Sounds good Gig, looking forward to a good match
Phantom, let's start this off by setting up a bit. First let's lock-up Ueo's movements a bit with a jolt of electricity, then follow that up by giving him a nice big burn and then we'll take advantage of those statuses by using some dark magic to bust him up nicely!
Thunder Wave ~ Will-o-Wisp ~ Hex
Now all we need is a Ref![]()

‡ Round 1 ‡
Good day, ladies and gents, and welcome to... what did they call this place? Oh, right, De-Generator! Here, on this platform soaring miles above all of TPM, an exciting battle will take place between Perfect Chas and Gigya. Who will win? Who will lose? And who will stumble over their shoelaces and fall off the flying platform and then plummet to an untimely/gruesome death? Hopefully, uh, nobody. Anyway, let's begin!
Perfect Chaos summons an amorphous blue spectre to the field while Gigya calls out a turtle-ish thing sporting what looks like a pair of Squirtle Squad sunglasses. The battle gets underway as Phantom sparkles with electric current that she generously doles out to poor Ueo. The Shuckle loses a little bit of his badass attitude as his muscles go stiff and rigid, but he nonetheless keeps it together for a massive Sludge Wave. The poisonous gunk swells toward Phantom but doesn't do a whole lot of damage. Resistance to Poison ftw.
Phantom: <-5 HP; -4 EP>
Ueo: <-8 EP; Par>
Phantom once again plays the Status card... and this time it's fiery! He belches out a tiny blue flame that wafts across the battlefield and strikes Ueo, inducing an immediate Burn. Ueo nonetheless responds with an explosive burst of sludge that doesn't do a whole lot of damage to Phantom but nonetheless leaves him with a stomach ache. She doesn't feel too good all of a sudden...
Phantom: <-5 HP; -4 EP; Psn>
Ueo: <-7 EP; Brn>
Shenanigans continue as Phantom mutters some strange words in an even stranger language. Ueo then winces as the strange Hex suddenly begins to rob him of health. Ueo once again manages to bypass Paralysis by striking with a third Poison-type attack. This one does more damage than the last two, but it's still nothing to write home about. Can you say... frustrating?
Phantom: <-7 HP; -3 EP>
Ueo: <-12 HP; -5 EP>
Phantom winces as the Poison robs him of a spot of health <-2 HP>, as does Ueo when his Burn flares up <-2 HP>.

Thanks for reffing Oslo, this'll be fun
Good start to the round Phantom, let's pick up the pace a bit! Let's keep up the whole status bid by adding a toxic poison to the mix! After that, try some more dark magic to really lay some havoc and finish off by slashing him with a ghostly claw
If he tries to Protect or Safeguard, use Calm Mind to focus and prepare yourself. Snatch any stat boosts he may try using and Magic Coat back any status-inducing attacks he tries!
Toxic ~ Hex ~ Shadow Claw
Subs:
Use Protect/Safeguard: Calm Mind
Use stat-boosting moves: Snatch
Use status-inducing moves: Magic Coat
Protect, Acupressurex2.
Yes... Steal my stat "boosts"
Doh, I forgot Ueo has Contrary, this is gonna suck![]()

The main event continues as Gigya's sturdy little Shuckle attempts to toss up a translucent shield of energy that might Protect himself from further harm. The Protect doesn't work but, um, his paper weight impersonation skills appear to be top-notch. What poise! What form! This is one dedicated thespian.
The dedicated thespian then takes a Toxic to the face. Yurgh.
Phantom: <-4 EP>
Ueo: <Can't move!>
Phantom waits patiently to see what his opponent does next. When Ueo procures a needle out of nowhere and plunges it into one of his tentacles, Phantom eagerly Snatches the incipient stat boost. Phantom's Special Defensive prowess rises.
Phantom: <-4 EP; +2 SpD>
Ueo: <-4 EP>
As it turns out, some folks don't learn from their mistakes... and Ueo is one of 'em. Ueo once again performs an Acupressure which Phantom eagerly Snatches. This time, Phantom's regular Defence stat is the one that gets boosted.
Phantom: <-4 EP; +2 Def>
Ueo: <-4 EP>
Phantom's loses a spot of health to the Poison <-3 HP> while Ueo loses double health from the combined effects of the Burn <-3 HP> and Toxin <-3 HP>.

So uh Oslo, don't mean to put a damper on your reffing, but apparently Acupressure can't be Snatched, according to Bulbapedia. I was just looking through it cause I thought that if I used Snatch on the Acupressure, then I wouldn't get the stat loss since it's stealing the attack and not the actual stat boosts from Ueo.
I'm not 100% positive on this, so maybe a Head Ref can clear it up. And also Oslo, I'm not trying to say you did the reffing wrong or anything like that, just wanted to clear up any confusion I may have![]()
No worries! I have no problem with battlers requesting corrections when they think I've screwed up. It happens from time to time.
Acupressure isn't Snatchable in the games, but it is according to the Movelist (which generally precedence when there's a discrepancy):
As for whether or not Snatch would result in a positive or negative boost when used against a Contrary Pokemon... I could see it going either way. Maybe someone could bust out their version of B/W and test it out?
The way I see it, the boosts only negatively effect Contrary users, and not anyone else. So if someone were to Snatch the boosts, they'd still get the positive effects unless they also had Contrary as their ability.
-Grey
Oh right, totally forgot to check the Movelist thread beforehand >_>
Makes sense to me! Fixed.
(Also, why do I always get the weird reffing situations?)
I'm still okay with this. Guard Split, Gyro Ball, and, although I hate falling back on this, Rest
Protect yourself against that Guard Split, then hit Ueo with some souped up dark magic. He wants to sleep? Make him regret doing so by nom noming on his dreams and restore some of your health

‡ Round 3 ‡
Envious of his opponent's sexy new modifiers, Ueo attempts to split the difference and nab some boosts for himself. However, the attempt does work: before Ueo can initiate the move, Phantom Protects himself within a translucent barrier. The Ghostie blows Ueo a raspberry.
Phantom: <-8 EP>
Ueo: <-4 EP>
Once again, Ueo's body is rendered entirely immobile. Drat. Thus, the Shuckle can only attempt to counter Phantom's forthcoming Hex through, um, the powers of positive thinking? C'mon, optimism! Ueo thinks bright, sunshiney thoughts but even those are not enough to dispel the dark magic Phantom inflicts upon him. Ueo loses even more health. Bah. Optimism can suck it.
Phantom: <-3 EP>
Ueo: <-12 HP; Can't move!>
Not exactly thrilled with how things are going, Ueo decides to check out of the battle altogether. The Shuckle closes his eyes and gets airlifted away to a wonderful dreamscape where the hot, scantily clad she-Shuckles feed him spoiled Berries by the bushel. However, the dream takes an unpleasant turn as those wonderful she-Shuckles suddenly get gobbled away. They're promptly replaced by a mob of Shuckle thugs who start whacking Ueo over the head with heavy crowbars. Ahh! Meanwhile, back in the real world, Phantom snickers ebilly and feels his health rising.
Phantom: <+5 HP; -8 EP>
Ueo: <+30 HP; -10 HP; -30 EP; Slp; Brn no more; Par no more; Txc no more>
Right on cue, Phantom winces as his status robs him of health <-3 HP>. Meanwhile, the De-Generator comes to life and a series of rapidly changing numbers appears over the battlers' heads. The numbers stop: Phantom scores a 23 while Ueo rolls a 102. Phantom releases a wave of invisible energy that binds him and his opponent together while a strange leaf appears over Ueo's head. Hrm.

I'm not sure you want to unleash something like that on the world.

Hmm well back to square one Phantom! First start by making sure he won't be able sleep and heal himself again then follow that up by continuing to feast on his dreams while he continues to slumber.

Phantom closes his eyes and casts and utters a strange incantation. A bizarre and constricting energy envelops washes over Ueo, who is now locked out of any further Rest attempts. Suddenly, the Shuckle starts babbling in his sleep and procures another needle out of nowhere. Er, deja-vu? He presses it into one of his tentacles and receives a boost that, fortunately, does not get Snatched. Huzzah.
Phantom: <-4 EP>
Ueo: <-4 EP;Rest; +2 Att>
Ueo, however, doesn't even notice his boost. He's too busy enjoying the cool ocean breeze while letting the hot she-Shuckles fan him with palm fronds. Suddenly, one particularly enamouring she-Shuckle struts up toward him.
Ueo asks if she'd like to come back to his cabana sometime. Suddenly, the she-Shuckle transforms into a Trapinch and takes a big ol' chomp out of Ueo's face. Ahhh! The hell? You coulda just said no! Back in the real world, Ueo responds to the Dream Eater by commanding the earth to shake and shimmy about. Being a floatin' Ghostie, you'd think Phantom would be immune, but alas, he's tossed to the ground rather abruptly. Damn Shadow Tag. What does a Ghost have to do to score a Wonder Guard over here?
Phantom: <-10 HP; +5 HP; -8 EP>
Ueo: <-10 HP; -8 EP>
The she-Shuckles continue their vicious assault as Phantom gobbles even more dreams. Surely those things can't taste very good, but Phantom seems to enjoy their effects. Ueo, meanwhile, lets loose with another Sleep Talk. Suddenly, a Safeguard drifts over his body. Ooh. It's not enough to wake him but, y'know, it's still pretty cool.

Keep Sleep Talking.
If you wake up after Phantom has used a Dream Eater, use Encore.
Otherwise, when you wake up, use Toxic, then Earthquake til the end of the round.
Awesome sprite work Gig, major kudos to you
Hmm...alright Phantom let's boost ourselves up a bit by copying Ueo's boosts then follow up by hitting him with ghostly claw. Finish off with shooting him with a hunk of garbage
Psych Up ~ Shadow Claw ~ Gunk Shot
Subs for when Ueo wakes up: Use Safeguard against the Toxic, then follow up with Psych Up and Shadow Claw
So while I absolutely love Oslo's quirkiness and style of reffing, I'm bumping this topic cause I'd like to find a sub-ref to finish it
Still looking for a sub-ref
o.O Whilst I could sub ref this...Oslo may also be back in 5 days :/ Your call.

Ueo is saved from the she-Shuckle assault as he abruptly wakes. Anticipating what's about to come, Phantom cloaks himself in a white veil of energy as Ueo barfs out a glob of bubbling grossness. The Toxic hits Phantom but then slides clear off him without leaving a mark. Phantom sniggers. Nice try, fungus ball.
Phantom: <-4 EP; Sgd>
Ueo: <-4 EP; Slp no more>
Deciding Attack is so much cooler than Defence or Special Defence, Phantom studies his opponent and attempts to copy his stat boosts. After a second... yep, he's successful! His defensive prowess takes a nosedive as a result, which leaves him vulnerable for Ueo's forthcoming Earthquake. The arena shakes and shimmies about and Phantom is hurled into the ground.
Phantom: <-12 HP; -4 EP; -2 SpD; -2 Def; +2 Att>
Ueo: <-8 EP>
Phantom now decides to rip into Ueo with a Shadow Claw... which I'm sure would work well if he could learn that move, but he can't. Heck, he doesn't even have claws! As Phantom ponders the metaphysics of Ghostness, another Earthquake care of Ueo sends him crashing back down to the ground. Rawr.

As the match continues, Phantom closes his eyes and vanishes out of sight. Eep! What is this witchcraft? All is explained seconds later as he reappears behind Ueo and lashes out at the Shuckle with a sudden strike. Ueo, however, decides he's simply too tuckered out to fight back. He closes his eyes and Relaxes instead.
Phantom: <-4 EP>
Ueo: <-8 HP; +6 EP>
Phantom prepares to execute his trainer's commands and... pauses. Er. Foul Play? So, how does that work again? It seems as though that's a technique he hasn't mastered quite yet. Give it a couple more months, prolly. Ueo then tosses some covert rocks down on Phantom's side of the field. Stealthy!
Phantom: <SRk>
Ueo: <-4 EP>
Trying something that's a little more familiar, Phantom blasts Ueo with some random Ghost-type energy. Using what very little strength he has left, Ueo spins around like a top and then launches itself into Phantom. It's a minor hit but methinks it might just get stronger as time goes on.
Phantom: <-5 HP; -6 EP>
Ueo: <-10 HP; -1 EP>
Phantom loses more health from the Poison <-3 HP>. Meanwhile, numbers materialize over the battlers heads: Phantom scores a 44 and Ueo finds himself with a 157. Now what kind of effect could that have had?

With both Pogeys rockin' new abilities, it's time for a change in tactics... for Phantom, anyway. The Shuppet shows off his best dance moves, which singlehandedly cause clouds to gather and rain to pound the arena. Ueo, meanwhile, continues spinnin' as he hurdles forward toward Shuppet. Pow!
Phantom: <-4 HP; -4 EP>
Ueo: <-2 EP>
As rain continues to fall in sheets, Phantom decides to use it to his advantage. Despite Ueo's erratic movements, the rain helps to conduct Phantom's sudden Thunderous strike and direct it to its target. Ueo, however, remains undeterred and hurdles forward for yet another Rollout. Slick though the ground may be, the Shuckle certainly seems to be coping admirably.
Ueo's Safeguard winks out.
Phantom: <-8 HP; -10 EP>
Ueo: <-12 HP; -3 EP; -1 HP fatigue>
Phantom discharges yet another Thunder, which seems to have an additional effect: Ueo's muscles (if a Shuckle can be said to have muscles) lock up and the fungus ball is rendered immobile. With that, his rockin' and rollin' comes to a premature end. Sadface. If only that Safeguard had lasted just a little bit longer.
Phantom's Safeguard vanishes, too.
Phantom: <-10 EP>
Ueo: <-12 HP; Par; Can't move!>
