I can't remember whether or not the amount of pokemon brought can be the same as amount of pokeballs. Someone please remind me xD

I think the only rule is that the number of Pokemon in your party can't exceed the number of balls in your possession.

EDIT: But I scanned the OP and can't find this rule, so maybe I'm making things up...

OK, give me a day or two to work out some story details. And the limits are three pokemon and five pokeballs (I should know, I have the original text file here) .

I knew about the maximum three Pokes/five balls max rule, but wasn't there also some rule about not being able to, say, bring three Pokemon along on a quest when you only buy one ball? Or is Oslo having a seniors' moment?

No, that was there at one time. Then that was removed. Seemed silly to limit Pokemon due to how many balls you could buy, versus creating an arbitrary max to maximize your adventure

^ When you're in the safari zone, you can go between areas however you please (as long as the way in which you do so is reasonable).
Choosing where you start is all you need to worry about right now when it comes to location.
You're not bound to one area of the safari zone.
