Uses for Brock

Yes, we're down to referring to him as a tool. In more than one way.

So, yeah. This thread is basically to discuss possibilities for Brock's future. It seems to be that he's been little more than dead weight mixed with some (very) occasional comedy for awhile now. So the question is, how can Brock serve a better role in the anime?

Personally, I really enjoyed the episode a couple of weeks ago where he participated in the contest. That was the most he's done in ages - his own line about not remembering the last time he fought in an official battle makes that point quite clear. I was desperately wishing he'd keep doing contests, but alas, it appears to have been a fruitless hope.

So, what role do you think Brock could serve? How could he gain a bit of importance in the anime? Share your ideas!

(And yes, I know this applies to Max every bit as much as it does to Brock, but I figured it's more reasonable to ask about someone who can legally participate in official battles.)

Maybe Brock will go back to the old gym again and leader it up? Of course, thats very predictable. Maybe he'll be offered a place as a Johto elite 4 guy or something? *Shrug*

Max should be slapped by a girl or somthing for tearing Brock away. That one chick, the Battle Pipe girl, really liked him. Maybe she'll turn up and ask to marry him and he'd have his own show, his own movie and be the co-leader of the Battle Pipe!

Hmm I don't know what is with Brock. After all the bad karma the writers got when they removed him and replaced him with Tracey in Orange, I doubt they'll have him leave the cast again. I don't think battling will ever be his 'thing' either - after all his team is not strong at all. He has been out of loop for some time.

How about having him work in a daycare, like you have on the games? He could supply aAsh with a couple off eggs. It's not like ash catches that many pokémon anyway.

The only times I thought he was funny was in the Mastermind, with the candlelight dinner, and when his little boxing toad punched him for the first time.

Other than that, he's a background prop.

Brock has not been funny in years. Time for him to go. Is he going to leave soon, like say in the upcoming Diamond and Pearl saga, or no?

I've heard some theories on the subject, though not many beyond the initial speculation. Quite a few of the early advertisements had pictures of a new girl, with none of the original cast members. Some people believed that it would be the end of the original cast, while others said she would be Ash's sole companion. Still others thought that would serve as a side story to the main series as it progressed into the new region.

As for me? I don't have a clue, although I'd like it if the last one was the case. Two Pokemon series > One.

If we're thinking of Brock being funny, it seems to me that it'd be nice if he was more than just comic relief. That serves a purpose, but when he doesn't even do that well, something more is necessary.

I've seen some of D/P but I won't spoil. Brock does get some redemption in the form of a new Pokemon.

That's your opinion. I think (Spoiler:) Greguru's gag of stabbing him with poison until he collapses is pretty funny. Sure, it's not like he has a big goal like Ash or May but he still amuses me more than that stupid Lombre

By your own admission right there, the Pokemon does all the comedy, Brock just... reacts to what that Pokemon does!

By my admission Brock's running gag of fancying girls is funnier when (Spoiler:) his Pokemon stabs him with poison than when an 8 year old boy pulls him away by the ear with a corny one liner.

It's just my opinion Andrew, it's not worth berating me this much.
