    I'll take you on. It'd be my first battle as a gym leader, so let's see how it goes, aye?

    Rules:
    3 on 3 single.
    You choose first.
    I attack first.
    1 week DQ time.

    If you win, you receive my badge: The Power Coin. Now here's the arena:

    THE ROOM
    a large square room with no doors or windows. how you've gotten there is a
    mystery, and how you'll leave is worrysome. the walls, floor, and ceiling are all bare and
    white, except for one large orb-like device in the center of the ceiling. every three rounds,
    the orb will change it's color to either green, black, pink, blue, yellow, or red. the walls of
    the arena will match the orb the following round, causing unusual effects:

    green - "venom"
    each pokemon will feel their lifeforce drain: 1% per action (3% per round).

    black - "blind"
    each pokemon will be temporarily blinded: accuracy will be reduced by 50%.

    pink - "regen"
    each pokemon will feel their lifeforce recover: +1% per action (+3% per round).

    blue - "energy"
    each pokemon will feel completely revitalized: energy costs will be reduced by 50%.

    yellow - "agility"
    each pokemon will act with increased reaction time: speed will be increased by 1.

    red - "wrath"
    each pokemon will act more hastily, without thinking most of the time: pokemon
    can only attack directly; attack power will be increased by 1; energy costs will be increased by 50%

    during the battle, however, each pokemon will be induced with an auto-safeguard. the
    only status ailments that can be afflicted to each pokemon will be the ones caused by the
    white room. the white room will change in color every three rounds, using a random
    number generator to decide what color the room will turn into. the room cannot be the
    same color twice in a row, however. there is no water in the white room, however. all
    pokemon battling must be able to survive on dry land.

    Finally, an interesting gym! Just a couple questions:

    1: Will the room be White for the first three rounds or only the first round?
    2: "Lifeforce" refers to HP, right?
    3: The Red room basically makes it like the Pokémon have a constant Taunt on them, correct?

    The damage ratio seems very off, VP. 17 damage for a single attack that I'm not weak to? Way too high, especially considering both of my attacks only did 7 damage each.

    Focus Punch has a base power of 150 in the games, which translates to 15 base points of damage in my refs. It gets a boost because Toxicroak is part Fighting, like the move. Same with Revenge; base of 60, translates to base of 6, doubled due to damage taken, and powered because Toxicroak is part Fighting.

    The only thing I'll do is increase the energy cost for Focus Punch, since it now looks OP as it is. I'm raising it to 18 energy cost. I'm not changing my damage calculations, though; also Mike, I want you to confirm you're okay with keeping your moveset with Abe's lowered energy level.

    Seems a little inconsistent then. If you're going to double the damage dealt for Revenge, shouldn't you also double the damage dealt for Aerial Ace -- since Toxicroak *is* a fighting type, and therefore weak to flying attacks.

    Revenge's power was doubled because that's the nature of the move:
    Revenge:-FGT-This is a very slow physical attack, if the user is damaged before they finish the attack then Revenge is powered up.
    I do not double damage for super effectiveness; as you said, Prinplup is not weak to Fighting. Aerial Ace did do more damage than it would to a non-fighting type.

    But since you're so insistent, I will make one final change to my reffing, and that'll be lowering the powered-up amount of moves like Revenge and Brine that normally get doubled under the right circumstances. Any more complaints about how I ref and I will simply drop this altogether.

    Again, I am waiting for Mike to respond that he is alright with these changes; if he has any problems, I'm dropping the entire ref and you'll have to find a replacement. This is becoming more of a headache than I want it to be, and since I don't get paid for this, I have no real reason to do it besides wanting to.

    :;Peers in, lets fireworks fly::

    Ok umm lets see. Three parts. Reffing, then people

    After reading VP's explanation for how he calculates energy cost and damage ratio, I honestly can't see a fault with that Grey. Yeah, Focus Punch seems a bit high-but at the same time, its a high risk move. You get hit and oh snap, you lost it.

    So with Stab its up to 17HP dmg. That's not so bad for energy used though. Maybe the Energy cost should drop actually. 18E for Focus Punch seems high to me even(and I double a bunch of stuff for crap sakes) . That can go down to 14, to be honest-trying to align myself with the way you ref here VP.

    I got no fault with the doubling of something like Revenge-again the Move list states that it gets "powered up". If the ref chooses to double it, then that's what they choose to do-thought I think that doubling could be seen as the upper tier of "powered up".

    VP-K, I dunno if yer having a bad week, but you seem a lil stressed over having another Reffing under your belt-and the whole reward=not real reward thing has you mad. But don't go making all sorts of threats just because Grey voiced an opinion.

    Sure, you stated in your rules that you won't change the reffing-and Grey voiced an opinion on it. If he didn't want you as the ref, he would have asked to receive another one. But, as Mike pointed out partially, not everyone gonna look to your sig for your rules. That's something people are going to learn with time. Just like they'll have to learn your parameters with time.

    Grey- Although you were simply asking and pointing out what you felt were inconsistencies, you gotta be mindful of the ref style as a whole. You stated that VP was inconsistent because AA didn't deal double damage but Revenge did. Revenge hitting a Pokemon that is not resistant to it-and AA hitting a Pokemon that is weak to it are two different scenarios.

    More than one ref here does not double SE damage, but double something like Brine or Reversal because its a situation which much be achieved-rather than being weak to a type. You can't single him-or anyone-out on that. VP just happens to be one who "doubles" moves based on parameters, and not SE effects. Possibly to achieve balance when one of those doubling moves are used on a Pokemon that is weak against it.

    Now, I think I addressed the problems here. I'm not knocking either of ya for feeling how you feel about the reffing, but I just hope that each of you can see where I'm coming from as a impartial party. If I missed the point completely, let me know.

    I was a bit unclear in my complaint, I s'pose. My problem isn't that Focus Punch did so much -- it's just that it did so much in comparison to Aerial Ace. I know refs don't do the double damage route for weaknesses (I don't either). Focus Punch (with an attack power of 150) did 15 + 2 (for STAB), which is understandable. However, Aerial Ace (with an attack power of 60) only did 6 + 1 (for weakness), which doesn't make sense. 1% damage is not enough difference between effectiveness for me.

    Quite frankly, VP annoyed me at first when he posted his ref rules without so much as an explanation, but I let it go. But because of his uncompromising attitude, I don't want him to ref for me at all.

    I'm sorry if you felt that the 1 damage extra is not enough for super effectiveness, but I have been using this formula in all of my refs so far and nobody else has complained about it. I suppose that's the main reason I got so upset. After at least 80 rounds of refs with this formula and nobody complaining about that fact, I kinda figured that it was perfectly fine.

    I'm sorry that you feel differently, and I will remove my offending ref since it's only the first round.

    But yes, DL: I had a hectic week last week preparing for the weekend con, as well as a slightly lacking sleep schedule over the weekend itself. Probably doesn't help my mood, no.

    ===Round 1===

    Ok, I'll be reffing this. Here we are in this room...which is all while..and I have no idea out to get out of. Kinda wanna know the answer to that. Well at least I'm not alone. Greyfox and Mike are here...err and well they don't seem to care about me as they stare each other down. Grey's Umbreon seems to not take liking to me though, and begins snarling over here...wtf did I ever do to you, you crossbreed of every four legged household pet!

    Anyway, Mike sends out his Toxicroak, to get things started. In reply, Grey releases a Prinplup by the name of Blue. The penguin drops on her belly and skids over to the right instantly, leaving Abe to quietly focus. Dashing back and forth, up and down, left and right seemed to not phase Abe at all, and so Blue wouldn't notice the slight twitch in his right arm when his mind and arm were fully charged. Blue came across Abe's left side and suddenly met face to fist with Abe, bouncing her up and over...and damn well gone!

    Abe: -9E ===//=== Blue: -3E/-14H +2 Spd

    Dazed from that hit, Blue walk around for a moment to get her bearings. Abe hops over lickety split and goes for a cracking introduction to make sure both hands met her. However, he was taken back by the backflip and Aerial slash that came with said flipping Penguin. Thrusting himself forward-through the pain, Abe connects with the landing Penguin, sending a nice healthy jolt through her system.

    Abe: -6E/-6H ===//=== Blue: -3E/-12H

    Abe kept within swinging distance of Blue, and tried to grab her outstretched flipper. He grabbed it, but also grabbed a buttload of butt hurt, as she fired off a strong series of Water Pulses in his face. He released her flipper and fell on his back, not sure if he was drowning or floating!

    Abe: -7H Cfn===//=== Blue: -4E

    It really didn't help matters that the room suddenly turned blue. Now Abe was struggling for reality to kick in.

    Well, now I'm just gonna sound like a douchebag for bringing this up: Toxicroak's confusion should be lifted because'a the auto-safeguard, but that's all I'll say. =P

    Reign, that first round did some damage to 'ya, so let's kick things up a notch with this room! Start yourself off with Drill Peck! Then, after he hits you with his faint attack, surround yourself with Double Team clones. Finally, as he's wasting his time with said clones, aim a Hydro Pump at his electrified fist to discharge it early -- hopefully causing him a lotta pain.

    Gym Match of Awesome!

    ===Rules===

    3 on 3
    All other Gym Rules apply.

    THE ROOM
    a large square room with no doors or windows. how you've gotten there is a
    mystery, and how you'll leave is worrysome. the walls, floor, and ceiling are all bare and
    white, except for one large orb-like device in the center of the ceiling. every three rounds,
    the orb will change it's color to either green, black, pink, blue, yellow, or red. the walls of
    the arena will match the orb the following round, causing unusual effects:

    green - "venom"
    each pokemon will feel their lifeforce drain: 1% per action (3% per round).

    black - "blind"
    each pokemon will be temporarily blinded: accuracy will be reduced by 50%.

    pink - "regen"
    each pokemon will feel their lifeforce recover: +1% per action (+3% per round).

    blue - "energy"
    each pokemon will feel completely revitalized: energy costs will be reduced by 50%.

    yellow - "agility"
    each pokemon will act with increased reaction time: speed will be increased by 1.

    red - "wrath"
    each pokemon will act more hastily, without thinking most of the time: pokemon
    can only attack directly; attack power will be increased by 1; energy costs will be increased by 50%

    during the battle, however, each pokemon will be induced with an auto-safeguard. the
    only status ailments that can be afflicted to each pokemon will be the ones caused by the
    white room. the white room will change in color every three rounds, using a random
    number generator to decide what color the room will turn into. the room cannot be the
    same color twice in a row, however. there is no water in the white room, however. all
    pokemon battling must be able to survive on dry land.

    ===Round 2===

    Abe opens and closes his hands, before hopping from foot to foot like a boxer. Blue waddles back a step, as the room seems to suit her personality much better. The confusion Abe was experiencing was due to the color change, that's all. No long standing effect. Honest !

    Abe ran over to quickly sent a left jab at Blue, but she quickly slid on her belly and dipped lower than he aimed. Her attack was for his knees, where she performed a small cyclone of pecks. When he bounced backwards though Abe connected with his right hand, jabbing her pretty hard.

    That long creepy nail added just a lovely tint of purple to her azure shade...but it went away!

    Abe: -3E/-10H ===//=== Blue: -3E/-8H

    Abe rubbed his leg, and turned back to see Blue all up in his face again. He jumped backwards, and was now ablur, even though he swore he could see 4 Blue's just trying to track him. No matter, there was one Blue that was ...bluer than the rest in this blue room. He reappeared and swung out his right arm in a haymaker fashion, knocking Blue straight to the ground.

    Blue rubbed her cheek-why was this frog getting all the breaks!!

    Abe: -3E/-6H ===//=== Blue: -1E/-8H

    Blue had enough of this. This was her home turf. She charged up a massive cyclone of water, and fired it from her flippers. The blast went right for Abe's electrically charged hand, and Abe raised it so the voluminous jet of water shot under it. Blue just..tilted her hands slightly and Abe was slammed backwards! He flew into the wall, his arm's power fading.

    Abe: -3E/-12H ===//=== Blue: -5E

    Abe peeled himself off the wall, this wasn't gonna be easy after all

    ===Round 3===

    Blue, being the faster of the two, starts this match off with another tobaggan approach. Abe crosses his arms defensively, and deals with the barrage of pecking he receives from the penguin. It forces him to his knees, but he swings in a wide arc, punching Blue away kinda hard.

    Abe: -3E/-10H ===//=== Blue: -3E/-9H

    Abe shook his legs out, trying to make them steady so he could attack, when a deluge of water struck him-damn near blindsided him. It scarred him! What the hell kinda attack was that? No matter. He lunged at Blue and punched him in the gut for that. Blue doubled over, quite hurt.

    Abe: -3E/-11H ===//=== Blue: -3E/-12H

    Why was his attacks rising in power? Blue didn't get it. She decided to rip Abe down once and for all. Abe, being closer now, was withing striking distance for a mean searing of ghastly energy. It forced Abe back a step, as the energy ate at his arm. Enraged Abe bounced up, and landed on Blue-HARD.

    When Abe wants Revenge, he gets it.

    Abe: -3E/-9H ===//=== Blue: -4E/-13H

    Both competitors are evenly matched! Who will gain the upper hand?

    Alright, Reign -- let's mess with his words. Wait until he charges up his Thunder Punch, then hit it with another Hydro Pump to discharge it. Do this each time he charges up his Thunder Punch so he won't have time to switch over to using Revenge. But if he catches on somehow, use Protect against it.

    ===Round 4===

    Abe clenched his fists, pretty miffed at this cunning penguin. One hand crackled with electricity, and Abe lunged upward to try and cover the distance between them in one bound. Blue waited until Abe was airborne before forcing a massive funnel of water up at Abe's arm. The blast sent Abe into the ceiling, knocking the electric pulse out for now.

    Abe: -3E/-12H ===//=== Blue: -5E

    Abe jammed his right hand into the ceiling, hooked in by that foreclaw. He swung for a moment, and jumped down toward Blue. Blue didn't see any electric charge on Abe, and geared up to Protect himself, but that faithful spark of yellow came into view. Blue hastily went to charge up a Hydro Pump, but Abe was too close. The ThunderPunch struck, and Blue skid backwards. In retaliation, Blue let that Hydro Pump fly, casting Abe back again.

    Abe: -3E/-12H ===//=== Blue: -5E/-12H

    Abe was irate and even though on his stomach, he still inched forward. Climbing to his feet, he scraped forward, gaining speed to try and eliminate Blue. Blue looked for the spark and saw nothing. Kneeling, she crossed her flippers over her head as Abe slammed both fists over and over onto Blue's protective shield.
