Default Wolfsong vs. Grey Ref: Oslo

6 vs. 6 (one out at a time)
We send our first pokemon to the ref and they will determine who attacks first.
Banned moves: Rest, Attract, Toxic, Perish song, and Destiny Bond
Arena: The Wolf’s Paw arena: Located in the middle of a grassy field is the arena in the shape of a Wolf’s Paw Print. The heel of the paw is filled with tall grass and trees. The first toe is a mixture of sand and dirt. The second toe is made up of ice. The third toe is water and the fourth is lava. Each of the claws is a small rock formation but the first one has a cave. This is den of the local wolf pack. There are three of them the Alpha (White) Beta (black) and Omega (silver). Most of the time they will leave you alone. This changes if you disturb them too much. Then one of them will come down and attack. For example, an occasional earthquake while might irritate them but they’ll let it slide. However constant use may cause one of them come down and attack for 5 hp damage. However, for every five rounds there is a small chance (5%) that the wolves might give a blessing. If the Omega appears (75% of that 5%) all pokemon on the field regain 10 energy points. If the Beta appears (24% of the 5%) all pokemon on the field gain 10 Health points. If the alpha appears (1% chance of the 5%) all pokemon gain both 10 health points and 10 energy points.

(when i get time i'll try to make a better picture)
    DQ: 2 weeks

    Any takers?

Wolfsong will lead off with Nala, her female Purrloin with Limber.
Grey's first Pokemon will be Wakiah, his male Natu with Magic Bounce.

Flipping for first command. Wolf is heads, Grey is tails. Best two out of three.

    Flip... heads!
    Flip... heads!

And that settles it. Wolfsong, you're up!

    ‡ Pre-Round ‡

    ‡ Round 1 ‡

Ladies and gents, welcome to what has become a familiar locale for me over the past couple of years at ASB: Wolfsong's Wolf's Paw arena! Today we find ourselves in the heel of the paw surrounded by tall grass and trees aplenty. Here, two familiar trainers, Wolfsong herself and Greyfox, prepare to cross swords. Okay, time for me to shut up! Let's get crack-a-lackin'!

Two flashes of light mark the appearance of the trainers' first Pokemon. Wolfsong chooses a devious feline while Greyfox unfortunately has to suffer a type disadvantage with his telepathic birdie. Wakiash realizes his stats are going to need a little bit of work if he wants a fighting chance, so he immediately perches upon a nearby tree branch and starts meditating. As this happens, Purrloin saunters over to a jagged rock and begins Honing her Claws against its sharp edges. I sense a whole lot of table-setting going on here.

    Nala: <-4 EP; +1 Att; +1 Acc>
    Wakiash: <-4 EP; +1 SpA; +1 SpD>

Nala makes a sound like she's about to hork up a furrball... but instead spits out a swirling ball of spectral energy at her foe! Though her Accuracy stat has been buffered, she's simply not fast enough for Wakiash. The Natu Teleports from his tree branch which is promptly devastated by the Shadow Ball and reappears in the air just above Nala's head. He fires off a pulsating dual beam of red and green energy which gives Nala such a headache that... her skin starts melting away? Buh? Revealed beneath her Purrloin exterior is a Zorua! It was an Illusion all along! Of course, the question remains: was that really the most strategic use of such an ability?

    Foxy: <-13 HP; -6 EP>
    Wakiash: <-10 EP>

With Wakiash having expended all of his energy for the time being he can only look on as Foxy takes aim with a series of light green energy balls. The energy does a decent amount of damage, but it's nothing to write home about.

    Foxy: <-6 EP>
    Wakiash: <-7 HP>

    ‡ Post-Round ‡

    Notes:

    > At 0 EP, Pokemon will begin to lose 1 HP for every 2 EP they consume
    > Foxy's Hidden Power type has been locked in as Bug
    > Wolf, random observation about your arena: you might want to consider changing the frequency of the blessings? Right now the blessing has a 5% chance of occurring during every fifth round, which means its overall odds of taking place are 1 in every 100 rounds... which therefore means the odds for the alpha wolf's blessing (which is 1/100th of that 5%) are 1 in every 10,000 rounds. Since the blessing aren't huge game-changers, you could probably make them significantly more common. Just a thought.

    ‡ Pre-Round ‡

    ‡ Round 2 ‡

After an interesting start, the match progresses as Wakiash finds another branch on which to perch as he does his whole meditatey thang. However, there's no stat boost in it for him: a spectral black hand leaps out of Foxy and wraps itself around the Natu. Suddenly, Foxy begins feeling a strange clairvoyance tingle up and down her body. Wakiah sticks out his tongue. Assuming birds have tongues. Which I'm not sure if they do.

    Foxy: <-4 EP; +1 SpA; +1 SpD>
    Wakiash: <-4 EP>

The same black hand that performed the Snatch makes an encore appearance as it beelines toward Wakiah in the shape of a fist. Before the birdie can avoid it, he finds himself brutally battered by the thing. The bird scowls and cuts loose with another headache-inducing Bug-type beam. It does a little bit less damage than the last one.

    Foxy: <-12 HP; -6 EP>
    Wakiash: <-15 HP; -6 EP>

Foxy and Wakiah crosses swords once again as they trade off a Shadow Ball and a Hidden Power. The Shadow Ball knocks Wakiah clear out of the air and sends him bouncing like the basketball he is into a patch of tall weeds. Foxy, meanwhile, finds herself scorched by the Hidden Power's surprising heat. Yowch!

And with that, things are dead even.

    Foxy: <-8 HP; -6 EP>
    Wakiash: <-12 HP; -6 EP; -1 SpD>

    ‡ Pre-Round ‡

    ‡ Round 3 ‡

With Foxy's superior stats placing her at a distinct advantage, Wakiash knows it's time to pull every trick out of his hat. The birdie flutters just above the tall grass and twirls mid-flight, creating four Natu clones that chirp in unison. Foxy takes aim at the nearest bird thing and fires, but she scores nothing but net... and by net, I mean indigenous birdy clone. Pardon me.

    Foxy: <-7 EP>
    Wakiash: <-4 EP; 3 clones>

Surrounded by his three remaining clones, Wakiash begins to beat his wings. A silver-flecked gust of wind whips up and catches Foxy unawares, sending the Zorua tumbling a good ten feet out of the Wolf Paw's heel. Wakiash swoops after her and both fighters now find themselves in the short grass just south of the eastern lava paw. Infuriated, Foxy dives into the air at one of the Natus... and successfully finds the right one! She begins lashing out with every random blow in her arsenal. Wakiash chirps in dismay. Positivity never felt so awful.

    Foxy: <-9 HP; -5 EP>
    Wakiash: <-8 HP; -4 EP; 0 clones>

With an effective aerial maneuver, Wakiash swoops toward Foxy but goes wide, arcing around behind the Zorua. He then tackles the fox thing from behind before returning to his initial position. Foxy scowls. As no clones remain to throw off her accuracy, she shoots off a swirling ball of sizzling shadows at Wakiash. The attack hits, sending the Natu into a tailspin toward the ground. He lands just a few feet away from the bubbling lava. Close call.

    Foxy: <-10 HP; -6 EP>
    Wakiash: <-13 HP; -5 EP>

    ‡ Pre-Round ‡

    ‡ Round 4 ‡

Things are just about even as we progress into the fourth round. Wakiash tries to establish a mental link with Foxy so as to mooch off of her superior defences, but a translucent black bubble bulges around her. The link pulls up nothing but static. Wakiash scowls at Foxy. Didn't you ever learn to share?

    Foxy: <-8 EP>
    Wakiash: <-4 EP>

Moving on from his failed Guard Swap, Wakiash blasts Foxy with another Signal Beam. She rolls, coming within inches of the lava pit. As the heat swells around her, Foxy retaliates with an energy-based move of her own. Darkness rolls in around the Natu, eating away at him. When it parts, his eyes look a little cloudy.

    Foxy: <-12 HP; -7 EP>
    Wakiash: <-17 HP; -6 EP; -1 Acc>

Foxy keeps up the offensive with her second Sucker Punch of the battle, which surges right toward Wakiash. Pow! Right in the kisser! Wakiash perches atop Foxy's head and begins to dredge up health through his talons. Foxy gives her head a shake, but she can't seem to toss off the Natu. That said, he does make for an interesting piece of headwear. Very Navajo chic.

    Foxy: <-8 HP; -6 EP>
    Wakiash: <-15 HP; -6 EP; +4 HP>

    ‡ Round 5 ‡

Wakiash flutters over to the short grass a short ways from the lava pool as he scrunches up his eyes prepares an epic combination attack. Seeing an opportunity to strike, Foxy Taunts Wakiash by telling him that he looks like a cheap Nerf ball decorated by a blind, one-armed kindergartener. However, a pink barrier throws itself up around Wakiash and Magically Bounces the Taunt back to Foxy. Her confidence goes into a tailspin as Wakiash finally unleashes that doozy of an attack he's been working on. A silvery gust, a pulsating beam and an energy-sucking maneuver come together and launch Foxy clear over the lava pool to the other side. She doesn't get back up.

    ‡ Pre-Round ‡

    ‡ Round 6 ‡

Our little battle keeps rolling on forward as Wolfsong recalls her pesky little Zorua and replaces her with a pesky little Piplup. The Water-type Pokemon bounces jovially as Wakiash lets off a blast of electricity, but that less-than-stellar Accuracy stat of his bites him in the but. The attack goes wide, leaving Jordan free to Double Team unencumbered. He does a spin and amasses a wee little army of clones. Whoo! Piplup power!

    Jordan: <-4 EP; 4 clones>
    Wakiash: <-4 EP>

And now the guessing games begin. Wakiash eyes one of the Piplups that he thinks doesn't look quite Piplupy to be believable and attacks it with a Giga Drain... except he's wrong. Bam. Clonie bites the dust. Jordan then pumps out a steaming wave of water that makes Wakiash feel like he's taking a shower from hell.

    Jordan: <-6 EP; 3 clones>
    Wakiash: <-10 HP; -6 EP>

With his health leaving him rapidly, Wakiash takes one last shot in the dark. He swoops in at the nearest Piplup and attempts to suck some health from it, but alas, it too is a clone. Thus, there's nothing poor Wakiash can do as Jordan finishes him off with a brilliant white-blue beam of energy.

The birdcicle falls to the ground, defeated. Brr.

    Jordan: <-8 EP; 2 clones>
    Wakiash: <-11 HP; -6 EP>

Use Shock Wave first, then follow up by blinding him with Flash as he tries to slap you. Finally, use Thunderbolt!

    ‡ Pre-Round ‡

    ‡ Round 7 ‡

Greyfox recalls his fallen Natu to its Pokeball before summoning a new battler to the edge of the lava paw. With a flash of red, an inverted zebra takes to the field and paws the ground aggressively. Jordan and her little retinue of illusory Piplups begin by giving their cardio a nice workout. As they run around in circles, Ixion releases a broad sizzling blast of electricity. Unable to miss, the attack zooms toward the correct Piplup and roasts her thoroughly.

    Byebye, clones.

    Jordan: <-11 HP; -4 EP; +2 Spd; 0 clones>
    Ixion: <-4 EP>

Now Speedier than Ixion, Jordan hurls a glob of mud before the Blitzle can respond. The mud gets in Ixion's eyes (eurgh) but doesn't prevent him from executing his next move. It's like the fourth of July all of a sudden as a blinding Flash fills the air. Jordan stumbles in a daze. Karma, little penguin. Karma.

    Jordan: <-3 EP; -1 Acc>
    Ixion: <-3 HP; -2 EP; -1 Acc>

Jordan gives her arms a wave and calls upon... a Rock Tomb? For serious, Piplup gets Rock Tomb? Okay, GameFreak. Boulders tumble downward from the sky but end up landing a little to Ixion's right, sparing him from the attack. And now it's Thunderbolt time. Poor Jordan receives an unpleasant jolt and is blasted back all the way to the heel of the paw. Not that it really matters.

    Jordan: <-17 HP; -3 EP>
    Ixion: <-8 EP>

    ‡ Pre-Round ‡

    ‡ Round 8 ‡

With both Pokemon suffering impaired Accuracy, it'll be interesting to see how the rest of this battle pans out. Meanwhile, Jordan begins slathering herself and her surroundings with great dollops of mud so as to ward of future electrical strikes. Ixion, meanwhile, decides now is the time to do his best banshee impression. BLAAAAREEEGRAAAAEEEEEEOOOOOAR. Judging by the look on Jordan's face, it worked.

    Jordan: <-4 EP; MSp; -2 Def>
    Ixion: <-4 EP>

Jordan begins burrowing through the soft earth beneath her feet and, just like that, she's gone. Looks like we have a master spelunker on our hands. Ixion, however, pays this no mind and throws up a sparkly golden shield. It hangs there in the air kind of uselessly but, hey, at least it's purdy.

    Jordan: <-3 EP>
    Ixion: <-4 EP; LSn>

Suddenly, the earth beneath Ixion's hooves begins to stir. This is never good. Like a groundhog from hell, Jordan emerges from beneath her opponent and lashes out with a powerful Ground-type strike. Ixion stumbles but ultimately catches his balance in time for a Wild Charge. Electricity sizzles all over him as he plows into our little Piplup friend, though the mud seems to protect her from some of the harm. Ixion suffers a bit of damage himself.

    Jordan: <-12 HP; -3 EP>
    Ixion: <-12 HP; -3 HP recoil; -7 EP>

    ‡ Pre-Round ‡

    ‡ Round 9 ‡

No matter what Jordan tries, he doesn't seem able to get the upperhand on his Blitzle foe. Trying something new, he marches toward Jordan and attempts to slam his open palm into the crack zebra's leg. However, Ixion merely zips out of range, causing Jordan to fall flat on her face. It must be tough being a Piplup. So top-heavy. However, all is not lost: she tumbles through the Light Screen and shatters it to pieces.

    Jordan: <-6 EP>
Ixion: <-4 EP; +2 Spd; LSn no more>

Once again the speediest Poke in town (not that, erm, this place is vaguely town-ish), Ixion Discharges a broad cone of electricity that makes Jordan wish she weren't alive. She then retaliates with a concentrated Blizzard that makes Ixion wish he'd brought his earmuffs out to play.

    Jordan: <-14 HP; -10 EP>
    Ixion: <-12 HP; -6 EP>

Once more, Ixion goes on the offensive with an Electric strike; however, the attack goes wide and merely zaps a nearby patch of grass. Jordan then strategically releases a bevy of rocks in an attempt to waylay future opponents.

    Jordan: <-4 EP>
    Ixion: <-8 EP; SRk>

You're doing great, Ix, now let's really lay it down!

    Thunderbolt x3!

Shock Wave clones, and if she attempts to status you, Agility to get away from it!
