Nice speculations, lad! I've yet to finish my Pokemon Moon as well and what's more, I don't know a thing about Lovecraft (there isn't even a Finnish Wikipedia article about Lovecraftian horror, which sucks), so I really can't contribute too much.

But what attracted my attention was the usage of Chinese characters

    emaciated, poor; rustic
freeze; be cold; be clear; attain skill

What's the deal with them? Or are they just copypaste glitches?

I think it's a glitch when I copy the name. I don't know about Chinese characters so I can't really have any ideas about that.
Lovecraftian horror is quite popular in entertainment industry. I mean you can see it almost everywhere, for example World of Warcraft with their idea of the Old Gods, or Bloodborne which has direct influence from this Lovecraftian lore. In case you want to see it more clearly, I suggest checking Youtube. There are tons of video about this Lovecraftian concept in these two examples.
