Ah, dammit. I knew I was doing something wrong...

Okay, here's an edit, so...here goes...oh, and I'm roleplaying now. Hope you don't mind a bit of it.

"Staryu," I said, clenching my fists with determination as I saw my opponent's Marshtomp smiling gleefully (albeit creepily, as well) at me and my Staryu, "I want you to start off with an Ice Beam and fire it straight down at its feet. Marshtomp then won't be able to feel vibrations in the ground as you keep steady.

"Then, I want you to follow up with a more devastating Power Gem attack. Sure, it won't be effective on a Ground-type, but it requires you to use your gem, and perhaps it will blind the Marshtomp. Follow up with a Hydro Pump and annihilate the thing with a powerful STAB bonus! Now let's do it!" Staryu felt my determination and already began firing beams of ice from all five points on its star-shaped body, aiming everywhere...but did they connect? Did the ground really freeze?

Okay....Nereus Mirrior Coat the Ice Beam back at Staryu then Rock Smash on its gem core. End with Iron Tail.

===Round 1===

As a loud truck passed, I got out of work today-thinking I'd be done with reffing for a while--hahaha no. Verm slipped me a Ring Ding, and here I am in Times Square, reffing this match.

A match between a Marshstomp and a Staryu. Interesting. Staryu was no slacker either, spinning rapidly and letting off 5 thin Ice Beams that coalesced into one huge beam to strike Nereus head on! Nere was unphased though, as the beams seemed to coat his body in a sheen, before being fired back -twice as fast! Staryu flew back landing close to a few spectators!

Staryu stayed down. Nereus, curious, ran over, fist glowing orange. When he got over to where the echidnoderm lied, a gleaming series of lights were there to greet him-as well as a powerful surprise, that Gem in its back shot out and sent him reeling. Holding his face, Nereus ran back over to the healing Staryu and smashed his newly formed Gem!

Still wiping his face a bit, Nere didn't see Staryu levitate up and shuriken itself forward, The star spun upward and paused in its ascent, rapidly spinning. The sidewalk began to buckle, and Marshstomp backed up...suddenly a huge section of the sidewalk blasted open, water surging out under Staryu's command, and rained down on the 'Stomp!!

Staryu watched as the Hydro Pump then began to die off. At the last possible surge of water though, Nereus rode the water column up and struck Staryu from the underside with a Iron Tail!

Wait, this already happened once this summer with a pipe breaking in Midtown!

===Round 1===

With the street covered in water, Nereus looked around. With a hole in the street, plenty of dirt could be spotted. Diving into the hole, Nereus was able to amass a great deal of mud, and fling it at the levitating Staryu. As the ball reached its target, a protective barrier appeared around the shuriken. Mud splattered everywhere.!

Upset at that, Nereus clamored out the hole and lunged for the floating Staryu, trying to Smash his halfway grown Gem inwards. Staryu had different plans though, and caused an immediately short yet concise blast of wind to strike Nereus out of the air, land leave him left leg numb. That was gonna slow him down a bit.

No, no it wasn't-as Nereus tried again, this time lumbering over to get a good angle to lunge from. Staryu dodged the incoming Marshstop, and as Nereus fell back into the hole, he would hear the incoming sound of water once again being forced into the pipes. Hurrying didn't save him, and it was pretty bad, being blasted by a concentrated Surf out of those pipes...

===Round 3===

No fear from the Staryu here! With a mighty "HYA!" The shuriken-mon threw a series of rapid-fire shots from its peak appendage at the time. Aimed for Nereus, Staryu would watch in disbelief as a jettison of purely ice-blue energy left Nereus mouth, freezing the incoming Water Gun shots, and crashing into his gemchest! Staryu flew backwards, crashing into a mailbox.

Glad he got a hit in, Nereus re-clambored back onto higher ground. No sooner than he was up, did that Starmie spin itself aloft, and continue to spin. The star sped past Nereus, creating a whirlwind that struck him back momentarily. It was a light hit, and for that Nereus chose then to reappear as not one, but 5 forms upon the street!

Staryu didn't like the multitude of enemies now. So, with a plan to slow down his nemesis, the Arctic winds came once again, blowing from behind him. Nereus didn't care. The Icy Wind hit his forms as well as himself, but he kept rolling.

Staryu watched the incoming blitz-wait one was gone...and another..a third.. but the fourth didn't disappear--and proceeded to crack into Staryu with a Rollout. The numbness in Nereus's leg though did slow his start, so the first hit didn't do as much as it could have.

"Okay," I said, glaring at Staryu with determination. "You're almost exhausted and the dude doesn't even have half of its health gone! No matter, now he will! Use Water Pulse on the ground to shatter the ground and to destroy all of the clones and to damage the Marshtomp! Next, because that hit will bring its HP down to below 50%, use Brine to lower the health even further and finish it all off with another Icy Wind!"

===Round 4===

This NYC battle is going crazy! Staryu, showing signs of fatigue, focuses his watery blast down on the weakened concrete. True to his Trainers prediction, the ground does crack and buckle, upsetting Nereus' footing.

The clones vanish, leaving a sole Nereus to fall backwards -back down in the hole. However, Nereus gladly falls back, as that familiar rumbling comes back-only under Staryu. A hefty blast of water breaks free of its pipe-prison, and slams into Staryu, arcing and curving into the Hard Rock Cafe.

Now, Staryu takes a moment to reflect here. He dosen't see the Marshstomp yet, and his gem is still healing. But the Stomp had to be under 50% health right? Spinning to gain altitude, Staryu would peer out of the window he came crashing through, only to witness ice shards flying in from all directions. He was struck full-force by the incoming Blizzard, slamming onto the back of the wall-arms frozen to the wall!

In that position, he only had one free leg. That leg was his focus point to shoot salty seawater up in the air at Nereus. Halfway expecting Staryu to be defeated, Nereus is surprised when the briny blast hits him in the eyes, and it STINGS!!!

Still frozen to the wall, Staryu has little in the way of options. A few determined pulls and Staryu starts to crack free of the ice chains. When enough icy shards break free, Staryu mentally controls them to whip up and around in a current, before sending that current toward the incoming Nereus.

The chilling blast catches the Marshstomp, and he yells out, mainly because his right arm is totally frozen now. However, Nereus uses that to his advantage as he lumbers over to the Staryu, and plunges his new icy-fist into the Gem-breaking the ice, at the cost of pain, and the gem!

FINISH IT ONCE AND FOR ALL!" I yelled, my hand gesticulating that Staryu attack with force.

===Round 5===

..With a arm hold on the wall, Staryu starts to wrench its body left. The ice starts to crack and shatter, and after a few pained moments of stretching, the ice shatters around Staryu. Continuing his rapid Spin, Staryu-still carrying remnants of the icy wall on him, flings the wind at Nereus! Nereus blocks his face from the incoming surprise, gritting his teeth as some ice shards poke him. Dashing through the wind when he had a free second, Nereus, called upon the powers of their element, sending a Pulsating stream of water over Staryu.

Staryu reeled back, dazed from the hit.

[N: -6E/-5H S: -4E/-5H]

With all bets off, Staryu and Nereus both charge up a Briny-smelling concoction-and square off, shooting rapidfire blasts at each other-while dodging and running around the Hard Rock Cafe. Nereus slipped on the ice however, and fell victim to a second blast slamming into his side. As much as he wanted to, he was winded and held off on shooting anymore blasts for a moment.

Knowing that Nereus' legs were still numb- Staryu jettisoned in, and with Staryu came the water. Soaring up at the last minute, Nereus barely had time to try and curl into a ball as the Hydro Pump Drilled him against the wall. But all was not lost, as the blast subsided.
