I agree with Goodnight Seadra. Very realistic emotions. It's interesting seing how the mods are handling this individually. Gavin's trying to take care of teh official stuff and get back to business as well as mourning, 'I'm' just wallowing in my own misery (how spot-on) and Brian can't believe it. Panel 5 reminds me of way back in chapter 3 when Brian was telling 'us' about trouble rising and 'me' not wanting to ask if he thought it was April Fool's Day. How things have changed since then... Also interesting to see that Gavin does the public stuff, Brian does the tech stuff (as if) and the behind-the-scenes stuff and 'I' just do... whatever?

Hang on, where's Becca while all this is going on? The 'prisoner' could have escaped by now!

So now the surviving mods are trying to get over a tragedy that, unbeknownst to them, couldn't have come at a worse time. I count at least two groups that could profit from this, and strike when they are vulnerable...

Sure, it isn't sporting, but this is war...

    What will develop?

First of all, I love that first panel. Second, I must say that you did an excellent job of portraying mr_pikachu's denial in that page.

Seadra: Hehe, thanks. I suppose that seeing everything up until the end made it all the more twisted for him. I'm glad it wasn't overdramatic... hopefully I can keep from going too far overboard in the pages to follow.

Ada: I'm glad my role-playing worked! One of the things I detest about some works is when all the characters respond to a big event in exactly the same way; it's like the stereotypical "everybody cried out in unison" thing. Not that I'm always innocent of that, but... I'm glad this worked better. I actually hadn't thought about any reference to the "April Fool's" line when I wrote that, but I can see where it might come up. Yes, the tone has changed rather drastically since the first few pages. And the roles may become a lot clearer now that there's one fewer mod on the team.

As for Becca... think she escaped before the lockdown? We shall see...

DS: I think they're aware that a lot of things are happening at once. They just aren't aware of everything. And it's possible that someone might benefit from this... but who?

You say that "this is war"? Are you trying to preemptively escape any blame for something your character may or may not do in the future?

    Developments will follow!

Blade: Oh, right. Stages of death. Didn't get the acronym at first.

Martin has fallen, and this opens up a lot of possibilities for a lot of people. What will happen next?

As for your new Eyebrows Man guess, feel free to PM me about it if you like. If you happen to be wrong, I could use a good laugh. Either way, don't expect me to respond in the positive or negative... don't want to give away too much, now!

Sike: The first panel is something I've wanted to try for a long time. Figured this was an appropriately huge moment in which to do it. And thanks for the compliment about mr_pika's denial. Hopefully the portrayals will remain effective!

    Mmm... pocky.

#94: fireguardian makes his first appearance! And it seems as if Charles Legend, ace reporter, is working for him...

I frantically made this page about three hours before posting it. See, I had a page already completed, but I realized that I needed something else to happen first. So here we are.

Oh, and this title's based upon the concept of "free speech," one of the biggest American ideals.
    IT HAS RETURNED.

First reply in this after much lurk-reading. Woo.

Really interesting concept starting up in the last few strips. Especially 92 - Brian, so calm and happy, then hearing that Martin was slain...great. Pretty emotional, especially with the silent panel at the end.

    And now we see fireguardian and Charles Legend introduced, and the arc continues. Although I ask one thing - how did fireguardian suit up to being Zenigata? Must be a loveable, hard-working oaf thing, but fireguardian as an oaf? Weird... o_o;

All I can say is, keep up the good work, and that I like where this thread is going.

    A whole week? Egad!

#92: Poor Brian, trying to keep his hopes alive until that fifth panel. What an effective shot. And the last one, naturally, conveyed the full force of his shock.

#93: Emotional page - shock, disbelief, denial. Brian's speaking about Martin like he was Dumbledore or something. But I suppose he would have considered him to be a great deal more experienced or powerful than the other three of them are. I liked the use of ellipses to denote silences - I'm sure this has been used throughout the fic, but it just caught my attention on this page, and I realised there was no other way to really signify a pause or silence before a character speaks other than that.

#94: Fireguardian appears! Charles looks evil. Hoorah for Gavin wielding mod power ... although the 'real' Gavin would be very angry about free speech being 'stifled' so to speak. But that's neither here nor there!

#95: When Ada speaks, it's important! Damn straight. Even if Brian is grieving for Martin, he needs to pull himself together! Ada and Gavin are trying to. It's the only way they'll have a chance of working out what's going on. Additionally, Ada's hat in panel 5 looked one of those pith helmets those old explorers used to wear in the desert ... that made me laugh, even though I'm sure that's not what it is really.

#96: Charles IS evil! Or close to it - subversive, perhaps? In any case, this is interesting. Who is allied/working with? Good call with making fireguardian's anime character a news broadcaster - he looks quite stereotypically journalistic.

#97: "The mods have always been good to me." Hmm, gratitude and integrity, despite not necessarily being the nicest person. I like that. Thus I quite like fireguardian's character - at this stage, anyway. In unrelated news, I really want to see Rush Hour 3 ... dunno if it's out yet though.

#98: Hehehe. Ada slapped him. Well, if it's brought him out of his reverie, then it was worth it. It's not healthy to dwell on that kind of stuff, even if it seems like you need to. ... Anyway, the frying pan reference made me laugh! And the computers are back to norma, thank God ... now let's see what's going on ...

#99: Just when the action seemed to have ebbed - another alien! I still think Gavin will go and hold his conference, and maybe then the mods will go to investigate the newcomer. But I wonder if she is necessarily talking to Eyebrow-Man in that shot. The conversation between her and the unseen character makes me think it could be Mega Horny, just because of the "I'm not a kid" comment ... I'm sure he's said that before in the fic ... In any case, couldn't the mods just swivel their view to see who the alien chick is talking to? Hmmm. Interesting indeed. And what will come of this next moderator that will be 'revealed'?

I'm really enjoying this still, Brian. It seems to me that the scripting has been getting better lately - not that it was bad before, of course, it's been great from the start - but it's starting to feel more in-depth. And I get the feeling that you're really setting things up to fit a greater plotline now, moreso than ever before.

And now, page 100 is imminent. Will you be making a 'third book' of WotF after the next page? In any case, I'll be reading!
