It's tourney time! Folks, welcome to the first round of the Dragon Tamer's Tournament, where our perilous beasts get to duke it out for bragging rights. Today, veteran Darkly will square off against newbie Skye. Who's gonna win? Who's gonna get an unceremonious boot and make it no further than the first round and spend the hole night crying light a lost child? Time to find out!

Shenanigans begin as Chaostik kicks up an awful fuss. As the Garchomp wails and moans, surges of sand billow down from the mouth of the stadium and cast a dense screen between our battlers. Chaostik, however, demonstrates a special affinity with the sand and almost seems to become one with it... but not enough for him to avoid Orion's coming Swagger. The Charizard puffs out her chest and begins to tromp around the joint like she owns the place. The nerve! Chaostik, who doesn't seem to like strong, confident women, is plunged into a bewildered rage. Pffsh. Misogynist.

Chaostik: <-4 EP; +2 Att>
Orion: <-4 EP>

Though his world appears to have gone topsy-turvy, Chaostik retains composure long enough to deal a wicked Dragon Claw. The attack hits hard; Orion, however, grabs onto the Garchomp's forearm and hoists him over her shoulders before slamming him hard against the ground. Eek! The Garchomp lets out a gasp as all the air is knocked out of his lungs. That looked hurty.

Chaostik: <-15 HP; -6 EP>
Orion: <-10 HP; -8 EP>

Confusion finally gets the best of Chaostik. Lying prostrate on the stadium floor, the Garchomp begins slamming his head against the ground. Yowch. Though the sand continues to partially obscure Chaostik, Orion is still within close enough range that she can shoot off a Will-O-Wisp easy-peasy. The tiny flame bursts against Chaostik's tuckus. Eep. Nothing worse than a big ol' Burn on your ass, amirite? imrite.

On the bright side, Chaostik's Confusion seems to have abated. So. That's something!

Chaostik: <-5 HP Cfn; Brn; Cfn no more>
Orion: <-4 EP>

Orion suffers from the grating sand <-3 HP> as Chaostik's rump begins to sizzle <-1 HP>.

EDIT: 'Kay, as it turns out I didn't end up calculating Dragon Claw for super effective damage so the calcs stays the same. Chaostik's super effective counter goes back down to zero, of course. So. Play resumes!

Oslo napped for four hours today! Since he's so well-rested, expect this reffing job to be the most impeccable reffing job ever. (Although I didn't know about Orion's custom sprite. That sort of info can be supplied at the beginning of the match. :3)

Sand continues to swirl and dance around the battlers as our match continues. Chaostik pulls together a heap of sand, moistens it with a bit of shark saliva (mmm...) and sculpts it into a... I guess that's supposed to be a Garchomp? Despite the shoddy craftsmanship, the Substitute takes effect and Orion is unable to tell the real Chaostik from the doppelganger. The Charizard then rakes in some sand of his own and renders it solid with a jet of flames. The sand sculpture looks a lot more like a Grimer than a Charizard, but whatevs. A Substitute is a Substitute.

Chaostik: <-15 HP; -4 EP; Sub: 15 HP>
Orion: <-15 HP; -4 EP; Sub: 15 HP>

The sky begins to sing and take on a purplish hue as a colossal meteor rips through the atmosphere. Orion dives for cover as the meteor hits, decimating his Substitute in one go. No! That was ART, you ignorant slut! Infuriated, Orion responds by flapping his wings and kicking up an eerie gale. The wind whips against the sand sculpture Substitute and knocks off a couple of limbs, but the thing remains mostly intact.

Chaostik: <-12 EP; -2 SpA; Sub: 9 HP>
Orion: <-4 EP; Sub: Broken!>

Utilizing that superior Attack stat, Chaostik gives his pointy arm thing a wave and calls upon the aid of numerous boulders that tumble down from the sandy skies. The crash against Orion in rapid succession and leave the Charizard in such a daze that he doesn't even know what his name is, let alone that he's supposed to be issuing attacks. Excuse the momentary derp.

Chaostik: <-6 EP; Sub: 9 HP>
Orion: <-17 HP; Fln>

Orion takes even more damage from all that ferkin' sand <-3 HP>. Meanwhile, Sub or no Sub, Chaostik winces as his beloved Burn flares up <-3 HP>.

Though Chaostik has taken the lead, Orion isn't ready to count himself out just yet. However, the Charizard's optimism isn't gonna protect him from the sudden blob of Toxic goo that comes flying out of Chaostik's mouth. Orion is struck in the face and rages, thumping and snorting and flailing about. His crude little dance causes the sand to abate as bright sunlight basks the battlefield in a harsh glare. Orion's body begins to metabolize the solar energy at an alarming rate.

Chaostik: <-4 EP; Sub: 9 HP>
Orion: <-4 EP; Txc>

Orion begins drawing sunlight in like crazy. Chaostik, meanwhile, waves a fin and launches a projectile rock right into Orion's face. (Always the face.) Orion promptly bellows before exploding with a blast of concentrated sunlight. The attack collides with Chaostik's Substitute and promptly blows the thing to smithereens.

Chaostik: <-8 EP; Sub: Broken!>
Orion: <-21 HP; -10 EP>

Without his Substitute, Chaostik is feeling awfully vulnerable all of a sudden. He swipes hard with a cunning Shadow Claw, leaving gouge marks in Orion's belly. (It's nice to leave the face alone every once in a while.) Orion, however, doesn't share this sense of mercy. Taking aim at Chaostik's face, he releases a blast of purplish energy. Chaostik takes the hit and tumbles to the ground, shocked by the sheer strength of that Solar Powered strike. Green energy, man. It's formidable stuff.

Chaostik: <-17 HP; -5 EP>
Orion: <-8 HP; -7 EP>

Chaostik's Burn continues to annoy <-3 HP>, but it's nothing compared to what Orion has to deal with. The combined effect of the Toxin <-3 HP> and sunlight <-3 HP> takes its toll.

Things aren't looking good for Orion. The Solar Powered Charizard is losing health faster than a small child guzzling turpentine, but he's not out of it just yet. He begins charging up a Dragon Pulse, but before he can shoot it off swells of sand billow down upon us once again. Orion fires off the purplish blast at his opponent, but Chaostik almost seems to melt away into the Sandstorm as he evades the attack. Curses.

Next thing Orion knows, heaps of rocks are tumbling down upon him from the heavens. Oh noes! Try as the Charizard may to shield himself, he simply can't manage it. A particularly large rock hits him on the noggin and knocks him out of the match.

And with that, the match has been decided!

Good work, you two! A fun battle from start to finish. Darkly proceeds to the next round of the tournament and takes home four points as a keepsake while Skye gets two for a valiant effort. I take home four aaaand... that's all! Later!
