    Default Sharpedo and Wailord

Decided to get some sets for these two, and see which one is better in general.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to use Sharpedo for something, maybe Wailord just for the heck of it. Anyways, here's the Sharpedo set I've thought up, please tell me what you think.

    Sharpedo@Lum Berry, Hasty, Rough Skin
    252 Speed, 128 Attack, 128 Special Attack
    Earthquake
    Surf
    Ice Beam
    Double Edge

I'm no expert, I'd just like some opinions here. Could anyone reccomend a good Wailord set?

There's a bit of a poll aspect here too -- which one do you think is better, or which would you rather use?

Not a bad set, but I would commit to either a physical sweeper or a special sweeper, instead of dividing your EVs up among attack and special attack. Sharpedo isn't too durable, but it is strong offensively, so it needs to hit hard and quickly with its attacks, so it would be best to focus on either physical or special, not both. You could go with a physical sweeper, just get rid of Ice Beam, have someone else on your team use Ice Beam. Because Sharpedo is a Water type, you can get away with having a water move on it even if you use a physical sweeping Sharpedo, since it will get STAB, and be able to do decent damage if it hits a weakness. Either Surf or Hydro Pump will work, depending on whether you go for accuracy or power. If you go with a physical sweeper, a Hidden Power like Rock or Flying would be great over Ice Beam. You could also attach a Choice Band.

Now, if you want a special sweeper, you could keep Surf (or use Hydro Pump, depending on your preferences) and Ice Beam, and get Crunch into the moveset as well. You could then finish the moveset with a Special-type Hidden Power, like HP Grass/Electric/Fire.

Both sets work good for Sharpedo, whichever one works best for you would depend a lot on the rest of your team. Just make sure that you put 252 EVs in Speed, 6 EVs in HP, and the other 252 into either Attack or Special Attack, depending on what kind of Sharpedo you are going for. The best personality would be a + Speed, - Attack or Special Attack. (Jolly for Physical sweeper, Timid for Special Sweeper)

Now, for Wailord, you could just go with a physical sweeper, unfortunately this moveset doesn't have a STAB move, but it probably works best for Wailord. Wailord has a bit more lastibility than Sharpedo, but it doesn't have as good of a movepool or versatility when compared to Sharpedo, and it also lacks Sharpedo's raw power. Wailord can serve as more of a tank though.

    Curse
    Earthquake
    Return
    Rest
    @Leftovers.

Go with a + Attack, - Special Attack (Adamant) personality for this moveset.

You could use a Special sweeper Wailord, which would have Surf and Ice Beam, along with Rest and Sleep Talk, but I think that the physical sweeper set works better!!

It is hard to say which Pokémon is better without seeing the rest of your team. I prefer Sharpedo, just because of its power and versatility, not to mention its good movepool. However, if your team needs something that is more of a tank, then Wailord could fit in with your team.

Thanks Number One I can't believe I forgot about Crunch. I re-thought my options, and.. I forgot all about it. So you're right, it would be best to dedicate it to either completely physical or completely special. Hmm. I really don't know what to do here, since it doesn't really go along with a team. Oh well, I'll think it over..

    Thanks for your help

I'd still include one good physical attack in the special set to deal with special defenders. Milotic, for example, will laugh at Surf/Ice Beam/Crunch/HP Special while having Double Edge or EQ would allow it to be taken out, or at least significantly damaged. DE or Return would be my choice as you can deal with anything resistant to Normal already very well. EQ is a viable option though if you have a TM to spare.

Others to consider in this regard are Kecleon, Kyogre, Ludicolo and Regice, and many other water tyes (though HP Electric or Grass may help there).

Gotcha. I've got the Earthquake TM, so I'm planning to make it effective here. Thanks Rinku!

I might as well ask, anyone have a good Raikou set? I'm thinking Thunderbolt and Crunch, but uh, I'm drawing blank for the rest. Also, I've been thinking about using Ursaring. I'm thinking about Earthquake, Double Edge, Rest, and Sleep Talk here. I guess I've just got this urge to use Double Edge or something Thanks.

Feel free to tell me when my "I think I'm going to use ___, movesets?" begins to get bothersome

edit - I can't believe I forgot about Armaldo. If anyone's got set ideas, I'm all ears.

    Raikou@Salac Berry
    Modest/Timid
    4 HP, 252 Speed, 252 Special Attack
    Thunderbolt
    Crunch
    HP Special
    Calm Mind

I think Fire would work best for Hidden Power.

    Ursaring@Leichi Berry
    Adamant
    252 Attack, 128 Defense, 128 Special Defense
    Return
    Earthquake
    Brick Break/Bulk Up
    Rock Slide/HP Rock/HP Ghost

    Armaldo@Leftovers
    Adamant
    252 Attack, 128 Defense, 128 Special Defense
    HP Bug
    Rock Slide
    Swords Dance
    Earthquake/Return

For now you'll have to chose between Rock Slide and Swords Dance. I would drop Swords Dance, give it Leichi Berry, then Earthquake and Return for the last spots.

Choice Band is pointless on a special sweeper.

Last night I bred for a Sharpedo, and I'd say it's pretty good. It has good speed, good attack, and even good special attack, though I doubt I'll need it.

It's got Hidden Power Bug -- is it just me, or is this really good? It can take out Grass types without using Ice Beam, take out Psychic types without using Crunch, and can also take out other Dark types. It can do this without using special moves, and abuse it's highest stat. I think I'll go with this -- good idea, or am I missing something?

So for my Sharpedo, I'll have Earthquake, Double Edge, HP~Bug, aaaand... not sure what else, but I'm not willing to re-breed. Ideas?

Surf. You have physical nicely covered, but a STAB special goes a long way as a backup for the likes of

    Skarmory
    Aerodactyl
Solrock/Lunatone (Bug is neutral vs Rock/Psychic)
Any Rock/Ground pokémon (will be more effective than EQ)
    Armaldo
    Physical tanks
    Reflect on a decent Defence
Any pokémon not vulnerable to one of the physical attacks or resistant to water whose defense value is more than about 1.5 their special defense (depending on your actual personality and values. I assumed Adamant for a worst case scenario, with 252 effort in attack and no effort in special attack)
An example would be Weezing or Pinsir.

I'm assuming you're talking Focus Band here, or I'd suggest a non-attack move (perhaps Double Team or Roar?) to keep things flexible.

Rinku: Actually, Rock does not resist Bug. So Bug is still super-effective against the likes of Lunatone and Solrock.

Crufidal: I'd double check its DVs to make sure that your HP Bug has a decent base power. Hidden Power is no good unless it has a power ranging from 64-70 or so.

    My preferred set:

Sharpedo [Hasty] Hydro Pump\Surf, Ice Beam, Crunch, Earthquake @Focus Band\Petaya Berry\Salac Berry\Lum Berry
Speed and Special Attack maxed, 6 effort points in Attack

Even with only six effort points in Attack, Sharpedo still commands a respectable Attack (277 with a DV of 31). So Sharpedo still has a decent Earthquake to work with for taking out slower Electrics and stragglers. Remember, Sharpedo is an assassin, so don't even try to use it against anything faster than it is or use it against anything that could possibly survive a hit from it
