    Default Single Type Pokemon Playthroughs!!

Ive been thinking and I really wanna start doing playthroughs using only one type. ANyone wanna give it a go with me?

    Example:

I want to playthrough with only... Electric types.

    then later i got

    and

    [img]http://www.pokestadium.com/pokemon/s...ckwhite/81.png[/img]

and then i playthrough with those pokemon

    Types To Be Taken:
    Fire
    Water
    Grass
    Electric
    Ice
    Psychic
    Dark
    Normal
    Flying
    Fighting
    Rock
    Ground
    Steel
    Bug
    Poison

I might do this eventually. I'm planning to restart my SoulSilver sometime soon. Before I do, though, I'm working on transferring tons of pokémon onto Platinum. Pokémon games, sadly, have recently been finding ways to make it a worse and worse idea to do a restart. The WiFi events are a prime example, but the PokéWalker is another; I only decided to go with the restart after I convinced myself I would most likely never get enough Pokéwalker Watts to access Quiet Cave anyway.

All right, I'm now ready to get this train wreck started! I've selected Bug, and chosen Totodile as my starter until i catch a Weedle. This Totodile will also be handling all of my Water-type HMs. I haven't quite figured out yet what I'm doing HM-wise (why are there so few pokémon who can learn Fly and also learn more than one or two other useful out-of-battle moves?) but I guess I'll let that be part of the fun this time.

    Name: Seth
    Type: Bug

    Current team (just started):
    L5 Totodile
    Scratch, Leer

I'm doing a Dark type runthrough of Pokemon White right now, with a Lepardas, a Zorua, a Deino, a Pawniard, a Vullaby and a Scraggy. And I've already used a Flying type team for Pokemon Pearl. Yeah, coincidence!

I can't really recommend Ghost in this game. My Ghost team worked fine in Pearl Version, but in Heart/Soul you're limited to just Gastly for the first four Badges, and limited to just Gastly and Misdreavus until after the Elite Four.

Pory.....why do you need access to Quiet Cave? I do not know how many steps are needed but I'm pretty sure if I left my Walker in my bag for a week, I'd get the amount of steps necessary :/ Looove me some NYC trains

This is probably going to sound like a guy seeking a loophole, but do Pokémon bred from other games and transferred to the game being played through count towards this effort? For example, if I take Normal-Type, can I transfer a Munchlax I bred on another game and count it towards the single-type team?

Spiritomb. And to access Quiet Cave you need to collect 100,000 Watts. I'd imagine that'll take a while even with the Big Apple's transit system helping you.

...holy hell. Just a few minutes after I posted that, I logged onto the Global Terminal in Platinum and discovered that someone had accepted my offer of a Zapdos in trade for Spiritomb, which made me happy until I realized...

    ...this is Cynthia's Spiritomb.
Seriously, it's a L58 female Spiritomb who knows Dark Pulse, Psychic, Silver Wind and Shadow Ball, was caught by a Master Ball and is listed as having been met at L58 in Pokémon League. I think this "ANTOINE" used a Game Shark code that makes trainers' pokémon catchable.
I...I'm not sure what to do with this thing.

Oh question. I never seemed to be able to get more than 99,999 steps a day. Does the 100,000 watts need to be in a day cause if not...I might already have the damn thing-I just havent USED the Pokewalker in a godawful long time...I left it in my bag for ...what...5 months now.

Where the hell is it ?

The 100,000 Watts must be collected in your Heart/Soul game by transferring them there from the Pokéwalker. They do not all have to be gathered in a single Stroll. That said, if you've got a thriving Spiritomb colony in Diamond I doubt you have much use for Quiet Cave anyway...let's see, what else is the place good for...Munchlax, Feebas...I suppose having Chingling in Group B instead of Group A might be a reason to go if one doesn't have any of the Sinnoh-set games...ooh, if you walk far enough you might rarely find Hyper Beam TMs with the Dowsing machine.

Oh you gotta transfer them. Oh yeah. Havent played that set in a while. Dunno how many I have stockpiled, but it's not that. Well maybe now in 10 days, I'll open it up :O.

Hrm, I did so much leg work in Platinum I secured most everything, and well, Winners Road has the main reason I got the Pokewalker, I was direly wanting Selfdestruct Snorlax and Bounce Gyarados.

    Anyway, back on topic!
    Name: Seth
    Type: Bug

I got the Egg from Mr. Pokémon, battled the Rival, and then told the cop in New Bark that his name was Exeter (since I'm playing a Bug theme, I named him in reference to exterminators.) After that, I finally got my hands on some Pokéballs, and headed to Route 30 where I caught a Weedle.

I crash-raised Weedle in Route 29 for a while, until I felt comfortable raising it on its own. During this process I caught a Sentret that I named "Temp. HMer" for obvious reasons (I haven't nicknamed anyone else. I should probably get the Name Rater to give Totodile an HMer-riffic name, but I couldn't come up with names I was happy with for my planned Bug-type battlers.) When Weedle evolved into Kakuna, I brought it back to Route 30 and challenged Youngster Joey, and won more easily than I'd feared. I then went on to defeat all of the other trainers on Routes 30 and 31, snagging Bug Catcher Wade's phone number in the process...and not snagging Joey's.

As I write this, I'm about to scale Sprout Tower...I ought to have a Beedrill by the time I reach the top.

    Team:

    L9
    Poison Sting, String Shot, Harden

    L10
    Scratch, Leer, Water Gun, Rage

    Temp. HMer L3
    Scratch, Foresight

Well, I started off with Totodile, as a good HM slave. Raised it a bit, got the egg, pokeballs, yadayada. Then went up to Dark Cave and caught myself a Zubat (mind you I couldn't catch spinarak as it was daytime), well actually I catched about 20 before I got the one I wanted. Spent all of my money on whisky and be- on pokeballs. Raised it - which was quite hard at first - cleared out sprouttower and finished off Falker, obtaining the Roost TM for my Zubat.

Went south to the pokemoncenter on Route 32 and picked up the old rod. This time, I got lucky and only had to catch four Tentacool before I got a good one. Yup, Tentacool is on the team! Trained it up (slow!!) in Union Cave and especially route 33, which contains only pokemon that give Speed EV's. Now I'm not the one to EV train for an ingame team, but this was to much of an opportunity to ignore. He reached l.19 and learned Bubblebeam, which meant I could battle with it. Toxic spikes is gonna be fun!

Slowpoke Well was easy smeasy with new Tentacool, which is why I pummeled the gym and my rival all in one go. Poor Bugsy, it was pretty tight though. Gave Zubat his U-turn TM (need something against Psychics, plus it fits nicely with Crobats speed and scout-potential; or in combination with Toxic Spikes).

Saved in Ilex Forest after freeing the Farfetch'd. Think I'm gonna update again soon.

    Team:

    Zubat (l.21) [Lonely] Wing Attack | Bite | U-turn | Roost
Tentacool (l.21) [Mild] Bubblebeam | Acid | Toxic Spikes | Supersonic

I'll reserve steel for now, I can't start playing because I've lost my DS charger. Oh yeah, since I picked a type with few pokemon that are spread quite a bit, could I trade over an Aron to get me started?

It's possible to get a Steel-type fairly early, without trading in a Steel-type from another game. Just catch Onix in Union Cave, trade it to another game, give it a Metal Coat in that other game and trade it back.

So, completed Ilex Forest and ran into Goldenrod all up to National Park, trying to avoid as much trainers as possible. Caught myself about 30 Nidoran before I decided which one to use, then trained him up up up! Gave it Headbutt and Dig to increase it's type-coverage and a Quick Claw, although he's not that slow, he's the slowest of my team and I have no better options right now.

Meanwhile, Zubat evolved into Golbat and after two more levels it reached it's final form as a Crobat. A speedy, strong yet surprisingly sturdy fucker. That was time to take on Whitney. Cleared out the entire Gym with double kick, including the leader, so staying in Goldenrod would be pointless.

Ecruteak brought along some nice exp. Trained Tentacool now, giving it the new Surf HM I recently aquired for absolute wreckage. Finished off rival, gym and morty with it (although Crobat defeated Gengar).

Some more training on the way to Olivine, and then used the Lighthouse as a boost to get Tentacool to level 33 where it learned Poison Jab, now he was ready to evolve. Bam, killer jellyfish, love it. Saved after clearing lighthouse. Ready for the sea-trip and chubby chuck

    Team:

    (l.28)
    [Lonely] Pluck | Bite | U-turn | Roost

You said yourself that you're limited to the original 252 pokemon, so surely unlocking Hoenn and Sinnoh Pokemon wouldn't be important?

Well, not if they're in the game.. Without trading.

Still, according to DCM you can trade in this challenge, so go nuts.

So I found my DS charger, hoping to trade my pokemon from my old Soul Silver game to my chip. When I restarted the game I wasn't concerntrating, I was too busy watching TV to realise that it was in fact my chipped Diamond file that I was deleting instead of my Soul Silver file... All of the pokemon I raised on it were now gone. xD Thank god I didn't make the same mistake with my actual game ^^; Anyway after loading the real diamond game, I went to hatch an Aron egg. That egg turned out to be a shiny. So, I now have a shiny Aron. Yeah, coincidences are awesome! I gave it an earthquake TM to get me going, and got ready to start Soul Silver again.

I started with a Cyndaquil because the last two playthroughs I started with Chikorita and Totodile, (poor Feraligator was deleted when I deleted my chipped Diamond TT.TT) so I mixed it up and chose a cute 'lil Cyndaquil. After naming it Cynder, I headed all the way to Mr. Pokemon's house. Oh yeah, I had to listen to that impatient old man's boring speech on what pokemon centers are. I came back, kicked Silver's ass, you get the point.

Now I'm working on training the level 3 Onix I got from the guy who wants a Bellsprout before I evolve it rediculously early to keep in with my type theme.

    Current team:

    Daiyamondo the Aron: Level 11
Rocky the Onix: Level 7 (Stupid nickname came with it >.<)

Good luck with Rocky. I tried that in my original Silver Version Steel monotype, and having a disobedient Outsider annoyed me so much that, when I restarted the monotype for an unrelated reason, I ignored Rocky and waited until Union Cave to catch my own Onix instead.

    Name: Seth
    Type: Bug

I climbed Sprout Tower, Kakuna evolving into Beedrill along the way, and then challenged Elder Li (I liked it better when he was Sage Li. The pun was more dignified.) The standard Bellsprout was very quickly toast, and then Li sent out his Hoothoot, Beedrill used Fury Attack...and missed. Hoothoot used Hypnosis and didn't miss. And since Awakenings aren't obtainable at this point in the game, and I didn't have any other bugs, I could do nothing but watch as Hoothoot Pecked Beedrill to death over the next few turns.

I reverted to save, tried again, and used Harden several times while Li's Bellsprout was out. It didn't matter, though, because this time Beedrill hit with Fury Attack, scored five hits and decked out Hoothoot before it could act. Still, knowing how unreliable Fury Attack was, I decided to hold off on trying my luck at the Gym until I'd trained Beedrill more. I raised it in Route 32 until it learned Focus Energy, then tried the Gym. I beat the two lesser Gym Trainers without much fuss, but was almost completely useless against Falkner's high-defense, Gusting, Roosting Pidgeotto.

Again, I lost and reverted to save, and went back to training. This time I didn't come back until I'd learned Twineedle. The attack wasn't much more damaging to Pidgeotto than Fury Attack, but it was reliable, and my higher level gave me higher defensive stats that let me stand up to Gust better. I won the Badge.

After that, I headed down Route 32, through Union Cave and across Route 33, battling all the trainers. I didn't get any more Pokégear numbers; I knew I wouldn't want Fisherman Ralph's number because he's a pain to get to compared to most other Pokégear trainers, but I also didn't get Liz's or Anthony's because I wasn't sure whether I would want them or not, and of course you can't delete numbers once you have them. Now, I'm about to enter Azalea...and looking forward to reaching Ilex, because I just walked right past the place where my next battler can be found, and only in Ilex will I get the means to encounter it.

I completed Sprout Tower and the first gym with relative ease, the only trouble I had at all was with that damn Pigeotto using Roost constantly. I just kept on making Rocky use Screech until it's defense was as low as possible and used Tackle. I made sure to not train Rocky above level ten before the gym so that I had an obedient pokemon. (That Aron was really being a pain because I forgot about the level 10 limit until the first gym >.>)

Headed through Union Cave after training Rocky some more, and now I'm in the Slowpoke Well beating all of the stupid Rockets. After that I'll go out of the cave and find myself a Pineco in one of the trees.

I cleared out Slowpoke Well with little trouble, then beat Exeter again and got the Cut HM from the Charcoal Man's assistant. Needing the Hive Badge to be able to use it, I went to meet Bugsy. Togepi's Egg hatched just as I was about to walk through the Gym's front door, making me think I was about to meet an NPC or something.

Once again, I found myself losing to the Gym Leader the first time and winning the second, and once again I was relying on Fury Attack the first time, and relying on Twineedle against a Flying-type the second. The lesson to be learned here is that Fury Attack is a horrible move.

With the Badge in hand, I taught Temp. HMer Cut, then trekked through Ilex to find the Headbutt Tutor. I gave Temp. HMer Headbutt as well, and then went back to Azalea Town, found the Headbutt Tree and caught a Heracross.

Heracross was level 3, so I spent a fair amount of time raising it in Ilex. During that time, I found and caught a Paras, and taught it Cut, Rock Smash and Flash (looking back, I never actually needed the Sentret, although it did save me the trouble of having to find Paras before I could use Cut. Like I said, I didn't fully think the HMers through before starting the monotype.)

When Heracross reached L10, I decided to move on to Route 34, after depositing some dead weight in Bill's PC. I was expecting to do some crash raising with Beedrill, but Heracross proved better able to take on Route 34's trainers than I expected. It did most of the work. I arrived in Goldenrod City, got the Radio Card and the Bike, and renamed Totodile with a name reflecting its role as bearer of Water-type HMs.

After that, I headed north toward the National Park. I'll be hanging around there for a while...I've got my eye on not one, but two pokémon that I'll only be able to find during the Bug-Catching Contests!

Arrived in Cainwood, dropped by crazy doctor for amphy-medicine and immediately headed towards the gym. As Crobat was the lowest in level at that point, it was his time to shine and what better place than a fighting gym. Not really a story to tell here, as you could probably guess. Came out victorious and took the Fly HM. Did the basic shit in the Safari Zone and headed back towards the Lighthouse.

After recovering, giving amphy the meds and talking to the two 'trainers' in Olivine Gym, it was ready for Jasmine. Nidorino took out both Magnemites with Dig and give Steelix a run for it's money, before a Hyper potion and Iron Tail did him in. Out came Tenta and put him down with one Surf. My team is coming along nicely.

After that, I headed towards Mt.Mortar, explored that for a while and ended up in Mahogany Town. Time for a new pokemon, since I was getting bored. Being a Saturday allowed me pick up a Venonat in the Bug Catching Contest, which I bred and picked one of the hatchings as my new protoge. Venonat itself is pretty weak, and it took a while before his sp.atk nature took a shine, but as soon as he learned Psybeam he could take on a foe. Leveled him up in Union Cave, Lake of Rage, and Mahogany Hideout. Before I knew it, he was ready to evolve. Now I got myself a new powerhorse, one with special attacks. Taught it Silverwind upon evolution and headed out to Gym. Piece of cake there, and cleared out Goldenrod afterwards. With Team Rocket out of the picture again I could hurry to Blackthorn.

Clair would've given me quite the trouble if it wasn't for Toxic Spikes. Took the intimidate hit with Crobat and used U-turn. Tenta set up Toxic Spikes twice and finished Gyarados with Poison Jab. Then it ended up being a very close match between Kingdra and Tenta (after my other pokemon took out the dragonairs). Kingdra truly is a beast.

Gained my masterball after the little Dragon's Den crap, butchered the Kimono Girls and went to catch Ho-Oh. After that, I flew to Newbark and saved there. Ready for some league-ass.

    EDIT: Live, from Indigo Stadium:

Will: For my league journey I decided to open up with Crobat, as a scout (U-turn) and potential status inducer (Poison Fang). Although Psychic types had an advantage here, they also had a weakness to U-turn. Opening up, Xatu. Psychic/Flying, crap. Pluck! Then U-turn, hammered him with Signalbeam from Venomoth. Signalbeamed Jynx, Psychic back, moth down. Crap =/ U-turn bitch, kills everyone.

Koga:: Pluck, pluck! Ariados and moth down. Surf on weak special defense Forretress, then EQ on Muk and Sleeppowder+Psybeam on Crobat. Now who's the superior ninja

Bruno: Pluck! Counter! NO! Crobat down. Psymoth keeps owning with sleeppowder, dead Bruno.

Karen: She required a tactical switch from Crobat to Nido as a lead. Cuz I recently installed Focus Blast on my powerhorse Two of those and umby was down. Then followed up with an EQ-death for her Houndoom and a Poison Jab kill for Murky. Pluck on Plume and Shadowclaw on Gengy. I expected more.

Lance: Having this poison monotype (and not wanting to choose Arbok, Muk or Weezing for a change, hating Plume/Victreebell as not-real-poisons) severly limited my options for my team. This however increased the challenge aspect of this monotype, so I was really curious for beating Lance. My levels were equal to his (46-ish), but I had installed Bilzzard on Tenta as a powerwhip. Not sure it would be enough, though, so let's see. Opening up with Tenta and his Clear Body ability. My Toxic Spikes strategy was gonna be useless here since all of his pokemon are of the flying type. Bugger, ok brute force then! Poison Jab vs. Waterfall battle with Gyarados which I won, then Blizzard hit thrice in a row killing his first two draggys and then redding his uber-one, which triggered Sitrus Berry into half HP. Poison Jab from Nido didn't finish it, triggering Full Restore Some more Poison jabs took it down to red, and when Nido fell, Moth took it down with Sludgebomb. Had to revive my Tenta to take care of his Aerodacytl and Charizard, though. I won

Beat all of the rockets with ease; then headed into Ilex forest to catch mahself a Pineco. Took a while because of gaddamn Selfdestruct, but ended up catching one at level 7. Levelled it for a while until Togepi hatched, showed him to Elm, headed back, yadda yadda yadda... Bugsy was almost too easy to beat; but Silver proved a real problem. Croconaw was literally EATING my team with Water Gun, since all of them but Pineco (who is CRAP at the moment, I'm contemplating getting rid of it) are weak to it ATM. Killed it in the end just about by taking the majority of it's health with Selfdestruct, and sending in Rocky to finish it with a Rock Tomb. Gastly and Zubat gave me no trouble whatsoever, Zubat was a little annoying with Supersonic though.

Helped the Farfetch'd guy out, got through Ilex forest and trained Pineco some more. He's not quite as bad now he has Take Down, but I'm still gonna get rid of him most likely. Changed the date on my DS to catch a Scyther, and I actually love the thing. It literally trained itself Technician FTW.

Now I'm just training a bit until I'm ready to beat Whitney, that Miltank always seems to give me trouble on every other playthrough I've done. Shouldn't be too bad with Rocky though, he's a beast! (On a side note, I just boxed Pineco. Meh, he just wasn't working out.)

Wait, Toxic Spikes is a Poison-type move, not a Ground one. It should work fine, shouldn't it?

Well, yeah, collected all the badges after spending like 40.00 hours in Battle Factory, getting the points for my much needed TM's. I still need a Stone Edge, but I'm done with factory (or so I keep saying..) Fuck voltorb flip, though. Couldn't get Swordsdance, nor thunderbolt TM

Defeated the updated league with this team. So far, Drapion has been the best member of the team. His great attack and speed combined with insane defense make it a nasty pokemon. Sniper is evil. Roserade is shit for now, as I trained against the league (old league) for a while and she's pretty useless there. With an updated (but still bad for Roserade) league, it doesn't look better.

Now I need to grind for Red, which I don't really feel like doing. Might do it, later.

At the time I made my last post, I had only half an hour left of Saturday. After picking up Kenya the Spearow from the gate guard, I hustled to the National Park and managed to get into Saturday's Bug-Catching Contest, where I caught a Butterfree. (I didn't even place in the contest. Some guy with a Weedle beat me, although first and second place went to a Pinsir and Scyther, respectively.)
I now had two full days to wait before I could compete in another Bug-Catching Contest on Tuesday, so I spent that time training my new Butterfree and exploring the National Park while it wasn't holding a Contest. I quickly discovered that Sleep Powder + CompoundEyes = beastly. When Butterfree caught up to Heracross on level, I started training both evenly, and when I finished battling trainers in the area, Heracross learned Brick Break.
With a great Fighting-type attack in my arsenal, I went back to Goldenrod City and cleared the Gym. Finally, a Gym Leader I was able to beat on my first try! Miltank (the only pokémon in the Gym who lasted long enough to act) liked using Stomp, and was faster than Heracross, so I could have had trouble with it, but luckily Heracross never flinched.
The Plain Badge let me obtain the SquirtBottle, and the SquirtBottle let me battle that pesky Sudowoodo. I wound up catching it, for no real reason, and then I went back to the Violet City area and rid myself of Kenya.
When Tuesday rolled around, I returned to the National Park and this time bagged a Scyther, a good fifteen minutes into the twenty-minute catching time. I placed third. The winner caught a Kakuna. I hate these contests.
I headed north, raising Scyther along the way, and soon reached Ecruteak City, where I saved the Kimono Girl from harassment and got HM 3. I also picked up the Dowsing Machine, and that set me on a round trip across everywhere I'd already been to find hidden items. Now that I'm done with that, I suppose it's time to beat Morty so I can use this HM...
