Default Back to Battle! DF44 vs DL ; Ref = Oslo

    6 v 6 Singles
    I'll send out first.
DQ: 2 Days Challenger / 1 Week Ref
Banned Moves: Bide ; Non-Damaging Sleep Causing Moves ; Attract ; Curse when used by a Ghost Type

    Arena:

Magnetic Bay: A surreal place that was found by accident, Magnetic Bay “attracts” the most adventurous Trainers out there. Think of a nice, relaxing beach by the bay, with tall mountains at the tips where the land separates the bay from the sea. Magnetic Bay is like that, but it gives the beach scene a whole new twist. The sand is fine lodestone, and it gives the beach a dark feel to it. On the sand there are also scraps of iron, though most are covered in the sand, as they are magnetic. As you make your way to the water, you will see it’s not actually water, but Mercury! How on earth can trainers be around such a deadly element, and how can pokemon battle around and in it? Who knows, but that’s the way it is. The mercury seems not to kill the pokemon, though if in contact they will receive mercury poisoning (like toxic). At the tips of the Magnetic bay are two large mountains, which almost completely block off the bay from the sea. They are composed mostly of lodestone as well, creating more magnetic fields, and these two masses of magnetic rock probably explain how there are floating rocks! Yes, the most interesting thing about Magnetic Bay is that over the Mercury lies (well floats) large chunks of rock, and because of certain magnetic fields (I won’t get into the scientific details and whatnot) the rocks float precariously over the bay! Most of the chunks are big enough for even the largest and heaviest of pokemon, though there are some smaller ones. The position of the floating rocks are not in a pattern: some are really high up above the bay, some are only ten feet above the liquid metal, and so on. The weather here is always cloudy, though it rarely precipitates.

Restrictions- No digging, No seismic activity, Steel types will be affected by the field

I'll begin by releasing Manbug, my Male Ledian with Swarm. Good Luck!

No probs! Also, no need to put me on the challenger list. I already have the required four badges, so I'm just waiting for our beloved mods to find the free time to hand over WO's old Gym position to me.

    ‡ Pre-Round ‡

    ‡ Round 1 ‡

Good day, ladies and gents, and welcome to the latest mindfuck of an arena brought to you from Dogfish44! This lovely beach, replete with trippy floaty boulders, will serve as the backdrop for an epic match between two of ASB’s most accomplished Gym Leaders. Dogfish and Darkly make quick strides through the sand as the come to stand face-to-face, both plucking Pokeballs from their belts. Oh, it’s on!

Flashes of red light consume the field as two scrappy Bugs are sent into battle. Dogfish summons a big-eyed ladybug into play while his opponent, on the other hand, releases a squat kind-of-a-turtle into the sand. The two Johto arthropods begin twitching with excitement as the battle commences.

Starting safe, Manbug erects a glowing silver barrier which hovers before him. Eyeing her foe’s defences, WB begins conservatively as well, throwing up a white energy veil which drapes itself around her body. Just like that, the wee Shuckle feels confident that she will be able to withstand any pesky status flung her way.

    Manbug: <-4 EP; Rft>
    Wreckin Ball: <-4 EP; Sgd>

Without warning, Manbug finds an empty patch of sand where he starts doing the jitterbug! (Geddit… jitterbug… ‘cause he’s a… yeahh.) WB watches with a vaguely bewildered expression as her Ledian foe is blessed with newfound strength. Waddling up toward him, WB throws caution to the wind and takes a big ol’ chomp out of Manbug’s ankle! What nerve! Though the typing and the Reflect together filter out the bulk of the move’s damage, WB starts to feel a curious surge of strength as well.

    Manbug: <-2 HP; -4 EP; +2 Att>
    Wreckin Ball: <-4 EP; +2 Att>

Closing his eyes, Manbug begins to hum as she enters a meditative state. Sensing that a storm’s a-comin’, WB recedes into her pockmarked shell and waits for the inevitable strike. Suddenly, coming alive, Manbug swoops down toward WB and cuts loose with one hell of a punch. Sent airborne, WB sails over the water and lands on one particularly large rock hovering some fifteen feet above the water. Ooh, that looks like fun.

    Manbug: <-13 EP>
    Wreckin Ball: <-17 HP; -2 EP; +1 Def>

    ‡ Post-Round ‡

    ‡ Round 2 ‡

Manbug hovers out over the rolling waves and approaches the floating rock on which WB stands. As his fist grows a curious shade of green, he swoops in and socks it to WB, sending the Shuckle tumbling back to the boulder’s far edge. Manbug closes his eyes as he is restored to full health. Latching onto the boulder’s many crags with his feelers, WB drums up some sort of primeval energy from deep within and unleashes it in a glistering blaze of a brown light. The AncientPower catches Manbug off-guard and sends him into a downward spiral.

    Manbug: <-14 HP; +2 HP; -6 EP>
    Wreckin Ball: <-10 HP; -4 EP>

Fortunately for Manbug, his wings kick in at the last second and he manages to stop himself from going kerplunk right into the bay. Remaining just a few feet above the surface, Manbug starts spinning about in the air. The sun overhead begins to blaze especially bright as the entire bay is enveloped by a warm glow. WB peers over the edge of his rock and begins clapping his little yellow tentacles together. Manbug looks up and blushes. They love him! They really love him!

    Manbug: <-4 EP; Encored>
    Wreckin Ball: <-4 EP>

Manbug goes for a repeat performance and resumes spinning in circles, thereby renewing his Sunny Day. WB pumps out a second brown energy attack, which cuts the second act of Manbug’s show short. With a splash, the Ledian hits the surface and begins floundering in the mercury.

Not that he really notices right at this very moment, but Manbug's Reflect pops out of existence nonetheless.

    Manbug: <-14 HP; -4 EP>
    Wreckin Ball: <-4 EP>

    ‡ Pre-Round ‡

    ‡ Round 3 ‡

Manbug pulls himself free from the mercury and flies upward… with a vengeance. He erects a translucent barrier of bright, golden light which hangs suspended before him. However, it does nothing to stop the sudden iron ball hurled his way. Manbug takes the hit to the gut and spins in the air, momentarily dazed. WB folds her little tentacle things and smirks even as she feels her strength leave her body.

    Manbug: <-16 HP; -4 EP; LSn>
    Wreckin Ball: <-10 EP; -2 Att>

With impressive form, Manbug regains his composure and begins deftly darting about in the air. Flying close, he lands a few quick swipes on WB. Once Manbug’s assault is over, WB takes him and strikes with another burst of prehistoric energy. Though the move does less damage thanks to the Light Screen, WB begins to feel the power of the ancients surge through her body.

    Manbug: <-7 HP; -4 EP>
    Wreckin Ball: <-10 HP; -4 EP; +1 Att; +1 Def; +1 SpA; +1 SpD; +1 Spd>

Making further use of his aerial prowess, Manbug swoops in and strikes with pinpoint precision. However, a purple patch of poisonous goo rises out of the bay and licks away at the Five Star Pokemon, coating him in noxious, bubbly gunk. While his Light Screen does filter out much of the damage, it’s still super-icky and downright eurgh.

WB frowns as her Safeguard flickers away to nothing.

    Manbug: <-6 HP; -4 EP>
    Wreckin Ball: <-8 HP; -8 EP>

    ‡ Pre-Round ‡

    ‡ Round 4 ‡

As the sun continues to blaze overhead, Manbug begins prepping another protective Reflect. However, when he sees that the fungus kickball is about to slap her slimy little tentacles together again, he does a 180 and instead smacks WB with a few aerial hits. Annoyed as the pest comes in again and again to deal damage, WB stays right on course and asks for an Encore.

    Manbug: <-4 EP; Encored>
    Wreckin Ball: <-11 HP; -4 EP>

Manbug, blushing, thinks that his Acrobatics really was beyond compare and decides to indulge WB’s desire to see it again. As she endures hit after hit once more, WB silences the attack with a powerful stony tackle. Manbug soars backward and lands on another floating rock some twenty feet away. His body begins to glow with a yellow-green light.

    Manbug: <-24 HP; -4 EP; Swarm>
    Wreckin Ball: <-11 HP; -8 EP>

Manbug shifts gears and, rather than returning to WB’s rock to keep fighting, he stays put. Recumbent on his own floating boulder, he begins to regain some of his lost energy. However, WB keeps up the assault and summons rocks to tumble downward from the heavens. Rock after rock collides with Manbug, bringing the Ledian to the brink of defeat. Oh, the woes of a widdle wadybug…

Not that it was doing a whole lot of good anyway, but Manbug's Light Screen winks out.

    Manbug: <-20 HP; +6 EP>
    Wreckin Ball: <-6 EP>

Still shimmering with a greenish glow, Manbug explodes with a flurry of strong and nimble movements. Taking flight, he darts toward WB’s rock and makes good use of all four of his arms. Combining two different punches with a series of sharp jabs, Manbug lets WB have it and is promptly rewarded with a sudden influx of health. Having been pummeled mercilessly, WB refuses to go easy and retaliates with a sudden rock toss which doinks Manbug in the side of the head. He tumbles down to the floating rock, grounded.

    Manbug: <-12 HP; -12 EP; +11 HP>

With those impressive feelers of hers, WB latches onto Manbug and squeezes and squeezes and squeezes.

    ‡ Round 6 ‡

Dogfish must now recall his Ledian into its Pokeball before making a new selection. He tosses a Pokeball onto the sandy shore and summons na oh-so-cute spherical seal into play. Chirping delightedly, 8-Ball hops into the mercury and swims out to get closer to the rock on which WB is still perched. Peering up at the hovering boulder, 8-Ball squirts out a sudden aquatic blast but not before WB can split into a line of clones and thereby obscure her position. The Water Pulse takes out the clone on the far right. The three remaining Shuckles happily slap their tentacles together in unison.

    8-Ball: <-4 EP>
    Wreckin Ball: <-4 EP; 2 clones>

8-Ball now must decide who her next target will be. Opting for the Shuckle on the far left, she shoots… and only manages to land a hit on one of the illusory fungus turtles. Amused, WB scrapes a bit of mud off the boulder and flings it downward at her seafaring foe. The stuff gets in 8-Ball’s eyes and, yurgh, it’s just awful.

    8-Ball: <-2 HP; -2 EP; -1 Acc>
    Wreckin Ball: <-2 EP; 1 clone>

Irked that things don’t seem to be going her way, 8-Ball tries for one final Water Pulse just as WB begins hacking up some noxious, steaming goo from within her chest cavity. The two amorphous attacks sail by one another in the area, each scoring a hit. 8-Ball suffers the effect of the Toxic while WB, on the other hand, is sent tumbling to the edge of the rock. She looks like she's about to perish but, suddenly, her body flashes white and she seems just Sturdy enough to carry on. Her clone, however, vanishes.

    8-Ball: <-4 EP; Txc>

8-Ball shivers as the poison starts to do its poisony thang <-3 HP>.

Though WB’s ability managed to save her skinny yellow neck last round, lightning won’t strike twice. 8-Ball squirts another jet of water at WB just as the Shuckle slaps her feelers against the rock. Swells of sand rise from the beach and blow out over the water just as WB, actually defeated this time, is sent tumbling from her rocky perch into the mercury below.

    ‡ Pre-Round ‡

    ‡ Round 8 ‡

8-Ball paddles back to shore as DL releases his second Pokemon onto the sandy beach: a silvery seed with a chip on his shoulder. This new release begins to hum as his body rises a couple of feet into the air, magnetically repelled off the ground. As well, the dark sand that composes the beach begins to whip around erratically from the presence of this unexpected Steel-type, though this fact goes largely unnoticed what with the Sandstorm already raging around us.

8-Ball claps her flippers together and calls hailstones down from the heavens. They quell the Sandstorm in progress, but the magnetic sand kicked up by IEC’d continues to blow about. With two weather effects in play, it’s a wonder IEC’d’s Leech Seed doesn’t get blown astray as he shoots it at 8-Ball. It latches onto the Spheal and begins to glow.

    8-Ball: <-4 EP; LSd>
    IEC’d: <-4 EP>

As sand and hail continues to bluster about, 8-Ball bounces into the air and slams the full force of her bulk against the ground. However, with IEC’d hovering there in the air, he’s entirely unscathed by the Ground-type move. With a free hit, he lays a few rocks in strategic locations around the field. Sneaky little so-and-so.

    8-Ball: <-8 EP; SRk>
    IEC’d: <-4 EP>

Growling over the fact that her last attack was completely neutered, 8-Ball enacts some frigid justice with an Ice Beam. The blue-white blast sends shivers down the Ferroseed’s, uh, hypocotyl. Still ahead in terms of health, IEC’d decides he can afford to continue laying some pesky traps and fires off an array of cunning burrs. Sneaky little sneak!

    8-Ball: <-8 EP; Spk>
    IEC’d: <-12 HP; -4 EP>

8-Ball winces as the Toxin begins to feel like turpentine running through her veins <-7 HP>. The sand magnetically kicked up by IEC'd grates against her skin <-3 HP>, but the falling Hail handily offsets this fact <+3 HP> what with her Ice Body and all. A little bit of health is sapped from 8-Ball due to the Leech Seed <-3 HP> before getting promptly transferred to IEC'd <+3 HP>. However, IEC'd loses this happy little health boost to the falling ice flecks <-3 HP>.

    Longest effects tally EVER.

    ‡ Pre-Round ‡

    ‡ Round 9 ‡

The battle continues amidst all this sand and hail as Dogfish’s widdle Spheal finds an empty Dwebble shell as decides to make it her Substitute. She diverts a little bit of health to the thing and it glows with this bizarre little bit of magic. IEC’d, however, pays this hocus pocus no mind and spies some glittering sea glass nestled beneath a bit of driftwood. The Ferroseed waddles close and begins running his barbs against the smooth glass, sharpening his edges and points effectively.

    8-Ball: <-10 HP; -4 EP; Sub: 10 HP>
    IEC’d: <-4 EP; +1 Att; +1 Acc>

8-Ball suddenly opens wide and lets out a big, goofy Yawn! The Yawn materializes as a tiny puff of air which flounces toward IEC’s and bursts against the Ferroseed, causing mild but immediate drowsiness. Perhaps it’s the fatigue, but IEC’d seems to think it’s a good idea to give a Thunder Wave a go. He releases the attack in a broad cone of electric current which crackles and fizzles around the Dwebble shell without accomplishing much at all.

    8-Ball: <-4 EP; Sub: 10 HP>
    IEC’d: <-4 EP; Drowsy>

Like the seal she is, 8-Ball starts vigorously clapping her flippers together and accompanies this with an enthusiastic arf-arf. IEC’d blushes and decides a repeat performance is simply necessary. Through a veil of sand and hail, she fires off a second burst of electricity which does much the same as the first—which is to say, nothing. IEC’d begins to yawn and teeter precariously, which hints toward the fact that he’s soon going to fall asleep.

    8-Ball: <-4 EP; Sub: 10 HP>
    IEC’d: <-4 EP>

Poor 8-Ball must suffer the effects of the strengthening Toxin <-9 HP> as well as the grating sand <-3 HP>, but finds reprieve thanks to the falling Hail <+3 HP>. IEC'd, meanwhile, gains health from the Leech Seed <+3 HP> only to lose it to the cold snap <-3 HP>.
