    TEAM BTPOKE'S SAFARI ADVENTCHA!

    Shinsuke Volcano
This Volcanic Island - previously hidden away; can now be seen from the shore. A massive pool of magma lies deep in its center, but one can walk down quite a ways and find a variety of Fire Types enjoying the heated tunnels. Some hardier Flying Pokemon line the edges of the Volcano as well. A tall Pagoda stands on the Island as well, the only man-made structure here. If you fish from shore, Water Pokemon encounter rates are the same as for Tranquil Shores.

    ‡ Round 100 ‡

Ever the sneaky little spy, you pursue your targets into the Hondour Den. The cave is surprisingly dry for a seaside cove and smells horribly like doggy kibble. Blah. Stepping into a massive cavern lit by a crackling fire, you, Sake and Rosalinda duck behind a particularly large boulder and peer out to see what's happening.

You see Torchic surrounded by a pack of Houndours. They look hungry.

"Hrm... what do we do now?" Druddigon whispers to you.

    How do you proceed?

    > Attack!
    > Beg for the Houndours' mercy
    > Trick them into giving up Torchic
    > Create a distraction

    ‡ Round 36 ‡

You feign some horrible sickness. Mr. Mime looks skeptically at you and you imagine that he probably gets this a lot.

"Well, I'd hate to disturb Headmistress Ernesta over something as trifling as this. Here, let me see what I can do," he says. He snaps his fingers, casting a Healing Wish over you. "Wonderful. Now, where's your next class?"

    TEAM RAZOR LEAF'S SAFARI ADVENTCHA!

    Ruskie Tundra
This wide expanse of icy land extends as far as the eyes can see. Rolling snow dunes and harsh hailing conditions make it an idea place for Ice Pokemon, and only the sturdiest of winter loving beasts.

    ‡ Round 34 ‡

You shout commands that are carried off by the wailing winds. Just as you wonder whether they had any effect whatsoever, the Blizzard begins to part as the sun overhead shines like a brilliant ball of white gold.

"We're going to make a break for the Diamond Dust Cavern," the alpha Stantler says to you as he emerges out of the furious storm. "We need you to give us cover. Good luck."

The Stantlers break into a mad dash toward the rocky outcrop.

Letting out a piercing scream, Froslass starts shrieking at you. She seems unable to communicate in an intelligible way. That's when you notice something small by her side.

The child's face is flushed. It looks ill.

    How do you proceed?

Tesla, provide cover for the Stantler, aim Shock Waves at anything that tries to attack them, until they reach the caves.

Hanzo, I'm going to speak to the Froslass. If it looks like she's not understanding me then relay what i'm saying to her telepathically.

Froslass, I'm not going to hurt you, or your child. If your Snorunt is ill then I can help, just like I helped the injured Stantler.

Tesla keeps watch over the Stantlers as they sprint toward the Diamond Dust Cavern. Your attention, however, is focused entirely on the Froslass as offer to assist her child.

    ‡ Round 37 ‡

"Ahh, I see," Mr. Mime says, whipping out a digital tablet. He pokes it a few times and then nods. "Okay, so you must be Cynder H. Mankey. And you three... Sabaku F. Trapinch, Brenton T. Cyndaquil and Rhode R. Rhyhorn? Yes, it says here you're new to the Pokemon Collegiate Institute. Well, how about you join my class in the meantime, then?"

And without another word, he grabs you by the wrist and leads you down the hallwayy. Your Pokemon, unsure what to do, decide to follow you. Mr. Mime leads you into a classroom where, on the board, you see the words "Battle Tactics 101" written on the board. Two dozen inattentive students are slouching in their seats inattentively. Mr. Mime directs you to four empty desks at the front.

"You've picked a wonderful day to join us," Mr. Mime declares. "Today is review day! I'll be posing some questions to the class and if you know the answers, feel free to respond. If I get the impression that your knowledge is too advanced to take this class, then I'll let you go to Headmistress Ernesta and she'll see about scheduling you into a class that's more suited to your skills, yes? Now, class... can anyone tell me the name of the in-battle effect item that causes the holder to endure a Burn?"

    No one responds.

"Oh, come on, guys," Mr. Mime says, rolling his eyes. "We spent an entire class on this last week!"

    ‡ Round 101 ‡

Emerging from your hiding space, you leap into action. Rosalinda Teleports beside Torchic, grabs onto the little bird and then carries her over to you. Druddigon, meanwhile, directs a burst of water and a cave-shaking quake to strike the Houndours while Sake fires off an Aura Sphere into the chaos. Torchic bounces toward you.

"Thank you for saving me!" she cheeps. "And after how rude I was to you... I'm so sorry!"

Before you can respond, however, three Houndours leap out of the swirling mess of water and aura. They look... pissed.

The dogs then release a trio of Flamethrowers at Sake, Rosalinda and Druddigon.

    ‡ Round 102 ‡

You fight back at the dogs with everything you have, delivering Earthquakes and Brick Breaks in droves. Rosalinda Protects Sake and Druddigon from the Houndours' attacks, but her shield rapidly begins to weaken. After a few moments, it shatters, leaving the dogs free to strike without mercy. As they spread red-gold streams of fire all over your team, Sake and Rosalinda quickly develop Burns.

    Torchic tugs on your pantleg.

"Um... you might want to look behind you," she says.

You turn and see that the entrance to the den has been blocked. The ceiling has partially caved in thanks to Druddigon's Earthquakes, preventing your escape.

oh for the love of... Druddigon, use surf. Rosa, use psychic to create an orb of water out of the surf to envelop one of the houndour until it faints. Sake, use aura spheres and focus blasts to keep the other two away and stop their attacks.

Well, Hanzo's Heal Pulse worked because the Stantler was newly injured, I don't know how well it'll work on a pokemon that's been ill for some time. I think it's best we take the critter to the Diamond Dust Cave and see if there's a medic there. Tesla, I'm sure you can pick up the scent of the Stantler and lead us to the cave. Hanzo, keep an eye out just in case.

    ‡ Round 103 ‡

Druddigon roars and thrashes her arms around, causing waves to spill toward the three remaining Houndours. Rosalinda manipulates the water to trap one of the Houndours while Sake starts whipping Aura Spheres left and right, hitting target after target after target. When everything's said and done, the Houndours pull themselves up and realize they're not going to win this one. Howling in fear, they take off into the cavern and are soon out of sight. Phew.

"So... what are we gonna do about this?" Torchic asks, gesturing to the cave-in.

    ‡ Round 36 ‡

You wisely work out the limitations of Heal Pulse and offer to take the Snorunt and Froslass to the Diamond Dust Cavern.

Froslass eyes you with fear in her eyes but ultimately acquiesces. Using Tesla's terrific sniffer, you quickly make your way through the snow and, after no time, you find yourself drawing near a massive cavern that glitters silver and blue in the weak daylight. You enter and look around. You see the a Smoochum and a Cubchoo playing in the corner and a Delibird roosting up near the ceiling. A little further off, you see the Stantlers consulting with a Lopunny.

It looks safe in here, so I'll let Hanzo and Tesla get their strength back with a little rest. Meanwhile, I'll speak to the Stantler and Lopunny, I should check to see if the Stantler is feeling better.

There is more than one Pokemon that does that - listed there's...

Stantler, Ralts, Kirlia, Gardevoir, Munna, Woobat, Swoobat, Elgyem and Beheeyem all learn both of those moves by level up!

    ‡ Round 104 ‡

Sake and Druddigon try beating their way through the rocks. However, as the boulders smash and shift, new ones merely fall down from the ceiling to take their way. After a few minutes, the cave-in is even worse than it was to begin with.

"Geez, that's not accomplishing a lot," Torchic says. "I'm not being critical, though! You saved me. That was very nice. I'll, um, hush up now."

    How do you proceed?

    TEAM RAZOR LEAF'S SAFARI ADVENTCHA!

    Ruskie Tundra
This wide expanse of icy land extends as far as the eyes can see. Rolling snow dunes and harsh hailing conditions make it an idea place for Ice Pokemon, and only the sturdiest of winter loving beasts.

    ‡ Round 37 ‡

You let your Pokemon heal while you enter further into the cavern. Snorunt and Froslass hover around the entrance, clearly uncomfortable about mingling with other Pokemon.

You approach the Stantlers and the Lopunny.

"Oh, human, I didn't see you there," one of the Stantlers says. "We can't thank you enough for your assistance. Without you, we might not have made it here in time. This is Barnabas C. Lopunny, the best medic in all of Ruskie Tundra. He's examining our foal's leg now."

"Hrm," Barnabas murmurs, examining the little Stantler's wounded leg. "It's healed nicely, but the joint is still weak. It needs a properly made splint for it to get strong, but I don't have any materials to craft one. The supply of medicaments I ordered from Skyline Terrace has yet to arrive, so there's not much I can do for you, I'm afraid."

    How do you proceed?

    CYNDER'S SAFARI ADVENTCHA!

    Skyline Terrace
A strange town, all within the treetops. Long since abandoned by humans, the MASSIVE amount of Pokemon that live here all seem a bit strange and off kilter. The completely aerial town is connected by boardwalks, and the homes all resemble traditional Japanese style. One would think the townspeople were turned into Pokemon here!

    ‡ Round 39 ‡

You provide an answers to Mr. Mime's question... or, rather, a series of answers. He scratches his head sheepishly.

"Er, my bad," he says. "I meant to say which Normal-type Pokemon is the only one to learn both Calm Mind and Imprison by level-up, so yes, Stantler is the correct answer. You're really on your game, Cynder! I'm impressed. You might be too advanced for Battle Tactics 101."

You hear murmurs spreading around the room. You think your hear the words "teacher's pet" being used somewhere.

"But just to be sure," Mr. Mime continues, "I want to see what your battle skills are. So. Why don't you come up to the front of the room and show the class what your fiercest Thunderbolt looks like! It is, after all, one of Mankey's best weapons against pesky Flying-types."

You hesitate, perfectly aware that just because you look like a Mankey right now doesn't mean you are one.

    How do you proceed?

    ‡ Round 105 ‡

Sake, Ralts and Torchic get to work at Digging their way out of the cavern while Rosalinda restores everyone's health. You're doubtful at first, but the plan proves successful: they manage to create a burrow hole big enough for you to squeeze out! Huzzah! You get on all fours and wiggle through the narrow passage and soon come out on the other side safe and sound. You suck back fresh air joyously.

"Well, thanks, human!" Torchic says. "I appreciate your help. Unfortunately, I can't hang around any longer... I have another staring contest scheduled in about fifteen minutes! Eek! So if you're ever in Shinsuke again you should look me up and we'll hang. Tootles!"

And with that, Torchic waddles off.

    How do you proceed?

I do suppose I'll come to shinsuke again next time I'm in the safari zone. Seems like a great place.

Anyway, Druddigon, you worked great in there against all those houndour. I could use a pokemon like you on my team. What do you say? teammates?

You ask if Druddigon would like to join your team.

"You seem like a capable, compassionate trainer, human," Druddigon says. "Not many people would go to such lengths for a Torchic they don't even know. However, we haven't known each other very long. Would we be able to have a one-on-one battle? If you can overwhelm and catch me, then I would be honoured to serve as a member of your team."

Alright, I can respect that. You're on.

    Rosa, you're up.

Let's start off the battle by using telekinesis to make her easier to hit. Hit Druddigon with an Icy wind, then use Will-o-wisp to burn her.

Use psychic to redirect any attacks she sends at you.

    ‡ Round 107 ‡

As the battle begins, Rosalinda Telekinetically hoists Druddigon up off the ground as part of an attempt to decrease the Dragon's evasiveness. However, this doesn't stop Druddigon from letting out an earth-splitting roar that causes the rocky ground to quake beneath Rosalinda's feet. The little Ralts is tossed onto a jagged rock. Yowch.

However, her fighting spirit isn't so easily extinguished. Bouncing back up, she summons an Icy Wind to blow in off the ocean. Druddigon gets caught within the frigid swells and, shivering, she Glares horribly at Rosalinda. Rosalinda's body locks up which prevents her from performing a Will-O-Wisp. However, because of her Synchronous nature, Druddigon quickly succumbs to the same effect. Taking advantage of your Ralts's momentary immobility, Druddigon floats over to Rosalinda and plucks her off the ground with fearsome claws. Druddigon then begins exerting pressure, crushing her with as much might as she can muster. Rosalinda's defensive prowess dips.

Oh, erm, okay. I've never really polished my thunderbolt so my aim might be a little off. (psst Rhode, can you use t-bolt but make it look like it was me? Don't worry too much about the aim or power as long as nobody sees you helping me)

Alright, rosa. Time to bring the pain. use psychic to throw her to the nearest wall and pin her and all attacks that might come from her. Then, hit her with an onslaught of icy wind.

    ‡ Round 108 ‡

Everything begins to shake and quiver and you wonder momentarily whether Druddigon is calling up another Earthquake. However, that doesn't seem to be the case. You look overhead as a colossal Draco Meteor comes screaming toward earth. Using her Psychic powers, Rosalinda tries to shift the Draco Meteor's trajectory, but the thing is simply too big for that to be easily done. Nonetheless, your Ralts shows her mettle as she pours every inch of energy she has into that Psychic. At the last second, the Draco Meteor's trajectory shifts and, much to Druddigon's horror, it hits head instead. She's thrown to the ground for super effective damage and then freezes up thanks to Paralysis, leaving Rosalinda free to toss an Icy Wind into the mix.

It's Rosalinda's turn to go rigid with Paralysis as Druddigon clambers back up to her feet. She is quickly overcome with Outrage, thrashing about wildly as she throws her body at Rosalinda.
