Defeated, Dratini returns to her Pokeball and leaves Ryan to make his final selection. After a moment’s pause, he plucks a new ball and gives it a toss. Out comes a squat coniferous Pokemon and, suddenly, hailstones begin gusting through the Colosseum. Hrm. What with the hail, Snover’s type advantage, Paralysis and Azure’s flagging health, this will definitely be an uphill fight for the Starmie.

And Snover has no intentions of going easy on Azure. He presses his grassy fingers to his mouth and blows, causing a shrill but placating noise to blare over the sound of the Hail. Just like that, Azure tips over and falls. It’s down.

Azure: <Asleep>
Snover: <-3 EP>

As Azure sleeps, Snover is free to do whatever he wants with impunity. He spits out a tiny seed that attaches itself to Starmie. Hrm. Not good.

Azure: <Seeded; Zzz>
Snover: <-3 EP>

Delighted by the way things are going, Snover tiptoes toward his foe and presses his leaf hands into the Starmie. They glow as they suck energy out of Azure, transferring it to Snover. With his perfect health, he doesn’t really need it, but hey, he’ll take it anyway.

Azure: <-10 HP; Zzz>
Snover: <-7 EP>

Suddenly, the hailstones scratch and grate at Azure just as the Seed drains away some health <-6 HP>.

As we enter the next round, Snover picks up an unusually large hailstone and decides that this will make a fitting Substitute. Meanwhile, Azure is lost in dreamworld imagining itself executing a pretty wicked Gyro Ball. Of course, because it’s still asleep, these images are nothing more than a dream.

Azure: <Zzz>
Snover: <-20 HP; -4 EP; Sub: 20 HP>

Snover flounces back toward his foe and drains a whole lot more health, this time to some beneficial effect for the Frost Tree Pokemon. Meanwhile, Azure continues sleeping away.

Azure: <-10 HP; Zzz>
Snover: <-7 EP; +5 HP; Sub: 20 HP>

Suddenly, Azure lets out a high-pitched trill and hops back onto its feet. Ooh, looks like someone’s finally awake! The starfish unleashes a concentrated beam of Rock-type energy from its core and it strikes the hailstone Substitute, but leaves it ultimately intact. Snover goes for another Giga Drain and that health feels pretty darn good.

Azure: <-10 HP; -9 EP>
Snover: <-7 EP; +5 HP; Sub: 7 HP>

The hailstones scratch at Azure while the Leech Seed drains some energy from it <-6 HP> and transfers this energy to Snover <+3 HP>. At this rate, the starfish won't be alive and kickin' for much longer.

Confident that he can pull this one off, Snover marches over to Azure and seizes hold of it. He begins draining health through his verdant fingertips, replenishing his own stamina. Azure responds with a bevy of Psychic waves, but, rather than using them to free itself, it causes the overlarge hailstone to levitate for a split second. When the attack is release, the ball of ice lands on the ground and shatters.

Azure: <-10 HP; -9 EP>
Snover: <-7 EP; +5 HP; Sub: Broken!>

Still strangling the life out of Azure, Snover sees no reason to stop. Azure goes limp in the Christmas tree’s prickly grip. That would be the Paralysis.

Azure: <-10 HP; Can’t move!>
Snover: <-7 EP; +2 HP>

Here it is. Raising Azure overhead, Snover drains the last of the remaining life from the sea star before tossing the purple Pokemon aside like an old rag. This one’s over.

Azure: <-6 HP>
Snover: <-7 EP>
