Default Grey v. Cue (Ref: Oslo)

Alright, I'm battle hungry. And for whatever reason, Crown seems to've disappeared completely, so I'm setting up an open invitation for battle.

    TERMS:
    2-on-2.
    DQ: 1 week.
    Abilities: On.
Banned Moves: Attract, Destiny Bond, Direct Healing, Pain Split, Toxic.

I'll let the challenger or the ref decide the arena, since I can't be bothered to do it yet.

That said, I'm going to be using Masamune:

    MASAMUNE

Why does no one want to ref us? Sadface...

Safeguard immediately to avoid the burn, then use Glare. Finally, try out a Leaf Storm!

    ‡ Pre-Round ‡

    ‡ Round 1 ‡

G’day, sports fans! Welcome to this lovely football field in the middle of nowhere which will serve as the arena for a rough-and-tumble rumpus between two fiery fighters: Greyfox, E4 member known by all, will be facing off against Cueball who has proven to be a quite competent battlers. The two battlers stand on either side of this gorgeous field as they summon their Pokemon into the battle. Grey opts for a grass snake on legs while Cueball, on the other hand, releases a waddling flame duck. Let’s get this show on the road!

Ashes kicks off the battle by burping out a guttering blue flame that drifts lazily across the field. Masamune, however, won’t have any of this and tosses up a silvery energy field which drapes itself around her entire body. The Will-O-Wisp bursts against its target into scattered embers, rendered useless thanks to Masamune’s Safeguard. Ashes folds her arms and sticks out her tongue. Rude!

    Masamune: <-4 EP; Sgd>
    Ashes: <-4 EP>

With her Will-O-Wisp rendered ineffective, Ashes sprints across the field and swings a flaming fist at her unsuspecting opponent. Masamune takes the fist to the gut and tumbles down to the ground hard. With the wind now knocked out of her, there’s not much Masamune can do while she struggles to regain her breath besides Glare furiously at Ashes… but even that seems to bear some sort of effect. The menacing look causes Ashes’s full body to lock up with Paralysis.

    Masamune: <-14 HP; -4 EP>
    Ashes: <-6 EP; Par>

Ashes manages to circumvent her regrettable status as she performs a little spin on the spot, creating three chipper Magby clones to keep her company. Masamune doesn’t much care for these odds and whips up a blistering storm replete with jagged, cutting leaves. The Leaf Storm swirls toward the Magby posse and, due to its broad circumference, manages to capture all four within its harrowing eye. The clones vanish as leaves slice into them while Ashes gets all nicked up, but her fiery frame keeps the damage (relatively) at a minimum.

Suddenly, the most curious effect occurs: despite the massive amounts of energy required to perform the attack, Masamune finds her stats taking a turn for the better. What a Contrary little Snivy she is!

    Masamune: <-12 EP; +2 SpA>
    Ashes: <-8 HP; -4 EP; 0 clones>

    ‡ Pre-Round ‡

    ‡ Round 2 ‡

As the next round begins, Ashes spews out a crackling trail of red-gold flames that ripples like a hot streamer through the air. Masamune does the best to brace herself against the heat, but man, those flames hurt! When at last the Flamethrower subsides, Masamune locks eyes with her target and tries to use her skills of seduction to reduce the power of Ashes’s ranged attacks, but the move fails on account of how Ashes doesn’t swing that way.

    Masamune: <-17 HP; -4 EP>
    Ashes: <-8 EP>

Ashes now vanishes on the spot, leaving Masamune to blink in confusion. Where could that pesky Magby have gone? The answer comes quickly enough as Ashes reappears behind her and begins swatting away with a few swipes of Dark energy. Masamune growls and commands a mighty Twister to howl down the football field, scooping up Ashes within its swirling vortex before depositing him somewhere around the ten yard line.

    Masamune: <-6 HP; -2 EP>
    Ashes: <-8 HP; -4 EP>

Ashes starts sprinting back to the center of the field to cut loose with a blistering Fire Punch, but Paralysis kicks in and locks up her body, leaving her in a state of vulnerability. Masamune whistles as she traipses forth toward her opponent and, with a burst of vivid purple energy, she sends Ashes tumbling backwards. Well, Poison-type Hidden Power is better than some other things, I suppose!

    Masamune: <-5 EP>
    Ashes: <-11 HP; Can’t move!>

    ‡ Pre-Round ‡

    ‡ Round 3 ‡

The next round gets off to a fiery start as Ashes tries to inflict a little flaming misery on her opponent. She dashes toward Masamune with her fist raised and takes a swing, but Masamune, ever the agile little Snivy, does a wicked aerial leap and completely avoids the move. She lands in a crouching position and does a quick spin, slashing away at the Magby with her tail. Masamune growls.

    Masamune: <-4 EP>
    Ashes: <-6 HP; -6 EP>

Ashes decides to inflict a little pain on her opponent in a different way. She begins hacking up some nauseous, steaming goo from her stomach but two sharp blasts from my handy-dandy reffing whistle put an end to that tactic. Mind the rules! Masamune giggles and spits out a tiny seed which plants itself firmly upon Masamune’s right shoulder. It emits a soft green glow.

    Masamune: <-4 EP>
    Ashes: <LSd>

As Paralysis rears its ugly head, Ashes has no choice but to look on helplessly while her opponent delivers her next move. Masamune begins performing a Toxic attack, but another two whistle blasts stops the Snivy cold. Jeepers, people! Banned moves! Commit ‘em to memory!

    Masamune: <...>
    Ashes: <Can't move!>

The Leech Seed drains a little health from Ashes <-3 HP> and restores Masamune's just a little bit <+3 HP>. The latter Pokemon's Safeguard fades as well.

    ‡ Pre-Round ‡

    ‡ Round 4 ‡

As the next round begins, Masamune spits some sticky, bubbling liquid all over her opponent. The goo sizzles against Ashes’s fiery frame and seems to lower the Magby’s body temperature quite a bit. However, though she may no longer have the same Flame Body she did a few moments prior, she can still kick out one hell of a Fire Blast and demonstrates this feat by roasting Masamune alive with a crackling orange ideogram.

    Masamune: <-20 HP; -4 EP>
Ashes: <-10 EP; Flame Body negated>

Masamune now sprints toward her foe and does another impressive aerial leap, landing deftly while lashing out with her tail. Ashes grimaces and tries to retaliates, but Paralysis does its thang again. Geez, that’s annoying!

    Masamune: <-4 EP>
    Ashes: <-6 HP; Can’t move!>

Masamune now resorts to a second Leaf Storm. As the leaves swirl and dive through the air, successfully slicing up Ashes more than a little, the Snivy’s stats increase further. Ashes pouts. Grass-type moves aren’t supposed to hurt Magbys that much! To retaliate, the Magby lashes out with another flaming punch, knocking Masamune back a little while leaving a nasty Burn in the process. This boosts Ashes's spirits quite a bit.

    Masamune: <-14 HP; -12 EP; +2 SpA; Brn>
    Ashes: <-12 HP; -6 EP>

Ashes loses a little health to the Leech Seed <-3 HP> while Masamune takes a little back <+3 HP>. Masamune's Burn, however, negates that health gain <-3 HP> much to the Snivy's frustration.

    ‡ Pre-Round ‡

    ‡ Round 5 ‡

Ashes goes rigid with Paralysis for perhaps the ten thousandth time this match and thus cannot muster much of a defence against Masamune’s incoming attack, another wicked aerial leap followed by a quick swipe. Wincing, Ashes merely bides her time and images the world of hurt she’s going to plunge Masamune into once Paralysis lets up… oh ho, it’s gonna be golden…

    Masamune: <-4 EP>
    Ashes: <-6 HP; Can’t move!>

Masamune starts glistening with a peculiar silver light as Ashes delivers her next attack, a crackling assault of orange flames. However, as the Snivy gets roasted, she somehow manages to channel all that heat and raw might into an attack of her own. She unleashes the Mirror Coat as a concentrated burst of sparkling energy that throws Ashes back a good ten feet. Yikes! That snake packs quite a punch!

    Masamune: <-15 HP; -8 EP>
    Ashes: <-29 HP; -8 EP>

Masamune now prepares another Mirror Coat, but it looks to be in vain. Vibrant swells of fiery energy consume Ashes’s little frame and she unleashes all that piss and vinegar in one absurdly powerful Overheat. When the blinding surges of orange and yellow go dim, the outcome becomes immediately clear. Scorched and seared, Masamune lies on the field unmoving. Though tired, Ashes nonetheless throws up her arms in victory.

    Masamune: <-17 HP>
    Ashes: <-12 EP; -2 SpA>

    ‡ Round 6 ‡

Though Masamune put up a brave effort against Cueball’s Magby, it’s time for her to return to her Pokeball as Grey makes his next and final selection. He ultimately releases a many-pointed sea star which waddles into play with a high-pitched trill. Ashes gulps, knowing that Fire-types don’t exactly stand the best track record against seafaring Pogeys, but she decides not to throw in the towel just yet and raises a fist instead. It begins to crepitate with electric current; however, before she can put it to good use, Libra cuts loose with a cascade of salinized water. The foaming burst overwhelms Ashes and the Magby goes down. When at last the water clears, Ashes lies rigid and carries the hanging odour of a Red Lobster. So, uh, at least it's not all bad?

    ‡ Pre-Round ‡

    ‡ Round 7 ‡

With a flash of red light, Ashes is sucked back into her Pokeball and Cueball must now call forth a new Pokemon to take on Grey’s Starmie. After a moment, Cueball decides on just the Pokemon to do it: a widdle booger bear which waddles into play. D’aww! Libra looks around and finds a discarded football off to the side of the field. She grabs it and plops it down right in front of her, using a bit of hocus pocus to impregnate it with health. Ice Cube lashes out with a sudden Grass Knot, but the strength of the attack isn’t quite enough to break the Substitute. Darn!

    Libra: <-20 HP; -4 EP; Sub: 8 HP>
    Ice Cube: <-6 EP>

Libra begins to sparkle with electric current as she unleashes a Thunder Wave at her foe. The electricity sizzles and sets Ice Cube’s fur on end, inducing Paralysis. The bear tries to retaliate with a Yawn, but the little puff of air merely bursts against Libra’s football Substitute without bearing any ill effect on the Starmie itself.

    Libra: <-4 EP; Sub: 8 HP>
    Ice Cube: <-4 EP; Par>

Libra now fires off an iridescent beam from her central core, throwing the baby polar bear back quite a ways. Not presently encumbered by the effects of Paralysis, Ice Cube manages to fire off a blue-white beam of frigid energy at her foe. However, given Libra’s typing, the move’s effects on the Substitute are minimal.

    Libra: <-5 EP; Sub: 2 HP>
    Ice Cube : <-11 HP; -8 EP>

    ‡ Pre-Round ‡

    ‡ Round 8 ‡

Libra’s cherry-red core begins to glow as a flat barricade comprised entirely of golden light materializes in front of her. As Libra stands confidently behind the shimmering Light Screen, Ice Cube goes for a second Yawn, producing a wee blue cloud. The little puff of air drifts lazily across the field and bursts against the football Substitute. Methinks this little polar bear is gonna have to diversify her tactics a little, yes?

    Libra: <-4 EP; LSn; Sub: 2 HP>
    Ice Cube: <-4 EP>

Libra unleashes another attack from her core, this time a forking beam of ice, electricity and fire. These varying elements all collide with Ice Cube, knocking the Cubchoo onto her rump. She retaliates with a Grass Knot and, as the little shoots, wriggle up through the earth, they latch onto Libra’s football. With a tug, they successfully burst the football, causing it to deflate. And with that, Libra’s all on her own.

    Libra: <-6 EP; Sub: 0 HP>
    Ice Cube: <-8 HP; -7 EP>

Paralysis locks up Ice Cube’s joints, causing him to suffer a fate known very well by poor Ashes just a few rounds ago. Immobile and entirely at Libra’s mercy, Ice Cube looks on as Libra lets her have it with a powerful beam of jeweled energy. The Rock-type attack deals a hefty bit of damage, throwing Ice Cube back to the center line. Her little drippy booger begins to ripple as Ice Cube’s whole body starts to quiver with fear. That freaky star thing is friggin’ scary!

    ‡ Round 9 ‡

Libra’s core gleams in the sunlight as the Starmie performs a Camouflage attack, causing all of its body save for that central ruby to vanish. Ice Cube squints, trying to make out the floating gemstone, but it’s tricky from this distance. She summons some grassy shoots to poke up out of the soil and latch onto Libra, but they miss altogether. Friggin’ Camouflage!

    Libra: <-4 EP; Cam>
    Ice Cube: <-7 EP>

Another mighty Power Gem throws Ice Cube back even further. Jeepers, can’t a little booger bear catch a break? Not banking on missing again thanks to that stupid Camouflage, Ice Cube trudges right up toward Libra and takes a nasty bite out of the gemstone. The Camouflage flickers a little as Libra takes damage but ultimately holds up. Once finished, Ice Cube spits out the Starmie and folds her arms. Serves you right!

    Libra: <-12 HP; -5 EP>
    Ice Cube: <-11 HP; -6 EP>

Miraculously, Ice Cube is not locked up by Paralysis this round whatsoever and thus is free to perform a Double Team to increase her chance of evasion. Libra, however, seems entirely unimpressed by this tactic and merely fires off a barrage of gleaming stars that hone in on the real Ice Cube with pinpoint precision. As a result, the clones vanish from existence. Yeah, some things simply work best as surprise tactics.

With that, Libra’s Light Screen flickers away.

Minimize, Tri-Attack, Flash Cannon. Swift away any clones.

    ‡ Round 10 ‡

The next round begins on a particularly bizarre note: Libra, still no more than a hovering gemstone, begins to shrink in size. If she was difficult to see before, she’s almost impossible to make out and Ice Cube scratches her head as she begins to wonder how she’s supposed to strike that itty-bitty almost-entire-invisible sea star. Fortunately, her dilemma is resolved for her. Paralysis strikes, ridding her of the burden of having to attack at all.

    Libra: <-4 EP; +1 Eva>
    Ice Cube: <Can’t move!>

Tiny it may be, Libra is still fully capable of launching a powerful attack or two and demonstrates this with a Tri Attack. The triple beams knock poor Ice Cube onto her rump, eliciting a pained whine from the Cubchoo. The poor girl just fell below the halfway mark and knows she’s going to have to try harder if she wants to come out on top. Arms raised, the Chill Pokemon calls forth a big angry storm of snow and ice to do her bidding. The broad scope of the storm encompasses Libra without any difficulty; however, given its typing, it feels really more like a gentle snowfall to Libra than an actual Blizzard.

    Libra: <-7 HP; -6 EP>
    Ice Cube: <-8 HP; -10 EP>

Libra unleashes her next attack, a ripping wave of silver energy. The Flash Cannon throws Ice Cube backward quite a ways and even carries the happy bonus of lowering the polar bear’s Special Defence a hair. Ice Cube retaliates with a Crunch, but given Libra’s tiny size and near-invisibility, he only manages to just barely catch her by the skin of his teeth and the attack is consequentially weakened a good deal. However, that doesn’t stop it from lowering Libra’s Defence. Gee willickers! Stats are dropping like mad!

Flickering like a television on the fritz, wee widdle Libra slowly comes back into full view as her Camouflage is lifted.

    Ice Cube : <-12 HP; -6 EP; -1 SpD>

    ‡ Pre-Round ‡

    ‡ Round 11 ‡

As the next round begins, Libra takes advantage of her foe’s subpar Defence stat by firing off another lustrous flash of light. The Flash Cannon causes Ice Cube to double over in pain, but the Cubchoo zips forward and snatches up the wee Starmie in a powerful Crunch. As his fangs bear down upon the Mysterious Pokemon, she lets out a shriek. Who knew booger bears packed such a fierce bite?

    Libra: <-14 HP; -6 EP>
    Ice Cube: <-14 HP; -6 EP>

Libra lets fly the next Flash Cannon to roughly the same effect as the last. This time, rather than launching a counter-attack, Ice Cube merely stands there all rigid. Looks like pesky Paralysis has picked its prey and pounced yet again.

    Libra: <-6 EP>
    Ice Cube: <-14 HP; Can’t move!>

Ice Cube gulps, knowing the end is nigh. With another brilliant burst of energy, Libra sends the Cubchoo tumbling backward all the way to one of the goal posts. He slumps against the yellow bar and, with that, this match is done.

    Libra: <-6 EP>
    Ice Cube : <-5 HP>

Good work, guys! I enjoyed reffing this one. For taking home the victory, Grey receives four points. Cueball gets two and I snatch up four for reffing.

    Adios!
