Waxing Lyrical

Tonight I was half-listening to my playlist while concluding a segment of writing that's been long overdue in making its way out of my head, and Slow Burn by Atreyu came up. Usually I half-listen to that as much as any other track, but I stopped and had to listen to the second verse three or four times - I swear, it seemed to be talking about my usual mood right after I'm done with a writing session, no matter how good it ends up being.

And so that leads me to ask you guys - do you have a song, or have you heard to one recently, that has an uncanny ability to describe you, a current situation in your life, or all-too-familiar circumstances in general? What lyrics speak to or about you?

Before I made it to Haapavesi in 1997, I listened to classical music, almost exclusively. So it wasn't until I was 12 when I actually was able to catch some lyrics. I began to listen to a Finnish band called Nightwish, and liked it, but when I read the lyrics, to tell you the truth, I was disappointed.

Then a friend introduced me to Blind Guardian and I began to find lyrics more suitable to what was happening in my emotional world. It peaked in 2003, one of the strangest years in my life. To give an example on these lyrics, I chose And Then There Was Silence:

Like a leaf in an icy world

Misty tales and poems lost
All the bliss and beauty will be gone
