Default XP Service Pack 2 is out.

And has been final for nearly 24 hours now.

    Highly recommended.

Read if you have SiS onboard graphics: If your display seems to mess up after installing SP2, you'll need to reinstall the IGP drivers. You can get them from SiS' site.

Thanks to kainashi for bringing the final release of SP2 to my attention late last night.

Modem users be forewarned that SP2 weighs just over 266MB.

People who do not want to download a 266MB file (like me, for instance... I don't use a modem however) will have the option soon (it isn’t currently available) to get to Windows Update Avenue and receive a much smaller, more optimized download.

Damn updates always make me restart my computer. I try to keep it up all the time. Anyway, the 266MB file didn't take too long on my cable modem.

The firewall isn't bad. Asks you what programs you want blocked when you load them. Good for gaming.

Especially for those who like to use Kazaa and play Diablo II: Lord of Destruction or Starcraft at the same time.

When you download it, does it save as a setup icon or does it automatically update the system when it's finished? I could go to my friends house and use his cable to burn it to CD if it does save as an icon.

It says those who will only be updating one PC should wait for their Auto Update to get the smaller, more appropriate version.

    Think i should do that?

Well it's a executable, which means it usually gives you an icon to start it off.

    Re: "Icon" or not:
It's an executable, as yami yugi said. So yes, it'd be better to download on a fast connection and burn to CD, then take it home and install.

Re: Express Install vs Advanced Install:
If you're on a fast connection it's far more beneficial to just download the Advanced Install executable. It only took an hour for me, and I'm on a relatively slow 512k line. The Express Install isn't really smaller anyway, it just means that the SP2 files will be downloaded during the install process rather than before it.
