ASB Suggestion Thread

A follow up to this 'ASB Dex' thing. The reason we've never allowed moves learnt in Events like form the NY Pokemon Centre, or Film launches is because they are not accessible to everyone. So what about pokemon released over the Global Link? I've just seen this on Bulbapedia, special event Banette and Mamoswine. The Banette has Cotton Guard (the Mamoswine doesn't have any new moves) which it can't otherwise learn. There haven't been any other Global Link pokemon with new moves that I can see, but where do we stand on this should more come in the future? Technically, we should already allow them, as Dream World abilities are only available through the Global Link.

o.O Yeah I need to log into my Dream World Account and hurry up and claim my pokemon. Its been months, lol. Global link Pokemon are fine, because as you said, we already allow Dream World Abilities. Since these are globally linked, everyone has the chance to obtain those Pokemon.

Cotton Guard boosts defense by THREE levels, and as such is one of the MANY reasons why Whimsicott is such a pain in the ass competitively. Seriously, you ever dealt with one of those little bastards? They have Prankster and they ALWAYS fucking run that move.

Luckily, I don't think Banette can be that annoying with the move since it has the defensive capabilities of a wet tissue.

Hello everyone. I just had an idea, but it may suck. What would be a name shop like? Or a thread where workers would just provide Pokemon names for free. I can't always come up with a cool name for my Pokemon, especially if I catch it without a warning.

Hmm I was just going through old sz posts when I noticed how much people seem to use their trainer to get past obstacles, I was wondering if there could be a way to level up the trainer's abilities that they need in the sz (reaction time, sneakieness, debate skills) kind of like in spectrobes how your character can fight as well as the spectrobes. dunno if this would work, but hey, why not?

So, I have a legitimate suggestion. Since the Safari Zone is constantly evolving now under the new model, and DL has been sending me updates for it (but I don't see everyone, so I can't pass it on all the time), I propose that we make a sub-forum for the safari zone, where the list is stored, and all updates can be done, ect.

Then we lock it, and we restrict viewing it to those who have ref clearance, so that we know that everyone who needs it has access to it, while we don't have to worry about other people getting in there and complaining that their favorite pokemon isn't there.

The admins aren't gonna wanna give us a private fourth subforum just for the safari zone. An easy alternative is to make our own forum outside of TPM for us to do that -- but that wouldn't be checked nearly as often as the forums proper.

Okay, so I've been toying this idea for a while, but since we have abilities and they have been working rather well, how about one step further and go for natures?
I know that stats have no real hold on ASB, but instead of it increasing stats, a Pokemon begins the battle with, for example, an Adamant nature, then it will have +1 in Attack and -1 for Special Attack. But I'm not sure if it should stack with boosts or losses by other moves to a potential of +/-7, which is what natures technically do.
It would also invoke a bit more strategy and allow the strengths of certain Pokemon to be played, so perhaps anyone using a Shuckle could use a Relaxed nature, as Speed isn't too important.

Now this will add another thing for refs to consider and also remember which nature does which with what stat and if we're going into such precision, some would say, let's see about implementing EVs and IVs.
Also, this is Anime Style Battling and natures have yet to be seen in the anime, so they might not be too useful.

So what do you guys think? And if I put this amount of work into my Media essay due in this week, it would have been done four years ago.

EVs and IVs confuse the shit out of me, and I avoid them like the plague. My knowledge of stats goes as far as "Rare Candy = Bad, Wild Pokemon = Good". Implementing them would be a bad idea IMO.

Well IVs are something you can't change and determine which stats are higher than others. EVs are given by beaten Pokemon (the species depends on the EV given out) and raise stats when you level up, depending on what you killed.

And that's about it. IVs can be 31 at max, whilst EVs can be 255 in each stat, with 510 being the limit.

AND KNOWING IS HALF THE BATTLE.

An interesting suggestion, Rossy, but don't you think that our pokemon are customizable enough?

Natures have always been set in stone, and I think that if we were to implement them here, they'd also be set in stone. Think of the nightmare involved with recording all that, as well as knowing what nature does what.

Next Newsletter, all will be explained-tailored and expanded to help everyone understand the shifts in ASB. Items to be traded for points is being considered, but Natures would be too much... Mainly because natures define a Pokemon, and Anime Style battle keeps the nature of a Pokemon undefined for that sole purpose. Its limiting in a limitless scenario.

Random suggestion: I'm wondering if Pasture Zones could be changed so the whole "Pokemon left unattended vanish after a month" rule is removed? If I'm in the SZ and I want to, say, nab one of Ayeun's Pastured Pogeys, I only have four weeks to do so. If the ref who's covering my adventure posts a round once a week (which is pretty much how often rounds get posted), that gives me a whopping four rounds to find Ayeun's access point, enter her Pasture Zone, find the Pokemon I want and catch it. It's not even remotely feasible. I'm wondering if that's part of the reason why there's been little to no interest in visiting other Pastures. (That and most of us haven't provided access points, which I think we might be more inclined to do if catching Pastured Pokemon were made a little more doable?)

Just a thought.

I've been thinking about this and I think this might be a good idea.
Perhaps we could make a thread that showcases all the ASB move combinations anyone has come up with and may/may not lay claim upon
This of course could include
1) Description of the combo: What moves it consists of, what it looks like
2) perhaps a level of experience might be needed to perform said combo (i.e. a certain number of battles participated in)
3) any special effects that might occur because of the combo.

I might think of more stuff, but for me it's late in the night and I just wanted to post this before I forget. I don't know, I think this is a good idea.

I think a combo list would be tricky as you can more or less combo any move that vaguely work with each other and it's up to the ref's interpretation.
