they look and their spectrum of effects. So. Describe the move if you want it to look like something, but leave its effects to the refs.

    Why do I have brilliant ideas in the SHOWER where I don't have a pen to write them down?

    I thought maybe it would a good idea to make a "Rental store"...

    Person A - Lets call them Ayeun, wants to catch a pokemon/battle with a pokemon/try to use a pokemon. Ayeun doesn't own said pokemon, ect.

    Person B - Lets call them Oslo, owns the pokemon that Ayeun wants to try using. Oslo puts his pokemon (lets say his Snorlax) in the rental store, and Ayeun rents the Snorelax for a fixed period of time (a week, a battle, a month, 3 months, One safari zone, ect). Ayeun pays the Store the fixed rental price, and Oslo takes his points to buy candies. Ayeun now has a nice Snorlax (possibly with trained moves) for the time period, and then returns it to Oslo.

    Why would we want this? Some pokemon in the Safari zone react to others favorably, ect. Maybe I want to get Rayquaza. If I rented a Kyrogre and Groudon, I am SURE I could find a way to bring down the green Dragon. Don't have all 3 Regi's, but want Regigias? Rent the Regi's and go on a temple hunt...

    I was thinking a price for this could be something as simple as:

    1 point - Week (This is for a quick 1 v 1 battle)
    2 points - Month (For maybe a few battles)
    5 points - 3 Months (For a long term trial)
    10 Points - One safari trip (As they can take a while)

    Also, it should be noted that for the fixed duration of the rental, the original owner does not have access to his/her original pokemon, and can not use it in a battle. For this reason, Gym pokemon would possibly be exempt from becoming rentals, unless the Gym leader has enough in their team to make up for the slack.

    Also, I feel that all rentals in the store would need to be approved and monitored by a mod, but that's just me.

    That sounds like a good plan, considering most Legendary Pokemon that need to be "unlocked" in the Safari Zone usually require at least having 1-3 other Legendary Pokemon in your party to do so ex. Regigigas (3 Regis), Lugia (3 Legendary Birds), Rayquaza (Kyogre and Groudon), etc.

    Since most SZs take forever to complete, just going on 3 trips to eventually get the one Pokemon you do want due to restrictions set in place would actually take YEARS to complete. I'm game for this suggestion being taken into consideration.
