Hi, Wuster! Welcome to the forums!
I don't follow the Pokemon anime, but I like the way you use dialogues to show what's going on in the story.
Hello, I'm new here, and would like to share my FIRST FanFic. I know, there is probably a lack in description, don't worry, I've written up to chapter 5 and it is much better as it goes on. (I have posted this on Serebii)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CHAPTER 1
(2:30 PM) Twinleaf Town, Right Outside Dawn’s House
On a bright and sunny evening a young boy by the name of Ash Ketchum raced through Twinleaf Town, eager to see two of his best friends.
“Hurry up Pikachu, or else they’ll think I went to eat without them!” Ash said with a sly grin.
“Pi-Pika-Pi!!” shouted Pikachu, his yellow, lightning bolt shaped tail, bobbing as he ran
alongside his life-long friend.
As Ash and Pikachu blurred by the lab, they came across the familiar place the trio had been calling home for the past week. He busted through the front door, as two familiar faces turned around.
“Dawn, Brock, has May arrived yet?” Ash had a look on his face that best resembled a Purugly that ran into a pole.
“Relax Ash, her boat isn’t due for another hour and a half” Brock said with a smile, laughing silently at the young trainer from Pallet’s anxiety.
“Yeah Ash, relax. Brock made some soup” Dawn winked, placing a large bowl of soup on the table.
Ash grudgingly nodded OK and sat down to eat some of the delicious chicken soup Brock made. By the time he was done a pile of plates sat on the table.
“Why don’t you three hurry up now, I’ll take care of the dishes” Dawn’s mom said, beaming in awe at the appetite of the young boy.
In a Park near the Pier and Dawn’s House
Meanwhile another trainer, similar to Ash, though completely different in looks walked through the grass. He calmly sat down and pulled out 5 poke balls.
“Come on out everyone, enjoy the warm weather!” 5 poke balls got thrown in the air. Out came a Riolu, a Pichu, a Empoleon, a Flygon and a Eevee. Riolu and Empoleon relaxed in the warm breeze, while Flygon found a nice tree to take a nap in. Eevee and Pichu however stayed in close proximity to their trainer.
(3:00) On the way to the Pier
“Guys lets go, or we’ll miss the boat!”
“Will you relax Ash, we still have thirty minutes!” Dawn huffed as she tried to keep up with Brock and Ash.
Riolu sensing people nearby, sent an Aura Sphere attack into the sky.
“Nice one Riolu, but what was that for?” the Trainer questioned as he slowly got to his feet.
“Pikaaa-Pi!” Pikachu exclaimed excitedly as he pointed at the mystical Aura Sphere.
“Let’s go check it out guys?”
“Oh my gosh...you just made us run halfway to the ferry, only to be distracted?” Dawn mumbled under her breath.
The three followed the Aura Sphere, and ran into the Trainer.
“Well hello! My name is Brandon, I’m a trainer from Celadon City!” the trainer said excitedly, while Riolu and Pichu hopped down from his shoulder.
“Hey! I’m Ash Ketchum from Pallet Town! This is Brock from Pewter City, and Dawn who’s also from Twinleaf!” Ash said in a friendly voice, as Pikachu jumped down and greeted Riolu and Pichu
“Nice to meet you guys! Ash, I think I’ve seen you battle somewhere..was it the Kanto League?” Brandon said while thinking back.
“You bet! Hey want to-“ Ash was cut short by the blare of a ship horn!
“Oh no! We’re LATE. Umm-!”
“Brandon sorry to leave so quick, but if you want come with us!” Dawn said quickly.
“Sure?”
I just met this guy, but he gives off the same aura as Brandon..I’ve never told him this..It’s for his own good.. Riolu thought.
Ash sprinted towards the pier, harder than he had ever run in his life. Pikachu was hanging onto his shoulder for his life.
Oh man, I’ve never seen Ash so pumped to see a friend... Pikachu thought to himself.
Ash noticed Pikachu hanging on by a thread and slowed down “Whoops, sorry Pikachu I didn’t mean to make you hang on like that”
Pikachu responded enthusiastically “Pi-Pika-Pi!”
Brandon threw a Poke Ball into the air. “Flygon, make sure Ash, Dawn and Brock get to the Pier as fast as possible OK?”
The three hopped on Flygon’s back and said “Thanks Brandon! See you there!” in unison.
“Glad to help!”
You know, saving those Pokémon really made me think about what Nurse Joy said. I’d hate to leave Ash after all these years though..If only there was some way I could become a Pokémon Doctor while travelling with Ash.. Brock thought to himself.
(4:45) In the Sky
“ASH I HATE HEIGHTS!!”
“Don’t worry Dawn, this is gonna be about a 15 minute flight.”
“Ash, Dawn why don’t you let Staraptor and Togekiss out for a little air?”
“Good idea Brock!” the two said in unison. The three watched the brave bird Pokemon, Staraptor pop out of it’s poke ball, and fly alongside Flygon. Togekiss meanwhile, was content gliding along happily chatting with passing Staravia and Starly.
(5:00) Twinleaf Pier
“Thanks Flygon! You were great!” Ash told the majestic Pokémon. He gazed admiringly at the sheer size of the green, dragon type. Flygon replied by nodding his head.
Ash could see the ship unboarding. Many passengers flooded out, and all of a sudden a hint of a red bandana, with a white Poke Ball on top of it.
“MAY OVER HERE!!” Ash yelled while jumping up and down.
“Ash! Brock! Dawn! How nice to see all of you again!” May replied enthusiastically.
Ash and May met glances. Ash looked into May’s stunning, sapphire eyes while she connected with his soft, brown eyes.
There was an awkward silence between the two, which was quickly broken by Brock “So May, lets head to Dawn’s house and you can fill us in on your Johto adventures!”
All of a sudden Pikachu noticed a figure in the distance with a Riolu on its head. “Piiiiiiika”
Ash exclaimed “Hey look it’s Brandon!”
After all the introductions, Brandon spoke with Ash “Hey Ash what were you going to ask before you had to go?”
Ash replied “I was going to ask to battle you, so do you accept?”
“Sure.”

Thanks! Haha you really should, I mean it is good! My favorite seasons are AG, Battle Frontier, D/P.. So basically the one in Hoenn (May&Max), and one in Sinnoh (Dawn)
On another note, it seems kinda dead in the fanfic section! Hopefully I can attract a lot of readers![]()
I agree, I think the conversation is a really strong part of this story.
All of the characters just seem so hyper and ready to go in the story which brings a certain speed to it. I must also admit that I didn’t remember all of the characters from the anime, but you seem to have them working well together and have references to past events, which can be a good thing.
OK, I enjoyed this, it was easy to read and follow the story which is a lot, since my original mother tongue isn't English. I'm excited how deep you're going to get with the relationships between Ash and May and even more Ash and Dawn. For Dawn is my current favourite Pokemon anime character. It may change, I did prefer Misty in the beginning. Also, I'm not disappointed if Ash will pair with May rather than Dawn, Dawn may have something even better waiting for her, then.
Again, the best chapters in my opinion are 4 and 5, simply because the first 3 were a learning curve for me.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CHAPTER 2
“Sure!” Brandon replied, pumping his fist in the air.
Riolu seemed to be almost as pumped as his trainer and responded with an enthusiastic “Ri-rio!”
Brock coolly said “As a former Gym Leader, I will act as Referee.” With a smile on his face.
“Let’s get this show on!” exclaimed Ash, emanating Brandon’s excitement.
(6:30) Dawn’s Backyard
“Ash, I’ll give you the first move.” Brandon said with a sly grin on his face.
“Alright” Ash replied, determined to beat his new friend.
The air had an electric atmosphere to it, as if it were a Pokemon League match. The Budew, sensing the impending danger, scattered. A few Bidoof's were watching through the fence, eagerly waiting for the battle to ensue. Mothim and Staravia flew above.
“This will be a 2 on 2 Double Battle” Brock stated, looking on at the two trainers.
“Go, Infernape, Pikachu!” Ash yelled, as he released his Fire-Monkey Pokemon in a bright, white flash of light, and Pikachu came running onto the field.
“Hm. Well, battle on, Flygon and Pichu!” Brandon said as he threw Flygons poke ball into the air, and Pichu hopped off his perch on Brandon’s head, determined to beat his evolution.
“Pi-Pichu!” He stated while sizing up his foes.
“BEGIN!” Brock yelled, smiling at how serious it suddenly became.
“Pikachu use Quick Attack to get close to Flygon, and then use Iron Tail! Infernape use Dig on Pichu!”
The electric mouse disappeared in a quick burst of speed, and the fire powerhouse burrowed underneath the field.
“Oh yeah? Pichu use Volt Tackle to intercept Pikachu, Flygon use Hyper Beam in that hole!”
“A Pichu with Volt Tackle?!” Dawn screamed in surprise as she saw Pichu engulf itself in electricity, and take down Pikachu. Infernape meanwhile, was stuck underground.
“Infer..” Infernape, awaiting the command from Ash to dodge the attack, was getting nervous.
“INFERNAPE GET OUTTA THERE!” Ash yelled, just as Flygon fired the high-damage beam of energy into the hole. Infernape got out, but unfortunately got caught by the orangey-white beam just as he surfaced.
“I-I-Infernape is unable to battle.” Brock stated, in shock at the sheer power of Flygon’s Hyper Beam.
Ash called Infernape into it’s poke ball. “Great job buddy, you deserve a nice rest.”
“Hey Ash, it’s getting extremely close to suppertime, how about we get Infernape some help, and we can finish this off sometime else?” Brandon asked.
“Uhh, sure?” Ash replied with a questioning look on his face.
(7:00) Dawn’s House
The aroma of freshly cooked noodles and beef filled the dining room. There was a table set for six: Ash, Brock, May, Dawn, Brandon, and Dawn’s mother. Ash and Brandon were drooling over the smell.
“Thanks for this awesome dinner!” Brandon said, while staring at the food like he hadn’t eaten for days.
“Hey Brandon, you have some pretty good battling techniques, where have you competed?” Ash questioned, with a grin on his face.
“Well I’ve done the Johto League, Kanto League, and Hoenn League. I placed top 8, followed by two top 4’s.”
“That’s amazing! I have to train with you!” Ash said with an ecstatic look on his face.
“Sure, hey Dawn, May, Brock, how about you fill me in on what you guys do?” Brandon said as he ate some of the delicious noodles Dawn’s Mother cooked.
“Well I aspire to be the world’s best Pokemon Breeder.” Brock said, whilst stroking Chansey’s head.
“Me and Dawn want to be Top Coordinator!” May blurted out.
Riolu, sensing Ash's Aura thought Ash seems to have feelings for this May girl. He must be too dense to figure it out though.
“Hey Riolu, what’s on your mind?” Brandon asked, while smiling with his new friends.
I have never seen Brandon so happy..
“Nothing Brandon, don’t worry about me.”
“Did Riolu just use telepathy to communicate with us?!” May said in awe, with a shocked look on her face.
“You bet!” Ash and Brandon replied in unison.
“Ash you’ve seen a Riolu before?” Brandon asked, awestuck.
“Yea-“ Ash started, before May interrupted him.
“Ash saved a Riolu before, and even a Lucario!” May blurted out. After she realized what she did, her face turned almost as red as her old bandana.
“Umm, that pretty much sums it up..” Ash said quietly.
Oh no what have I done?! May thought, while quietly in a panic attack.
“So Ash, how’s it going?” May asked, trying to change the subject.
“Well for starters, I finished Top Four in the Sinnoh League.”
“Really?! I lost to some dude with a Darkrai and Latios..I came Top Eight..Sorry to interrupt though, please continue.”
“Really Brandon?! I don’t remember seeing you..” Dawn exclaimed.
“Actually now that I think back, I vaguely remember seeing someone who resembles you...” Brock said, while stroking his chin.
“Haha yeah, I was wearing different things, and a hat my friend bought me for good luck.”
Brandon replied while scratching his head, with a goofy grin on his face.
“Oh that explains it, don’t worry it looked good!” Dawn said with a smile. She began to realize what she said, and immediately turned as red as a Groudon. She said “Umm, well I guess I’ll be heading to bed, good night!”
“Haha thanks Dawn, and goodnight!” Brandon said while slightly blushing.
“Goodnight!” Everyone said.
Hm looks like Dawn has a little crush..
Haha, another fun chapter. Again I really like the quick-paced action, and how the plot is able to rely so much on conversation. It’s pretty funny that Riolu can see what the others can’t, but I’m going to wait and see how it all turns out.
I guess I’ll wait to give more in depth until you get past chapter 3 I guess.
CHAPTER 3
As Dawn rushed up the wooden stairs, Brandon asked Ash ,with a smile in a teasing tone, “Hey Ash, it looked like you couldn’t focus in that battle, something the matter? You kept looking to the sidelines.”
“Huh? I was?” Ash said with a questioning look on his face, taking off his red and white Pokémon hat, and smoothing out his jet black hair.
“Yeah I noticed that too. You know I think that is how Brandon’s Flygon beat you. You weren’t focused, and neither were your Pokémon.” Brock stated, while crossing his muscular, tanned arms.
Ash pondered on it, while staring at Pikachu. The little, yellow electric mouse felt concerned for Ash and asked “Pi?”
“You know, I think your right Brock, I just don’t know how I could’ve been distracted like that...”
I knew it. Ash is too dense to realize his feelings for May. He will come to his senses eventually. His time will come. Riolu thought, sitting cross-legged on the floor in meditation.
While Brandon, Brock and May helped Dawn’s mother clean up all the plates, Ash sat on the couch with Pikachu on his lap. “You know buddy, I really think Brock was right...I can’t put my finger on what it could be though.” He said, stroking Pikachu’s soft, yellow fur.
(9:00 PM) Dawn’s Room, Twinleaf Town
“Hey Dawn, your Mom said I could sleep here!” May said while dragging a blue sleeping bag into Dawn’s room.
“Here let me help you with that.” The blunette said, flashing a smile at May.
After the two girls set the sleeping bag up, they hopped into bed.
“Goodnight May”, Dawn said drearily
“Nigh-YAAWN...Night Dawn”, May said cracking a smile.
The three boys set up in the spare room. Ash asked “Brandon we need to have a rematch. Please?”
“Sure first thing tomorrow Ash, also thanks for being ref Brock, you were great!” Brandon said, yawning loudly and stretching his toned, somewhat muscular arms.
“Not a problem. Let’s get some sleep now OK?” Brock said, beaming that the group had a new addition.
(8:00 AM) Spare Room, Dawn’s House, Twinleaf Town
“Ash...Ash....AAAAAAAAAASHHHH WAKE UP BREAKFAST TIME!” Brock yelled, looking
frustrated at the result.
“Five..more....minutes..mommy”, Ash said dreamily, while turning over in the sea-blue comforter.
“Brandon c’mon, get up”, Brock had a shocked look on his face- Brandon got up, but dragged himself out of bed to the washroom to freshen up.
Well at least he got up... Brock thought, quietly smiling to himself as he made his way downstairs to the welcoming aroma of bacon and eggs. The bacon and eggs sizzled on the frying pan, almost like skates on fresh ice.
“Mmm that smells good” Brock said, smiling at Dawn’s mom.
“Why thank you Brock!” The former Coordinator said, beaming at Brock, while pushing her blue hair out of her face.
“Ashhh waaaaake up!” Brandon lazily said, tugging at Ash’s shoulder.
“W-what?! What time is it?!” Ash stuttered, looking around scarily.
“Relaaaax it’s only eight-thirty.” Brandon said, winking at Ash.
Ash just sunk back into the bed.
“Alright then suit yourself, Dawn’s mom cooked bacon and eggs!” Brandon said, sticking his tongue out at the young Pokémon trainer.
Ash bolted out of bed faster than you could say “Weavile.”
After everyone had finished freshening up, and was seated at the table, breakfast was served. “Turagnk Ypou!” Ash said, with a mouthful of eggs. Everyone burst into laughter, Dawn’s mother fell off her chair! “Haha Ash, your exactly like I remember you.” May said, with a beaming smile.
Brock, being the eldest member of the group, knew what love was. He thought, Hmm looks like May has a crush!
Riolu, sensing what Brock was thinking quickly sent him a telepathic message, Brock, looks like you see it too. Relax it’s Riolu.
R-R-Riolu? H-How? W-what? Brock said, looking around crazily.
“Brock, something the matter?” May asked, interrupting her conversation with Ash.
“N-nothing...” Brock stammered, obviously not expecting that.
May has a crush on Ash. I can sense it. The little Aura Pokemon said, giving no clue about this conversation happening in their heads, and smiling on with Pikachu.
Well, I’m hoping Ash realizes it, but he’s probably to dense to figure it out. Brock thought, hoping Riolu could hear him.
Yep.
Meanwhile, Ash and May were happily conversing.
“So May, how is Johto?” Ash asked, fixing his jet black hair.
“I see why you hyped it up so much Ash! It’s beautiful! Sadly, I only made Top 4 in the Grand Festival there.” May replied, fidgeting with her blue bandana Ash got her at the Wallace Cup.
“I see your still wearing that bandana I got ya! And don’t worry May, that’s amazing!” Ash exclaimed, pointing at the Bandana, almost as blue as a Manaphy.
“You bet! It’s my absolute favourite! And thanks Ash!” May said, twirling her brunette hair.
“Awesome!” Ash shouted, pumping his fist in the air, ecstatic that the brunette coordinator liked his gift.
“So Ash, I heard you placed Top 4 in the Sinnoh League! That’s amazing!” May said, happy for the aspiring Trainer.
“Haha you bet! At first, I was kind of sad, but then I realized I lost to a great Trainer-he went on and won the whole thing! He helped to better me as a Trainer in my opinion, and is a great person!” Ash said, sitting back on the chair.
He’s so...deep..Who knew Ash was like that? He’s so c- May thought before she was abruptly snapped out of her daydream
“ASH WATCH OUT” Dawn cried, as Ash’s chair fell backwards.
“Oww..I’m..alright.” Ash said woozily, while shaking his head.
“Oh my gosh, Ash are you OK?” May exclaimed, while rushing over to help the fallen Trainer.
“Yeah May I’m fine!” Ash said, brushing himself off.
“You scared me there..” May said, sighing in relief.
“May, I only fell out of a chair, I’ve been hit by my Charizard’s Flamethrower attacks before!” Ash exclaimed, sticking his tongue out at the shaken up Coordinator.
I know how to show her I’m fine! Ash confidently thought, while growing a big smile on his face.
“Haha May! How about we have a Double Battle?” Ash implied, while winking at Pikachu.
“Um sure Ash, what are the teams?” May said, with a questioning look on her face.
“How about you and me May, against Brandon and Ash?” Dawn asked with a hopeful look on her face.
“OK let’s do this Dawn!” She said, giving her a high-five.
As Brock, Ash, Dawn, May and Dawn’s mom made their way to the backyard a few wild Budew ran away. The sun shone brightly, beating down on them. A flock of Starly flew overhead, cooing as they passed by. The morning dew was still fresh on the grass, falling off as they walked on the freshly mowed lawn. The Trainers had a determined look in their eyes, while the Coordinators looked confident, almost full of themselves.
“As former Gym Leader, I will act as referee.” Brock stated, looking on at the scene
unfolding before him.
“Send out your Pokémon, and begin!”
“Go Infernape!” Ash yelled, throwing a Poke Ball into the air. As it opened, there was a flash of light, and his loyal fire-monkey Pokémon looked at the opposing team, smirking at them.
“This would be a good time to practice. Eevee, battle on!” Brandon exclaimed, throwing a black looking Poke Ball with red and gold markings on into the air. As the bright light subsided, the cute, yet fierce battler popped out.
“Ee-Vee!” Eevee yelled out, her eyes glistening at a chance to battle.
“Looks like your up Blaziken!” May said, looking very confident, almost as if she was sure she’d beat Ash.
“Blaaaaaaze!” screamed Blaziken as he let out his battle cry.
“My turn! Let’s do this Piplup!” Dawn said in a confident tone, letting Piplup down from her head.
“Piiiip-LUUUP!” Piplup chirped, staring Eevee down, trying to intimidate her.
“Ladies first” Brandon calmly said.
“Blaziken, use Flamethrower on Eevee!” May yelled, pointing at Eevee.
“Piplup use Whirlpool on Infernape!” Dawn said.
“Hm. Eevee use Shadow Ball on the Whirlpool, and dodge the Flamethrower!” Brandon said, analyzing the battle.
“Infernape, use Dig!” Ash confidently shouted out.
The large fire type Pokemon took a deep breath, and let loose a massive Flamethrower, headed straight for Eevee! The small Pokemon however dodged the attack, and shot a Shadow Ball that cut through the massive Whirlpool. Infernape, dug down into the earth and was nowhere to be seen.
The concentrated, dark, shadowy ball of energy hurtled toward Piplup at an immense speed. “Piip...” Piplup took the attack directly, and fell to the ground.
“Come on Piplup, I know you can do it!” Dawn yelled over the heat of battle.
Piplup, hearing these words of encouragement, shook himself off and was raring to go.
“Infernape come up now!” Ash yelled, knowing exactly where the tank fire Pokémon was going to go up.
Infernape jumped out of the ground right under Blaziken, and scored a direct hit. The large fire-type Pokemon fell to the ground, clearly impacted by the super-effective attack.
“Oh yeah? Blaziken use Fire Spin!”
“Eevee intercept with Sand-Attack!” Brandon said, gritting his teeth , hoping the dirt could douse the flames.
Eevee threw dirt up with her paws, just as a swirling, fiery mass was headed towards Infernape. The Fire Spin was negated, just as Ash yelled out to Infernape “Infernape, Flare Blitz on Piplup!”
“Wha-!” May said, her eyes wide open in shock at the sheer power of the new attack.
“Piiiip..” Piplup stuggled to get up, but the small, blue penguin Pokémon managed to stay in it.
“Nice job Ash, tell Infernape to use Flamethrower .” Brandon said, wanting to try something.
“Infernape Flamethrower!”
“Eevee use Shadow Ball!”
The relatively young Pokemon fired off the shadowy ball of darkness, and Infernape unleashed a devastating Flamethrower. The two attacks somehow mixed together, with the Shadow Ball circling around the Flamethrower. The attacks scored a direct hit.
“It looks like Piplup and Blaziken are unable to battle. Victory goes to Ash, and Brandon!” Brock yelled, his arm pointing in the two young trainers direction.
May and Dawn recalled their Pokemon, each disappearing in a ray of red light.
“Oh man, I thought we woulda had that” May said looking down and kicking the dirt.
“Hey May, you got so much better!” Ash exclaimed.
“Haha you too! By the way Ash, that was an awesome combination at the end there!”
“Don’t say that to me- that was all Brandon!” Ash said, smiling and pointing in the direction of the teen in the blue shirt and black shorts.
“Brandon that was an amazing combo!” May and Dawn both exclaimed, causing everyone to break into laughter.
“Haha thanks May, Dawn.” Brandon coolly said, pushing his glasses up.
That seemed like a move only a coordinator could have pulled off.. Brock thought to himself, scratching his head, as to where that combination could have came from.
As everyone filed into the house slowly, they were greeted by the familiar “ding” of the doorbell. Dawn said “Oh I got it!” as she ran to go get the door.
She gasped as she saw the familiar faces, "H-hey guys!"
Grr, sorry for the wait! Been so busy lately..
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CHAPTER 4
Dawn just stood in front of door, mouth agape.
“Hey Dawny!” The orange-haired girl said with a wide smile on her face, beaming at the blunette.
“Yo Dee-Dee, sup?” The dark skinned male said, fiddling with his belt.
“Oh my gosh! Zoey, Torez! What a nice suprise!” Dawn said, slowly grinning, overjoyed her two old friends were here.
“Wait a sec, Barry was also here...where did that guy run off to now?” Zoey said, with a questioning look on her face.
“I’ll go check iight?” Torez said, looking around feverishly for the blonde Pokémon Trainer.
“Alright, I’ll catch up with Dawn!” The orange-haired coordinator said, giving Dawn a thumbs up while putting her dark, circular sunglasses into her fiery hair.
The young blunette led Zoey into the kitchen, where Brock and Brandon were doing the dishes. The sound of running water filled the room, as Dawn introduced Zoey to Brandon.
After all the introductions were made, Dawn led Zoey up into her room. Piplup was sleeping, obviously tired out from the battle in the morning. Dawn, careful not to wake the small, blue penguin Pokémon motioned for Zoey to take a seat on a chair next to Dawn’s desk. Zoey looked around, and eventually caught sight of Dawn’s five ribbons from the Sinnoh Contests in a glass case, staring at them. A smile slowly crept up on her face.
“You know, I never realized how beautiful these ribbons actually are.” Zoey said, closing her eyes and letting out a sigh.
“It’s just, I never took the time to really look at them. To be honest the only thing I really looked at was pictures of the Grand Festival Cup.” Zoey added, brushing orange hair out of her face, while awaiting a response from Dawn.
“I hear you. But one thing I’ve learned, travelling with Ash is that it isn’t about winning- it’s about you and your Pokémon having a good time together.” Dawn said slouching on her bed, slowly stroking Piplup’s head.
As Dawn walked over to her window, she thought clutching her heart I really don’t want to have to split up with Ash, Brock, May and Brandon..But I also want to do contests in Hoenn..
“Hey Dawny, why so down?” Zoey said, walking over to Dawn, with a large hint of concern in her voice.
It was too much for Dawn. As tears started to roll down her cheeks, the small blue Pokémon on her bed awoke.
“Piiiiiiiiiiiiiip..” Piplup said, stretching his back out.
Zoey took Dawn in her arms. “It’s okay Dawn, let it out..”
“I-it’s just..I don’t want to leave them..” the young blunette said, taking off her white Pokémon beanie hat, and wiping tears from her cheek.
“I know Dawn, you know what though? Me and Torez just came back from a vacation. It was in the beautiful, faraway region called Unova. There are contests and a Pokémon League there! You can all go, together!” Zoey exclaimed, trying to cheer Dawn up.
“R-really? Well I guess we better tell all of them about it!” The blunette said, looking extremely happy.
Dawn’s Kitchen
“Brandon come back!” Brock said, raising an eyebrow while looking out the door.
“But Ash isn’t back yet! I’ll be really quick, I promise!” Brandon replied, taking a Poke Ball out from his belt.
“Okay, be careful!” Brock said, sighing in defeat, as he headed back towards the kitchen.
A young girl with red clothing, short, black shorts and a blue bandana was sleeping on the couch, with a Glaceon on top of her. As she slowly stirred, she looked around, wide awake now that a certain young man was missing.
“Brock, where’s Ash?!” She exclaimed, slowly getting up and causing the deep blue ice Pokémon to awake.
Brock, being the unofficial big brother to everyone said, “Don’t worry, Brandon went to go look for him. He’s probably training or something. Want some ramen?”
At the sound of her favourite dish of noodles, May calmed down, and allowed Brock to take her into the kitchen.
“Flygon, keep your eyes open for Ash okay?”
“Fly!” The majestic dragon-ground type responded, scanning the ground with his eyes, that were covered in a protective red film.
Eventually they found him, walking towards the local mall. It was Twinleaf’s only mall, but was elegant. It was completely surrounded by glass, and had eerily life-like statues of Charizard’s at the entrance.
Flygon landed and Brandon gave the dragon-type high praise, “Great job buddy, take a nice long rest.” He said, holding the red and white Poke Ball in his hand. As Flygon disappeared in the red ray of light, Brandon said, “Riolu, you hate flying don’t you?”
Yes Brandon, I do. No matter now though, we should go see what Ash is up to. The Aura Pokémon said, while pointing ahead.
“I guess your right, keep an eye on him Riolu.” Brandon said, running into the crowd.
The two eventually caught up to Ash and he said with a surprised look on his face
“Hey guys, what are you doing here?”
“Looking for YOU! It’s almost lu-“ Brandon started, as he was interrupted by Riolu.
Relax, he’s here for something special.
“Actually I need your help to find May a present..She seemed really down that she didn’t win the Grand Festival.” Ash said, with a soft look in his eye.
“Uhh..sorry Ash..I didn’t mean to blow up at you..let’s go get May something then.” Brandon said, still in shock at Riolu’s prediction.
That was a cov- Riolu started, but was cut off by a thought from Brandon.
Yes, Riolu I KNOW! I’m not that dense bud! Brandon thought, winking at Riolu.
The two trainers, Pikachu and Riolu went around the entire mall, not seeing anything that caught Ash’s eye. Brandon meanwhile, took the opportunity to stock up for the impending journey ahead.
“Hey Ash, look what I got us! I managed to get five, but that’s all he had left..” Brandon said, handing Ash a Poke Ball with a black top and a yellow semicircle in the top part.
Ash’s eyes widened as he took the mystery ball from the trainer. “I-isn’t this an Ultra Ball?!” He said, turning to Brandon.
“Mhm! They were on sale! I figured I’d get one for you, me, Brock, Dawn and May.” Brandon said, pushing his glasses up.
“Thanks Brandon!” Ash said, high-fiving the trainer.
The two continued their search for something for May, when all of a sudden Pikachu and Riolu jumped off their trainer’s shoulders and ran towards a new clothing store.
“I guess we should follow ‘em huh?” Brandon said to Ash, nodding his head towards the Pokémon.
“Yep, who knows, it must be something good to make them run away!” Ash exclaimed, his eyes brightening in anticipation as to what the Pokémon were trying to show him.
As the two young Pokemon Trainers started to run towards the electric-mouse and the small Aura Pokemon, they stopped, and stared with their mouths open at the sight before them.
On a manikin in a elegant glass case, was the supposed “latest fashion design”. A red, sleevless top, with a bag similar to May’s, but green around the waist, May’s same tight, black shorts, a green bandana with a white Poke ball design on the top of it adorned the head of the manikin. Red and black shoes, with white soles topped it off.
“A-Ash..Look at the price...” Brandon said, pointing a shaky hand at a orange price tag hanging from the bag.
Ash,still awestruck by the outfit, slowly scooted over to where Brandon was pointing.
“WOAH 128 Poke Dollars?! Uhh, I only have 56..” Ash said, looking crushed.
“Don’t worry Ash, I have 500 poke dollars right here. We can get the outfit, and still have enough for some Potions, Poke Balls, food, and a little something extra I have planned.”
Brandon said, grinning mischievously at the young trainer, wearing a blue shirt, jeans and glasses handed over enough of his money to Ash, as Riolu hopped on to Brandon’s shoulder.
Pikachu looked longingly at the currently vacant spot on Brandon’s shoulder.
“Want to go with Brandon, and buy supplies Pikachu?” Ash asked, grinning at his best friend.
“Pi-pika-pi!” Exclaimed Pikachu, hopping excitedly on Brandon’s shoulder.
“Okay Ash, we’ll see you later! If you’re looking for us, we’ll be in the Poke Mart.” Brandon said, bending down to let Pikachu onto his other shoulder.
“Awesome!” Ash said excitedly, pumping his fingerless gloved fist into the air.
Brandon headed into the nearby Poke Mart, while Ash headed into the clothing store.
“Excuse me sir, I would like to purchase the clothing combination in the display case.” Ash told the clerk, politely.
The young man, dressed handsomely in a black tuxedo, with a white handkerchief tucked neatly into the breast-pocket replied “Right away, excuse me for a second while I remove it.”
The clerk went to work, expertly detaching the different parts of the outfit. As soon as he was done, he said to Ash “That will be 128 Poke Dollars. Would you like it bagged, or boxed?”
“Boxed please, and here.” Ash said, handing over the gold-coated, oval shaped coins.
“Thank you, and have a great day!” The clerk said brightly.
“Thanks, you too!” Ash said, smiling at the young man.
Meanwhile, Brandon was done buying Potions, Poke Balls, Antidotes, Paralyz Heals, and Full Restores, something caught his eye. It was on sale, and the title read “Brand New Poke Seals, On Sale! 2 Poke Dollars EA.”
“Poke Ball seals? Hmm... Hey look, Pikachu you think these are what Dawn uses in her contests?” Brandon said, curious as to what the foreign object were.
“Pi-Pika-Pi” Pikachu said, nodding his head.
“Okay thanks Pikachu.” Brandon said, rubbing behind the electric mouse’s ears.
“Chuuuu!” Pikachu cooed, enjoying Brandon’s soft touch.
Brandon, with the help of Pikachu, and Riolu, picked out 5 seals- one each for him, Brock, Ash, May and Dawn.
“Okay guys, good job. Now let’s go find Ash!” Brandon said, smiling at the two Pokemon, who smiled back in return.
Ash and Brandon eventually ran into each other, and Brandon said “Hey Ash, we’re all stocked up now. How’d the outfit thing go?”
“I got him to box the whole thing, now I need to wrap it.” Ash said, as he looked around for a wrapping booth.
“Haha Ash, no need to wrap it- look there isn’t any hint of it even being an outfit!” Brandon said, laughing at Ash’s lack of common sense, and pointing at the plain, white box.
“Oh..right. Well let’s head back!” Ash said, smiling at Brandon.
Pikachu jumped off Brandon’s shoulder to Ash’s and as the two trainers stepped outside, Brandon said, “Flygon, let’s head back to Dawn’s house!” as he threw a Poke Ball into the air, and in a bright white flash of light, the large, light green, insect-like dragon Pokémon popped out.
“Fly-Fly-GON!” The dual Ground-Dragon type Pokemon said, allowing the trainers to mount his back.
As they flew into the sky, they were joined by flocks of Starly and Staravia. The glare of the sun was immense, as it was mid-day. After about 15 minutes of flying, They landed, right in front of Dawn’s humble home.
Ash and Brandon’s stomachs let out a growl, louder than an Exploud.
“Haha I guess we’re both starving, eh Ash?” Brandon said, smiling and letting out a little groan.
“You bet! I hope Brock finished lunch.” Ash said, rubbing his stomach.
As the two opened the white, oak doors, they were greeted by the heavenly aroma of ramen, basil rice, deep fried pork chops and Brock’s famous beef stew.
“Mmm, hey everyone!” Brandon said enthusiastically, waving to everyone.
Brandon and Ash were greeted by Brock, “Hey guys, just in time! EVERYONE LUNCH IS READY!” he yelled.
Dawn and Zoey came running downstairs at the mention of food.
“Mmm smells good Brock!” Dawn said, her head held high, sniffing the delightful smell.
As the 4 sat down, the door burst open. A midsized, dark skinned male, with a buzz cut walked in, along with a blonde haired trainer, who was wearing a orange and white striped shirt.
“Barry! Dawn yelled as she rushed over to greet her long-time friend.
After everyone got caught up, they enjoyed a delicious meal consisting of the delectable noodles May absolutely loved, rice which had a nice hint of seasoning, golden brown hunks of pork chop which Torez gorged on, and the nice, thick, flavourful stew which Brandon and Ash downed bowl after bowl, all courtesy of the former Pewter gym leader.
“So Ash, you really worried me when you disappeared like that..” May said, slightly blushing.
Ash, seeing the concern on May’s face said, “I’m sorry May, I didn’t mean to worry you!” as he got up to get the box containing May’s surprise
“Brock, May, Dawn let’s head to your room Dawn, me and Ash bought some stuff we have to split.” Brandon said, rummaging through his over-stuffed, black backpack.
“Okay!” They all yelled, excited, thinking about what sort of things the two boys picked out.

CHAPTER 5
As the trainers headed up to Dawn’s room, the young man with glasses, dark-brown eyes, jet-black hair and a backwards cap was shocked at his surroundings. Picture frames plastered the walls, leaving only little cracks in which pink drywall was exposed. In the majority of the dark-brown frames, were younger versions of Dawn’s mother. She was a little shorter, had the same afro-like hairstyle, but also had a brightness in her eyes that was unmatched by anyone Brandon had seen. She was holding a golden cup with a Poke Ball on top of it, which Brandon immediately recognized as the Grand Festival Cup. A small, blue, catlike Pokemon, with a springy tail stood next to her, along with a black Pokemon with golden rings around its ears, on its head, and around its legs. Brandon recognized the two as Glameow and Umbreon.
“Hey Dawn, you never told me your Mom was a Grand Festival Champion!” Brandon said, shooting a teasing look at Dawn.
“You never asked silly!” Dawn replied in a sing-songy tone, winking at the teenager with a Riolu hanging onto his head.
“Hehe I guess you right.” Brandon said, taking off his cap and smoothening out his black hair. He smiled at Dawn, and she started to blush a slight tinge of red, but Brandon was too busy adjusting the cap to notice.
The two caught up with Brock, May and Ash, who were in Dawn’s room. Her room was a light pink, had a single bed covered in a sheet that had every type of poke ball in existence sewn onto it, and had maple picture frames of Dawn when she was little.
“Dawn, you were pretty cute as a little kid.” Brandon said, examining a photo of Dawn with her Mom.
“So what do you think of me now?” Dawn shot back , doing a little twirl and ending with a hand on her hip.
“U-uh your still cute, don’t worry!” Brandon stuttered, obviously not expecting that reaction from the blutnette.
“Your room is amazing Dawn!” May said, picking up the frame on Dawn’s that contained her Sinnoh Ribbons.
“Haha thanks!” Dawn said, while taking off her light brown bag containing all of her travelling necessities.
“So let’s see your haul guys!” Brock said, taking a seat on the foot of Dawn’s bed.
“Okay!” The two trainers said, taking out brown, plastic bags that were stuffed with supplies.
Brandon set Riolu on the bed, and he immediately went over to Dawn and sat next to her.
All of a sudden a bright flash of white light came from Brandon’s belt, and a small, dog-like brown Pokemon popped out. “Ee-Vee!”
“Haha Eevee, I see you wanted to join this party? Why don’t you take a seat on the bed?” Brandon said, petting the brown, Evolution Pokemon on the head.
Eevee jumped onto the bed, and sat next to Ash.
Brandon began to empty his bags out on the light blue carpet beside Dawn’s bed. A few transparent bottles containing liquids varying on colour came out, along with Poke Balls, yellow, blue, pink and red berries, green onions, red cans of chicken broth, and to everyone’s surprise, 5 symbols- a small lightning bolt, a heart, a flower, a flame, and a boulder.
“Are those Poke Ball seals?!” Brock asked with a questioning look on his face.
“You bet! Knock yourselves out!” Brandon said, looking over at Dawn for her reaction.
“I call this one!” May said, picking up the small, red flower.
“This one is mine!” Dawn said, picking up the small pink heart as she looked over at Brandon, who was conversing with Brock.
Hmm I wonder why Dawn looked at the heart and then at- OH it’s obvious now! May thought, smiling at her cunning ‘detective’ work.
“Hmm, I think this one is pretty cool.” Ash said, carefully examining the lightning bolt one.
“Well, when I was a Gym Leader, I specialized in rock-type Pokemon. I think I’ll take this boulder.” Brock said, happily picking up a way to show off his past.
“Cool! I get the flame!” Brandon said, pumping a fist in the air.
“Thanks Brandon!” Brock, May, Dawn and Ash happily exclaimed, high-fiving him.
“Haha no problem guys, I just wanted to thank you for being so great to me for the last little while.” Brandon said, beaming at them.
“It’s been great having you with us!” Brock said, folding his arms and nodding at Brandon.
“You bet, your awesome!” Ash said, high fiving him.
“Pi-Pika-Pi” Pikachu added, pumping a small, yellow paw in the air.
“Thanks guys!” Brandon said with a big grin on his face.
I really like these Humans. They are really nice, and I can sense they sincerely care about Us. Riolu thought, as he slowly walked over to Brandon.
“Hey Riolu what’s up?”
“Ri-Ri!” Riolu said, knowing only Brandon could interpret what he was saying.
“He said he really likes you guys, and he’s having a blast!” Brandon and Ash said simultaneously, both looking at each other with a confused look on their face.
“How did you know that Ash?” Brandon asked, amazed the Trainer from Pallet could understand Pokémon so well.
“Uh, I dunno, I’ve helped out a Riolu before?” Ash said, wondering how he himself could understand the Aura Pokemon.
Brandon, I have never told you this, but you and Ash have a very similar Aura. Aura is basically the essence of life. It surrounds living beings, and is a form of spiritual energy.
“R-really?” Brandon said, mouth agape in shock at the knowledge of the little fighter Pokemon.
Yes. I believe Ash already knew this however, he did not know you two have almost identical Aura’s. That is probably why you two connect with each other, and are very similar. It is also why you both can understand Pokémon very well.
“Wow. That’s pretty cool!” Brandon said, smiling at Riolu.
Y-you’re not mad that I didn’t tell you earlier!? Riolu said, his eyes glistening with tears.
“No, Riolu you must have had a really good reason not to tell me, and besides you one of my closest friends!” Brandon said, picking up the blue, black masked fighting-type Pokémon and giving him a hug
T-t-thank you Brandon, you’re the best! Riolu thought, this time smiling at Brandon.
“Aww that’s so cuuute” May gushed, putting a exposed arm around Dawn.
“I know right May?” Dawn said, smiling at May and putting her free arm around May.
“Wow, I knew there was something special about you Brandon, but I never could have guessed this would be it! I guess I should have picked up on how you and Ash are almost identical in personality.” Brock said, taking off his forest-green vest.
“Brandon, what else did you buy?” The young blunette asked, curiously picking up a transparent bottle containing a pink liquid.
“Well there’s Potions, Poison Heals, Parlyz Heals, Burn Heals, Full Restores, Awakenings, Rawst Berries, Oran Berries, Sitrus Berries, Lum Berries and Pecha Berries for the Pokemon. Then for us, I bought some chicken broth, green onions, Poke Balls, and another suprise!”
The raven-haired boy said, pulling out five Poke Balls with black tops, and a yellow half ring on the black part of it.
“Hey these are Ultra Balls!” May exclaimed, her deep, sapphire eyes widening in shock.
“Wow Brandon, your amazing!” Dawn said, giving Brandon a massive hug, nearly choking him.
“T-thanks Dawn, u-uh your kinda strangling me here..” Brandon said as he felt his face heat up and turn ruby red.
Dawn, not knowing what had come upon her, blushed a furious shade of red, and let go of Brandon. “Sorry! I didn’t mean to do that!” She exclaimed, hiding her face in her hands.
“Didn’t mean to hug me, or strangle me?” Brandon asked, winking at the blue-haired Coordinator.
“Oh haha.” Dawn sarcastically said, smiling at the Trainer with jet-black hair, black, rectangular glasses, and a toned body.
He’s so...cute..I wish- Dawn’s daydream was rudely interrupted by the feeling of something jumping on her head.
“Riolu, you should ask before you jump on people’s head you know?” Brandon said, petting the blue, Aura Pokémon with a black mask of fur on its face.
I know, but she seemed like she was really out there! Riolu protested, a smile quickly growing on his face.
“Hey, I’m still here you know!” Dawn said, irritated her fantasy was interrupted before she got to see the end.
I’m sorry Dawn, if you want I’ll get off. Riolu said, slowly lowering himself from Dawn’s white, beanie hat.
“No, no it’s okay Riolu, if you want you can stay there!” Dawn said, winking at Brandon, who, although was slightly blushing nodded back.
Yay! Riolu said, pumping a fist into the air.
“Haha, Oh yeah, I almost forgot. My Mom told me a little about this region I’ve never been to. It’s called Uno-“ Brandon started, only to be interrupted by Dawn.
“Unova! Zoey was telling me about it too! We can all go together! There’s contests, a Pokemon League!” Dawn said excitedly, hoping her long-time friends would say yes.
“Well, I’m all in.” Brandon said, crossing his arms and nodding at Dawn.
Her heart skipped a beat. The Butterfree in her stomach erupted and she smiled like she had never smiled before. “That’s great!” She said, giving Brandon a big hug, but being careful not to squeeze too hard.
“Well, I want to go too!” Brock said high fiving Dawn.
“Me three!” May said, hugging Dawn, Brandon and Brock.
“Well looks like all five of us will be going!” Ash said, smiling and joining in the group hug.
“We’re pretty much stocked up for the trip, Brock we might need to get some beef and chicken though.” Brandon said, observing the rations.
“For sure, if you want, you can come with me later!” Brock said, crossing his finger’s that he’d have some company.
“No problem. Oh wait, Brock I need to go to the Pokemon Center, can you come with me?” Brandon said, looking at the time.
“Sure.” Brock said, adjusting his forest-green vest.
The two left, Riolu and Eevee meanwhile stayed with Dawn, Ash and May.
Brock and Brandon walked down the oak stairs, and out the front door. They passed through the quiet town of Twinleaf, the only sounds that could be heard were the flocks of Starly flying above. The dirt path they were on finally led to the Pokemon Center, in all its red roofed glory.
Brandon said to Brock, “I came here to send Empoleon to Professor Oak to get some training done. I have a few Pokemon I want to bring out, but I need your help deciding which one. I knew Ash would go with the strongest, Dawn and May with the cutest. I need your unbiased opinion though!”
“I hear you. Well let’s go on VideoCall and talk to Professor Oak so I can see what different types of Pokemon you have, shall we?” Brock said, pointing at the video chat computers.
Brandon pushed the ON button on the small, sleek, shiny black machine and dialled in Professor Oak’s number.
“Hello there Brandon! What a nice suprise!” Professor Oak’s face popped up on the screen. He took off his white lab coat, and ran his hand through his greying hair.
“Hey Professor, guess who I met!” Brandon said, a grin slowly forming on his face.
“Who?” Professor Oak said, scratching his chin.
Brock said, “Hey Professor!” and waved at the webcam.
“Goodness! It is a small world is it not? You must have also met Ash, Dawn and May! This calls for a haiku!” He said, beaming.
“Trainers meet together,
Ash, Brandon dreaming the same,
To be a master.”
“I think that’s your best one yet Professor!” Brandon joked, winking at his old friend.
“Oh haha, very funny!” Oak said, not being cheap with the sarcasm.
“I suppose you want to show Brock your Pokémon?”
“You bet! Also I’m sending Empoleon back, he misses the lab!” Brandon said, picking up the
red and white sphere which the emperor penguin Pokémon called home.
Out of the door came a light-purple, cat-like Pokémon, a icy blue, stealthy Pokémon, a yellow jagged fur Pokémon, a blue dragon Pokémon with red wings, and an intimidating stare, a large, green gecko Pokémon with yellow bulbs on its back, a silvery Pokémon covered in steel armour with two large horns and a beak like horn near its mouth, and a large, orange dog with black markings jumped into the picture gracefully. A black, brave bird Pokémon, along with a large, brown fierce looking bird, and a steel bird-like Pokémon flew in.
“Wait, if I’m correct there’s a Espeon, Glaceon, Salamence, Sceptile, Aggron, Arcanine, Staraptor, Pigeot, and Skarmory?”
“Yea- wait Professor, where are the others??” Brandon said, looking rapidly around at the gathering of Pokémon.
“Oh that’s odd, hang on let me check the computer.” Professor Oak said, obviously dumbstruck as to where the two could have disappeared to.
All of a sudden, a dark black Pokémon, with sharp claws appeared near Professor Oak’s back, and a blue and red bird flew in.
“AHHHHH WEAVILE, THAT WASN’T VERY NICE OF YOU! YOU COULD HAVE GIVEN ME A HEART ATTACK!” Professor Oak shouted, falling down in front of the speedy, black ice type.
“HAHA!” Brock and Brandon, laughing so hard that they didn’t notice Weavile slowly going in front of the webcam.
“We? Vile-Vile-Vile!” Weavile looked curiously at the screen, and saw Brandon.
“Hey buddy!” Brandon said, smiling at Weavile.
“We-We-Vile!” The warrior-like weasel Pokémon exclaimed.
“Toge?” A white, Pokemon with red and blue markings slowly entered the screen. Its presence was enough to calm Professor Oak down. “So Togekiss, how’s it goin?” Brandon asked.
“Toge-Toge-Kiiii!” Togekiss said, excitedly flying up and down.
“All your Pokemon look amazing!” Brock said, smiling at seeing all the different Pokémon.
He and Ash aren’t that different..Both have the same love for Pokemon, and the right mix of determination, strength and battle knowledge. Oh yeah and they are BOTH helpless with girls. Brock thought to himself, chuckling at the last one.
Back in Dawn’s room, Riolu was playing with a little blue penguin Pokemon, and Eevee was curling up into Dawn’s lap, enjoying the warmth of the blunette’s legs. May had let her Glaceon out, and she was talking intensely with Pikachu.
“Brandon’s Pokemon sure seem to like you Dawn!” May said, smiling at the fact she knew why.
“I guess.” Dawn said, wishing the Trainer would mirror the affections his Pokemon were showing.
“Well you know, Pokemon supposedly ‘mirror’ the feelings of their Trainer.” May said, taking off her white and black gloves.
“R-really? I never knew that..” Dawn said, startled by the tidbit of information, as she slowly stroked Eevee.
“Dawn, do you..Yenno...Like him?” May carefully asked, scooting closer to Dawn.
“WHA- NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!!!” Dawn exclaimed, trying to hide the obvious truth by hiding her head in her white beanie hat.
“It’s okay Dawn, I already know you really like him. You keep looking at him, whenever he smiles at you, you blush, and I could tell when he said he was coming with you to Unova, it meant a lot to you.” May said, listing of the many signs that Dawn had a crush on the raven-haired boy with glasses.
“And don’t worry. He’s kinda cute!” May said winking at Dawn.
“I know..It’s just I don’t think he feels the same way about me!” Dawn said, sinking back into her bed.
“He probably does, but he’s too much like Ash- they’re both so DENSE!” The Coordinator from Hoenn said, smiling at the last comment.
“Haha your right. Hey, maybe Riolu knows? He can read Aura’s and feelings so..” Dawn started, hoping for the best.
“Yeah. Riolu come here for a sec!” May said with a swagger in her voice, knowing full well what the little Aura Pokemon would say.
Back at the Center, Brock and Brandon carefully examined the group of Pokémon in front of them.
“So, who to choose?”
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CLIFFHANGERSo who do you guys think Brock will choose?
Good part. It was refreshing to see Riolu not only show an all-business side, but to act somewhat child-like (like he probably should) for a while. I also like how you're including Unova even though it just cam out. Good job including symbols that represent the characters also.
Overall good chapter, and I'm looking forward to the next part.
Here's chapter 6! Enjoy!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CHAPTER 6
As a former Gym leader, who knew a lot about Pokémon, Brock scanned the scene trying to pick out the healthiest looking Pokémon. Hmm, Weavile and Togekiss look the healthiest, and strongest. Salamence looks strong, but lazy. Everyone else is pretty good, but those guys look the best. I wonder why Glalie’s eyes are a different colour?
“So Brock, who should I pick?” The toned boy sitting in the light brown, maple chair asked.
“ Togekiss and Weavile.” Brock said, in a matter-of-fact tone, while going over the Pokemon again.
“Scept!” Sceptile protested, falling over in shock.
“Don’t take it personally Sceptile, your amazing. I think Togekiss and Weavile might be better choices, just to differentiate the typing on Brandon’s team.”
All of a sudden, a bright flash of light came from Brandon’s belt.
“Pi-Pi!” Pichu said, pointing at the screen.
“You want to go home, don’t you?” Brandon asked, seeing the small, yellow baby Pokémon’s hazel eyes glisten.
Brandon picked up the baby electric mouse, and gave him a hug. He scratched Pichu behind his large, black outlined ears, much to the small mouse Pokemon’s delight,
“Pi-pichu!”.
“Pichu...You miss Mom?” Brandon said, his normally cheery voice filled with sadness. He had raised this Pokemon, from an Egg from a Trainer in Hoenn- Mauville City to be exact. He thought about how he had met Pichu, and slowly fell into a daydream.
As he walked through the busy streets of the bustling city, Brandon finally found the local Pokemon Gym. As he entered the Gym, he was shocked at the display of colourful electric bolts, contained only be a large glass case. As he walked towards the battle field, a husky, deep voice stopped him.
“Hey you, are ya the latest challenger?” The mystery man asked, sounding bored.
“Yes sir, if you don’t mind I’d like to challenge you.” The young, confident boy said, brushing a tuft of jet-black hair out of his face.
“Alright then, let’s make it quick!” The grey-bearded Gym Leader said, taking the young boy lightly.
The two made their way to the dirt battlefield, each going on an opposite side. A toned, young man stood in the middle.
“This 3 on 3 battle between Watson, Gym Leader of Mauville City, and the Challenger, Brandon from Celadon City will now commence! Only the challenger may make substitutions. Begin!” The young man, with black shorts and a yellow referee shirt exclaimed, as he looked on at the unfolding scene of events.
“Go, Magneton!” Watson shouted, hurling a red and white Pokeball onto the field and releasing a very odd looking Pokemon in a bright flash of light. It was composed of 3 round magnetic “heads”, and each one had an eye., along with a horseshoe magnet sticking from each side.
“Hmm, this looks strong. I need you Lairon!”, Brandon said, as he set free the Iron Armour Pokemon. Its body was a dark gray and its eyes are sky blue. Its back was covered with segments of iron armor, each with a high ridge and round dark holes on the sides.
“Lairon, use Iron Head!” Brandon said, knowing full well ground type moves couldn’t hit the Magnet Trio Pokemon due to its’ ability, Levitate.
“Magneton, Thunder!” The grey-haired Gym Leader yelled, with a confidence in his voice that was becoming all too familiar with the lack of strong trainers.
Unfortunately for Watson, the steel Pokemon scored the first hit, knocking Magneton into the gray, steel walls surrounding the field with its hard, glowing head. Magneton landed with a loud ‘Klang’ on the hard, dirt field.
“Magneton no!” Watson shouted to no avail. All 3 eyes had swirls.
“Magneton is unable to battle. Victory goes to Lairon!” The yellow-shirted, brown-haired referee said.
Watson held out Magneton’s Pokeball, and the magnet Pokemon disappeared in a red beam of light. He looked over at Brandon in awe. “Beginners luck.” Watson plainly said.
“Whatever you say sir.” Brandon said, putting a lot of emphasis on the last word, knowing full well he was going to be victorious.
“Go Manetric!” Watson said, discharging a wolf-like Pokemon. It had a yellow mane on its head, as well as yellow clumps of fur at the top of its hind legs and around its front two feet.
“Hmph. Lairon, use Stone Edge and get it over with.” Brandon said lazily, yawning and twiddling his fingers.
“Oh yeah? Manetric, Flamethrower!” Watson said, laughing at the advantage he had.
A strong, stream of flames headed towards Lairon. Lairon however, had a bright, white light crossing around him in a circular motion, and all of a sudden the light turned to sharp stones, which the steel type Pokemon subsequently fired. The stones cut through the bright, white and red flames, dissipating them in a heartbeat. The sharp edges of the stones made contact with Manetric, who instantly crumpled in a heap.
“Lairon, finish this with Ice Beam.” Brandon plainly said, pointing his gloved finger at the fallen electric wolf.
Lairon fired off a strong, blue beam of ice energy, and Manetric froze into a block of ice.
“M-Manetric is u-unable to b-battle. L-Larion w-wins..” The ref said, clearly in shock at the young boy who was clearly demolishing a fully qualified Gym Leader.
“Ho hum, your quite the trainer, eh lad?” Watson said, grinning at the boy from Celadon.
“I just try to do my best Watson. Quite impressive your Manetric knows Flamethrower though.” Brandon said respectfully to the man who was aging on the outside, but was truly young on the inside.
“Well it all comes down to this.” Watson said, as the two’s eyes met, sparks flying.
“Go Electrike!” Watson said, discharging a small, green, dog-like Pokémon with yellow markings.
“Lairon, return. Grovyle your up!” He said, releasing a large, green gecko-like Pokemon.
“Grovyle use Leaf Blade, then follow up with Bullet Seed!” Brandon said a hint of hurriedness in his voice, wanting to get out of the Gym as quickly as possible.
“Oh yeah? Electrike, Thunderbolt!” The old man said, his face creasing as he frowned in determination.
Unfortunatley for the small, agile canine, Grovyle was a tad faster, and struck with his strong Leaf Blade, and followed up with a volley of seeds, shot at a fast rate. Before Watson could say “Mew” Electrike was down for the count.
“Grovyle, Sunny Day.” Brandon said to the wood-gecko Pokemon.
Grovyle nodded it’s head, and his leaves began to glow, a stunning gold.
“GROOOOOOO!” Grovyle exclaimed, releasing the energy towards the glasses roof.
All of a sudden, the sun intensified. As it shone through the window, the temperature climbed. Beads of sweat formed on both of the trainer’s faces, and dropped down their cheeks.
“C’mon Electrike, I believe in you!” Watson shouted, looking on in horror at the pain his friend was in.
Electrike slowly got up. Brandon issued no command to attack Electrike while it was slowly getting up.
“How come you aren’t commanding Grovyle to finish it now?” Watson asked, wondering what the young boy with glasses could be doing.
“Your Electrike is in immense pain. I see the bond between you two, and I’m merely respecting that by giving you a fighting chance..” Brandon said, keeping a simple look on his face.
“Well Electrike, use FLAMETHROWER!” Watson said, knowing his opponent was no ordinary trainer.
“Grovyle block it with Solar Beam!”
The Sunny Day attack helped Grovyle fire off a large, white beam of energy, almost instantly. As the beam of light hurtled towards the green canine, it fired off a scorching path of white flames. The two strong attacks collided, and a massive explosion occured.
As the smoke cleared, Grovyle was on one knee, and had a green aura surrounding him. Electrike however, was on its back, with swirls in its eyes.
“Electrike is unable to battle, Brandon wins!” The judge exclaimed, pointing a green flag in the direction of the young man from Celadon.
“Looks like you got pushed hard in that battle, did you get hit with the flames?” Brandon said to his green, wood gecko Pokémon.
“Gro..” Grovyle said, nodding, while trying to bite back the pain.
“Good job though, you deserve a nice long rest.” He said, as he returned Grovyle to its Poke Ball in a flash of red light
He accepted the coiled-wire shaped badge, gratefully from Watson, and went on his way, to Verdanturf Town.
As he passed by, an Old Man came running to him. “Sir, please help! Someone is trying to steal all the eggs from the DayCare!”
“Let’s hurry then!” Brandon said, knowing exactly who was behind this.
“Prepare for trouble, from the skies” A feminine voice said in an angry voice.
“From beyond the stars a nasty surprise!” A male voice said, while jumping down from his perch.
“An evil as old as the galaxy..” The feminine voice said again, this time stepping out from the Egg Incubation room.
"Sent here to fulfill our destiny!" The trio shouted, pointing black, gloved fingers at Brandon.
“Plus dere’s me!” A scratchy voice said, walking forwards to reveal a cat-like silhouette.
“To denounce the evils of truth and love!” The female stated, stepping out from the shadows to reveal herself as an average sized woman, with long locks of straight, red hair, which stood in a gravity defying state.
“To extend our reach to the stars above!” A purple haired man said, taking a Poke Ball from his belt.
“Jessie!”
“And James!”
“An’ Meowth are de names!”
“Anywhere there’s peace in the universe..” The red haired woman said, waiting for her purple haired partner in crime to recite his line.
“Team Rocket..”
“Will be dere” The cream coloured cat-like Pokémon said, awaiting the grand finale.
“To make everything worse!” They all shouted, pointing their gloved fingers at the Old Man and his Wife.
“Oh no not you!” Jessie wailed, noticing a certain Trainer from Celadon.
“Yeah, what’s de big deal?” Meowth growled, staring Brandon down.
“Glad to see you guys too! Glalie, use Ice Beam into Blizzard and knock these clowns
away!”
“Somethin tells me we’re in fo’ a rough landin..” the Scratch-Cat Pokémon said.
“I hear you..” James said, disappointedly.
“Remind me why we didn’t buy a big machine?” Jessie asked Meowth.
“We savin it fo’ de twerp. And dis guy would destroy it! And we a little low on funds fo’ de moment.” Meowth said, twiddling his paws.
“Is it just me, or is it getting cooler?” James said, looking obviously worried.
“Mime-mime!” A small pink Pokémon, perched on James’s shoulder, with a black torso, a red clown nose on its face, and a black, crooked hat with a white ball on it said.
“GLAAAAAA!” The white, ice type Pokémon exclaimed, summoning forward a ferocious blizzard. As soon as the trio was chattering, knees banging together, Glalie unleashed a super powerful, whitish blue beam of ice, that sent the trio of bandits flying.
“Team Rocket’s blasting off again!” They yelled, flying into the sunset.
“Phew, sure glad that’s over.” The Old Man said.
“Dear, we must thank this young Trainer- He probably saved the DayCare!” The Daycare
Man’s Wife said.
“I know just the way! Wait here!” The Old Man said, heading into the Egg Incubation Room.
He came out with a yellow egg, which had a black zigzag around the middle. It was in a glass container, which contained a minimized Poke ball on top. He handed it to the young trainer, and sent him off. “Go now, continue your great journey! We’ll be cheering on from here!”
“Thanks so much for the Egg! I can’t wait to see what it hatches into!”
“Uh, earth to Brandon?” Brock said, waving his muscular hands in front of the day dreaming Trainer’s face.
“Huh? Oh sorry Brock, I was just thinking about how I got the Egg, that eventually hatched into Pichu..” Brandon said, looking down fondly at the small, yellow electric mouse.
“Pi..” Pichu’s eyes began to water with tears. He held onto Brandon, more tightly than he ever had, trying to put unspoken words into the hug between the two friends.
“Don’t worry Pichu, I’ll definitley call on you! Make sure to take care of Mom for me! Love you!” He said, taking out Pichu’s Poke Ball, and returning him in a red flash of light.
He nodded at the Professor on screen, and sent Pichu and Empoleon back to the Lab.
Three round sphere’s came back to Brandon. One was all black, with a red ring on the top, and across the middle, another had a half blue, half black top with a yellow Moon on top, and a blue Poke Ball, with a yellow diamond in the center, and a yellow line, that made an X shape on the Poke Ball. These contained Togekiss, Sceptile and Weavile, respectively. He held them up, for the Professor to see they safely got to him, and the Professor did likewise.
“Thanks Professor!” Brandon said as he clipped the three new additions to his black belt.
“No problem! Make sure you catch some new Pokémon in that new region!” The old man
with graying hair said, winking at the young Trainer.
“Haha, I can’t believe Mom already told you!” Brandon replied, laughing at how quick word got around.
“Take care!” Professor Oak said, turning off the screen.
“Alright Brandon, we better go get the meat and head back to Dawn’s.” Brock said, watching the gray, steel hands of his all-terrain watch inch towards the 6’O clock mark.
“Your right, let’s go!” Brandon exclaimed, watching the blinking numbers on his PokeGear’s built in watch.
Meanwhile, Ash had come back inside after a hard hour of training. He went to Dawn’s room, and saw a brown, puppy-like Pokémon on Dawn’s lap, a icy blue Pokémon talking to Pikachu, and a little blue penguin Pokémon sleeping in the corner. He smiled warmly at the young girl from Petalburg, who was fidgeting with her new green bandana, which had a white Poke Ball outline on the side of it. He then focused his attention to Dawn, who was scratching behind Eevee’s ears.
“Hey, where’s Riolu?” Ash said, looking around for Brandon’s longtime friend.
All of a sudden, he heard a whoosh and felt something fall onto his head. He scrambled franticly, and all of a sudden he heard Riolu speak.
Hahahaha! I was waiting for you to come on top of Dawn’s door, and you just fell right into the trap! Riolu said, rolling off Ash’s head and onto the floor, while laughing so hard that it was crying.
“Haha, your pretty stealthy!” Ash said, smiling at the fun side of Riolu, which seemed to grow every day he got to know the Aura Pokémon.
“We’re back!” Brock and Brandon said in unison, carrying two stuffed, translucent grocery bags.
The two emptied out the groceries on Dawn’s maple floor, as Ash and May sat on her beige, heart shaped carpet. Dawn meanwhile, was still playing with Eevee on her bed, this time throwing a green ball with a bell in it, which Eevee couldn’t get enough of. As Brandon removed sealed containers with various meats, Brock stocked his navy cargo bag with some containers of meat, and bags of spices they picked up.
“So we have one container extra. Brock, should I take it?” Brandon asked, picking up the plastic ziploc container, that was stocked with meat.
“Yeah, sure. You have some vegetables, and I’ll give you some spices. You never know when you may need this ration, right?” Brock said, glad that the kid was showing a maturity far beyond his age.
Brandon put the ziploc in his bag, and Brock handed him a bag, with various spices. May’s eyes began to close, and her head fell onto Ash’s shoulder. Ash, who was unaware of this because he was playing with Pikachu, felt the soft thud of May’s head onto his shoulder.
“Uhh, May?” He asked tentatively, prodding May’s head.
As May slowly woke up, she yawned, and then realized the only place her head could be right now. “Huuh-WHAT!? I’m sorry Ash! I really didn’t mean to doze off like that.” She said, apologetically while blushing, her face redder than the bottle of ketchup Brandon was giving Pikachu.
“ Haha, it’s no problem May, I’ll set up your sleeping bag- you look really tired!” Ash said, getting May’s red sleeping bag out from under Dawn’s bed.
“Aww thanks Ash, you’re a sweetheart!” She replied, giving the young trainer a gentle hug.
“No problem May!” Ash said, happily doing whatever he could to make his friends happy.
As Brock and Brandon watched on, Brock said “It amazes me the length Ash goes to make sure we’re happy. You also. You guys are just so alike!”
“Haha, well we just want everyone to be happy. Actually, Brock we should probably get Eevee to freeze the meat so it doesn’t spoil.” Brandon said, looking at Eevee and beckoning it over with a nod of the head.
“Eee-Vee!” Eevee said, unleashing a gentle, watered down version of her powerful Ice Beam attack.
The meat sparkled, encased in a thin layer of ice. Brandon petted the strong, brown Evolution Pokemon, and she cooed affectionately. As Brandon and Brock finished putting the containers away, May climbed into her sleeping bag and fell asleep. Her brown hair cascaded down her cheeks, and her eyelids covered her deep, sapphire eyes. She was so tired, she forgot to take off the emerald green bandana she was wearing, along with the sleeveless vest and black shorts she was wearing, that clung to her skin tightly enough so everyone could see her curves, but not tightly enough for them to make people stare. She was after all, daughter of a very prestigious Gym Leader, and as such had to keep out of trouble.
“May was so beat, she forgot to change!” Ash said, moving her yellow sleeping shirt to the side, along with the loose, black pants she wore to sleep.
“I guess, I’m pretty beat too, so let’s head to sleep! Good night Dawn!” Brandon exclaimed, winking at the blunette. She blushed and replied “Good night guys!” as she brushed her navy blue hair out of her face.
“Come Riolu, Pikachu! Eevee, if you want, you can stay out of your ball!” Brandon said to the three Pokemon, who followed the trio out of the room.
Brock, Brandon and Ash headed to the spare room. They rolled out the sleeping bags, and Riolu took a corner on Brandon’s sleeping bag, while Eevee curled up beside the young, raven haired boy. As he took his glasses off and set them on the table, he said, “Well, good night guys!”
“Good night!” Ash replied, taking off his red and black hat with a green Poke Ball symbol on the front, while placing it on the same table that Brandon’s glasses were on. He then took his sweater off, and hung it up on the coat rack by the door, which already had a forest green vest which belonged to Brock, and a black sweater with a yellow strip across the middle which belonged to Brandon.
“Night guys! Sleep well, tomorrow is our last day here, and then we catch a plane to Unova!” Brock said, pulling the light blue covers over his toned body.
Today was fun, I wonder what tomorrow will bring?
Neat chapter update. This seemed longer than your other ones, but I'm not sure if it actually was. Anyway, I appreciated how you changed the accent around to try to show how Meowth talks and makee it more personal for him. You really have some nice little descriptions of battles and attacks there also. It also works for your story that your characters are very straight-forward and open-minded.
Keep updating.
I apologize for the long away time.. I am back now, and fresh ideas are now in my head! I left because I didn't have any fun doing this fic writing chapter 7, but so many new ideas after the break+re reading the whole thing!
Man, I really am stuck with ideas again..
Sorry to hear it, Wuster.
If you head over to the Writer's Lounge, there might be some threads about writer's block and things like that that might potentially be helpful.
Or you could always make a new thread in the Lounge and post about what you're struggling with and people will see if they can help.
Either way, I hope the ideas start flowing for you soon!
