Default Jeepers, it's a 6 on 6 on 6! GL vs. Mike vs. Wolfsong :) (Ref: Oslo)

Okay, it’s not really epic, but I always kind of wanted to ref a 6 vs. 6 vs. 6. Yes, THREE fighters each with SIX Pokemon. Egads!

The arena will be… Poke Floats! High above the ground, a kajillion Pokemon-shaped balloons bob around and bump into one another and it’s all quite cool and absurd. The balloons are peculiarly solid and cannot be popped or distorted in any way. Every few rounds, the balloon you’re on will randomly start losing altitude and you will lose an action in order to jump to the next balloon. Frozen/Sleeping Pokemon will sense the altitude loss and, in an incredible panic, will overcome their statuses to hop to the next balloon. Even mobility-challenged Pokemon like Probopass or Snorlax can hop.

Also, the balloons have a kind of cool power to strengthen attacks based on what type of Pokemon the balloon is. For example, if you’re on a Walrein balloon, Water and Ice moves will be boosted. If you’re on a Meowth balloon, Normal moves will be boosted. Remember that you have to physically be on the balloon to get the boost, so if you’re flying around or Levitating, no boost for you. Oh, and my Swellow will be flying around to catch Pokemon that fall. No messy accidents on Tweety’s watch, no sirree!

Certain moves that require solid ground beneath you (Earthquake, Dig, Ingrain, etc.) will fail. As well, I’m banning non-damaging healing moves (Roost and Rest, but not Mega Drain or Drain Punch). The participants can choose other moves to ban and can decide on whether abilities will be active. I have no preference. DQ time will be seven days, though.

Round One will begin on an Eevee balloon! Make sure you actually have six Pokemon before you join, by the by.

(And yes, if you’re wondering, I was hella bummed when they didn’t bring Poke Floats back for Brawl. I’ve been holding onto this disappointment for a long time.)

Yay! So abilities are active, then.

Command order: Wolfsong > Mike > GL. Simple enough. Round 2's command order, then, will go Mike > GL > Wolfsong, while Round 3 will be GL > Wolfsong > Mike... and so on.

You're up, Wolfsong! Let's do this.

Let's kick things off with a Toxic on Poliwag. Then, combat the Water Pulse with a Thunderbolt! Finally, end with Faint Attack to get behind and hit Poliwag.

    ‡ Round 1 ‡

Ladies and gents, welcome to Poke Floats! Here, miles above the ground where dwell fluffy clouds and various other fun things, innumerable Pokemon-shaped balloons bob about on the breeze. Today, these balloons will serve as the platforms for some fisticuffs of near-epic proportions! It’s true! I’m not just blowing hot air!

Get it? ‘Cause they’re balloons. Pun.

Our three combatants hop up onto the floating trainer platform, which rockets toward our first balloon, a rather large one made in the likeness of a chipper Eevee. They release their Pokemon in turn, calling out a Shuppet, a Poliwag and a Meowth respectively. Ooh, looks like a good mix to me. Let’s get this underway!

Sitting primly atop the Eevee balloon’s head, Poliwag cuts the ribbon on the battle by hacking up some goo from his belly. Um, ew? He spits the Toxic glob at Oliver, who reacts just in the nick of time by bringing three clones into existence. The Toxic collides with one of the Meowth doppelgangers and obliterates it on the spot. Phew. Just then, a second glob of goo materializes in front of Nena who directs it at Poliwag. This time, the poisonous substance collides and Poliwag feels his stomach clench. Eep. This sort of thing seldom ends well, little buddy.

    Nena: <-4 EP>
    Poliwag: <-4 EP; Badly poisoned>
    Oliver: <-4 EP; +2 clones>

Feeling a little worse for the wear already, Poliwag growls and turns his vengeful gaze on Nena. He spits a stream of cold water that douses Nena thoroughly. While the little tadpole is distracted, Oliver takes the time to fire off a shimmering burst of white energy that collides with Poliwag with a little added bite. Power-boosting balloons are the greatest! Now dripping, Nena begins crackling with electric current and unleashes a discharge at Poliwag, who seems to seriously be hating life right now.

    Nena: <-6 HP; -6 EP>
    Poliwag: <-21 HP; -4 EP>
    Oliver: <-4 EP; 2 clones>

Feeling pretty safe at the moment with his pack of alley cats by his side, Oliver suavely summons a Shadow Ball and sends it ripping toward Nena. Poliwag, ready to exact some pretty satisfying vengeance on his foes, calls upon the might of a raging Blizzard to put Nena and Oliver on ice. The move seems to do the trick and even manages to destroy the two Meowth clones before striking the real kitty. So there! Finally, Nena vanishes in a split and reappears behind Poliwag. She dive-tackles the little blue blob with a cackle. Violence is fun!

    Nena: <-23 HP; -4 EP>
    Poliwag: <-5 HP; -10 EP>
    Oliver: <-10 HP; -9 EP; 0 clones>

Just then, the Toxic does its thang on Poliwag… and it’s not pleasant. <-3 HP>

    ‡ Round 2 ‡

As the next round begins, Oliver turns on Nena and begins mouthing off about how he ain’t ‘fraid of no ghosts! Ooh, that’s low. As Nena reflects on these crushing words, Poliwag summons another icy gale to ravage the Eevee balloon and send it gusting off course. The tiny taste of winter is too much for Nena and Oliver, who are left holding themselves for warmth. Poliwag smirks. Serves you guys right!

    Nena: <-10 HP; Taunted>
    Poliwag: <-10 EP>
    Oliver: <-10 HP; -4 EP>

Even after that Blizzard, Oliver is still winning this match, something that doesn’t go unobserved by Nena or Oliver. Oh, golly no. The spook and the tadpole fix their gazes on the tomcat, unleashing energy-based attacks. Quick as can be, Oliver dives out of the way of that Thunderbolt and pounces on Nena with a quick swipe. However, Poliwag plucks the Meowth up off the ground with a few well-placed Psychic waves and hurls the kitty at Nena. Oliver merely passes through Nena, leaving her ultimately unscathed, though the same can’t be said for him. He collides with one of Eevee’s ears. Ouchies.

    Nena: <-9 HP; -6 EP>
    Poliwag: <-9 EP>
    Oliver: <-16 HP; -4 EP>

Oliver seems none too pleased with Poliwag for that psionic barrage. He begins crackling with electric current and shoots off a hot streak of yellow at Poliwag, frying him up good. Mmm, is someone cooking fish? Nena follows suit, glowing crimson as she uses Psychic energy to pick up Poliwag and smash him into the balloon… and pick up Poliwag and smash him into the balloon… and pick up Poliwag and, um, yeah, you get the point. Once the two big bad Pokes stop double-teaming poor Poliwag, the Tadpole Pokemon gets back on his two legs and spits out a glob of mud at Nena. The sticky stuff gets in her eyes, compromising her vision for the time being.

    Nena: <-5 HP; -9 EP; -1 Acc>
    Poliwag: <-20 HP; -4 EP>
    Oliver: <-6 EP>

And if that wasn't enough, the Toxin delivers a mild pang to Poliwag's poor tummy. <-5 HP>

    ‡ Round 3 ‡

It’s that time again: Blizzard time! The snow and the ice bluster in on all sides, sending the chills through Nena and Oliver once more. Brr. Nena targets Oliver with a white flash of power, but the Scratch Cat Pokemon is ready. He vanishes on the spot, dodging the Secret Power altogether, and reappears behind Nena. Again, he lashes out with his energy-infused claws, raking them through the ghostie. Painful.

    Nena: <-19 HP; -4 EP>
    Poliwag: <-10 EP>
    Oliver: <-10 HP; -4 EP>

Suddenly, as our combatants prepare their next moves, the Eevee balloon begins drifting downward! Oh no, it’s losing altitude! Terrified that they’re in for a crash-landing, the three Pokemon look around for a new platform and… ooh, there’s one! Drifting right up beside the Eevee balloon is a large green mass. Well, better than nothing! Poliwag and Oliver hop from the Eevee balloon to their new platform, an oversized inflatable Xatu, while Nena calmly glides over. Successful transfer!

    Nena: <>
    Poliwag: <>
    Oliver: <>

Okay, time to hit the Pause button again and get this match started up. Nena and Poliwag turn their sights on Oliver once more. Nena command a cold, cold wind to come blowing through the atmosphere, sending another chill through the Meowth. Oliver heats things up by Shock Waving Poliwag just as the tiny tadpole brings his tail swishing through the air to collide with Oliver’s face. Oliver glares. You did not just pull out a bitch-slap!

    Nena: <-3 EP>
    Poliwag: <-9 HP; -4 EP>

With increasing strength, Toxic begins to wring out Poliwag’s stomach. <-7 HP>

    ‡ Round 4 ‡

Acclimatized to their new surroundings, our little threesome continues this heated battle as Oliver spins on the spot, bringing three Meowths into existence. Poliwag, not big on the sudden surplus of little kitties, summons a raging Blizzard to wail through the air. The flecks of snow and ice bite away not only at Nena and Oliver, but also at the three clones, who vanish in a split. Tough luck, Oliver. Finally, Nena isn’t thrilled about having received damage and lashes out at the little tadpole.

    Nena: <-10 HP; -4 EP>
    Poliwag: <-8 HP; -10 EP>
    Oliver: <-10 HP; -4 EP; 0 clones>

Suddenly, Nena’s eyes glow red as the wee ghostie begins commanding Psychic powers. Alas, if only Nena weren’t Levitating, she’d have access to the pwnsome balloon power boost, but no matter. The waves stretch out and buffet the kitty, causing Oliver to hiss and crackle with electricity. He doesn’t hesitate to liberally shock Poliwag, who responds by turning to the skies. Iron-grey clouds roll in and begin spilling huge flecks of hail that probably won’t be so friendly to our three battlers.

    Nena: <-9 EP>
    Poliwag: <-11 HP; -4 EP>
    Oliver: <-9 HP; -6 EP>

As our three fighters circle the drain, it becomes clear that someone has to drop first. Praying that it’s not him, Oliver flingers a humming ball of Ghost-type energy at Nena, who shrieks as the move collides. It brings her close to the end, but not quite. In retaliation, Nena uses more Psychic waves against Oliver, beating away at the poor Meowth without actually making a kill. Golly, is anyone going to faint or what? Poliwag seems intent on making this happen and summons one final Blizzard to do the deed. As the snow and ice pile upon Nena and Oliver, the former can't seem to take the cold and flutters downward, defeated.

    Nena: <-18 HP; -9 EP>
    Poliwag: <-10 EP>
    Oliver: <-19 HP; -9 EP>

Just then, the Toxic puts Poliwag in pain once more, but, miraculously, doesn’t kill him! <-9 HP> Woohoo! Yay! Then, in the middle of Poliwag’s victory dance, a swell of hailstones comes blowing in and strikes the tiny tadpole <-2 HP> as well as Oliver <-2 HP>. Together, they fall.

    ‡ Post-Round ‡

    Current Balloon

    Psychic-type and Flying-type moves receive a +6 HP boost!

    Notes:

    > Ahhh, that was beautiful, guys! Triple KO!
    > Unless overcome, Hail will last for two and a half more rounds
    > Because Nena was the first to fall, TEAM GREEN LANTURN will release next. Then, since Poliwag and Oliver were defeated simultaneously, I flipped a coin to determine who releases second. As a result, TEAM WOLFSONG will release second and TEAM MIKE MYSTERIO will release third
    > Then, once everyone has released, the command order will be as such: TEAM MIKE MYSTERIO, then TEAM GREEN LANTURN, then TEAM WOLFSONG

Goku, start off with a Heat Wave, then use a Flamethrower on Witbier, last use a Brick Break on Elliot.

    Oh this should be good.....

Alrighty Witbier, start things off by combatting the Heat Wave with a Water Pulse towards Goku. Then combat Flamethrower with Blizzard, and finally end with Grass Whistle, if it has to be aimed, then aim it towards Elliot, but if not, widespread!

    ‡ Pre-Round ‡

    Current Balloon

    Psychic-type and Flying-type moves receive a +6 HP boost!

    ‡ Round 5 ‡

One by one, the three fallen Pokemon get recalled from the head of the Xatu balloon and return to their balls. Then, the battlefield is alive with light and colour as a trio of new fighters join the fray! A Snover, a Snubbull and an Infernape exchange battle-ready looks as the fifth round begins! Right off the bat, Witbier and Goku don’t like the look of that Intimidating Snubbull and find their strength diminish a tad as a result.

Goku heats things up by unleashing a hot wind upon his foes. The skin-searing Heat Wave travels toward Elliot and Witbier, though the Snover is ready. He unleashes a burst of water at the oncoming surge of air. The immense temperature of the Heat Wave evaporates every last droplet of the Water Pulse, but becomes significantly weaker as it strikes both the Snover and the Snubbull. Singed a tad but not disheartened, Elliot grunts and claps his hands, causing the hail to die away and the sun to shine down brightly upon the battle.

    Witbier: <-7 HP; -4 EP; -1 Att>
    Goku: <-8 EP; -1 Att>
    Elliot: <-3 HP; -4 EP>

Pleased with how that went, Goku makes use of the bright sun as he breathes a hot snaking trail of flames at Witbier. Panicked, Witbier summons a Blizzard, but the move requires a little more time than the Water Pulse and he can’t seem to execute it before getting singed by that Flamethrower. Too bad. Too late to remove the bite from that Flamethrower, the Blizzard rolls in nonetheless and puts Elliot a chill on Goku and Elliot. Finally, the Snubbull discharges a wave of electricity that sizzles toward Witbier and successfully Paralyzes the tree thing. Don't lose heart, Witbier!

    Witbier: <-18 HP; -10 EP; Paralyzed>
    Goku: <-6 HP; -7 EP>
    Elliot: <-10 HP; -4 EP>

Witbier then begins to press his leafy fingertips toward his mouth to execute a Grasswhistle, though not before Goku rushes toward Elliot with a fierce Brick Break that launches the Snubbull all the way to the far end of the balloon. Thus, when Witbier’s Grasswhistle rings through the air, Elliot is safely out of range, leaving Goku to be taken in by that shrill yet strangely soothing noise. The Infernape’s legs buckle as he slumps over, asleep. To finish things, Elliot performs a Double Team and now finds himself in the good company of three Snubbull doppelgangers.

    Witbier: <-3 EP>
    Goku: <-4 EP; Asleep>
    Elliot: <-7 HP; -4 EP; 3 clones>

    ‡ Post-Round ‡

    Psychic-type and Flying-type moves receive a +6 HP boost!

    ‡ Round 6 ‡

As the next round gets underway, things are looking tight for Goku who is rich on hit points but is also in the unfortunate situation of being, um, not awake. Goku mumbles some words in his sleep and hops up in a peculiar trance. Suddenly, he performs a rapid aerial leap and comes soaring down with impeccable force and accuracy toward Witbier. He scores a direct hit with that Aerial Ace, which is boosted in strength by the balloon. Score. Witbier opens his palm to reveal a handful of snow, which he blows toward Elliot. However, the snow merely passes through a clone, causing it to vanish. Finally, Elliot replies by breathing scorching hot flames all over Elliot. Ooh, painful.

    Witbier: <-31 HP; -4 EP>
    Goku: <-3 EP; Zzz>
    Elliot: <-7 EP; 2 clones>

Once again, Goku mutters some other jibberish in his sleep. All of a sudden, he tells Elliot that he looks like the back end of a Milktank. How rude! Dejected, Elliot finds his fighting spirit diminish. Meanwhile, Witbier tries to perform a physical attack on Goku, but his muscles lock up with Paralysis. The Snover’s bad luck continues as a Sludge Bomb arcs through the air and collides with his face.

    Witbier: <-12 HP; Can’t move!>
    Goku: <-4 EP; Zzz>
    Elliot: <-8 EP; Taunted; 2 clones>

All of a sudden... the Xatu balloon begins to lose altitude! Ahhh, not good! Witbier and Elliot peer over as another balloon shaped like an Ivysaur wafts over. They hope over onto the Ivysaur’s forehead, but… oh, look at that, the sleephead gets left behind! Just then, primal instinct rushes through Goku and the Infernape blinks himself away. Uhh, whoozawhatnow? Goku scratches his head as he gets up to his feet and sees the Ivysaur balloon drifting nearby. Shiiiit. At the last second, he performs a leap of epic proportions and lands on the Ivysaur just as the Xatu balloon slips down beneath the cloud cover out of sight.

    Goku: <; Awake!>
    Elliot: <; 2 clones>

    ‡ Post-Round ‡

Alrighty Witbier, that last round was not kind to us at all. Witbier, I want you to use a Giga Drain on Elliot, followed by a Solar Beam on Elliot, and end with a Solar Beam towards Goku, and try to knock him close to Elliot!

    ‡ Round 7 ‡

As the next round begins, Elliot looks decidedly worse for the wear, but don’t worry, little guy! Hang in there! Pleased to be awake, Goku zips in toward Elliot and tries to smack the Snubull with a speedy punch, but only manages to take out a clone. Witbier tests his luck and tries to grab hold of Elliot, but his hands grasp through a clone, too. Oh, phooey! Finally, Elliot spews out a balloon-boosted Sludge Bomb at Goku. Ugh, all of a sudden the Infernape isn’t feeling so good… could this be poison? Methinks it could.

    Witbier: <-7 EP>
    Goku: <-13 HP; -4 EP; Poisoned>
    Elliot: <-8 EP; 0 clones>

Determined to do some real damage, Goku sprays his foes with incredibly hot air that scalds their skin something nasty. Witbier is hurt but not dismayed, however, and uses the powerful sunlight to let loose a blistering burst of concentrated solar power that strikes Elliot and causes him to tumble backward. In an attempt to exact revenge, Elliot spits out another mass of poisonous goo, this one aimed for Witbier. The move scores a direct hit and the Snove, defeated, falls downward. Tiiiiimber!

    Witbier: <-35 HP; -10 EP>
    Goku: <-8 EP>
    Elliot: <-11 HP; -8 EP>

The poison then turns Goku’s stomach <-3 HP>.
