Ahh, it’s Gym battle time! Today, within the Temple of the Yoroi, one lone challenger appears and makes his approach as he prepares to take on the Gym Leader. That lone challenger is Papabopp, who’s going to be put to the test to see if he has enough mettle to warrant the Kikoutei Badge. The Gym Leader materializes as if out of the shadows themselves and steps into the light. He nods to indicate his acceptance.

It’s on!

The challenger calls a rotund pink egg-keeper into play while the Gym Leader, on the other hand, summons a mighty poisonous frog to do his bidding. Suddenly, Vega leaps into action and begins barking out some rather mean Taunts. He tells Foster that she looks like a decorative Easter egg made by a blind leper child who has only two and a half fingers and a stub for a thumb. That… was really more bizarre than mean, actually, but it does the trick. Foster, who, as a Chansey, is really not used to entering flights of rage, nonetheless finds a way to keep her anger down as she unleashes a powerful burst of Psychic energy. She hoists Vega up into the air and slams him into the black suit of armour. Given his typing, the attack, needless to say, hurts.

Vega closes his eyes and, anticipating an attack from his foe, generates a large black fist of Dark energy. The Sucker Punch zooms across the field and clobbers Foster, who gives her head a shake and growls. Yes, growls. This Chansey has gone feral. She commands another onslaught of Psychic energy to attack her opponent and lemme tell you… judging by the look on Vega’s face, it’s painfully effective. Suddenly, Serene Grace kicks in and Vega’s stats dip.

Vega: <-18 HP; -6 EP; -1 SpD>

Vega zips forward for another attack, but Foster does her best to keep the froggy at bay using another burst of Psychic strength. He does his best to muscle through the psionic waves, trudging forward as though resisting a powerful gale, and stretches out his arm to strike. Suddenly, he manages to just barely nick the Chansey before she sends him tumbling back with a upswell of effort. However, the wee little touch is sufficient: his Poison Touch ability kicks in and Foster finds herself feeling awfully ill.

The Poison snatches a little health from Foster <-3 HP>.

As the second round begins, Foster lashes out with even more Psychic goodness. At this point, so soon into the match, Vega truly seems to be on his last legs. However, he quickly pieces together a brilliant scheme to bring down his Chansey foe.

“Dorkfacesayswhat?” he blurts out.

“What?” Foster asks.

“Hah! Dorkface!”

Just like that, it’s done. Foster, aka. the Dorkface, finds herself growing slowly Tormented by this friggin’ stupid toad. Point, Vega.

Vega then closes his eyes and tries to hone his focus. Foster, meanwhile, tries to finish this guy off with another Psychic… but can’t. She simply can’t work past that little Dorkface joke. Instead, she crosses her wee little arms and stews with rage.

Suddenly, Vega springs to life and lashes out with one hell of a Focus Punch. The poor Chansey is, as expected, thrown back into a wall from the sheer force of the move. Yikes.

Once again, Vega goes for the whole Zen approach while Foster spews out a sudden burst of sweet-smelling fragrance. Suddenly, she feels the sickening Poison oozing through her veins trickle away to nothing. However, just when she’s feeling like she’s on top of the world, Vega is zipping toward her with a second massive punch. Er, medic?

Closing her eyes, Foster begins to sing the first notes of some soft lullaby. Uh-oh. With no interest in being sent off on the Sleepy Train, Vega zips toward foster and thrusts his open palm into her face. It does the trick: dazed, Foster can’t even remember how the song she was singing is supposed to go.

Racing forward for another physical assault, Vega swings his outstretched fist at Foster. However, just in the nick of time, the squat Chansey manages to perform a Double Team, thereby armouring herself with a number of happy clones. The fist swings through one at random, obliterating it.

With three Chanseys remaining, Vega decides to try his luck and goes all-out on the nearest with a Brick Break. Much like last time, however, his strike only eats clone. This leaves him vulnerable as Foster hoists Vega into the air and sends him slamming into the pagoda ceiling… and lets him fall to the ground below. Ouch.

Now, if I read that right...I should have one free move. Let's use that to find the fake one. Vacumn Wave. If you get the real one, kudos to you Vega.

Then, since he used a Combo protection, lets go for it. Walk right up and hit him with Feint+Focus Blast . That'll even this out.

Though Vega is clearing losing, the big blue toadie retains some peculiar sort of confidence. He strikes with a wave of pure negated power which barrels toward Foster and her smiling Chansey clone. Luck doesn’t seem to be on her side this time around: the Vacuum Wave hits her square in the gut, causing her to double over and lose her beloved clone. She tries to retaliate with a Psychic blast, but seems far too Tormented to manage such a tactic.

Then, in a bizarre series of movements, Vega begins charging up a powerful chi blast while zigzagging across the battlefield. Foster watches as these attacks get performed in tandem and throws up a white energy shield in front of her. Just as she begins trying to erect a second protective barrier, Vega deftly dekes around the Protect and connects with both a physical strike and that mighty Focus Blast he’s been charging.

Their combined effects are detrimental for Foster. The Chansey is launched into the arena wall and slides down slowly toward the ground. She doesn’t get back up.

Then you said if any combo move comes, use Protect+Reflect. Feint is Physical, yet, but Focus Blast is special (as was Vacumn Wave)-deterring Counter.. Now, please release your next Pokemon, so we can get this going.

Papabopp recalls his dear fallen Chansey and releases something with a little more edginess: a shrieking armoured bird who takes flight upon entering the match. Without missing a beat, both Pokemon target one another with super-speedy combo attacks. Ted combines an agile swoop with an aerial slash while Vega, on the other hand, propels himself forward using a wave of energy and swings her sparkling fist at the descending Skarmory.

The moves connect and, though Ted sustains a hit, he also successfully knocks DL’s Toxicroak out of the battle.

Now that DL’s hard-hitting Toxicroak has been taken out of the battle, we all look on in anticipation of the Gym Leader’s next selection. He calmly plucks another Pokeball from his belt and summons a prehistoric, sickle-wielding beast into the fray. The Kabutops hisses and clangs his blades together aggressively before finding a few rocks on the ground (pagoda janitor = fail) and flinging them at Ted. They strike the airborne Skarmory with excellent precision and leave several dents in his wings, bending his metal feathers into a state of disarray. Ted falls. The armoured bird goes for a weak little hop and tries to attain flight once more, but it’s in vain: he has been effectively Smacked Down.

Giving a predatory squawk, Ted vents his rage by lashing out at Fei Long with one of those damaged wings. As it turns out, damage or no, they still make effective bludgeons. Who knew?

Ted squawks, annoyed with how that last action went. To up his ability to handle hard hits, he closes his eyes and begins shining with a silvery aura as his defensive prowess takes a turn for the better. Fei Long follows suit, using Iron Defence to achieve the same end. Hooray for Defence!

Ted now attacks with a second Steel Wing, but thanks to Fei Long’s hard-as-iron exterior, the move doesn’t do quite as much as the birdie would have hoped. On the bright side, Ted’s Defence stat climbs even further. Rather than attacking directly, Fei Long instead lumbers to one of the suits of armour and its attendant orb. He struggles to pick it up with his awkward bladed appendages but nonetheless succeeds and reaps the rewards, spraying Ted with a crackling trail of flames. What is a poor Skarmory to do?

As the next round begins, Ted does his best to get airborne. He flaps those wings of his, but because his metal feathers have been badly bent by Fei Long’s Smack Down, the attempt fails. As such, he’s a sitting duck as Fei Long starts rubbing his twin sickles together. The action creates the most unpleasant screeching noise which bothers Ted greatly, lowering his Special Defence in the process.

Unable to fly, Ted now sprints like a Doduo toward the nearest suit of armour. He picks up the accompanying orb and, suddenly, the armour comes to life. Fei Long gulps. Suddenly, the Kabutops finds himself on the receiving end of a rather nasty Leaf Blade which slices him up brutally. Grimacing, Fei Long retaliates with a brutal beam of brown energy that launches Ted into the suit of armour that had helped him out mere moments prior.

Ted folds his cumbersome wings in and begins to regain health, temporarily transforming him into a pure Steel type. Fei Long continues his assault by throwing one of his sickles forward as though smashing bricks. Ted skids backward and lets out a predatory squawk. No interrupting rest time, jerkface!
