Default [PKMN - TCG] City Championships

Should be going on for some of you, or not. Mine's in a couple of week's time, and after a REALLY late start, I'm on the track to building a legal deck. Just jury-rigging my Nationals deck and conforming it to the current format, basically.

This is the deck as it looks:
    Pkmn
4 shuppet (already changed to CG, was LM)
    4 banette ex
    3 lunatone
    3 ralts
    2 kirlia
    3 gardy d

    Trainers
    1 H scientist
    1 H lass
    3 transceiver
    3 H mentor
    2 H adventurer
    3 TVR
    3 PETM
    3 TR admin
    2 TR mission
    2 swoop
    2 candy
    2 giant stump

    11 psychic
    3 metal

TV Reporter's out, along with TR Admin, Mission, and Swoop. Except for swoop, none are that important anyway, save Mission for it's disruption, which I seldom use anyway.

First order of business: upgrade shuppet to ascension. Just did it. Next, upgrade lunatone to mawille. Got one, 2 more to go. Which means I need another metal.

Free space total: 3+2+2=7. Metal pushes it down to 6.

    Current plan:

    +1 H.lass
    +3 scott (testing for speed)
    +1 TVR/adventurer (which?)
    +1 transceiver

Lass cuz I discovered it's big usefulness back in Nationals. The rest is self-explanatory. I'm also wondering if I should keep scientist. I found it rather useful when the opp has a really big hand.

No new support for banette, so gardy stays for the moment, since there's no new apparent threat now that all dark decks are gone

    Suggestions/fixes/comments/bashes/bitching welcome.

Yeah, I remember this deck from the last time we discussed it. Fun stuff.

Definitely increase the Tranceivers to 4; you need it for the Holon Engine. Scott's fine for your deck; try grabbing a Stump and two Supporters when you use it initially. That'll allow you to get some immediate use out of it when Stump's not already in play. (Incidentally, you may want to think about increasing the Stumps by one or two in order to get more use out of Scott and to guard against Stadium clearers.)

I prefer Adventurer over TVR, as you can get more out of your Holon Engine that way. In fact, you might think about going 4 Adventurers and dropping a Scott if you don't boost your Stump count.

Lass is alright, but don't get too reliant on it. Maybe it's just me, but whenever I use it, the thing has a tendency to backfire. (Another reason to play two instead of one...) Just test it a few times to see what the odds are of getting the energies you want when you want them.

Otherwise, I think this looks pretty good. Looking forward to your City Championships report!

Anyway, I'd be a little hesitant about dropping Gardy, as that's all he has that can heal. Admittedly, dropping it for Sableye might make let RK make Banette a little stronger earlier. However, with only 90 HP and the weakness of being an ex (not to mention the cap of 6 Supporter boosts on its attack), Banette needs something to keep it in the game long enough to evolve, attach energies, and do real damage.

As an ex, it definitely needs to take out at least two opponents before going down. But it may not be able to do that if it can't heal, so I think that's more important than dumping Supporters quickly.

Still, it's definitely an idea to consider. Maybe teching a Sableye or two would help. But with the natural limit on Banette's attack, I don't think it's worth completely dumping the Gardy line.

EDIT: Took a second look at the decklist and Tina's idea... you might want to think about dropping one or two Lunatones for the Sableye. Lunatone is nice for the Fire Pokemon Power block, but that could be treated as a tech for Ludicargo, Typhlo-liability, etc. using the Holon Engine to grab it.

Um yeah, if you'll read my whole post, you'll see that that decklist is what it looks like BEFORE the format change, and the notes below are my suggested changes.

Basically, adding mawille over lunatone (power does nuts w/o solrock yo). Granted, lunatone can attack on turn one, but mawille, despite it's more complicated energy cost, can search for ANY trainers INCLUDING supporters (hence scott), AND it does more damage, and a hefty 50 against EXes ain't shabby, plus metal support, can go quite a bit.

Seen sableye, unfortunately dependant on luck on whatever card it is on top. I could of course swap gardy for maggy, to use with sableye combo. Y'know, there's actually a nice idea, instead of searching for supporters. But I'd rather use those supporters, plus gardy does more damage, and is constructive.

Besides, removing gardy, and it's Energy Jump power, basically is like removing a supercharger. Despite my low energy costs, I still have energy droughts from not drawing energy (hence lass), and gardy's power seriously helps out, both in switching energy to attack as well as to retreat.

But it's a pretty swell idea. Maybe I'll try it out after CC.

EDIT: I got a nice idea while thinking about the sableye combo. The basic idea includes using holon ruins, but requires delta pkmn, which I alreayd have in the form of gardy. But that'll work only later in the game, so it'll be useless then. Then I thought, why not have delta basics? Smthng I don't need to swap for a big change?

    Amswer: ralts d.

So if I add in researcher, 3 holon ruins and switch for 3 ralts d, as well as reduce my gardy d to 2, AND up the scott to 4, I think I can make this happen. Add more boost to the early game set-up.

Now all I need is to find space for briney...
