Out of a desperate need for some discussion to happen in this topic, I'm creating this thread. I'm actually not sure whether it belongs in the GSC forum since it's a remake of Gold/Silver we're talking about, or the DP forum since the remake will be a 4th-gen game as Fire Red/Leaf Green is a 3rd-gen game...so I'm just posting this same topic in both fora. Who knows, the two topics might get completely different discussion since it's from the viewpoints of fans of different games.

First of all, there is still some debate over whether or not a remake is actually happening. I myself was one of the naysayers until I saw the info that Water Pokémon Master posted in this thread; I now believe it'll happen. For the sake of this thread, let's assume/pretend it will.

Here's one thing that just occured to me recently. In Fire/Leaf, we learned something surprising about the GSC Rival with the long red hair. How might this information impact the GS remake? Not at all? Brief mention in a hidden place? Rewriting of key dialogue in a rival encounter?

*ponders* While I understand and am somewhat swayed by WPM's argument, a possible GSC remake is purely theoretical at this point. Since there haven't been any real hints on this issue other than vague conclusions from hacks, it seems more closely related to GSC. I'll toss the DP version of this topic.

(Besides, Classic Generation needs the discussion more anyway.)

Quick question: What did we learn about the GSC rival in FrLg? I must have totally missed that in the midst of my gaming...

And I can see loads of possible features for a GSC remake. I'd like to see the Sevii Islands remain, and perhaps they could add a closer adaptation of the Orange Islands or something. (What can I say, I've wanted that for years.) Maybe that would offer further opportunities for encounters with the mysterious Red, too.

I dunno; I'm probably dreaming here. Still, I always loved the prospect of visiting the Orange Islands. Badges++!

What we learned about the GSC Rival:

It's not too surprising you missed it; the info is one of the harder-to-find entries in the Fame Checker and can only be found in the Sevii Islands after you've gotten both the Ruby Plate and the Sapphire Plate. Remember all the rumors, WAAY back in the day, that Giovanni was Ash's father? Well...he's someone's father...but it's not Ash...
