History: Nothing of interest here, sorry... His parents got along well, he lived in a decent house growing up, he isn't an angst-ridden bastard like most teens his age... He had it easy growing up.
As a little kid, he played on his big brother's old Atari 7800 and NES pretty much nonstop; from then on, he was addicted to video games, trying out and playing every game he could get his hands on, selling them for new ones, taking them apart... He wants to design his own video games someday, but his lack of an educational stepladder is kinda hindering that. He'll be lucky to get a job at Microsoft swapping Ringed Xbox 360's at his current rate.
Because of the hologram technology used in Duel Monsters, Roy treated the card game like a video game as well: That is to say, he picked it up, obsessed over it, and formed an entire deck of video game cards. As of April this year, he holds the title of the #1 ranked duelist in Florida.
Other: His catchphrase is "This isn't a video game, you know!".

Roy
Roy sat in the living room, sweat beading on his brow. He'd been in a heated game of Team Fortress 2 on his Xbox 360 for 4 hours now, dominating the leaderboard as a BLU Sniper with 384 points. The RED team, conversely, was led by a Pyro controlled by a guy with the gamertag "Kernel_Kustard," who Roy had declared his impromptu rival as soon as he, too, passed the 300-point mark.
"The middle point is clear." Roy said through his headset.
Roy had been playing on the map Granary, where both teams control two points and a middle point is up for grabs. Whichever team grabs it first can then capture the next point, and if they successfully defend all their points while capturing all their opponents' points, that team wins. Normally the match is good for a half an hour at best, but both teams relentlessly continued recapturing their second points as well as the central one, adding more time to the clock since early in the day.
"Are you sure?" one of Roy's teammates - an Engineer coming up behind him by the name of "smokeonthewater2238" asked. "They have two Spies now."
"I know." Roy replied. "One of them got cocky and tried to facestab our Heavy; I just headshotted the other one. Disguised as me. Put a Sentry on the crates before they can regroup."
Smokeonthewater2238 didn't reply; the Engineer turned and ran back inside the tunnel and up a series of ramps, leading to a stack of high crates surrounding the point. With the Engineer's trademark call of "Eeeerectin' a Dispenser!," a block-shaped building appeared atop the crate, buzzing loudly.
Roy kept an eye on the Engineer as he repeated the procedure, this time building a round object on a stand. It beep once as it sweeped its visor back and forth across the middle point.
"Roy!" a deep voice boomed. "Roy, you got a letter!"
Roy grimaced; a split-second later, a swishing, roaring filled his ears as his Sniper was engulfed in flames and screamed, falling over dead.
"Dominated, Budokai!" a voice yelled over his headphones.
"Damn it!" he growled as the Pyro who killed him ran off, away from the hail of bullets issuing from his teammate's machine.
"ROY!"
"Coming, Dad!" Roy called, switching the mic off for a second. "Smoke, I gotta go AFK for a sec. You got the point covered?"
"I think so." the Engineer replied.
"Yeah, I got it." another voice added; a Demoman scrambled onto the point and began firing sticky bombs onto it. "We got a Heavy on the way, too."
"Great." Roy replied, taking off his headphones. "Bee are bee."
Roy got up and ran to the kitchen.
"What is it Dad?" he whined. I'm in the middle of a match!"
"That's fantastic." his father replied, handing him a thick envelope with a wax seal on it. "You got a letter. You know, those things people used before instant messaging?"
"That was years ago. Everyone uses Skype now."
"...Just open it."
Roy grabbed a knife and stuck it under the seal, breaking it and tearing the envelope open. Several shiny objects fell from it and clattered to the floor.
"Roy Budokai." he read, eager to return to his game. "You have been invited to partake in a game of endurance. Included in this letter is a map and Star Chips. The game will be Duel Monsters primarily, but many others will be incorporated to test your blah blah blah tickets included blah blah blah whatever."
"ALERT!" a voice called from the living room. "The final Control Point is being contested!"
"OH SHIT!" Roy barked, turning and running... and slipping backwards as his father grabbed his shoulder.
"Watch the language, Roy." his father scolded. "And pick up all those star things before your mother gets home and slips and breaks her neck."
"YOU FAILED!!!"
Roy frowned and did as he was told, cleaning up the Star Chips and then looking more closely at the letter... It said that if he wanted to join, he had to leave immediately for the airport.
The airport was a half an hour away.
The tickets said that his plane lifted off at 4pm.
Roy looked at the clock in his kitchen.
3:14pm.
"...Dad, I need a ride."

Got bored towards the end and rushed it. Whatever. Everyone's present and accounted for.
