Hi guys,
Recently I began to have great difficulty getting onto MSN, whenever I try to connect, I am told MSN was unable to connect, showing the cause as error 80072ee7.
Anyway, could someone help me get this fixed, please? I had a laptop crash several days ago, that I hope has nothing to do with this problem.

Thanks Drusilla, I checked the page out, but didn't get very far with figuring out what this problem could be.
Strangely though, it seems to be also preventing me from using Internet Explorer.
Has anyone noticed either of these two problems? I was on Yahoo! Answers, looking to see if anyone has had the same problem, and behold, I'm not the only one, as others have posted on there, trying to get help on their version of the same problem.

Do you have any form of Anti Virus?
Yeah, I have AVG on here.
Could that possibly detect my problem with MSN or Internet Explorer?
Either way, it makes me anxious to if something happened over at Microsoft?

Hmm, well no. But sometimes Anti-Virus/Firewalls tend to have nasty habit of blocking regularly used programs if they suspect something.
I already have AIM, thanks anyway for the link.
But having it doesn't exactly make up for being unable to use MSN or Internet Explorer, not when you have people on MSN that you don't have on AIM, or have difficulty reaching on AIM...'sigh' I think I may have to go to Microsoft one of these times to get some answers, if it ends up being a last resort.

Step 1: Replace IE with Firefox or Chrome.
Step 2: Replace MSN with AIM, Yahoo!, and/or Skype.
Step 3: ???
Step 4: PROFIT!
That still doesn't solve his problem of talking to people who only have MSN accounts.
Replace it with Pidgin or Trillian, and then you'll be able to talk to your MSN friends without using MSN.
Still, neither of those alternatives solves the main problem, which is that something's going on in the computer that's preventing those programs from working. I'd say it's either a firewall misconfiguration, a virus, or a problem with either the Windows registry or a system file (possibly a DLL). While, under normal circumstances, I do recommend other browsers and IM clients over those made by Microsoft, I don't think it's a good idea to ignore a problem which may get worse over time.
Suggestion: check your firewall configuration to make sure it's not blocking those programs. If it isn't, then check your computer for viruses or other malware (preferrably from a Live CD/DVD). If it comes out clean, try using another browser and IM client. If it's a problem with a DLL or registry entry, then other software should work for a while. But Windows has a tendency to degenerate over time, so odds are the problem will eventually get worse. If other programs stop working, then you should think of reinstalling Windows of switching to a different OS. In any case, make sure to back up your important files.

It's 2010, Gabi. Who these days still has JUST MSN?
Blade, please don't cause issues here, I'm still trying to figure this out.
Anyway, according to my brother, who usually is on the other computer here, he is able to get to Internet Explorer without any problems, making me ponder if this problem only affects laptop users? I mean, it makes me curious to if any of the people that I noticed on Yahoo! Answers having the same problem as me use a laptop themselves.
There must be some sort of logic in this matter.
For one thing, this problem seems to also make it difficult to use programs that rely on Internet Explorer to be able to work.

Blade: you'd be surprised.
Kyle: there's no puzzle there. If IE doesn't work, then programs that rely on IE won't work properly either. Because they're relying on something that isn't working. Also, I highly doubt the problem is specific of laptops. If it's not a virus, or even if it is but you're not sharing files with your brother, there's no reason why your brother's computer should have the same problem as yours. Have you tried everything I suggested in my previous post?

Okay, just a few things to mention here, first, the computer my brother uses is the family computer here (so there are times when I use it, too).
As for the problem at hand, Windows Live Messenger isn't being blocked by the firewall, and I'm not sure if it's a virus, being as AVG hasn't found anything suggesting one got on here (if I did have a virus, would my computer notify me?). Right now, it seems like some part of the connection to Internet Explorer, MSN, and any programs that require Internet Explorer working to run smoothly, was disabled or something, being as it seems to only affect Microsoft programs that require an internet connection (unlike programs like Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel).

Have you thought about upgrading it? Or, if it's the most recent version, downgrading? I know that older versions of MSN are still available, if not I have version 7 or 8 lying around somewhere that I could somehow send you.

No, I haven't really thought of upgrading or downgrading MSN.
But it really doesn't matter now, since I downloaded Pidgin (thanks again for telling me about it, Gabi). Despite its lack of some of the things with MSN, it's still working pretty well for me.

Sorry for the double post and the bump, but I think I may have overlooked something that could potentially be the reason why Internet Explorer and related programs haven't been working right.
When I was able to use Internet Explorer on my laptop months ago, I had two working connections, one of which is the one I've been using through the wireless router (and still using), and the other one is the Local Area Connection.
So, I've come to the conclusion that the problem may have to do with the Local Area Connection not currently working on my laptop, is there any way to re-direct Internet Explorer so that it uses the connection from the router instead (basically, so that it and Firefox both use the same connection, and not different connections)?
If only I had thought of the Local Area Connection thing a couple of months ago...now I'm fairly certain my inability to use Internet Explorer on my laptop has something to do with that connection.

Last I checked Local Area Connection should be working if you're using the Wireless, the only way the connection ISN'T working is if the connection is enabled, now if you enabled it and it still isn't working then there's gotta be a reason it isn't.
Alright guys, I have another update on the situation.
I've finally got Internet Explorer working again after recently downloading and installing Internet Explorer 9, however, I've found I still cannot use Windows Live Messenger, might it be of help for me to re-download Windows Live Messenger?

I say to go ahead and re-install it simply on the grounds that you can't possibly break it any more than it is already.
Then again, I'm not the TPM tech support guy, so my advice may be less credible than Telume's.
