    Default Battle in the Ability Room! nepence vs. Cynder (ref: Oslo)

    New battle idea!

    This arena is known as the Ability Room, a large white room with no doors or windows. What's unique about this place? Well, it carries the special power of being able to exert influence over a Pokemon's ability. During the first round of the battle, both Pokemon will fight using their regular abilities. However, when the trainers issue their second round commands, they'll state which of the 191 abilities they'd like their Pokemon to have instead, regardless of whether that Pokemon can legally possess that ability. Their Pokemon will then have that ability for the round. When the round ends, the trainers will select new abilities when they issue their next set of commands, and that process will repeat itself for the entirety of the battle.

    The catch? No ability can be selected more than once. If one trainer selects Parental Bond, that ability is then no longer up for grabs and neither trainer can select it for the rest of the battle. In the post-round notes, I'll list which abilities have already been selected to help you keep track.

    Remember, ability selection occurs in the same post as the commands, which means the person delivering their commands first won't know what ability their opponent will select, opening the door for shenanigans. Also, if a trainer forgets to select an ability for their Pokemon, they're SOL. That Pokemon just won't have an ability for the round.

    This battle will be a 3 on 3, with a standard 40 HP damage cap and one week DQ time. I'm banning non-damaging healing moves.

    Personal request, mostly due to my smaller number of pokemon. Tree helped, but my match with Ay (the one DL's reffing) is showing me how much of a difference the number of pokemon I have can make, and a larger battle amplifies that.

    For example, Charmeleon was quite a good choice against me when I only had 4 pokemon. Elekid was my best option, and it wasn't all that great of one.

    To be honest I kind of want this battle to be long enough for the Ability Room gimmick to really play out, so I'd prefer a 3 on 3. If you'd like, we could set this up as a blind battle, where you and your opponent PM me the three Pokemon you'll be using and I choose the order they're released. That would prevent you from having to worry about selecting a suitable counter for whatever your opponent has on the field.

    I'll take you on, this sounds like fun! I'll use my Eevee, Beth, who is female with the ability anticipation!

    Okay, let's start off with a quick tail whip, then switch to Iron Tail for a bit more sting. Finish up with a yawn; if it protects before you get the chance, use double team instead.

    It's battle time! Today we find ourselves in the Ability Room, where a bunch of shenanigans are sure to go down. Two experienced trainers, nepence and Cynder, step up to duke it out. They release their Pokemon: a little grey pig with a corkscrew coming out of his butt and a cute widdle fox thing. Okay! Let's begin!

    As the battle kicks off, Spoink tells Beth that her neck ruff makes her look fat. My goodness! How rude! Poor Beth's feelings have clearly been hurt. She stews in misery instead of attacking.

    A christmas, a new years and two family b'days later... (And with a mother who still holds a grudge after 30-something years for the one time my dad forgot her b'day)...

    So, it's taunted, and it has two moves that can do real damage. To begin with, we're gonna take the Justified ability.

    Lets take Motor Drive to start with, then hit it with three shadow balls. Not broke, why fix it? Plus some hax with the spdef reduction would be very nice at this point

    After a bunch of bumping, the battle continues! Spoink begins with a Psychic attack that lifts Beth way up in the air and sends her crashing down to the ground. She pulls herself back up, hisses and then launches a Shadow Ball. It bursts against Spoink and knocks him onto his tushie. Ouch.

The little piggy watches as Beth leaps forward and attacks with her little Eevee fangs. Both Beth's and Spoink's typings gets a little Darker. Spoink wriggles free from Beth's grip and lets a firefly energy blast rip through the air. Beth is struck and skids backwards before coming to a halt. She's not used to a move like that hurting so much.

    Heh, bet you never imagined someone would use that strat against you! Just wish I could say it was something I came up with myself

    I'll take the ability Prankster, and just set up a medium sized sub and hit it with two bites. If it breaks through the sub and tries to use torment, go for a double team instead of bite, and if it tries to psych up the boosts when your sub's down, set up another sub.

    Beth seems quite pleased with herself for having gained some serious stat boosts while burning through so much of her opponent's energy. She keeps trying to play strategically by using her new Prankster ability to quickly piece together a Rhydon plushie... 'cept, as it turns out, there's something much faster than a Prankster Substitute. With a Snatching motion, Spoink levitates the Rhydon plushie over to his side of the field. Dang.

With another mighty Shadow Ball, Spoink blasts Beth clear off her feet. She lands in a heap and faints.

It bursts against Dawn and takes out a chunk of her hit points. Dawn uses one of her support moves to create glowing pink bars around Spoink, who looks to be Imprisoned. As the bars fade, Spoink loses one of his attacks.

    Spoink is really sticking it out here... Let's see what else he can do.

    So, he squashed Shadow Ball on us, and he's trying to use Hex. So, let's Filter those out.

    Then, for attacks... Just blast away with Extrasensory, Psychic, and Thief.
