My campus got hit by a tornado on Wednesday, during freshman orientation. Just an interesting tidbit of news I guess... I survived a tornado!

Like Bush or Hate him, it was incredibly dicky of these people to ruin the naturalization ceramony of 70 people, becuase you believed it was more important to act like a little bitch and yell during a speach. How utterly disgusting of the scum that did this.

Well like Bush said, "We in America believe in free speech". But you're quite right. There are some places where demonstrations/protests should not be held and this was one of those.

And to think some soldiers funerals have those type of people attending. Now that's disgusting.

I really don't see what the problem is. American children should be learning a second language besides English. I think you're upset because he criticised the fact that people get so uppity about too many people not learning English. Now that on itself is a fair point. One shouldn't have in their country people that can't speak the language. And yet Americans, New Zealanders, British, Australians and South Africans are quite happy to live elsewhere and they don't speak the language of the country where they live period. Its a hypocritical statement.

There was nothing that Obama said to be that angry about. Period.

We should, but we shouldn't be forced to learn one becuase of the laziness of people that shouldn't even be in this country.

See that is funny becuase by and large I have never believed that statement. I can understand going on a vacation to another country, and not learning the language. That is why we have so many different language pamplets in places like Disney Land and what not. But if you move legally to another country, by and large people learn to speak the language there and integrate into the country. Infact I believe that for many countries you have to actually learn the language to gain citizenship, I know that is the way it is here. Problem is that we have so many Illegals that are coming over here believing this is Mexico Part 2. And doing nothing to integrate. That it becomes incredibly frustrating. So instead of actually dealing with the illegals who unlike what Obama says, WONT LEARN ENGLISH. He believes we should learn Spanish to facilitate these people who do not deserve to be over here in the first place.

Yeah there was, how we need to learn Spanish to help the Illegals who shouldn't be here. That he is embarassed of Americans. And how he cannot understand how people in this country want to have a English first initative.

You have no idea how furstrating and disgusting it is to hear this man talk about how we need to learn Spanish just so that we can help people who should not even be here

Edit: Sorry if I sound so angry over this, but you have to realize how frustrating it is to see everyday how Illegals refuse to intigrate into a society that they shouldn't even be in, in the first place. And then have Obama tell us, that we should learn Spanish becuase of the laziness of these people.

Unfortunately, for some of us, that is an economic reality. You see, I'm planning to become a teacher. If I plan to teach anywhere other than my hometown, I will essentially need Spanish to be marketable. It's not just illegals; some Mexican-born naturalized citizens who followed the process just never learn English, even though taking an ESL class is a required part of said process. I've read stories of legal immigrants who literally just sit in ESL classrooms for six weeks, demand their paper to be signed, and leave with absolutely no knowledge gained.

It's not that I'm happy about it. I like English. Heck, I like German. I do not like Spanish. For me, though, it's a harsh reality.

MToolen, I'm not sure how it is for Illinois, but I know at least Florida (and likely other states with a significant Latino population) requires teachers to take classes to help ESL students before becoming certified to teach.

Unfortunately, seeing as that my non-English languages are French and Japanese, I may be forced to live elsewhere in the future, even though my plans are not set on education.

    I would love to learn Japanese! I just have a major problem with learning languages ;.;

Anyway Toxicity. As great as it is to learn those, you will probably have to learn Spanish if Obama has his way. And not Spain Spanish, I'm talking about Slang Spanish that is only usable in the third world country we like to call Mexico. All in a effort to help people who shouldn't be here in the first place...

You know if Obama want's us to start learning languages other than Spanish, how about we learn a language that is used alot in this country already. Yes I demand a Ebonic's class before we start having to learn Mexican Spanish.

Regardless of how I actually feel about learning Spanish (learning a foreign language here is compulsory...boohoo, get off your asses and get some culture already), I'd hardly call Mexico a 'third-world country', considering it is considered developed by the U.N. and has a high HDI rating. If Mexico is third-world, then so is Russia, China, Morocco, Thailand, take your pick, since they're all worse off than Mexico.

I don't really have an opinion otherwise, but if a government in the UK tries to teach my kids either Arab or Polish, I will sure as hell show them how far I will stick my boot up their collective asshole.

Meeting the actual criteria, and seeing the place are two different things. Granted there are areas of Mexico that are developed, but there is also a large part of Mexico in which they live in utter poverty, as well as have absolutely no security. Infact there are some areas of Mexico where I would say it is just as dangerous to be a white man there, as it is in Syria.

So I take it you can understand why I want to stick my boot up Obama's ass for the stupidity of making us learn Spanish to comfort criminals who shouldnt be here in the first place?

The poverty line differs from country to country. There are millions in the US that live in relative poverty. Relatively, there are more in relative poverty in Mexico than in the US, but I'd imagine there is little absolute poverty in Mexico. The fact is, it is unjustifiable to call Mexico a third-world country. I'd wager you to go to Mexico, then go to any African nation like Sudan, which isn't even the bottom ten, and then you'd see a real third world country. Mexico is far more developed and I'd guarantee any Mexican would be offended if you called their homeland an impoverished third-world nation.

Alright that is fair enough, but mind you there are other things that help factor into a third world country other than poverty. But either way it should not be a subject of debate. As for any Mexican feeling offended. After seeing countless stories of the gangs that are just miles away across the border, and them gunning down cops in broad daylight as they maintain control over towns. I really could care less how Mexicans feel.

XD I love that. Put me firmly at the sliver between A little and Zero.

Anyway our Honorable Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has made news today. With Democrats slowly beginning to switch sides as the poll numbers mount against her. The only two that will eventually be left is Obama and Pelosi. One of which, is starting to sound like a raving lunatic.

    http://thehill.com/leading-the-news/...008-07-10.html

"This call for drilling in areas that are protected is a hoax, it’s an absolute hoax on the part of the Republicans and this administration" Nancy Pelosi on July 10th 2008. When Gas Prices are at $4.10

Now what did this nut job say just a few years back? ( Mind you I withheld the rest of the quote becuase in it's full entirity it is almost sad to see a woman who was swoon over for breaking the cealing and what not in being the first woman speaker. Reduced to just... a lunatic that has lost all grip on reality. )

"Democrats have a commonsense plan to help bring down skyrocketing gas prices" Nancy Pelosi in 2006, back when Gas Prices were at $2.50

Also on a lighter and less political note

    http://blogs.chron.com/sciguy/archiv...ck_hole_a.html

Apparently "Black Hole" Is a racially insensative term.

Hmm I really don't think either party has a real plan. The fact is oil is going up because speculators play the market and also the increasing fears between Israel and Iran are not going to help anyone. And as the year goes on the United States will enter another winter and prices will go up and up and up. Anything the government in the US could do is what 1 year maybe two or more years away anyway? Sad to say but oil prices are going up. And you know I'm starting to feel it even in my wee car. So if the US can do something, great. I just don't see it happening.

Well firePokemon you do realize in a situation like this, the Speculators would actually help us. Becuase the moment that we start to make movements toward drilling, such as giving out contracts. The Speculators will drive the price down, becuase eventually more oil will be on the market, and the US ( one of the largest oil consumers ) will be off the Mid East Oil that drives the market.

The funny thing is that I support CAFC, so what the hell lol.

Iran are complaining to FIFA, so CAFC will probably be given a huge fine, mainly because FIFA is run by a bunch of anti-English Frogs and Krauts who want to ruin what was once a beautiful English game as quickly and expensively as possible.

The situation in Zimbabwe is shocking. I remember my Grandad a few years ago now visiting it back before all this stuff that is happening now. Anyway, he said what a lovely place it was and how South Africa looked at Zimbabwe as an example of hope. That's not the case anymore. One of the richer African countries are now in serious trouble. And all this starting because Mugabe wanted more blacks to own farm land. The problem, was the way they went about it. New Zealand has had a number of white farmers formerly from Zimbabwe moving here.

Things could have been sorted out in allowing blacks to get some land back, but the way they went about it kicking whites off their land was wrong. It allowed violence and unrest to come and ultimately in doing so they haven't improved the lives of most blacks. Things are certainly worse now.

President Bush explains the global economic crisis: Wall Street Got Drunk

Ladies and gentleman, I present the man that 50 million idiots in 2000 and 60 million tools in 2004 decided should run the economy of an economic superpower, which in turn has vast repercussions on economies worldwide.

I'd recommend watching the video; the funniest part is that everyone is trying to hold in their laughter over his ridiculous explanation, and then bursts out laughing over his stupid joke about Laura trying to buy a house, not because the joke was funny, but because this complete tool is completely sincere about Wall Street got drunk bullshit.

That guy seriously needs his own sitcom. Like, SO fucking badly. It could be called That's Our Dubya!, and it'd follow the bumbling misadventures of our President via a hilarious portrayal of his everyday life.

    You ever see 2DTV?

That show pretty much says it all.

That's My Bush was cancelled after several lawsuits complaining about the show's sexual connotations forced the production studio into bankrupcy.

Here's a news item for all the Facebook fanatics out there....

Creators of Scrabble knockoff on Facebook sued

I doubt any monetary damages will result, particularly since I haven't seen any halfway-decent official Scrabble programs online for as long as Scrabulous has been in existence. The creators (or Facebook), however, may very well face a cease and desist order now that Hasbro has entered the internet market.

We have a fucking hacker in Congress!

Apparently Nancy Pelosi, in her dumbass wisdom decided to ajorn with out a vote on energy drilling. So about 6 Republicans decided to stay there to debate it. That number slowly grew to about 20, which got Pelosi pissed so she had the lights dimmed and the microphones shut off, as well as kicking the media out with House Security

Problem is the idiot didn't realize the House has amazing acoustics seeing how it was built BEFORE the invention of microphones. Anyway long story short, it is still going on, Republicans are encouraging more members to come back, but with out a Microphone, they are now looking for a bull horn.

That is when Arizona Congressman Shadegg decided to sneak into the Speaker's office, and Haxorz the House Microphone system, eventually getting the microphones turned back on briefly.

So yes... we have a true Hacker in Congress!

This whole event could go on all day, or even all weekend. Having free reign to tell their energy policy to the press on the House floor with out any opposing views.

Well it's still going on! Two twiterers in Congress are covering the speaches being made.

    https://twitter.com/petehoekstra
    https://twitter.com/johnculberson

"Mike Pence speaking. He's firing people up. His message. Hill isn't in revolt, this is democracy at work."

Even one Congressman came back in shortsleeves and shorts to join in the fray. It looks like this ( Hopefully ) wont end any time soon.

Edit: Nancy Pelosi has given stricked orders to Capitol Police to shut down the Capitol at 4:30, so about 41 minutes from now. It seems they couldn't shut down them in any other way, so they are going to have the Police throw them out. Free Speach at Work...

The press conference with ten central members of the meeting just ended. I think that's the first time I've ever watched C-SPAN.

I wish they would allow cameras in to cover it, from some of these twitter bits and pieces, there has been some amazing moments.

"Americans want to take back their country!" <- Manzullo

"I had gotten in my car to drive home and I realized I didn't have enough money to pay for the first tank of gas," said Rogers.

Rep. Kevin Brady returned to thunderous applause when it was announced he had gotten off of a plane right before takeoff in order to deliver a speech. He said the day had turned things completely upside down.

"Normally they clap when I am leaving here with my bags packed," he said with a laugh. "Not the other way around."

The last two are from Politico which is on it's THIRD page on the whole event. Apparently one guy showed up in sandals.

Edit: Closing Pressconference now, the House Security is kicking them out. Rumor has it now President Bush is going to order Congress back to vote on Oil Drilling.
