    GREYFOX'S SAFARI ADVENTCHA!

    Dysfunctionland
A dilapidated series of amusement park rides and buildings. Who knows what you might find underneath these dusty tents and behind closed doors…

    ‡ Round 1 ‡

Your adventure begins by starlight as Abra Teleports you to the outer perimeter of Dysfunctionland, a ramshackle amusement park only recently opened to the public. You gaze up at the park's outer walls and look over to see queue of Pokemon waiting to enter. It looks to be a busy night.

You weren't expecting such a long a line-up for an amusement park with no working rides or attractions. A shiny Snubbull sits at the front of the line in a crummy, rundown booth permitting the Pokemon to enter the park one-by-one.

    How do you proceed?

    > Join the line
    > Hop the fence
    > Approach Magnemite
    > Approach Mr. Mime
    > Approach Delibird
    > Approach Rotom
    > Approach Litwick

    CYNDER'S SAFARI ADVENTCHA!

    Triangle Island
This island, far off from the coast, seems to have a peculiar energy to it. Strange things occur when it is visited-but reports of its existence are few and far between. What is known is that it has many craters and is a strange hilly terrain, with few patches of grass.

    ‡ Round 119 ‡

You give the key a tug, but the Weedler is awfully heavy. Straining with all your might, you finally manage to tug the key free and end up tumbling backwards into the wall. All this kerfuffle has woken the Weedler.

It starts stomping around in circles, blocking the exit.

    How do you proceed?

    > Ask him to move
    > Lure Weedler away from the exit
    > Attack!

I'll try and lure him away by moving to the other side of the room and heckling him, hopefully getting him to come over, and then dashing out of the room asap.

If a tree falls in a forest, and there's no one around to hear it, does it make a sound?
    ....
    What?
    ....
No, watching it with telepathy doesn't count.
    ....
No, smelling it fall doesn't count either.
    ....
Why would there be an Ursaring involved?
    ....
Just because Ursaring live in the forest doesn't mean they go around pushing trees over. And how would you know they do it, if you're not around to see it?
    ....
I don't know what the Ursaring's name is, I didn't bring it up!
    ....
    How many?
    ....
I'm sure the facility didn't have prime numbers in mind when they fitted their ceiling tiles.
    ....
No I don't want to read a magazine.

Philosophical debates with pokemon are hard.

    ‡ Round 120 ‡

Playing a rather risky game, you dart over to the far wall and call the Weedler a Snakes and Ladders reject. (It's hard to insult caterpillars, okay?) The bizarre taunt seems to do the trick: Weedler comes stomping over toward you, giving you the opportunity to slip past him and scurry down the tunnel. Success!

You return to the antechamber dragging the key behind you. Towering above you, Wynaut is impressed.

"Well done!" he says as he reaches down and picks up the key. He fits it into the door and unlocks it. "So what's the plan? Do you want to deactivate your Mini Mushroom before entering King Blower's chamber or would you prefer staying small for the time being?"

    How do you proceed?

    TEAM RAZOR LEAF'S SAFARI ADVENTCHA!

    The Old Village
An abandoned part of the village that is set for refurbishment some time in the future. Who knows what you can find here, pokemon seem to flock to it from wherever they are. There's also rumours of places hidden beneath the old village...

    ‡ Round 74 ‡

Though you don't seem to be making much progress with your philosophical discussion, you nonetheless manage to whittle away the time. Before you know it, fifteen minutes have passed and Dr. Miltank reenters the waiting room.

"Your Pokemon is ready," he says as he gestures for you to follow.

Dr. Miltank leads you into a small, sterile-smelling room where a machine twice as big as you hums and whirrs in the corner. Sitting in a nearby incubator, all wrapped up in a fuzzy pink blanket, is a tiny Lileep. She appears to be sleeping. Dr. Miltank clicks open the incubator, lifts her out and places her on a stainless steel counter. She doesn't stir.

"She's under some pretty heavy anaesthesia at the moment," Dr. Miltank explains. "You ought to be able to catch her with no hassle."

    How do you proceed?

Aww she's so cute! Those two little eyes looking out from a pit of floppy male genitalia. I'll catch her in my remaining Great Ball now.

    ‡ Round 121 ‡

Wynario leads the way into Blower's chamber while you scurry behind him in his shadows. Walking along a velvety carpet, you enter a massive, windowless dungeon. You follow the carpet with your eyes to the far side of the room where, seated in an intimidating throne, is a Blastoise with rather bizarre pigmentation and an equally bizarre coif. This must be none other than King Blower himself.

"So, it's you, Wynario," Blowser grumbles. It's apparent your miniature form has eluded his notice. "I should have known you'd try to stop my plan yet again."

"You bet I did! So, where's Pom Po-- er, I mean, Princess Pomegranate?" Wynario asks.

King Blowser smirks and points to the far side of the room. You see a massive vat filled with boiling water. Suspended above the vat is a cage getting gradually lowered inch by inch toward the water. Inside the cage is the most beautiful Wobbuffet princess you've ever seen.

    Well, not really.

"Help, Wynario!" Princess Pomegranate screams from up above in her cage. "Help me!"

    How do you proceed?

    ‡ Round 75 ‡

You make an untoward comment that fetches you a disapproving look from the good doctor as you gently capture Lileep in your Great Ball. She's sucked into the ball's blue chamber.

    Wiggle.

    Wiggle.

    Wiggle.

    Click!

Suddenly, your Teleported back to the Safari Zone front counter. The attendant hands you the balls containing Darmanitan, Gabite and Lileep before wishing you a pleasant day. And that's that.

    Dysfunctionland
A dilapidated series of amusement park rides and buildings. Who knows what you might find underneath these dusty tents and behind closed doors…

    ‡ Round 2 ‡

You wait patiently in line for your chance to enter the park. It takes the better part of an hour (which is ridiculous because it's not that long of a line!), but you eventually make it to the front of the queue. The Snubbull looks up at you and your retinue disinterestedly.

"Since the festival's going on, tickets are 500 Poké Dollars per Pokemon," Snubbull explains without intonation as she eyes Chopin, Megazord and Inverted Duckbot. "Humans enter the park for free."

    How do you proceed?

    ‡ Round 4 ‡

You figure, meh, might as well enter the park if no one's here to stop you. You examine your surroundings and see that, for a dilapidated amusement park, they've put in some effort to pretty the place up. Navy and gold streamers hang over the heads of numerous Pokemon bustling about while masks and paper lanterns adorn every tent. You see children running around wearing masks that show half sun, half moon.

    ‡ Round 6 ‡

You decide to pay a visit to the fortuneteller. As you draw near, you see a Sentret hunched over a crystal ball with a pensive look in her eye. Everything smells like perfume and your head begins to swim as though drugged. You see a sign bearing the words Astrid the Astounding.

"So happy you finally joined me, children," Astrid says in an oily tone. "The Inner Eye foretold of your arrival. Now, which of you would like to receive your fortune? Or, rather... which of you is courageous enough to brave the clairvoyant and the thrills and horrors it portends?"

You wish Astrid's Inner Eye had warned her to take a bath before stepping out. The perfume is making your gut turn.

    GREYFOX'S SAFARI ADVENTCHA!

    Dysfunctionland
A dilapidated series of amusement park rides and buildings. Who knows what you might find underneath these dusty tents and behind closed doors…

    ‡ Round 7 ‡

You sit yourself down in front of Astrid the Astounding. The Sentret leans forward, grabs your hands in hers and starts humming loudly. Choping, Megazord and Inverted Duckbot begin snickering. Astrid shoots them a dirty look.

"Most minds are far too mundane to sense a fraction of the clairvoyant vibrations to which my Inner Eye is always tuned," she snaps. "Now, concentrate, child. I need you to empty your head. Relax. Breathe."

You'd find breathing a lot earlier if Astrid didn't smell like a bunch of wildflowers had a violent orgy together, but you do your best. Astrid closes her eyes and resumes her humming. After a minute, you begin to feel uncomfortable and wonder if you ought to leave. Suddenly, Astrid's eyes snap open. She has a look of terror upon her face.

"Night," she blurts out suddenly. "I see night without end, but it's only the first step... a storm-tossed tower... a gathering of cloaked figures... a being of black vapour... and troubled dreams, the most troubled dreams imaginable."

    She looks seriously disturbed.

    How do you proceed?

    ‡ Round 8 ‡

Astrid is pale and begins sweating as you ask her for a more thorough explanation.

"I'm not sure, child," she confesses. "I have grown used to sussing out that which the Inner Eye foretells, but these images... are too horrible. There is a dark shadow draped over you like a shroud. I cannot say what it means, only that you need to be on your guard. Yes, I want to read the others fortunes. We'll all join hands. It will be harder, but quicker. Come, children. Gather round."

Chopin, Megazord and Inverted Duckbot aren't snickering any longer as they join hands to form a circle with Astrid. You watch as Astrid closes her eyes and once again starts humming, this time with added vigour. She starts murmuring quietly under her breath and appears to fall into a trance before snapping back to consciousness. She's quivering.

"Chopin, it will all come down to you, since you're the only organic member of your trio and thus the only one who can be pulled into your dreams," Astrid explains in tremulous tones. "Megazord, you will need to be strong. The Second Ceremony will affect you, naturally, but you can fight it if you try. Inverted Duckbot, you will prove to be very useful when it comes time to seek the one who lies in chains. Oh my... the dark shadow hangs over you three as well... I cannot... Greyfox... no more..."

Suddenly, Astrid falls to the ground and begins convulsing.

    GREYFOX'S SAFARI ADVENTCHA!

    Dysfunctionland
A dilapidated series of amusement park rides and buildings. Who knows what you might find underneath these dusty tents and behind closed doors…

    ‡ Round 9 ‡

Megazord lifts Astrid up as you peer around for someone to help you.

A crowd of concerned Pokemon at this point has gathered to see what's going on. Suddenly, two figures push through the crowd and make their way up to you. You recognize them as the Persian and Smeargle you saw arguing.

"What's going on?" Smeargle demands. "I am the Park Director! I demand you tell me what's happening here! What have you done to Astrid?"

The Persian, however, has a strange expression on his face. He looks somehow vindicated.

"I knew it," he murmurs to himself.

    How do you proceed?

    > Explain the situation
    > Uh... is it too late to flee?

    GREYFOX'S SAFARI ADVENTCHA!

    Dysfunctionland
A dilapidated series of amusement park rides and buildings. Who knows what you might find underneath these dusty tents and behind closed doors…

    ‡ Round 10 ‡

You explain the situation as Megazord places Astrid down on the ground. She appears to have stopped convulsing at this point, but she doesn't seem to be conscious.

The Park Director gets to work, Sketching up a jar of ammonium carbonate that he uses to perform SmellingSalt on Astrid. It has no effect. He then Sketches up an electric thermometer that he sticks in her mouth. The thermometer begins to emit a Heal Pulse, but again, nothing happens.

"She's out cold," Persian says. "I warned you... I told you that something would--"

"Hush," the Park Director snaps. He turns around to address the throng of concerned Pokemon. "Listen, folks, nothing to see here. One of our employees just got a bit of heat stroke. That's all. Continue enjoying the festival... yes, run along... very good..."

The Park Director turns back to Astrid with a faint look of concern, but it's nothing compared to the way Persian looks.

"Sir, I told you," Persian hisses fervently. "This entire festival... we're just tempting fate! How could we think it wouldn't upset the powers that be? I've been seeing the signs... it's so close to returning... and tonight is only bringing him even closer to--"

"Carson, I've told you, it's been gone for years!" the Park Director barks. "I won't have you disturbing my festival for a bunch of bloated superstitious nonsense."

"Superstitious nonsense?" Persian asks. "Then explain this."

He jabs one paw at Astrid, who's now whimpering and thrashing on the ground. It almost looks like she's having a nightmare. The Park Director is barely able to mask the anxious expression upon his face.

    How do you proceed?

    GREYFOX'S SAFARI ADVENTCHA!

    Dysfunctionland
A dilapidated series of amusement park rides and buildings. Who knows what you might find underneath these dusty tents and behind closed doors…

    ‡ Round 11 ‡

Inverted Duckbot tries to perform Dream Eater on Astrid.

Suddenly, it leaps back and begins chirping erratically. You wonder fleetingly if your Porygon-Z has blown a gasket, but it calms down after a short while, notwithstanding the occasional twitch. It doesn't look too keen on trying that again anytime soon.

"No wonder," Carson say. "These are not the kind of dreams you want to eat. They're much darker, much deeper than normal dreams. They're significantly more dangerous, too."

"I don't want to hear about this anymore," the Park Director growls. "I'm taking Astrid to the medic's tent. She'll receive treatment for her heat stroke. End of story."

"Sir, we have the cancel the festival," Carson implores. "We mustn't invoke its wrath. It's already leeching off of Astrid, getting stronger as we speak. We must be on its good side when it comes--"

"Security!" the Park Director cries. "Security!"

    Two Rotoms materialize.

"Get him out of here," the Park Director says.

Carson kicks and struggles, but the two Rotoms manage to lead him away. They're swiftly lost in the crowd.

"I'm sorry you had to be privy to all this silliness, human," the Park Director says to you. "The Astounding Astrid is known to flights of lunacy. You might consider it an occupational hazard, given her profession. Now, don't let this stop you from enjoying the festival. I encourage you to check out everything the Midsummer Festival has to offer. It's almost midnight and the Pika Posse will be performing on the main stage. They put on quite a show."

He then picks up Astrid and carries her away.

    How do you proceed?

    > Follow the Park Director
    > Try to locate Carson
    > Head to the main stage
    > Check out the information tent you saw earlier

Duckbot, use Lock-on on Carson so we don't lose him. I don't trust this director, and Carson seems to be the only one making sense of this.

    ‡ Round 12 ‡

Inverted Duckbot uses Lock-On and just barely manages to attach a target to Carson.

You and your Pokemon tag after the Persian and the Rotom guards until you reach the gates of Dysfunctionland. The Rotoms toss Carson out on his butt and then turn to see you in pursuit. They don't look thrilled.

"What are you up to?" the first Rotom inquires suspiciously.

"Yeah, you got a problem, pal?" the second asks, flexing its lightning bolt arm thingies as intimidatingly as lightning bolt arm thingies can be flexed.

    ‡ Round 13 ‡

You simply ask to speak to Carson.

"Fine," the first Rotom grunts eventually. "But we've got our eye on you, punk. If any funny business goes down tonight we know who to talk to, eh?"

    The Rotoms then float away.

You look over at Carson sitting on the other side of the turnstile. He's licking his paws while eyeing the retreating Rotoms menacingly.

"They won't be so smug when Darkrai returns," he mutters.

    GREYFOX'S SAFARI ADVENTCHA!

    Dysfunctionland
A dilapidated series of amusement park rides and buildings. Who knows what you might find underneath these dusty tents and behind closed doors…

    ‡ Round 14 ‡

Carson slinks up to the turnstile and speaks to you from the other side of the gates.

"You're familiar with Darkrai, yes?" Carson inquires. "A truly malevolent Legendary Pokemon if ever one existed. Two years ago, Darkrai haunted Grave's Yard and all those who lived there. A Pokemon trainer not unlike yourself named chaos_redefined ventured into the Safari Zone and vanquished Darkrai, catching him once and for all... or so many believed. Yes, he was captured, but the evil power that gives him shape will inevitably birth more and more Darkrais as time goes on. Some Pokemon like Astrid are attuned to certain clairvoyant signals, and I am no different. I have been feeling Darkrai's mounting power for some time now. We must be sure not to invoke Darkrai's wrath when he comes back, and the Midsummer Festival has the potential to do just that."

    How do you proceed?

What makes this festival so provoking? Why would he haunt a run-down amusement park?

    GREYFOX'S SAFARI ADVENTCHA!

    Dysfunctionland
A dilapidated series of amusement park rides and buildings. Who knows what you might find underneath these dusty tents and behind closed doors…

    ‡ Round 15 ‡

"The location of the festival is arbitrary," Carson explains. "The Midsummer Festival is held in a different part of the Safari Zone every year. It's what the festival symbolizes. Midsummer coincides with the summer solstice, which comes a little bit earlier in our world than it does in yours. The summer solstice marks the longest day and shortest night of the year... and that night is tonight. Darkrai has always been spiritually aligned with nightmares and, thus, with nighttime. To celebrate the shortening of nights is to spit in the face of Darkrai and all that it represents. It hasn't returned yet, but as you saw with Astrid, its influence and its anger are both growing."
