I got "Brawl" early yesterday morning at Super Wal-Mart, and I'd just like to say...

I LOVE THIS GAME!!

Actually, there's more to it than that...I didn't think of it when I last posted, but another reason I felt there should be a new "Brawl" topic is because this is mainly pre-release discussion. I was thinking that in the new topic, we could discuss things like characters we like, what we've done in the game so far, stuff like that.

Oh, and I still feel sorry for the PAL folks.

This game was definitely worth the wait for me, though, so I hope it'll be the same way for you.

Personally, I haven't had any problems, but I feel very sorry for the people who do. I hope you guys don't run into this!

I have to say I like this game alot more than melee. It's a pace is closer to that of the first game which is nice. Also characters like Fox and Falco are still good but not as overpowered as they once were.

My two complaints so far are some characters final smashes suck and the SBE is pretty lame. It's got great cutscenes but I think they just need to give up on trying to make Smash Bros. an interesting single player game.

Ironic. The SSE is the only thing keeping me playing at this point. It's all that's distinguishing this game from Melee since evidently Wi-Fi DOESN'T EVER WORK.

This game definitely suffered from Halo 3 Syndrome, in my opinion.

Me and my brothers rolled through SSE pretty quick. We made it to the Great Maze (last level) on Sunday, and beat Tabuu the next day. I wish they had given more incentive to go back and play it again, after all, once you get 100% completion I can't think of any reason to go back in.

The multiplayer is great as always, the Smash Ball really adds a crazy and sometimes frustrating new element. My brother has beaten on the thing only to have someone come out of nowhere and break it open, happened to him twice before he decided to turn it off. I also love the little touches, like when playing with the Wii remote, the character's voice comes out of the remote speaker when you select them, being able to take pictures in any mode, the fireflower looks like it does in Galaxy, and the AI is better (and less likely to walk into a fully charged smash attack), but I still have seen plenty of AI stupidity on custom stages. Speaking of which, that's probably my favorite part of the game, I just wish there were more backgrounds and probably looser restrictions on size and number of pieces, art shouldn't be constrained! As for the online, I haven't really tried it yet (dodges thrown hammer heads and Bomb-ombs), all the talk about lag and difficulty connecting has been scaring me off, I'll wait until there isn't as much strain on the system.

EDIT: Realize that's vague. More so, are there secret doors I'm missing or what, like I mean the first two stages, do I gotta go save Peach first? And be Mario for a bit or something?

If you're missing secret doors you should be able to tell based on the icons over the different stages (a flag means you beat it, a crown means you got everything there is to get there).

So my friend imported it so I've finally been able to play it.

I was pretty drunk while playing it but it was really good. I loved Sonic, Snake and, surprisingly, Dedede. The final smashes were pretty cool too. I can't wait for it to come out here proper so I can play some SSE.

Anyone else here love the way Wolf looks in this game? OMG, his Mohawk is awesome!

My brother and I got through the SSE once, and then got into Classic to unlock the remaining characters. I still love Yoshi and Ice Climbers (as well as their Final Smashes), and R.O.B. isn't all that bad. But getting all three pieces of the Dragoon causes mayhem I never thought possible.

I thought a flag meant you missed something in the stage. I know that in "The Plain" (I think that's what it's called) stage, I had that little flag for awhile and I couldn't figure out what I was missing.

Then I got the strategy guide and I read that in that one part with the big wall of breakable blocks, there's a row that's virtually off the top of the screen. If you jump up there and break that row of blocks, you'll uncover items that you can't really see but can pick up. I did that, and when I cleared the stage (remembering to do the wall jump up to the secret red door), the little flag disappeared!

I haven't had much trouble at all finding matches on wfc. Sometimes it will time out waiting for opponents but usually a second attempt gets me at least two opponents.

R.O.B. is only ok?! He's freaking awesome!!! Strong, easy to use, spectacular comeback ability, really hard to knock out of the arena....... aside from against Ike, I can keep R.O.B. fighting till well upwards of 200% damage.

I had a copy imported at the beginning of the month (couldn't wait), and it has been rather fun. Though SSE was a bit tedious and I haven't had much chance to play with friends.

The Wifi has been fine though, apart from my first few games, which were laggy, every game since has been fine, which I think is because of more people in the UK importing Brawl

So has anyone been keeping up with the Dojo updates? Friday's update had something in it that made me chuckle:

To this point, I’ve received a great number of screenshots that focus on peeking at the undergarments of certain Brawl combatants. So let me just say it again—shots like these will never be posted to the Dojo or sent out to users via the Smash Service.

Sadly though it looks like tomorrow's update will be the last. I'm going to miss those Sakuraiisms. At least some of the trophy descriptions in brawl seem to have some in them.

There's going to be a PAL version of this game? I'm hoping Mario Kart will tide me over for a while. And I must admit, it's looking like a pretty good distraction on the multiplayer facet. Sakurai is a bastard.

This Smash blog has spanned about 300 posts in almost 11 months, but now the time to say goodbye has come.
Before creating this site, I proposed that it should be updated 5 days a week and support several languages. It was clear that this would be a massive undertaking for a website dedicated to a single game.
A lot of people around me were particularly concerned when I told them I planned to write blog posts while development was ongoing and continue to provide updates. Some argued, some just looked concerned and others asked, "Can you really do this?!"
But all of the text in the articles was written by yours truly, Masahiro Sakurai. Make no mistake.

Was it really so hard to log in everyday, spend five minutes writing some of the most useless drivel on the planet (e.g. Pokemon Trainer's page: Is he...IS HE ISSUING ORDERS?!!!!!!!!! OMFG!!!!!!!!). There were only two posts that anyone actually cared about. Sakurai could have saved both himself and us a lot of bother if he actually said at the start:

- Sonic is in Brawl.
- Ganondorf is still a cack Captain Falcon clone
- We kept the Ice Climbers...because we hate you that much
- And we will never release this game as PAL

However, the real credit for making the impossible a reality should go to the Brawl staff who took screenshots and did follow-up work, and the Nintendo home-page staff who did the updates.
I also must thank the localisation staff of Nintendo of America and the language specialists on the European production staff who handled the translation to several languages.
I feel gratitude that words cannot express. This site has been supported by so many staff members.
I created the Dojo with the intention of offering breaking news-type updates prior to the release of the game, and organising the site so that it could be used as a database of features in the game after its release.
Now that Brawl is available, I am hoping that players will continue to use the site as a resource for information.

We would still use it as information, except pretty much everything is behind a stupid question mark, despite pretty much everyone knowing the full roster since the first day of release.

...But wait a second! The European version still isn’t out yet!! We’re still hard at work on it, so please hold on a little longer! Also, there’s always a chance that I will need to update sometime in the future with some kind of announcement.

How much longer? I've already played an imported American copy and it plays fine to me. You don't need to add other languages, since no one speaks German or French and pretty much everyone speaks English, just release it already!
